B
Welcome
to
this
candidate
forum
for
a
Fremont
Union
High
School,
District,
I'm,
Tracy
Edwards
from
the
League
of
Women
Voters,
and
will
be
moderating
tonight's
forum,
the
League
of
Women
Voters,
hosts
forums
like
this,
to
allow
voters
to
see
candidates
and
to
hear
them
address
questions
of
interest
to
the
public.
Our
goal
is
to
enable
voters
to
learn
about
candidates,
so
they
can
make
informed
choices.
The
League
of
Women
Voters
never
endorses
or
opposes
a
candidate
or
a
political
party.
B
Three
of
the
five
seats
on
the
board
of
trustees
for
Fremont
Union
High
School
District,
are
up
for
election.
This
November.
All
six
candidates
are
here
tonight.
They
are
an
eye
for
destur
Mina,
Judah,
Conda,
godula,
Rosa,
Kim,
Naomi,
Nakano,
Matsumoto,
dun,
Sun
and
William
Wilson,
who
goes
by
Bill.
B
Voters
in
the
school
district
may
vote
for
three
of
these
candidates.
Three
candidates
to
get
the
most
votes,
this
November
will
be
elected
to
the
school
board.
The
candidates
have
agreed
to
a
format
and
ground
rules
for
tonight's
forum,
and
the
format
is
simple:
I
will
pose
a
question
to
the
candidates
and
each
candidate
will
have
60
seconds
to
respond.
A
timer
seated
in
the
front
row
will
give
the
candidates
visual
signals
to
help
them
pace
their
responses.
B
The
questions
for
tonight's
forum
were
developed
by
a
team
of
League
members
based
on
their
own
research
and
questions
submitted
by
the
public
via
email.
Since
we
received
ample
questions
from
the
public
in
advance,
we
are
not
collecting
more
questions
from
the
audience
tonight.
The
forum
is
being
recorded
and
aired
live
on
the
city
and
the
Cupertino
City
Channel.
The
ground
rules
ask
that
the
candidates
do
not
use
forum
recordings
for
the
for
campaign
purposes.
B
B
Please
hold
your
applause
until
the
end
of
the
forum
will
now
turn
our
attention
to
the
candidates.
Thank
you
all
very
much
for
running
for
listen
for
participating
tonight.
Each
candidate
will
provide
an
opening
statement.
The
speaking
order
for
the
opening
statements
was
determined
by
random
drawing
and
will
be
from
left
to
right,
starting
with
Rosa
Rosa.
Your
opening
statement,
please
hi
my.
C
Together
with
my
team,
I
ran
a
financial,
it's
open
school
with
a
well-planned
curriculum
and
I'd
like
to
use
my
experience
to
contribute
to
the
district
at
both
member
I'd
like
to
reinforce
students,
mental
wellness
program,
I
major
in
educational
psychology
and
I
know
how
important
their
mental
well-being
is
to
their
future
success
as
a
board.
Member
I
would
like
to
incorporate
all
the
students
voice
into
the
district
policy
by
proactively
reaching
out
listening
and
making
best
action.
Thank.
D
You
Thank
You
Tracy
and
thank
you
to
the
League
of
Women
Voters
and
for
putting
on
this
event,
and
thank
you
all
for
coming.
So
I
was
first
elected
to
the
Fremont
Union
High
School
District
Board
in
2006,
and
I'm
currently
board
president.
So
I
think.
The
real
question
is:
why
am
I
running
again
well,
I?
Think
in
it
shortly
is
because
I
really
love
this
district
and
because
I
think
we
build
a
really
solid
foundation
and
the
of
the
three
of
us,
whose
terms
are
up
this
time
toward
not
running
this
time.
D
I
really
appreciate
the
work
on
way
and
Barbara.
Nunes
have
done
to
build
a
strong
foundation,
but
I
believe
we
need
some
continuity
to
build
on
this
foundation
to
take
us
forward
where
you're
going
to
have
even
more
challenges
in
the
future
and
I
think
it
helps
to
have
someone
around
who's
seen
what
worked,
and
maybe
what
not
so
much
so.
Thank
you
very
much.
Thank.

H
Evening
Thank
You
Tracy
and
the
League
of
Women
Voters,
and
for
all
of
you
for
coming
tonight,
it's
amazing
the
number
of
people
that
come
and
that's
one
of
the
nice
things
about
this
community
is
how
engaged
the
community
is.
I'm,
Naomi,
Nakano,
Matsumoto
and
I'm
really
very
grateful
for
this
opportunity
to
be
a
candidate
of
the
Fremont
Union
High
School
District
Board.
H
My
three
kids
were
lucky
to
have
graduated
from
Homestead
High
School
and
Fremont
Union
High
School
District
is
one
of
the
top
districts
in
the
nation
and
I
want
to
work
to
keep
it
the
best.
My
motto
is
best:
be
est
being
the
beacon
of
excellence
for
students
and
teachers,
and
in
doing
that,
I
mean
in
in
that
doing,
what's
best
being
the
best
and
staying
the
best
and
that's
what
I'm
committed
to
do.
What
I
bring
to
the
students
in
our
district
is
I've,
been
a
non-profit
executive
in
management
for
25
years.
B
D
Well,
I'd
I
have
the
the
board
experience,
which
I
think
will
be
helpful
because
it
has
show
me
some
things.
So
why
don't
I
go
into
a
couple
of
other
things
so,
along
the
way,
I
was
a
CEO
of
a
company
and
running
a
company
gave
me
some
insights,
which
I
think
are
useful
with
the
district.
It's
not
that
the
district
is
a
company.
D
I
think
I
learned
that,
along
the
way
and
more
recently,
I've
had
the
chance
to
go
back
to
one
of
my
first
loves,
which
was
teaching
mathematics,
so
I'm
teaching
a
class
at
the
ends
of
college,
and
that
gives
me
a
chance
to
see
what
our
students
need
to
exceed
after
they
leave
our
schools,
and
it
also
gives
me
a
chance
to
see
what
a
great
community
college
system
we
have.
