From YouTube: CREST Awards 2017
Description
Five individuals and five organizations are honored for their outstanding community volunteer work. The CREST 2017 recipients are Kay Lohmiller, Stan Barkey, Quota International of Cupertino, Cupertino Host Lions Club, Claudio Bono, The Kiwanis Club of De Anza, St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish, Liang Chao, Hidden Treasures Volunteer Committee, and Monica Tong. This ceremony was recorded May 31, 2017.
B
Well,
L,
so
there
you
go.
Thank
you
welcome
to
the
2017
annual
kress
Awards,
the
city
of
Cupertino
has
been
honoring
our
exceptional
volunteers
for
the
last
20
years,
and
over
that
time,
we've
awarded
over
170
awards
to
both
individuals
and
groups
for
their
contributions
to
our
community
and
I.
Don't
know
how
many
of
you
have
we're
at
this
event
in
the
past,
but
we've
actually
changed
the
format.
B
A
little
bit
used
to
be
almost
like
a
council
meeting
with
the
chairs
sit
up,
and
then
we've
decided
that
you
know
we
need
to
upgrade
our
presentation
a
little
bit,
so
we've
done
a
table
style
and
we
have
a
little
bit
of
hors
d'oeuvres.
So
hopefully
the
grandeur
of
the
event
will
kind
of
reflect
our
feelings
and
our
appreciation
for
our
for
our
volunteers.
B
This
year
we
have
eight
awardees
I
believe
and
we
actually
have
more
groups
than
typical.
Typically
it's
a
we
give
our
awards
most
of
the
individuals,
but
this
year
we
have
almost
half
of
them
are
actually
groups
so
probably
a
long
time
coming,
because
these
are
pretty
prominent
groups
in
our
community.
So
anyway,
I
know
you
don't
want
to
hear
me,
give
a
speech.
So,
let's
get
to
the
awardees
and
I'd
like
to
introduce
you
to
our
mayor
as
to
be
by
noting,
and
she
will
give
the
first
four.
C
Thank
you,
David
used
to
be
this
height,
where
you
want
to
hear
you
welcome
everyone
to
our
Chris
ceremony.
Cupertino
recognizes
extra
steps
taken
as
simple
as
that,
and
it
forms
the
word
crest.
So
it
is
my
honor
to
stand
in
front
of
you
to
honor
all
these
volunteers.
Who've
done
such
wonderful
work
throughout
the
years
and
they're
finally
getting
to
honor
them.
The
one
thing
I
always
hear
when
I
hear
the
word
volunteer,
people
say:
oh,
they
have
a
lot
of
time
on
their
hands.
No,
they
have
a
lot
of
heart.
C
They
have
a
lot
of
heart
and
they
take
that
time
to
help
our
community
and
do
the
things
that
the
city
itself
cannot
do.
They
fill
the
gap,
they
fill
the
void.
You
take
the
extra
steps
that
the
city
cannot
do
and
you
help
the
people
who
are
in
need.
You
help
those
who
cannot
help
themselves
and
you
really
do
take
those
extra
steps
which
deserves
all
the
honor
and
appreciation
and
I.
Thank
you
all
so
much
for
all
the
hard
work
that
you
do
and
all
the
love
that
you
show
this
community.
E
D
Over
the
years,
k
has
served
as
PTA
president
and
school
sight,
council
member
at
regn,
our
elementary
kennedy
middle
school
and
Monta
Vista
High
School.
Not
many
people
know
that,
along
with
this
case,
served
as
the
coach
for
seventh
and
eighth
grade
girls
soccer
teams.
She
also
worked
tirelessly
on
the
AYSO
Soccer
Commission
and
it
doesn't
stop.
There.
K
served
as
president
amana
this.
D
The
music
boosters
club,
co-chaired
and
chaperone
Fiesta
and
Holiday
Bowl
trips
for
the
marching
band
from
the
80s
and
for
27
years
has
been
involved
with
inner
wheels,
an
organization
aligned
with
Rotary
International,
where
she
has
the
chair
and
co-chair
for
six
years
when
there
is
a
need
for
a
volunteer
K.
Is
there.
C
Y
case
coming
up
see
kay.
