Description
Cupertino held its Earth Day on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Quinlan Community Center.
A
B
Compact,
fluorescents
and
low
flow
shower
heads
and
we'll
go
around
your
house
and
find
ways
that
you
can
save
energy
on
your
home
entertainment
system
on
your
electronics
and
other
kinds
of
things
like
maybe
talking
about
insulation
and
things
like
that
and
we've
been
training
a
crew
of
volunteers.
To
do
this,
we
have
over
175
volunteers,
including
some
wonderful
cupertino
residents,
and
so
we're
ready
to
serve
looking
forward
to
it.
So.
A
When
you
talk
about
the
free
home
energy
audit,
the
clothesline,
the
low
flow
adapters,
is
there
a
cost
for
those.
B
A
Great
now,
what
do
you
have
here
today.
B
We're
trying
to
show
people
about
what
they
can
do
to
save
energy
with
their
lighting
products.
For
example,
we
have
the
old-fashioned
incandescent
light
bulb
that
takes
75
watts
and
you
turn
it
on.
You
realize
it's
really
a
heater.
I
don't
know
if
you
can
see
it
in
the
light,
but
it's
really
so
hot.
I
don't
even
want
my
hand
to
touch
it.
I
can
feel
the
heat
even
as
far
back
as
here.
Ninety
percent
of
the
electricity
here
is
used
to
produce
heat
and
only
10
percent
light.
B
This
is
the
new
compact
fluorescent
light
bulb
well
they're,
not
so
new,
actually
they've
been
out
for
about
10
or
15
years.
This
one
only
uses
14
watts,
it's
the
same
amount
of
illumination,
but
it's
one-fifth
of
the
electricity
used
and
by
the
old-fashioned
bulb.
So
these
are
different
kinds
of
compact,
fluorescents
they're,
all
using
only
14
watts,
but
you
can
see
a
little
bit
the
different
colors
that
are
available
too.
B
Just
to
give
you
an
idea
that
not
all
of
compact
fluorescents
are
this
blue
light
that
some
people
don't
like
you-
can
get
them
in
more
white,
color
or
more
yellow
color
and
try
out
different
colors
in
different
rooms
and
see
what
you
like.
But
all
of
these
you
can
have
these
three
bulbs
for
less
electricity
than
using
one
of
the
old-fashioned
ones.
B
These
also
to
show
that
you
can
get
compact
fluorescents
in
different
kinds.
This
is
a
dimmer
that
would
fit
into
a
chandelier
and
you
can
see
how
it
dims
it
works
very
easily
and
gets
you
know
less
power
than
the
other
ones
too.
It
also
has
a
different
adapter
that
you
can
use.
So
if
you
want
to
buy
a
different
kind
of
a
fixture
to
fit
in
different
kinds
of
fixtures
that
you
have
you,
can
you
generally
find
different
ones
at
different
hardware
stores?
B
There
also
are
dimmable
compact
fluorescents
in
this
bigger
shape
as
well.
So
you
have
a
wide
variety
that's
available
now.
This
is
also
a
compact
fluorescent
bulb.
It's
inside
of
a
glass
that
looks
like
the
old-fashioned
kind,
but
you
can
see
inside,
is
the
bulb
and
it's
the
same
amount
of
electricity
only
using
14
watts,
but
it
just
has
a
nicer
shape
to
it
and
might
fit
into
a
bathroom
or
kitchen
fixture.
B
These
last
two
are
what's
called
light
emitting
diodes.
It's
all
together
a
different
and
most
new
kind.
These
bulbs
use
hardly
any
electricity
at
all.
This
one
uses
only
two
watts
it
was
on
and
I
didn't
even
notice
it
it's
a
small
little
one.
It
might
be
useful
for
a
night
light
or
eliminating
a
corner
of
your
room.
This
one
is
a
bigger
bulb
and
it
is
a
six
watt
bulb
involved,
cost
twenty
dollars,
but
it's
a
very
useful
bulb.
It
lasts
for
fifty
thousand
hours
of
working.
B
That's
several
years
and
it'd
be
the
kind
of
light.
It's
very
directional.
You
might
wanna
put
it
into
a
task
light
that
would,
you
know
shine
over
if
you
were
working
on
some
kind
of
project
or
reading
lamp,
or
something
also
they're
really
good
for
outdoor
flood
lights
and
things.
So
the
idea
basically
is
to
show
people
that
they
can
change
any
kind
of
light
bulb.
B
They
have
different
kinds
of
fixtures
now,
outdoor
ones,
indoor
ones,
different
kinds
of
shapes
and
sizes,
they're
all
energy
saving,
and
we
can
get
rid
of
these
old-fashioned
ones
that
are
basically
heaters
and
save
our
energy,
probably
using
only
a
fifth
of
the
amount.
What
I
recommend
people
to
do
is
to
go
around
your
house.
Take
a
clipboard
write
down
all
of
the
different
lighting
fixtures
that
you
have
you've
got
somebody
in
the
living
room,
somebody
in
the
kitchen
three
or
four
in
your
bedroom.
Take
it
to
the
hardware
store
any
unusual
shape
bulbs.