Thank.
E
I
mentioned
in
my
opening
statement.
I
have
been
an
active
member
in
the
school
and
community,
based
on
my
experience
and
working
with
parents,
school
students,
teachers
and
administrators
I
have
insight
and
into
the
schools
as
a
coach
and
a
Scout
leader,
I
interact
with
kids
to
mentor
them,
train
them
and
build
character.
Having
a
background
in
accounting,
I
know
the
realities
of
working
with
the
budget
and
I
understand
the
financials.
All
this
has
prepared
me
to
move
forward
to
have
effectively
serve
the
community
in
the
same
way.
E
F
The
experience
the
depth
and
the
breadth
of
my
experience
and
involvement
with
the
school
community,
along
with
my
professional
experience
and
Finance,
allows
me
to
help
the
school
district
to
continue
on
the
path
of
maintaining
its
excellence
and
serving
our
students.
Well,
that
is
one
of
the
reasons
I'm
running
and
that
is
I,
think
a
great
experience,
ability
and
something
that
I
have
used
to
working
collaboratively
with
all
the
community
which
I
can
bring
to
the
school
district.
Thank.
G
Besides
the
volunteer
work,
I
have
been
on
the
Planning
Commission
for
eight
years
twice
as
a
cheer,
so
it's
I
know
how
fun
how
come
and
the
function
and
how
to
build
consensus
with
your
colleague
there's
a
lot
of
challenges
during
the
Cupertino
planning
commission
meeting
but
I
know
it's
a
one
way,
respect
to
each
other
build
consensus.
It's
very
important.
G
The
factors
I
want
to
bring
this
experience
immediately,
bring
to
the
Fremont
Union,
High,
School,
Board,
and
also
it's
a
president
of
a
Historical
Society
I,
truly
believe
bring
the
older
generation
together
is
needed,
students
from
high
school
all
to
the
seniors
community.
That's
why
I
take
the
the
presidency
of
their
and
I
think
it's
beside
this
one
I'm
I'm,
also
into
the
working
at
a
Cupertino,
Rotary
Club.
There
is
a
many
many
friends
in
this
room.
We
build
the
community
together.
That's
why
I
want
to
get
this
serving
up
ourselves
to
the
community.
Thank.
H
Naomi
I'm,
a
social
worker
and
I'm,
a
social
justice
advocate
and
an
educational
advocate,
I
have
25
years
of
experience,
running
nonprofits
and
have
worked
on
contracts,
budgets
and
program
management.
I
have
also
been
a
school
social
worker
having
been
placed
in
the
schools.
I've
also
placed
counselors
in
schools
as
a
nonprofit
leader
and
from
a
very
practical
I
mean
from
a
parent
perspective.
I
have
volunteered
in
the
schools,
since
my
kids
were
in
preschool
and
have,
in
my
last
four
years,
have
served
on
the
PTSA
Executive
Committee
and
worked
on
higher
level
executive
positions.
H
C
I
have
taught
students
in
the
classroom
and
I
went
school
as
principal,
oh
and
I,
so
I'm
in
thousand
of
students
growing
from
our
feeder
schools
to
the
high
school
to
college,
and
it
was
really
valuable
experience
for
me
to
open
up
them
and
yeah
and
help
them
and
I
used.
Actually,
this
trick
of
facility
and
I
fully
understand
the
current
issue
of
the
facility,
one
time
I,
still
rain,
dropping
from
the
ceiling
and,
lastly,
I
have
experience
of
publishing
a
series
of
text.
C
B
B
E
The
most
important
goal
from
my
experience,
apart
from
setting
the
visions
and
goals,
adopting
policies
and
overseeing
annual
budget,
the
both
should
be
responsible
to
the
values
and
beliefs
and
priorities
of
the
community,
maintain
transparency
and
accountability,
provide
support,
have
two-way
communication
and
community
with
the
community.
The
core
value
of
mine
is
to
support
and
inspire
all
students
to
reach
their
goals.
All
wiser
should
be
heard.
We
should
strive
together
as
a
team
to
achieve
our
common
goals.
E
F
F
So
I
am
a
grassroot
parents,
I
have
put
in
thirteen
years
in
the
school
district.
From
the
time
my
kids
were
in
kindergarten.
I
have
not
only
worked
as
a
volunteer
which
I
enjoyed
a
lot
worked
in
the
classrooms.
Listen
to
the
teachers,
listen
to
the
parents,
listen
to
the
students
as
I
volunteered
on
the
pts.
A
board
became
the
PTA
president,
whether
it's
at
the
council
or
the
school
level.
I
have
also
been
a
president
at
the
council
level.
F
The
other
thing
is
I
am
a
part
of
several
committees
which
has
parents,
students,
teachers,
administrators,
like
the
citizen
advisory
committee,
like
the
student
wellness
task
force,
where
we
are
like
30
people,
40
people
listening
to
each
other's
voice,
bringing
in
the
community
and
that's
how
you
solve
problems,
that's
how
you
involve
community
and
that's
the
way
I
would
go
about
as
about
trustee
keep
the
community
involved.
Thank.
G
I'm
very
opportunity,
optimism
and
I
think
it's
there.
Several
things
happen
in
the
past
ten
years
in
our
community,
both
in
the
school
and
in
the
cities
at
the
planning,
Commissioner
I
would
see
so
many
polarized
and
extreme.
Is
that
the
argument,
but
I
always
think
it's
like
a
community
advisory
community
advisory
committee.
It
should
be
should
be
say
it
should
be
one
our
forum
and
put
a
committee
together
and
bring
all
the
stakeholders
together
openly
discuss.
There
is
always
a
solution
for
any
challenge
issue.
G
As
long
I
thought
we
couldn't
reach
the
maximum
benefit,
we
can
always
reach
minimum.
Ultimately,
so
there
is
always
I
have
a
compromise
we
can
face,
and
the
true
Q
is
the
issues.