Please
come
up
here
and
while
you're
coming
up,
I'll
read
a
few
more
fun
facts:
chalo
Mila
has
been
a
Cupertino
resident
for
50
years
and
in
that
time
she
has
had
a
positive
impact
on
hundreds
of
families,
children's
and
organizations
and
her
friends
and
families.
Think
of
her
as
an
energizer
bunny
and
the
fun
fact
here
again
is
Kay
met
her
husband,
dick
lemon
on
a
Greyhound
bus
that
was
headed
for
Vegas.
No,
no.
F
C
C
G
I'd
like
to
thank
all
of
my
friends
that
came
today,
I
have
my
airwheel
friend
sitting
over
there,
my
family
sitting
here
and
just
friends
all
over.
It
was
just
a
Joyce
but
have
volunteer
I
used
to
volunteer
a
lot.
I
don't
do
as
much
now,
but
it
was
really
a
big
part
of
my
life
and
I
had
a
really
good
time.
I
had,
let
me
say,
is
really
a
special
special
thanks
to
West
Valley
Community
Service,
who,
who
put
my
name
in
for
the
crest
award
and
to
Nancy
Harper.
G
F
C
C
D
Quota
international
of
Cupertino
has
been
working
to
help
the
deaf
hard
of
hearing
speech
impaired
and
disadvantaged
women
and
children
for
more
than
30
years.
In
2016
alone,
the
group
of
approximately
15
members
provided
a
number
of
services
for
the
community
held
a
community
tea
for
the
grateful
garments,
projects
which
donates
clothing
to
sexual
trauma
victims
made
and
distributed
Valentines
to
residents
of
the
Cupertino
wellness
center
honored,
a
number
of
volunteers
at
its
hats
off
event
at
the
Quinlan
community
center
and
awarded
numerous
grants
to
local
nonprofits
and
organizations.
D
Membership
may
be
a
challenge
for
the
local
quota
club,
but
serving
the
community
has
not
been
an
issue.
The
group
has
become
adept
in
calling
and
friends
and
inviting
participation
from
other
service
clubs
to
ensure
the
needs
of
the
community
are
met.
So
if
you're
out
around
town
and
see
someone
with
a
blue
quota
shirt
be
sure
to
stop
and
thank
them
for
their
service.
C
H
D
This
is
the
Kiwanis
Club
of
the
answers
website
and
the
first
thing
that
will
catch
your
eye
is
a
statement
in
big,
bold
letters
that
says
serving
the
children
of
the
world
and
the
local
Kiwanis
Club
lives.
Up
to
this
bold
statement.
Each
year,
the
Kiwanis
Club
most
special
games
for
special
needs
children
in
the
area.
D
This
is
the
one
day
of
the
year
when
these
children
are
athletes
and
the
center
of
attention
through
positive
achievement,
and
for
more
than
a
decade,
the
Kiwanis
Club
has
partners
with
West
Valley
Community
Services
to
host
a
back-to-school
shopping
street
and
a
holiday
gift
program
for
families
who
are
struggling
with
affording
basic
needs,
such
as
rent
gas
include
school
and
the
holidays,
even
put
extra
stress
and
pressure
on
them.
These
programs
help
families
to
enjoy
the
holidays,
provide
his
clothes,
backpacks
and
school
supplies
with
the
help
of
community
support.
C
Do
you
have
more
members
of
the
club
here?
If
you
could
all
don't
be
shy?
Please
come
up
and
thank
you
for
all
the
work
that
you
do
for
our
special-needs
children
and
for
working
with
the
key
clubs
from
all
our
schools
who
helped
at
many
more
events,
and
that
takes
your
message
further.
So
thank
you
for
what
you
do
well.
I
Thank
you
very
much,
we'd
like
to
thank
the
city
of
Cupertino
and
all
just
pulling
up
here.
We
already
started
seeing
familiar
faces,
and
it
feels
funny
as
an
individual
coming
up
or
coming
up
with
my
Kiwanis
team
is
because
we're
all
communities
that
work
together
so
I.
Thank
you
very
much
and
we
hope
to
continue
working
and
meeting
you
in
the
near
future.
Thank
you.
