GREENBIZ CUPERTINO
Participant Feedback: Strategies to Expand Program Participation
GreenBiz Cupertino is a new pilot program established to both champion and incentivize local Cupertino businesses that support our community by conserving energy and water, minimizing waste generation and preventing pollution. In this seventh and final installment, participants provide feedback regarding strategies and ways to expand program participation. (11 min.)
A
Given
that
we've,
we
spent
a
little
time
highlighting
the
program,
the
goals
of
the
program,
the
elements
of
the
program
and
then
now
also,
how
do
you
get
involved
and
how
do
you
grow
your
participation
in
the
program?
We
wanted
to
spend
a
little
bit
more
time,
getting
your
feedback,
and
this
can
be
on
the
spectrum
of
the
program
that
we
talked
about
today
and,
or
you
know,
some
of
your
goals
for
the
future
of
the
program.
A
I
know
that
some
of
you
are
already
in
raw
enrolled,
and
some
of
you
are
so
we
wanted
to
really
just
hear
from
you
about
I
just
put
down
basically
two
questions.
Essentially
one
is
what
would
encourage
your
participation
in
the
program
above
and
beyond
what
we
talked
about
today
and
or
just
feedback
on.
What
we
did
talk
about
today
are
are
the
the
utility
programs
that
are
offered
enough?
A
B
This
is
a
good
start
with
the
several
of
us
participating
in
this
I.
The
word
needs
to
go
out
so
probably
through
the
chamber
and
through
your
offices,
but
maybe
it
probably
would
need
you
know,
walking
the
stores
and
the
business
is
to
tell
them
about
this
program
or
leave
a
flyer
and
everything
because
a
lot
of
people
don't
in
the
small
businesses
really
look
at.
You
know,
hear
the
radio
local
radio
see
the
local
TV
channel
or
read
the
cupertino
scene.
B
So
if
somebody
can
volunteers
can
walk
and
drop,
you
know
leaflet
or
something
of
this
kind
that'll
help,
because
I'm
sure
people
need
to
know
how
it's
done
and
once
they
know
they
know
it's
like
the
city
is
offering
it
through
the
county
efforts
and
all
that
and
the
Chamber
efforts.
People
would
be
interested
you
go
and
as
if
you
can
explain
to
them
what
the
benefits
of
a
PP
yeah,
absolutely
the.
A
County
does
offer
really
great
flyers
on
that
and
I
know
that
Kelly
has
integrated
the
flyer
into
all
new
business,
license
mailings
and
certainly
has
been
handing
it
out
among
her
outreach
networks
like
the
Restaurant,
Association
and
others,
but
we'll
make
sure
that
we're
doing
that
and
to
a
broader
audience,
I
think
the
community
Congress
was
a
great
example
of
getting
the
word
out,
but
that
was
a
little
bit
more
targeted
on
the
residential
sector.
So
worked
a
couple
that
a
little
bit
more.
B
C
The
chamber
was
trying
to
get
certified.
You
know
that
so
we're
gonna
do
it
next
week,
probably
to
call
you
so
I
was
thinking
about
doing
something
like
for
more
businesses
to
join
give
them.
You
know
off
their
dues
or
something
because
a
lot
of
times
it
is
money
incentive,
because
so
much
of
our
board
is
you
know
on
here
trying
to
get
certified
to,
and
we
have
so
many
pge
recology.
So
we're
going
to
try
to
do
that
so
I'm
going
to
work
with
that.
To
do
so.
Maybe
dollars
off
on
joining,
be
good.
A
D
A
A
I
know
I
saw
some
other
pens
scrambling
to
write
down
the
names
of
our
presenters,
but
other
green
businesses
that
have
been
certified
will
check
with
them
to
see
if
it's
okay
for
you
to
come
as
well,
because
we
do,
we
do
want
to
have
kind
of
a
peer-to-peer
network
of
businesses
that
have
already
gone
through
the
program
that
are
available
as
mentors
able
for
hand-holding,
because
it
is
it's
a
very
comprehensive
program
and
you
may
have
specific
questions
that
are
eyes.
Cam
is
very,
very
available.
A
I've
actually
never
called
her
where
she
didn't
pick
up
the
phone
and
I'm
always
like
cam.