That's
why
that
each
time
on
the
Planning
Commission,
when
most
time
it's
in
the
past
eight
years
that
we
almost
reach
most
time,
we
can
reach
consensus.
I.
G
H
H
Excuse
me
so
one
of
my
skills
as
a
social
worker
is
community
development
and
community
engagement
and
working
in
the
community
is
very
near
and
dear
to
me,
and
something
that
I
like
to
do,
because
I
like
to
get
my
hands
dirty
in
a
sense
and
so
I
feel
comfortable
working
in
very
diverse
communities
and
I.
Think
that
this
school
district
has
very
diverse
communities.
All
the
way
from
the
foothills
of
Cupertino
and
to
North.
Santos,
Annabelle
and
I
have
always
been
a
proponent
and
advocate
of
making
sure
that
all
communities
are
heard.
H
All
communities
are
brought
to
the
table
and
all
communities
feel
that
they
have
value
when
they
come
to
the
table,
and
so
simple
things
like
having
meetings
out
in
a
neighborhood
where
the
families
and
parents
can
get
to,
as
opposed
to
maybe
at
the
district
office.
Because
many
of
our
parents,
although
may
be
working,
have
hourly
jobs
as
opposed
to
salary
positions
and
aren't
always
able
to
have
the
luxury
to
come
afternoon.
Meaning
or
early
meeting
or
takeoff
fork.
D
D
We
started
doing
something
we
call
board
office
hours
and
we'll
see
how
effective
that
is
in
reaching
out
to
people,
but
it's
a
chance
for
two
board
members
to
go
meet
with
people
in
a
setting
which
is
not
subject
to
the
formal
constraints
of
a
meeting
and
a
board
meeting
and
the
citizen
advisory
committees,
which
were
suggested
I,
think
have
also
proven
to
be
a
really
effective
tool
for
our
district.
It's
a
chance
for
people
to
drill
down
on
a
subject
and
really
become
better
informed.
Thank.
B
F
My
top
priorities
for
the
school
district
or
for
our
school
community.
What
I
would
say
is
excellent
and
comprehensive
education
for
all
our
students
with,
while
keeping
the
Student
Wellness
at
the
forefront
and
that
ties
into
the
priority
of
caring
recruitment
and
retention
of
great
teachers
and
supporting
all
their
needs.
Collaborating
with
all
the
stakeholders.
Parents,
teachers,
students,
administration,
because
that's
how
you
get
things
done,
and
accountability
and
transparent
in
all
operations
and
communication.
F
That
is
so
important,
because
if
you
have
a
transparent
communication,
you
can
involve
the
community
in
you
can
give
them
all
the
information
that
is
needed
for
them
to
accept
a
decision
and
to
contribute
to
a
decision
or
a
solutions.
So
that's
what
my
priorities
are
revolved
around
the
word:
care
collaboration,
accountability,
retention
of
great
teachers
and
excellent
education
with
Student
Wellness
at
the
forefront.
Thank.
F
G
I,
don't
set
up
a
so
particular
priority.
I
just
want
to
continue
working
with
accountable
member
continue
that
there
are
accidents
and
working
with
the
superintendent
working
with
the
teacher
working
with
parents
and
there's
always
a
question.
There's
always
a
priority
changes
but
I
dedicated
a
committee
working
with
all
the
people.
Anything
is
a
we
commit
here.
It
can
be
changed,
but
I
think
it's
the
my
pre-pre
versa.
G
H
Thank
you.
My
priorities
are
to
maintain
this
very
quality
High
School
District,
and
with
that
looking
at
equity
and
quality
of
education
for
all
of
our
students,
resources
and
professional
development,
opportunities
for
our
teachers
and
our
staff,
fiscal
being
fiscally
responsive
and
responsible,
and
the
lens
that
I
think
I
bring
that's
very
different,
is
I
would
champion
social-emotional
learning
and
social,
emotional,
health
and
well-being.
I
think
that's
in
a
district
that
is
very
high-performing.
There
is
a
lot
of
stress
and
anxiety
amongst
our
students.
I
know
this
personally,
because
I
placed
counselors
in
the
schools.
B
H
C
Have
ten
how
many
chances
to
interact
with
our
students
from
the
district?
They
love
their
schools,
but
at
the
same
time
they
first
trust
from
very
strong
academic
environment
and
I
can
also
see
I
mean
this
high
school
period
is
really
critical
for
them
because
after
they
graduate
they
are
loaned,
they
need
to
manage
them.
You
know
themselves
especially
their
stress.
They
need
to
handle
their
stress
alone
and
I,
see
I
mean
many
college
students
they
drink
a
lot
and
sometimes
they
resort
to
drugs,
and
they
don't
know
how
to
solve.
C
D
D
Outstanding
teachers-
we've
done
this
by
making
what
one
of
our
people
call
us
our
destination
district
by
making
in
a
district,
where
there's
a
level
of
trust
that
people
where
people
like
to
work
where
their
support,
where
there's
professional
development.
But
we
need
to
address
the
questions
of
this
being
a
high
cost
area
and
find
more
in
terms
of
revenue
and
cost
savings
to
be
able
to
deal
with
salary
and
housing.
We
need
to
keep
a
sound
budget.
D
It's
not
just
money,
it's
money
for
students
and
that's
what
makes
everything
else
go
and
finally,
and
especially
important.
We
need
to
keep
our
culture
of
collaboration,
which
is
what
enables
our
team
to
really
be
able
to
deal
with
the
other,
very
strong,
very
important
priorities
that
have
been
mentioned
here
tonight.
Well,.
E
These
these
programs
that
will
encourage
critical
thinking,
teamworks
access
to
tutoring
internship
and
mentoring
and
engaging
our
knowledge
rich
community
to
invest
the
time,
great
ideas
and
energy
to
strengthen
our
high
schools,
promote
transparent,
concurrent
communication,
positive
parent
involvement.
We
should
establish
a
strong
communication
structure,
inform
and
engage
all
the
stakeholders
like
parents,
administrators
teachers,
students
and
community
members
in
and
in
selling
gold.