E
D
Last
year
alone,
emergency
financial
assistance,
along
with
financial
education
and
multiple
housing
programs,
for
those
in
need
in
2016,
stan
agreed
to
serve
an
additional
year
at
WV
CSS
board
chair
to
help
on
board
and
steward
its
new
executive
director.
The
process
included
weekly
meetings
with
the
director
in
order
to
ensure
a
smooth
and
successful
transition.
D
The
Stand
is
not
just
focused
on
what's
happening
at
the
top.
Stan
continues
to
volunteer
as
a
Gleaner
with
the
food
pantry
driving
a
van
each
Friday
to
pick
up
groceries
and
household
items
from
Target
sprouts
and
Marina
market.
While
the
rest
of
us
have
sat
here
learning
about
Stan,
he
has
currently
slipped
out
of
the
room
and
gone
back
to
Serena.
C
E
Others
have
said:
I
am
thrilled
to
live
in
a
community
that
recognizes
the
power
of
volunteerism,
and
it
appreciates
it
as
much
as
this
occasion
demonstrates
our
organization,
West
Valley,
Community
Services
has
been
mentioned
in
several
presentations
already,
probably
will
be
a
few
more.
We
are
part
of
the
fabric
of
this
community
and
I'm
grateful
to
have
the
opportunity
to
volunteer
with
this
community
and
with
West
Valley.
C
J
Thanks
mayor
buddy
in
Athens,
I
would
like
to
just
briefly
outfitter
thanks.
I
would
just
like
to
briefly
expand
upon
what
our
mayor
was
saying
and
state
that
you
know
with
all
the
thanks
from
the
City
Council
and
from
the
city
of
Cupertino
to
everyone
who
volunteers.
The
concept
of
volunteerism
is
just
not
only
integral
to
the
community,
but
also
integral
to
our
system
of
governance,
where
we're
trying
to
seek
as
much
input
as
possible
from
people
in
the
community
and
throughout
society,
and
there
there's
just
so
much
to
do
in
a
system
like
that.
J
We're
very
aspirational.
But
at
the
same
time,
you
can
imagine
when
everyone
has
all
sorts
of
feedback
and
input
and
opinion
that
it
could
make
for
a
very
vigorous
set
of
discussions
throughout
our
community.
So
I
want
to
take
the
opportunity
to
thank
everyone
here
for
your
dedication
to
volunteerism
and
without
further
ado.
The
first
recipient
that
I
have
the
pleasure
of
presenting
is
the
st.
Joseph
of
Cupertino
parish.
D
St.
Joseph
of
Cupertino
parish
has
a
long
history
in
the
city
dating
back
more
than
100
years,
but
just
being
in
the
community
is
not
enough.
They
want
to
be
part
of
the
community
for
more
than
40
years.
Parishioners
have
donated
assembled
and
distributed
boxes
of
food
for
the
Thanksgiving
tables
of
needy
families.
In
the
past
few
years,
more
than
two
hundred
recipients
are
fed
through
the
program
annually
following
Thanksgiving
parishioners.
D
Try
to
brighten
the
Christmas
holiday
of
many
people
dealing
with
financial
hardship
by
contributing
gifts,
including
household
appliances,
clothes
and
toys
which
they
place
under
a
giving
tree
in
the
church,
along
with
feeding
those
need
and
making
sure
they
have
something
under
their
Christmas
trees.
The
church,
in
conjunction
with
other
local
houses
of
worship,
is
celebrating
its
25th
year
as
a
participant
in
the
rotating
shelter
program
that
houses
homeless,
men,
but
that's
not
all
the
parish
also
stepped
up
and
allowed
West
Valley
Community
Services,
which
provides
mobile
food
and
case
management
services.
J
J
Thanks
very
much
for
all
you
do
and
to
give
a
few
tidbits
about
the
the
parish.
They
have
actually
been
in
the
community
for
more
than
a
hundred
years
and
they
were
founded
in
1913,
so
they
out
date
us
in
the
city
by
approximately
forty
years,
because
we
weren't
actually
founded
until
about
1953
or
1954.
St.
josephs
of
Cupertino
is
also
tied,
very
integral
e
to
the
namesake
of
our
city.
