Description
Laura Lee discusses the Cupertino Block Leader program.
A
B
Thank
you
much
hello,
everybody,
hello!
Okay!
There
only
three
of
us
left,
so
the
trend
go
real
fast.
Welcome,
I,
hear
a
couple
of
recurring
themes
throughout,
don't
be
afraid
to
call
911
right.
The
other
recurring
theme
I
hear
is
get
to
know
your
neighbors,
because
in
any
kind
of
safety
prevention
we
need
to
know
our
neighbors.
That's
a
tower
block
later
programs
about
it's
about
connecting
our
neighbors.
It's
about
gathering
them
getting
them
to
get
to
understand
their
patterns.
B
Getting
getting
to
be
able
to
lean
on
each
other
and
boy
am
I,
happy
I'm
here
tonight
and
seeing
so
many
familiar
faces,
and
so
many
block
leaders
can
I.
Have
you
raise
your
hands?
Please
yay,
okay,
the
block
leader
program,
I'm
going
to
say,
try
and
sum
it
up
in
about
three
minutes.
That's
hard
to
do
the
block
leader
program
started
shortly
after
911.
It
was
right
after
a
town
meeting
in
which
our
residents
came
forward
and
they
said
gee
city
of
Cupertino.
B
A
B
A
block
leader
is
somebody
who
volunteers
to
gather
their
neighbors
for
crime
prevention,
as
you
know,
preparedness
and
to
help
increase
communication
in
their
neighborhood,
and
this
can
be
done
in
a
number
of
ways.
What
we
do
is
we
partner
with
our
block
leaders
and
we
let
them
know
about
any
city
goings
on
maybe
there's
a
pilot
program.
B
That's
going
to
be
released,
maybe
there's
something
pertinent
to
their
neighborhood,
something
that
is
just
related
to
that
specific
area
we
like
to
let
our
block
leaders
know
what's
going
on
because
in
turn
they
can
spread
the
news
to
their
neighbors
and
if
there's
something
in
the
neighborhood
that
that
they
think
we
should
know
about,
I
usually
get
those
messages
as
well.
So
we
talk
about
linking
each
other.
B
We
obviously
helped
to
build
community
in
the
neighborhoods
and
it's
just
been
a
wonderful
thing
over
the
years
time
and
time
again,
I
here
for
from
our
new
block
leaders
that
they
don't
know
people
their
neighbors,
don't
know
people
two
doors
down,
they've
been
living
in
the
neighborhood
for
15-plus
years,
not
in
common
in
in
our
society
today,
and
so
what
our
leaders
do
is
they
volunteer
to
gather
their
neighbors
in
any
number
of
ways?
And
this
could
be
for
social
reasons
like
a
block
party,
it
could
be
for
serious
reasons
in
crime
prevention.
B
It
could
be
working
on
a
common
concern.
It
could
be
in
any
number
of
ways
what
we
want
to
do
with
the
city
is
we
want
to
get
people
together.
We
want
them
to
work
things
out,
and
so
that's
the
nutshell
on
the
block
leader
program.
We
meet
here
typically
in
this
room,
but
now
Steph
and
I
are
located
at
the
Senior,
Center
and
so
we'd
be
making
use
of
the
of
Quinlan,
and
we
gather
about
three
times
a
year
to
to
talk
about
any
number
of
topics.
B
We
we
talk
about
city
departments,
one
of
our
last
meetings
invited
our
Public
Works
crew.
To
talk
about
you
know.
What's
going
on
in
the
streets
maintenance
wise,
we
have
code
enforcement
come
out.
We
talked
about
how
to
communicate
inner
culturally
there
just
a
variety
of
subjects,
so
we'd
love
to
be
able
to
see
you.
B
Let's
see.
Ok,
now
I'm
going
to
talk
about
party
programs,
and
the
important
thing
to
know
is
that
block
parties
are
free
in
cupertino
and
really
you
read
and
Cupertino
I
mean
I.
Tell
you
we
the
reason
it's
Ria's,
the
city
provides
the
insurance
liability
insurance
to
safely
block
your
street,
provided
it's
a
street
that
can
be
blocked
off
sensibly,
and
so
we
use
the
help
of
our
Public
Works
crew
to
to
block
it
to
map
it
out
to
work
with
our
insurance.
B
If
you
want
to
have
a
fire
rig
out
there,
if
you
want
to
have
sheriff's
units
out
there,
if
you
want
to
have
an
ambulance
service
out
there
or
rec
leaders
and
an
ambulance
and
fire
and
sheriff's,
that's
just
for
shale.
It's
not
like
you
know
emergency,
hopefully
not,
but
we
do.
What
our
ambulance
service
has
done
is
they've
then
stretch
your
rides
for
the
kids,
which
is
always
kind
of
fun,
and,
and
so
we
have
all
kinds
of
activities.
B
We
can
also
bring
out
demos
for
on
energy
savings
and
also
demos
on
preparedness
as
well.
It's
free
it's
online,
go
ahead
and
apply.
You
can
see
some
of
the
details
as
well
and
I
think
that's
it.
I
wanted
to
just
jump
really
quickly
again.
My
name
is
Laura
I've
been
working
with
the
city
for
over
24
years.
This
is
my
community
we'd
love
to
be
able
to
have
you
as
out
as
block
leaders.
So
thank
you
for
coming.