Addressing
parent
community's
concerns
constructively,
effectively
use
school
resources
to
maintain
excellence
in
our
schools.
Thank.
B
G
I
think
it's
a
compared
with
the
cosd.
Previously
the
Fremont
Union
High
School
is
in
pretty
good
health,
a
financial
situation
that
we
have
to
understand
our
financial,
the
the
money
they're
coming
from
it's
a
weak
basica,
basically
the
system
that
means
that
most
of
the
money
so
we're
coming
from
a
property
tax.
Besides
the
property
tax
that
we
have
also
said,
we
have
some
other
options
either
at
the
personal
tax
or
we
can
easily
band.
G
Suffice
the
Challenger
for
the
property
taxes
that
we
have
a
commercial
property,
whether
it's
ariza
lot,
but
the
people
don't
sell,
is
to
the
onion
realize
that
property
tax
can
be
used
for
the
school
most
of
our
school
district
money
coming
from
sunny.
Well,
because
the
senator
has
a
lot
of
investment
and
the
property
going.
That's
the
we
have
a
measure
CC
on
the
palette
and
I'm
a
support
of
measure
CC
to
make
sure
that
our
classroom
can
be
built
in
the
future.
H
Well,
I
think
that
there
are
one
of
the
things
that
we
need
to
look
at
is
to
make
sure
that
we
are
fiscally
responsible,
as
we
make
our
decisions
and
I
believe
that
the
budget
is
a
moral
document
and
it
really
looks
at
what
your
priorities
are,
and
so
with
that
you,
if
the
measure
CC
doesn't
pass
there
are
you
know,
I'm
hoping
that
it
will
because
I've
endorsed
it.
But
you
know
we
would
have
to
be
looking
at
what
we
need
to
do
then.
H
H
B
C
For
the
district
of
Finance
85%
to
90%,
from
local
property
tax
and
about
10%
from
puzzle
all
tax,
and
then
we
spend
82
percent
about
82
percent
for
our
teachers
and
my
staff
salary.
So
there's
no
room
I
mean
we
can
have.
We
can
you
know,
reorganize
our
budget,
so
I
think.
As
the
previous
candidates
mentioned,
the
district
needs
more
fun
to
update
their
a
14
year
old
classrooms
and
currently
doing
a
bond
campaigning
major
CC
and
I
most
I,
also
in
der
stadt
and
for
the
upcoming
election,
and
we
need
so.
C
D
The
fact
is
that,
of
course,
California
is
in
the
bottom,
ten
in
the
state
and
funding
and
even
a
per
pupil
basis,
and
even
though
we're
a
bit
above
that
we're
barely
national
average
and
we're
in
a
very
high-cost
area
as
far
as
as
expenses,
and
we
are
facing
a
couple
of
things
that
are
going
to
take
more
hits
out
of
the
budget
due
to
some
decisions
the
state
made
in
the
early
2000s.
They
we
need
to
catch
up
on
funding
the
teacher
and
the
Employee
Retirement
programs
and
those
amounts
are
going
up
dramatically.
D
So
we
have
to
be
able
to
deal
with
that.
There
are
ways
we
can
do
things
we
can
reduce
costs.
We've
done
that
with
things
like
the
solar
panels.
You
see
if
we're
successful
this
November
with
the
new
bond
issue.
We
can
do
some
more
that
we
can
renovate
400
other
classrooms
and
bring
them
up
to
date,
so
maintenance
will
be
less
and
that
will
help
us
free
up
some
more
funds.
Thank.
B
E
Mina,
like
Bill
mention
mentioned,
we
do
have
budget
issues
or
there
are
situations
they
do
have.
Budget
situations
in
my
educational
training
and
accounts
I
have
learned
planning,
plays
a
big
role
in
preparing
an
accurate
budget,
be
clear
about
your
goals.
Plan
for
various
scenarios,
involve
your
entire
team,
communicate
early
and
often
and
overall,
be
fiscally
responsible.
E
F
The
budgetary
problems
our
district,
fortunately,
is
well
financially
managed
and
that,
as
a
parent
and
as
a
taxpayer,
I
am
very
happy
about
it.
Do
we
need
to
continue
doing
that
and
tap
into
other
resources?
Would
there
be
problems
in
the
future
that
there
could
be
because
the
property
tax
structure
is
such
with
the
expansion
of
rental
units
all
around
us,
whether
sunnygurl
and
we
do
need
them
as
affordable
housing?
F
But
with
that
we
need
to
explore
things
that
can
shore
up
our
budgets,
something
we
need
to
advocate
at
a
higher
level,
other
state,
whether
we
can
drop
the
parcel
tax
approvals
below
66%,
so
that
we
can
shore
up
the
compensation
for
our
teachers
so
that
we
can
retain
them
if
our
budgetary
of
things
do
not
allow
us
beyond.
We
have
a
huge
student
base.
We
need
to
fund
programs,
we
need
to
put
resources
in
the
classroom,
so
there
are
so
many
challenges
that
can
come
down
the
line
and
we
need
paper.
B
Thank
you
very
much
appreciate
it.
Thank
you,
I
know
you
mean
the
next
question
is
for
you
and
it's
kind
of
long,
one
of
the
beliefs
of
Fremont,
Union,
says
and
I'm
going
to
quote
it.
Maintaining
our
excellence
requires
that
we
commit
to
ensuring
high
levels
of
learning
for
all
students,
learning
that
is
not
limited
to
the
knowledge
and
skills
measured
on
state
and
national
assessments.
H
That's
a
good
question:
I
think
that
it's
important
that
we
have
good
community
engagement
and
parent
engagement,
one
of
the
things
that
as
I
or
sit
on
the
WASC
team
at
Homestead,
High
School.
One
of
the
goals
was
to
bring
up
the
four-year
college
entrance
the
Latino
community.
But,
as
you
said
in
that
room,
there
were
no
Latino
parents
in
that
room,
and
so
how
do
we
work
with
achieving
that
goal
when
we
aren't
engaged
with
the
community
so
with
that?