J
I'm,
not
sure
how
many
people
widely
know
this,
but
the
first
cartographer
that
mapped
out
our
area
had
as
his
patron
saint,
your
your
namesake,
and
so
that's
how
we
ultimately
derive
the
name
of
our
city.
So
thank
you
so
much
for
everything
that
you've
done
over
the
years.
You
know
just
one
of
the
many
volunteering
efforts
that
you've
initiated
dates
back
to
the
1970s
when
you
a
partner
to
provide
a
food
pantry
for
those
in
need
for
non
perishables
and
that
continues
until
today.
K
Thank
you
for
that
great
history
lesson,
but
I
don't
have
to
give
the
parish
was
founded
in
1913,
but
the
Catholic
community
has
actually
had
a
church
there
at
our
present
location
since
1907,
and
it
has
been
a
great
blessing
for
us
to
have
served
the
local
community
and
to
have
been
a
part
of
cupertino
history
for
all
of
this
time.
Thank
you
very
much
for
this
honor.
D
L
D
Those
in
financial
need
to
youth
organizations
and
to
help
screening
and
awareness
the
local
club
fulfilled
a
statement
in
numerous
ways.
It
provided
financial
support
to
Cupertino
high
school's
wrestling
tournament,
while
also
preparing
and
distributing
food
to
all
participants
participated
in
Flag
Day
by
presenting
flags
and
history
left
us
to
select
groups
of
3rd
graders
in
the
Cupertino
Union
School
District,
and
sponsored
the
AJ
Robinson
health
screening
van
at
the
Cupertino
Fall
Festival,
which
was
full
of
health
professionals
and
materials.
This
small
group
made
big
things
happen
in
2016.
J
So
if
you'll
recall
the
immediately
past
history
lesson
that
actually
predates
the
existence
of
our
city
as
a
as
an
actual
city
by
a
few
years
and
very
fittingly
in
accordance
to
what
city
manager
brandt
just
told
us,
you
are
one
of
the
first
recipients
of
the
crest
award
very
deservedly.
So
there
are
actually
two
Lions
Clubs
in
Cupertino
there's
the
Cupertino
host
Lions
Club,
which
was
originally
upon
the
founding.
J
Just
simply
the
Cupertino
Lions
Club,
and
you
did
make
room
in
1969
for
the
coop
Cupertino
DeAnza,
Lions
Club,
another
fine
organization
in
town,
at
which
point
you
change
your
name
to
the
Cupertino
host,
Lions,
Club
and
so
I
just
wanted
to
thank
you
for
all
of
the
work
that
you've
done
for
the
community
over
the
years.
It's
it's
much
appreciated
and
we
hope
that
you
continue
for
another
60
plus
years,
and
you
know
we
wish
you
the
best
in
your
mission.
So
thank
you
so
much
for
everything
that
you've
done.
M
You
saw
a
little
bit
of
the
fishing
derby,
a
fishing
event
that
we
had
for
the
kids
with
special
needs.
I'll,
never
forget
the
one
that
caught
the
fish
first
fish
he
ever
caught
in
his
life
special
needs
kid
and
he
never
wanted
to.
Let
it
go
so
he
wouldn't
let
us
clean
it.
Wouldn't
let
us
put
it
in
the
ice.
M
E
A
D
Whether
she's
working
at
Assemblymember,
Evan,
Lowe's
office
or
volunteering,
her
time
at
West,
Valley,
Community,
Services
Monica
Tong,
has
a
way
of
bringing
people
together
for
the
benefit
of
the
community.
Monica
is
the
Cupertino
native
who
graduated
from
Monica's
to
high
school,
although
she
spends
much
of
her
time
at
the
State
Capitol
these
days
when
she
is
in
town,
she
uses
it
to
give
back
to
those
in
need.
Last
year,
Monica
made
sure
that
West
Valley
Community
Services
holiday
gift
program
was
an
event
for
the
entire
family.
D
Monica
planned
out
not
just
a
couple
arts
and
crafts
for
the
families
to
make,
but
six
to
seven
different
holiday
crafts
for
families
to
do
together.
She
also
stepped
up
and
helped
connect
w
VPS
with
the
local
fire
departments.