How
are
you
there
so
she's
fantastic
with
that,
but
I
think
it
also
would
be
wonderful
to
have
a
business
network
of
certified
businesses
in
cupertino
that
are
available
to
respond
to
questions
as
other
businesses
are
going
through.
The
program
yeah
yeah
I.
F
A
Also
working
to
collect
some
case
studies
of
that
I
mentioned
the
city's
facilities,
but
we
are
working
with
the
Silicon
Valley
energy
watch,
which
is
a
rate
funded
PG&E
program.
If
that's
I'm,
saying
that
correctly,
they're
operating
out
of
San
Jose
but
they've
done
a
lot
of
really
great
case.
Studies
of
the
programs
they've
implemented
from
going
through
audits
to
implementing
lighting,
retrofits
and
so
on,
and
there
they're
able
to
share
their
stories
of
specific
energy
savings
by
implementing
specific
improvements
and
the
facilities
that
they've
touched.
A
A
Any
other
things
you'd
like
to
address.
I
did
put
barriers
to
limit
your
participation,
but
that
has
a
little
bit
of
a
negative
connotation.
I,
don't
want
to
focus
on
that,
but
it
it
is
helpful
to
know
if,
if
there
are
things
that
you're
fearful
about
and
get
in
terms
of
getting
involved
in
the
program,
so
that
we
can
figure
out
again
how
the
city
can
support
you
or
the
county
can
support
you
as
you
work
to
grow
your
participation,
anyone
yeah
Vicki
I.
G
A
Think,
there's
a
little
bit
of
an
expect:
a
shin
with
businesses,
I
mean
such
as
Vicki's,
who
already
are
doing
so
much
as
they
relate
to
the
environment.
You're
dry,
clean
bags-
and
I
know
you
have
you
used
very
men.
No
chemicals
minimal
chemicals,
whatever
is
the
absolute
minimum.
That's
required
for
your
business
and
I
know
that
the
majority
of
your
customers
come
in
with
the
expectation
that
you're
going
to
be
able
to
talk
the
talk
as
it
relates
to
all
environmental
attributes
of
operating
a
business
in
cupertino.
A
A
Did
we
find
today
to
be
beneficial?
Vicki
said?
Yes,
everyone
else.
It's
helpful
to
sit
down
and
learn
a
little
bit
about
this
program,
firsthand
right,
rather
than
just
seeing
the
checklist
on
a
website.
That's
the
absolute
value
of
what
we
think
of
meeting
today
was
so
I'm
glad
to
hear
that
Mahesh
had
one
more
comment.
A
So
the
city
has
a
partnership
with
our
two
local
nurseries,
yah
Megumi's
and
summer
winds
located
right
next
door
to
each
other
and
they've
developed
the
list
for
us
of
what
they're,
considering
drought,
tolerant
and
native
plants.
We
were
very
specific
about
the
types
of
plants
that
we're
working
with
and
they
are
also
more
of
a
canopy
tree.
So
we
didn't
do
I
mean
there
are
some
arguments.
I
know,
cupertino's
foundation
comes
from
fruit
trees,
but
those
aren't
actually
native.
So
we
didn't
include
those
in
our
list.
A
We
are
going
to
actually
do
a
fruit
tree
program
with
the
school
very,
very,
very
soon.
So
that's
a
little
bit
of
a
different
program,
but
we
can
give
you
information
on
how
to
get
involved
in
that,
but
there's
a
list
of
those
pro
those
trees
available
on
our
website
and
we're
sending
out
certificates
now,
because
now
is
the
ideal
planting
season,
so
I
would
definitely
suggest
you
get
your
checklist
in.
You
can
get
your
kilowatt
meter.
A
You
can
shop,
the
green
depot,
get
your
free,
Cupertino
t-shirt
and
get
your
tree
all
in
one
fell
swoop.
So
so
thank
you.
Everyone
for
joining
us
today,
again
shop,
the
green
depot
before
you
take
off
and
stick
around
if
you're
participating
in
the
office
hours
that
are
hosted
by
the
county
and
feel
free
to
have
some
more
water,
fruit,
coffee
and
so
on.
Thanks
for
joining
us
today,.