B
Question
but
one
of
the
main
beliefs
of
Freemont
Union
says
I'm,
going
to
quote
it.
Maintaining
our
excellent
requires
that
we
commit
to
ensuring
high
levels
of
learning
for
all
students,
learning
that
is
not
limited
to
knowledge
and
skills,
measured
on
state
and
national
assessments.
Within
the
context
of
that
statement,
how
will
you
ensure
that
all
students
are
given
the
opportunity
to
learn
at
the
highest
levels?
B
C
C
We
can
make
more
I
made
various
programs
at
District,
especially
not
just
I,
missed
M
education.
We
need
to
have
a
more
variety
of
our
programs,
like
art,
sports
and
music,
that
kind
of
comprehend
Kremp
comprehensive
program
that
will
be
really
helpful
for
their
long
long
life,
and
then
it
will
be
really
make
them
have
more
opportunities
over
to
learn
about
their
life
goal
and
it'll
be
helpful,
so
I'd
like
to
reinforce
their
kind
of
various
enrichment
programs.
Thank.
D
First
of
all,
thank
you
for
bringing
up
the
belief
statement.
It's
I
would
recommend
to
people
to
go
to
the
free
menu
high
school
district
website
and
look
at
that
I
think.
It
says
a
lot
about
our
district,
specifically
for
making
sure
we
ensure
high
levels
of
learning
for
all
students.
First
of
all,
it
takes
a
lot
of
different
programs
to
do
that.
We've
got
11,000
students
in
our
high
schools,
they're,
not
all
cut
from
the
same
mold,
they
have
different
needs
and
we
need
to
meet
those
needs.
D
So
we
have
our
comprehensive
high
schools
that
serve
the
majority
vast
majority
of
our
students,
but
we
have
a
number
of
other
programs
and
within
those
we
have
things
like
the
avid
program
for
students
who
might
be
first-time
college
goers
to
teach
them
study
skills.
So
a
lot
of
programs.
Also,
we
do
a
lot
of
work
with
teachers
on
this.
Just
this
last
week,
we've
just
done
an
equity
focus
to
make
sure
teachers
understand
how
to
reach
out
to
and
staff
understand
how
to
reach
out
and
make
sure
that
everybody
is
being
included.
D
B
B
We
will
not
write
a
long
question
again.
One
of
the
beliefs
of
promote
union
says
and
I
quote.
Maintaining
our
excellence
requires
that
we
commit
to
ensuring
high
levels
of
learning
for
all
students,
learning
that
is
not
limited
to
the
knowledge
and
skills
measured
on
state
and
national
assessments.
Within
the
context
of
that
statement,
how
will
you
ensure
that
all
students
are
given
the
opportunity
to
learn
at
the
highest
levels?
Thank
you
so.
E
I
believe
in
equity,
all
students
should
have
access
to
all
the
resources.
Each
eye
learns
differently
and
I
believe
that
every
child
has
to
be
taught
in
the
manner
they
were
learned.
Our
priorities
are
not
one.
We
have.
We
have
interlinked
priorities.
We
have
several
of
them.
For
instance,
parent
involvement,
teacher
having
resources
created
for
teaching
excellent
are
giving
excellent
training
to
our
students,
creating
wellness
programs.
All
these
lead
to
a
top
goal.
E
Student
success
as
an
active
perineal
district
I
agree
with
most
of
the
experts
that
parent
involvement
in
their
children's
education
is
one
of
the
biggest
predictors
for
student
success.
We
should
utilize
individual
strengths
of
each
in
each
parent.
We
should
be
I
believe
in
the
in
leaving
your
child
behind.
Thank
you
thank.
F
So
our
our
school
district
has
a
very
high
graduation
rate-
that's
96
percent,
but
we
do
have
achievement
gaps
for
our
English
learners
for
our
students
with
disabilities
and
students
from
low-income
population.
Children
are
our
future
and
I
believe
that
every
child,
whatever
background
they
come
from
or
where
they
belong.
They
need
access
to
high
quality,
public
education
and
an
opportunity
to
succeed.
F
What
we
can
do
as
a
school
district
is
use
our
general
funds
and
I
believe
it's
being
done
to
have
targeted
intervention
programs
for
these
students
to
have
monitoring
of
achievements
of
this
students
so
that
the
families
can
be
involved
and
they
can
be
helped.
There
could
be
a
Student
Success
teams
for
these
students.
We
need
to
raise
all
our
children
up
so
that
the
achievement
results
are
equal
to
the
rest
of
the
population
of
our
school
district
and
I.
Think
a
school
district
can
manage.
Thank.
G
I
think
this
is
our
school
district.
A
mission
statement
that
we
want
to
achieve
the
academic
equity
and
before
coming
to
this
foreign
I
visited
a
five
high
school
principal's
office.
Have
a
contact,
one-on-one
interval
with
each
principals
I
know
each
schools.
We
have
all
different
differences,
especially
for
the
Freeman
high
homestead,
compare
with
sterling
Branca
and
Monte
Vista.
It's
all
different,
but
I
want
our
students
can
achieve
academic
excellence
and
receive
a
comprehensive
education.
G
B
C
Well,
I
was
a
principal
of
language
school,
always
professional
training
is
really
critical
to
improve
I
mean
the
education
quality.
So,
through
my
experience
to
host
teacher
seminar
for
local
school
teachers,
I
got
to
know
many
professors
are
in
local
ecologist
and
that
they
are
really
willingly
and
they
really
wanted.
I
wanted
to
have
a
true.
The
product
can
teach
program
actually
to
reach
out
to
the
stars,
low-cost
schools,
teachers
and
will
need
to
offer
their
professional
knowledge
knowledge,
so
I
think
I
mean
I
can
reach
out
at
the
district
as
a
district
board.