This
made
a
big
impact
as
the
local
firefighters
donated
food
and
came
to
cook
that
food
for
clients
and
when
she's
not
doing
all
of
this
well
Monica
is
also
a
Gleaner
and
spends
her
time
taking
WV
TS
as
an
and
traveling
to
local
grocery
stores.
To
pick
up
food
donations.
J
So
one
thing
you
might
not
know
about
Monica
is
that
she's
also
a
a
legislative
aide
in
our
local
Assembly
members
office
and
the
session
has
still
been
extended
at
this
point,
and
so
Monica
is
unable
to
accept
the
award
tonight.
However,
her
mother
may
is,
and
so
on
behalf
of
the
city
I'd
very
much
like
to
thank
you
for
producing
a
Cupertino
product
that
is
the
product
of
our
school
system.
J
I
know
Monica
directly
through
through
civic
work
and
I
can
I
can
tell
you
without
any
reservation
or
hesitation
that
that
Monica
is,
is
a
very
warm
caring
and
professional
person,
and
you
should
be
extremely
proud,
I'm
sure
you
are,
of
course,
and
Monica
volunteers
for
West
Valley,
community
services
in
this
past
holiday
season.
She
organized
arts
and
crafts
for
our
families,
and
it
was
something
that
was
very
well
appreciated
by
the
families
that
receive
services
from
wbcs,
primarily
because
it
is
the
holiday
season.
J
N
O
O
We
are
on
a
status
as
a
statutory
deadline
for
assembly
bills
in
Sacramento,
so
it's
a
genuine
privileged
to
work
with
our
community
with
our
community,
especially
was
West
Valley.
For
me,
this
is
just
the
beginning.
I
look
forward
to
continued
service
to
our
community
in
my
career
in
public
service
as
a
public
servant.
Thank
you,
city
of
Cupertino,
Thank,
You,
West,
Valley,
Community,
Services
and
I
am
a
proud
mom.
D
There
are
those
who
seek
the
limelight,
while
others
quietly
do
the
right
thing
without
looking
for
a
pat
on
the
back
Cupertino
resident,
Claudio
Bono
falls
into
the
latter
since
moving
to
the
city.
Three
years
ago,
Claudio
has
taken
as
26
years
of
hospitality
industry
experience
to
the
next
level.
One
of
the
first
things
Claudio
did
when
he
moved
to
Cupertino,
was
to
join
the
Chamber
of
Commerce.
D
He
has
served
on
the
board
of
directors
and
makes
sure
to
be
present
at
as
many
meetings
and
events
as
possible,
not
just
to
be
a
good
representative
of
the
chamber,
but
also
the
city
that
he
calls
home.
Claudio
is
currently
the
general
manager
of
the
Cupertino
hotel
in
this
role.
He
does
his
best
to
offer
complimentary
meeting
spaces
to
organizations
who
need
them
to
move
their
causes
forward.
D
P
So
when
I
was
asked
to
present
to
Claudio,
the
first
thing
I
said
was
who
I
didn't
know
him,
but
fortunately
I
knew
someone
that
knew
him
so
I
called
up
Ruby,
Alba
Jen
and
after
who
is
this
guy
Claudio
and
about
an
hour
later,
I
got
her
off
the
phone
and
I
learned
quite
a
bit
about
him
and
just
sitting
at
the
table.
Today,
I
learned
even
more
about
him.
P
If
you
have
a
cause,
if
you
need
space,
just
call
Claudio
so
open
his
checkbook
he'll,
give
you
as
much
money
as
you
need
for
whatever
it
is.
You
need
it
for
I
guarantee
it
and
Ruby
will
back
me
up
on
that.
He
gets
space
to
the
coin
Club.
He
was
instrumental
in
the
professional
women's
networking
group
which
helps
women
in
business
in
Cupertino,
and
he
also
provides
space
for
the
crew
of
the
Starship
Enterprise
I.
P
Don't
know
if
you
know
about
the
blue
light
blue
light
cinemas
annual
Star
Trek
is
a
convention
art
or
in
event,
but
Claudio
houses
them
all
at
the
Cupertino
Hotel
at
no
charge
provides
them
with
all
the
food
and
they
really
appreciate
that.
I've
also
heard
that
he's
a
gourmet
chef,
supposedly
his
omelets,
are
about
the
best
you'll
ever
have
in
Cupertino,
but
you
have
to
stay
at
the
hotel
in
order
to
get
one
so
I'm
happy
to
provide
to
give
Claudio
this
award
today.
F
A
Never
shy
away
from
a
microphone,
so
you
may
have
to
stop
me
from
talking.
Thank
you
city
of
Cupertino.
Indeed,
I
came
here
about
three
years
ago.
I
was
sitting
less
came
from
Miami,
where
I
stayed
over
12
years
and
how
can
I
not
be
helpful
in
a
community
that
basically
embarrass
me
and
welcomed
me
here?
A
It's
on
my
phone:
that's
a
yes!
So
you
know:
I've
been
in
many
continents
and
I've
been
working
with
5-star,
hotels
and
plazas,
and
and
it's
an
honor
for
me-
to
provide
a
great
Cupertino
hospitality
to
all
the
millions
of
travelers
who
are
looking
forward
to
come
to
Cupertino
and
stay
in
Cupertino
to
either
visit
Apple
campus
if
they
can
I'm
not
doing
any
commercial
for
Apple
here,
but
but
try
the
restaurants
and
the
weather
that
we
have
here
and
to
give
them
an
opportunity
to
stay
in
our
wonderful
city.
A
Just
to
give
you
an
idea.
I
was
actually
here
three
years
ago
and
my
first
meeting
was
through
the
City
Council,
with
the
very
live
voices
of
all
the
residents
of
Bertino.
So
that
was
my
introduction,
but
I
have
to
say
I.
Think
I'm,
one
of
the
few,
but
anyway
I
haven't
met
much
people
because
I'm
almost
never
here,
I
keep
on
traveling
but
I'm.
A
proud,
Cupertino
resident.
I
live
here,
but
I
also
work
here.
A
So
I
feel
it's
a
great
privilege
to
represent
the
city
of
Cupertino
worldwide
and
I'm,
very
proud,
Cupertino
resident
and
hopefully
we're
bringing
additional
hotels
of
great
stature
that
will
allow
celebration.
You
know
we
would
love
to
have
our
barbra
streisand
staying
Cupertino
instead
of
Palo
Alto
so
but
anyways.
Thank
you
city
of
Cupertino.
It's
a
great
honor
I
will
always
continue.
P
D
If
you
ask
Liang
Chow
friends
what
she's
accomplished
in
the
last
couple
of
years,
they
list
the
host
of
accomplishments.
But
if
you
asked
Liang
herself
about
those
same
accomplishments,
she
would
say
she
is
just
one
part
of
a
larger
effort
of
many
Liang
has
lived
in
Cupertino
for
18
years
and
has
a
strong
vision
of
what
Cupertino
and
at
school.
D
This
could
and
should,
before
being
elected
to
the
Cupertino
School
District
Board
of
Education
Liang
volunteered
her
time
in
classrooms
and
for
school
activities,
and
she
still
finds
the
time
to
teach
free
math
circles
a
couple
times
a
week
at
San,
Jose
libraries,
Calabasas
branch
in
2016
Liang
helped
lead
groups
of
residents
to
work
on
behalf
of
Cupertino
and
at
schools.
According
to
those
around
her
Liang
rallied
people
of
all
walks
of
life,
together
with
her
vision.
P
So
I
have
about
an
hour
here
to
talk
about
Liang
I've
known
her
for
less
than
two
years,
and
I
first
met
her
in
a
meeting
in
a
dentist's
office.
When
the
group
she
was
starting
called
better
Cupertino
was
starting
and
she
couldn't
stop
talking
and
finally,
I
asked
the
person
who
would
opt
through
a
meeting.
I
said:
do
you
have
anything
that
we
can
hold
that
only
the
person
holding
it
can
talk?
L
Can
get
me
to
stop?
I
am
very
honored
that
a
lot
of
CEOs,
the
parents,
community
members
and
better
Cupertino
volunteers
nominated
me
for
this
award,
but
I
really
don't
think
I
deserve
the
word.