C
D
B
D
D
It's
been
something
that
and
we've
heard
from
some
applicants
that
they
saw
that
and
they
thought
that's
the
kind
of
district
where
I'm
going
to
work
and
we've
got
a
new
teacher
induction
program,
a
teacher
mentoring
program
that
really
help
teachers
feel
like
they're
part
of
the
district,
makes
them
better
teachers
so
that
we've
got
we
bring
in
good
people
and
make
them
even
better.
All
of
those
things
are
valuable.
D
We've
got
a
culture
of
trust,
that's
been
built
from
respect
and
transparency
and
I
think
the
board
has
a
big
role
in
making
sure
we
keep
that
going.
But
at
the
same
time
there
are
hard
issues
that
we
have
to
deal
with.
We
have
to
deal
with
the
cost
of
living.
We
have
to
do
everything
we
can
to
see
if
we
can
find
increased
revenues
and
bring
down
costs
so
that
we
can
pay
more.
We
have
to
help
with
housing.
Look
for
partnerships,
we
can't
build
the
housing
by
ourselves,
but
look
thank.
F
Way
to
recruit
and
retain
our
great
teachers
is
the
biggest
thing.
I
think
would
be
compensation
compensation
matters.
We
need
to
find
ways
within
our
limited
resources,
either
through
community
health
or
through
parcel
tax,
a
ritual
way
so
that
we
can
give
them
adequate
compensation
when
they
travel
from
Pleasanton
San
Francisco
Santa
Cruz.
There
are
distances
that
they
travel.
We
need
to
do
something
that
will
help
them.
Besides
that,
of
course,
we
need
to
support
all
their
needs
professional
development.
F
We
need
to
create
an
environment
where
they
feel
respected,
where
they
feel
wanted,
and
that's
one
of
the
ways
our
revenue
sharing
model
of
our
district
is
one
way
to
show
our
teachers
that
we
respect
them.
We
want
them
with
us,
of
course.
The
housing
affordability
is
the
big
problem,
but
the
school
district
cannot
go
in
the
business
of
construction,
so
we
need
to
work
with
the
cities.
We
need
to
have.
Partnership
like
bill
said
to
work
out
some
way
where
we
could
have
affordable
housing
for
them.
For
the
teacher.
G
Doing
there
can
people
keep
up
making
promise,
but
I
don't
want
to
making
any
promises
for
the
teachers
but
I'm
sure
in
my
past
eight
years,
at
the
planning,
Commissioner
I
work
with
developer
work
with
cities
which
why
to
solve
the
the
public
servants,
housing
issues
and
in
the
future.
I'm
also
continue
to
advocate
for
the
teachers,
the
housing
issue,
but
also
it's
a
winged
visitor
all
the
principals.
They
have
so
many
different
teachers,
training
programs
and
these
programs
the
deserve
public
policy
and
deserve
a
board
member
to
support
them.
G
You
know
it's
a
under
every
position.
I
think
I
always
have
a
lot
of
ideas,
but
here
I
just
don't
want
to
mention
all
the
ideas.
I
have
I'm
going
to
working
with
the
board
member
to
make
sure
that
I
rely
dia,
so
we
can
implement
that
we
can
access
that
we
can
make
sure
it's
they
realize.
Thank
you.
Thank.
H
You
Naomi
as
a
non-profit
executive
who
recruits
staff
I,
really
understand
how
difficult
this
is,
and
nonprofit
salaries
are
oftentimes
even
lower
than
teacher
salaries.
Unfortunately,
and
so
one
of
the
things
that
I
think
that
and
I
agree
with
what
the
other
speakers
have
said
before
me,
but
so
in
addition
to
making
sure
that
salaries
are
competitive,
it's
really
looking
to
show
teachers
and
I
think
what's
important
too,
is
staff
because
we
it's
important
to
recruit
quality
staff
is
to
show
them
the
value
that
they
provide
to
our
students
and
to
our
district.
H
One
of
the
things
and
I
want
to
emphasize
quality,
because
as
someone
who
has
hired
many
people,
you
can
tell
the
difference
between
someone
who
comes
in
and
does
this
as
a
job
as
opposed
to
someone
who
does
this
as
a
passion.
And
so
one
of
the
things
that
I
would
like
to
do
is
be
able
to
make
sure
that
they
are
valued
and
confident.
B
Thank
you
very
much
so
bill.
The
next
question
will
begin
with
you
and
it's
interesting
that
we
begin
with
you
on
this
one,
because
this
is
a
question
about
the
existing
boards
performance
based
on
your
experiences
and
the
syste
the
whole
team
here
in
observing
the
current
board
or
participating
on
it.
What
are
they
doing
well
and
if
you're
really
did
and
become
a
trustee?
What
would
you
like
to
see
changed?
Okay,.
D
B
D
An
interesting
one,
well,
first
of
all,
I've
founded
a
pleasure
to
work
on
this
board,
and
one
of
the
things
that
I
think
is
great
about
this
board
is
that
we
have
been
able
to
work
together,
respect
each
other.
We
don't
always
come
in
with
the
same
ideas,
but
we
can
discuss
and
everybody
has
a
sort
of
different
background,
a
different
perspective.
They
bring
to
the
table
and
I
think
it
winds
up
with
better
solutions.
As
a
group
and
I
think
everybody
on
the
board
is
committed
to
the
best
interests
of
all
students.
D
I
think
one
of
the
things
that
we
continue
to
work
with
is
doing
even
more
in
terms
of
connecting
with
the
community
as
we're
experimenting
with
some
things:
the
board
office
hours,
which
I
think
are
a
good
idea,
but
maybe
there's
more
that
we
can
do
so
as
we
go
forward.
I'd
like
to
like
to
see
us
continue
to
work
on
that,
we
actually
do
a
self
of
a
self
evaluation.
This
year
we
did
okay
on
the
marks,
but
we're
going
to
continue
to
do
that
so
that
we
can
continue
to
get
better.
E
B
E
Sure
I
would
like
to
bring
more
of
parent
engagement.
Have
the
parent
community
get
involved
and
board
the
more
of
the
board
meetings
when
parents
get
involved?
There's
a
huge
difference.