Nothing
is
possible
with
without
a
lot
of
volunteers
who
helped
with
the
district
and
with
with
better
Cupertino,
who
a
lot
of
volunteers,
walk
the
street,
a
lot
of
volunteers,
attending
meetings
and
talking
to
more
and
more
reach
out
to
more
people.
L
It's
all.
Thus
us
the
parents,
community
members
and
staff
that
helped
bring
cosd
to
to
make
positive
change
in
the
USD
and
many
pentacle
Pertino
volunteers
helped
to
bring
more
transparency
and
more
community
engagement
to
ours,
beloved
city
and
our
district
I
would
like
to
encourage
you
more
and
more
people
to
volunteer
and
to
speak
up
about
things
that
that
surround
us.
Everyone
care
about
our
environment.
It's
every
little
volunteer.
Every
little
extra
step
taken
that
together
we
can
bring
build
a
better
Cupertino
together.
Thank
you.
D
One
of
the
hidden
treasures
of
Cupertino
is
the
50-plus
volunteers,
who
show
up
each
year
and
put
in
1,000
hours
combined
to
ensure
that
the
Senior
Center
hidden
treasure
sale
is
a
success.
Hidden
treasures
proceeds
go
to
support
the
Senior
Center
stay
active
fund
which
provides
assistance
to
offset
the
cost
of
Senior
Center
membership
in
classes,
as
well
as
the
case
management
emergency
fund.
D
This
fund
is
used
throughout
the
year
to
assist
at-risk
case
management
clients
with
everything
from
paying
for
home
care
to
grocery
bills,
medications
and
transportation,
energy
bills
and
more
and
it's
the
dirty
work
all
these
volunteers
put
in.
That
makes
sure
this
happens.
Thousands
of
items
are
donated
sorted,
clean
priced
and
sold
over
the
course
of
three
months
in
the
effort
of
seniors,
helping
seniors,
hard-working
care,
the
hidden
treasures
committee
volunteers,
put
into
this
event,
combined
with
their
commitment
and
making
a
difference
in
their
community,
are
what
makes
this
event
better.
D
P
Wow
I
had
not
heard
of
this
group
until
I
was
told
that
was
presenting
the
award,
so
I
went
and
did
some
research
on
them,
and
my
wife
saw
this.
She
goes
wow.
We
can
clean
out
our
garage
and
donate
all
this
stuff
to
hidden
treasures
and
I
said,
but
all
my
stuff
is
really
good
stuff.
I
can
never
give
any
of
it
away
and
I
think
since
I'm,
the
oldest
council
member
here
today,
although
Barry's
older
he's
not
here,
it's
appropriate
that
I
present
the
award
to
the
hidden
treasures
from
the
Senior
Center.
N
I'm
Helen
hall,
like
all
of
us,
we
are
volunteers
of
Hin,
Senior,
Center.
Hidden
treasure
is
part
of
the
volunteer
work
we
did
and
we
really
enjoyed
it.
We
work
hard
at
it
and
we
enjoy
the
salad
day.
We
enjoy
the
cleaning,
not
that
much
so
we
enjoy
the
customer
coming
and
that
and
then
couple
days
later,
we
know
how
much
money
we
made
and
all
those
money
taught
you
good
purpose,
good
use
as
a
record,
a
senior
help
seniors
and
non-members
growing.
N
Every
year
in
our
income
profit
growth
every
year
in
May
I
do
some
commercial
here
yeah,
so
we
have
the
hidden
treasures
all
day
every
year,
the
last
Thursday
of
October
I
hope
you
all
come
I
hope
to
see
some
of
the
faces
there,
and
we
also
help.
We
think
we're
very
thankful
to
the
Senior
Center
staff.
N
F
C
So,
thank
you
again
for
all
the
extra
steps
taken
by
you
all
to
help
the
needy
to
feed
the
hungry,
to
give
shelter
to
those
who
need
it
to
help
our
special
needs.
Children
to
help
the
visually
and
hearing
impaired
you
do
so
much.
You
do
so
much
I!
Really!
Truly!
Thank
you
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart.
So
thank
you
again.
I
hope
you
all
had
a
wonderful
time
and
I
hope
you
find
those
again
those
volunteers
who've
taken
that
extra
step
next
year.