I
would
like
to
have
open
communication,
two-way
communications
and
pretty
much
sure
I'm,
not
on
the
boat.
So
it's
hard
to
tell,
apart
from
setting
the
visions
like
I
mentioned
earlier,
vision
and
goals,
adopting
policies
and
or
seeing
annual
budget
I
think
maintaining
transparency
and
ensuring
accountability.
Providing
support
is
one
of
the
most
important
thing
a
board
member
can
bring
to
the
table.
Thank.
B
F
But
I
first
end
it
countless
of
board
meetings,
sat
through
those
four
and
five
hours
that
they
spent
listening
to
the
teachers.
Listening
to
the
community
members
I
have
even
presented
to
the
board
meeting
on
behalf
of
the
citizen
advisory
committee.
The
solution
that
we
recommended
the
Wellness
task
force
the
solution
that
the
teamwork
I
have
been
a
part
of
those
communication
team.
F
One
thing
as
a
parent
because
I'm
not
about
member
as
a
parent
I,
would
say
that
our
board
members,
the
thing
that
I
feel
are
they're
very
compassionate
and
they
care
for
our
students.
I
see
the
value,
have
the
value,
the
staff.
They
are
always
very
respectful
to
see
the
staff
presentations
and
our
staff
are
pretty
innovative.
So
this
is
something
seen
what
could
be
done?
F
A
little
better
I
would
say
a
little
bit
more
outreach
a
little
bit
of
more
communication,
because
parents
are
really
busy
if
I
did
not
go
to
these
board
meetings
and
I
was
not
involved
in
these
committees.
For
sure
I
would
not
know
the
amount
of
things
that
a
school
district
does
or
has
to
do
for
our
students.
So
that
is
one
thing:
I
would
improve
the
communication
a
bit
more.
Thank.
G
I
appreciate
that
at
least
the
three
board
members
that
come
in
in
this
room
has
been
working
together
with
me
in
the
Rotary
Club
I've
been
working
with
Jeff
more
as
a
co-chair
for
the
youth
community
service
in
in
two
years,
and
also
it's
a
long
ways.
Also
is
my
mentor
to
to
guide
me
on
the
public
service
when
I
first
moved
to
the
Cupertino
is
a
home.
We
have
our
coffee
taught
with
me,
states
that
we
always
put
up
for
the
community
about
ourselves.
G
That's
that
10
years
ago,
talk
and
also
is
working
with
a
community
Rotary
Club
with
the
bill
Jeff
and
the
hallways
real,
really
builders,
the
personal
friendship
and
the
trust
and
make
sure
it's
that
we
reach
out
to
the
higher
level
unity
and
build
community
together.
Thank
you,
I
think
it
or
Boris
the
were
very
good
I'm,
going
to
continue
this
excellence
to
working
with
the
every
board.
No
matter,
oh.
Oh
thank.
H
They
have
a
high
level
of
respect
for
each
other
and
not
only
for
each
other,
but
for
the
team
that
they
have
built
with
the
administration
and
the
superintendent
and
the
teachers
union
and
the
classified
union
and
anyone
else
who
comes
to
make
presentations.
One
of
the
things
that
I
also
appreciate
is
that
the
board
goes
out
to
the
community.
They
have
board
meetings
out
in
each
of
the
schools,
which
makes
it
easier
for
us
to
attend
sometimes,
and
so
I've
been
able
to
be
in
attendance
when
they've
come
to
Homestead,
High,
School
and.
H
C
C
C
So
I
know
I'm
in
our
school
is
really
great,
but
they
don't
know
what's
going
on
its
course,
so
I
feel
this
connection
between
schools
and
community
when
they
I
mean,
after
they
quit
their
children,
crazy
from
student
from
schools,
so
I
think
I
mean
our
students
can
make
initiative
in
connecting
our
schools
and
neighboring
communities.
They
do
sports
games
at
school
and
they
do
have
performance.
Why
not
promoting
their
activities
to
neighboring
communities.
Thank
you
very
much.
B
F
G
Here
yesterday,
in
this
hall,
I
appreciate
this
Intendant
Poli,
Poli
and
assistant
superintendent,
growing
ham
and
also
our
school
board
members
always
here
we
turned
our
town-hall
meeting
here
to
teach
people
and
educated
people
how
measure
CC
should
be
passed
in
this
community.
We
have
a
from
2008,
we
have
a
measure
K
and
we
have
a
measure
G
and
also
we
have
a
measure.
We
have
a
personal
tax
that
we
all
go
through.
G
The
the
committee
community
oversized
community
to
over
see
how
we
spend
the
money
is
time
for
us
to
have
more
money
to
build
a
modernized
or
classroom.
That's
why
I
support
a
measure,
CC
and
I
hope
all
the
residents
here
can
have
a
our
community
support
to
vote
for
years.
For
the
measure
CC.
That's
the
community
is
a
property.
Well,
you
going
to
race
to
thank
you.
Thank.
H
I
support
measure,
CC
I
also
have
a
lawn
sign
in
my
on
my
line,
and
so
that's
a
public
support
of
it
also
I
really
believe
in
the
modders
moderate
modernization
of
our
classrooms
for
the
health
and
well-being
of
our
students,
and
also
making
sure
that
the
upgrades
and
the
safety
factors
are
taken.
Care
of.
Thank
you
very
much.
Rosa.
C
Yeah,
the
majesty
see
this
our
support
method,
CC,
and
this
bond
is
really
important
to
maintain
the
high
quality
education.
Our
students
are
receiving
and
then
I,
dementia
and
I
know
I'm
in
our
classrooms
40
year
long
for
a
year,
long,
the
classrooms
and
that
they
really
need.
We
know
based
I,
know.
I
me
from
my
first
experience:
I
taught
in
her
classroom
and
I
could
see
lots
of
things
to
be
renovated
and
by
the
way,
but
our
our
follow
with
boating
research
and
they
take
appropriate
action
and.
D
I
strongly
support
measure
CC,
so
I
think
we've
shown
the
community
that
we
can
handle
the
money.
Well,
we've
done
our
facilities
work
on
time
and
on
budget
and
with
the
highest
credit
rating
in
the
state
of
California
for
any
school
district,
so
that
the
money
can
go
to
the
to
classrooms.
Instead
of
to
interest,
we've
got
over
400
classrooms
that
really
haven't
been
touched
in
since
the
50s
and
60s
they
need
upgrading.
It
will
help
the
teaching
and
learning
that
goes
on
there
and
it
will
also
save
us
costs.
D
B
B
F
Please
yes,
so
I
have.
The
question
that
I
think
should
be
asked
is:
what
are
the
challenges
that
are
being
a
bold
district
trustee
involves
so
a
board
trustee
as
a
vote
trustee
the
biggest
challenge
that
you
encounter.
Is
you
make
a
decision
that
impacts
11,000
students
and
families?
In
effect?
Essentially,
you
are
a
parent
of
11,000
children
or
you
have
to
balance
the
needs
and
the
priority
of
diverse
families
that
our
school
district
has.
So
that
is
something
that
we
need
to
take
into
account
as
a
school
board
district.
F
It's
not
as
a
school
trustee,
it's
not
about
I.
It's
about.
We.
We
need
to
be
able
to
work
collaboratively
with
our
peers
with
our
school
staff
with
our
community
so
that
we
get
to
a
better
decision,
collaborative
approach,
accountability,
transparency,
community
involvement
is
what
I
pledge
to
bring
to
the
school
board
as
a
school
board
trustee,
and
that
is
what
I
would
thank.
G
I,
like
people,
ask
me
the
trustee
how
you
can
help
Fremont
Union
High,
School,
District,
Foundation,
Education
Foundation.
It's
a
people
always
think
is
that
there
is
some
money
for
the
Fremont
Union
High
School,
but
there's
some
money.
There's
the
people
couldn't
use
that.
So
we
need
a
free,
Marina,
High,
School,
District
Foundation
to
chip
in
the
money.
I
think
it's
like
a
fundraiser
in
the
past
ten
years
to
all
kind
of
volunteer
organization,
I
think
it's
my
capacity
and
my
passion.
It's
the
to
do.
G
B
H
Naomi
I'd
like
to
ask
a
different
question
and
it's
a
more
personal
question,
but
it
gets
to
my
commitment
and
my
passion
for
students,
and
that
question
is
what
is
something
that
you
mean.
Others
may
not
know
of
about
me
in
this
room
and
it's
that
I
volunteer
in
the
jails
and
I
go
there
and
I've
put
it
on
hold
right
now
for
the
last
couple
of
months,
because
I've
been
campaigning
but
I
go
once
a
week
and
I
provide
Buddhist
education
to
men
at
the
main
jail
and
as
I
sit.
H
There
I
see
young
men
who
have
had
opportunities
that
have
been
lost,
and
my
commitment
is
that
I
do
not
want
to
see
any
student
in
the
Fremont
Union
High,
School
District
sitting
in
any
of
those
cells,
and
so
I
think
education
is
a
key
to
that.
And
you
know
yes,
sometimes
people
make
poor
choices
and
some
of
the
stuff
that
they
are
dealing
with
our
obstacles,
but
I
think
that
when
we
provide
an
education
as
a
pathway,
then
thank.
C
Please
yeah.
My
question
is
our
district
is
providing
a
great
education
for
our
students.
What
are
the
ways
we
can
do
better
to
help
students
to
be
more
successful?
Overall,
I
have
to
mention
that
the
district
has
strong
academic
environment,
but
there
are
voices
for
more
comprehensive
high
school
programs.
We
have
to
increase
hours
for
mental
and
emotional
wellness
program
and
develop
programs
specifically
to
manage
stress,
like
small
group
discussion
session,
with
a
mental
teacher
for
a
comprehensive
program.
C
We
need
to
provide
more
various
programs,
not
just
as
a
STEM
program,
so
I
think
there
are
needs
I
mean
from
students.
Then
they
want
to
learn
more
about
various
subjects
like
cooking
or
Morris
or
the
kind
of
program.
So
maybe
we
need
to
keep
reinforcing
our
various
programs
and
we
can
also
reach
out
to
parents.
Volunteers.
C
D
Okay,
so
I
may
be
preaching
to
the
choir
with
this,
but
my
question
is:
why
should
members
of
the
community
care
about
the
schools,
even
if
they
do
not
have
a
child
in
the
school
system,
so
I
think
public
institutions
or
public
schools
are
a
core
institution
of
our
democracy?
Of
course
we
want
to
do
things
to
prepare
students
to
be
successful
in
a
career,
so
they
can
be
productive
and
they
can
have
a
success
that
can
have
a
fulfilling
life.
D
They
can
pay
taxes,
they
can
be
contributing
members
of
the
community,
but
public
schools,
if
done
right,
can
do
much
more.
They
can
engage
students
in
the
community
in
a
way
that
is
not
possible
in
any
other
with
any
other
institution.
They
can
bring
people
together
so
that
they
can
learn
how
you
work
with
people.
D
You
disagree
with
something
we
really
need
now,
especially
in
this
community,
bringing
people
together
when
we
have
the
asset
that
we
got
people
from
all
over
the
world,
and
if
we
bring
people
together
in
our
public
schools,
we
can
really
capitalize
on
that
asset
and
help
make
this
world
a
better
place
in
the
future.
Thank.
B
E
Know
so
the
question
I
would
would
have
been
like
to
ask:
was
what
steps
could
the
boat
take
to
establish
communities,
trust
in
my
years
of
leadership
why
one
of
my
biggest
achievement
was
bringing
our
team
together
with
bringing
together
our
team
with
other
board
members
and
bringing
the
community
together
in
support
of
our
students
and
programs?
All
this
is
possible
only
with
involving
the
community
by
building
their
trust,
I
believe
effective
school
boards
are
accountably
driven
spending
less
time
on
operational
issues
and
more
time
focused
on
policies
to
improve
student
achievement.
Thank
you.
Thank.
