From YouTube: Dearborn Heights Study Session 3/12/19
Description
3/12/2019 - Dearborn Heights, MI
Study Session taking place Tuesday, March 12th 2019.
A
Good
evening,
the
first
and
foremost
I
want
to
say
thank
you
very
much
for
allowing
me
to
speak
tonight,
I'm
here
today,
because
I
was
generously
invited
by
mrs.
Maxwell
to
come,
speak
to
you
about
potentially
being
the
next
consultant
on
the
future
of
Warren
Valley
Golf
Course.
Just
a
brief
background.
I
don't
know,
I
believe
I
gave
you
all
some
background
career
background
of
mine.
I,
just
wanna,
make
sure
that
you
all
have
a
kitchen
like
this.
Okay.
A
Just
a
brief
background
on
my
career,
I
have
been
a
golf
professional
for
21
years
and
through
that
21
years
I
have
been
a
head
golf
professional
at
three
predominant
facilities.
I
started
off
in
Prescott
Arizona.
At
how
sample
golf
club,
then
I
went
to
Birmingham
Country
Club
in
Birmingham,
Michigan
and
now
I'm.
Currently,
the
head
golf
professional
at
Egypt,
Valley
Country
Club
in
Ada
Michigan,
which
is
adjacent
to
Grand
Rapids.
A
I
was
born
and
raised
in
Allen,
Park,
Michigan
and
I
went
to
high
school
in
Allen,
Park
and
I
went
to
college
at
Henry
Ford
Community
College,
where
I
played
golf
at
both
of
those
facility
or
at
both
of
those
schools.
I
was
fortunate
to
have
a
very
dear
friend
of
mine,
work
at
Warren
Valley
through
my
high
school
in
college
days,
so
I
have
to
say
that
I
have
played
numerous
numerous
rounds
of
golf
there.
So
I
can
honestly
say
that
I
actually
learned
the
game
of
golf
at
Warren
Valley.
A
So
when
hearing
from
my
friends
and
even
family
from
Dearborn
Heights
that
the
city
did
by
Warren,
Valley
I
knew
that
there
was
an
opportunity
to
possibly
help
knowing
that
the
county
had
it
and
the
struggles
that
they
possibly
have
had
I
went
ahead
and
said
you
know
what
can
I
do
to
help
so
I
took
it
upon
myself
to
this
past.
January
I
was
able
to
get
a
tour
of
the
facility.
A
A
The
first
I
would
work
with
all
of
you,
the
the
council,
and
establish
what
kind
of
culture
we
want
Warren
Valley
to
have.
We
want
to
know
what
we
want
to
be,
who
we
want
to
be,
and
who
do
we
want
to
target
so
again,
we
we
have
to
establish
that
culture.
We
will
also
establish
a
brand.
What
kind
of
brand
we
are
along
with
that
brand
is
gonna,
be
a
logo
with
having
a
new
owner
as
Dearborn
Heights.
Why
not
have
a
new
logo?
A
logo,
obviously
is
a
significant
part
of
the
brand.
A
We
will
also
work
very
hard
on
establishing
a
budget
and
the
market
on
how
we're
going
to
advertise
to
our
new
brand,
who
are
we
gonna
advertise
to,
and
how
much
are
we
going
to
spend
on
that
with
counsel
as
well?
Our
biggest
goal
that
we're
going
to
have
is
that
we're
going
to
be
able
to
set
up
a
five-year
master
plan
on
how
we're
going
to
prioritize
all
of
our
capital
expenditures?
A
Next
I
will
study
and
interview
all
of
Warren
Valley's
competition
in
the
business
that
I
have
I
am
able
to
obviously
talk
with
my
peers
at
fellow
golf
professionals
and
be
able
to
find
out
what
that,
what
things
they
are
doing
that
are
successful
and
what
are
not
not
successful
so,
and
they
are
very
upfront
on
being
able
to
talk
about
these
things.
So
I
can
talk
to
the
competition
in
this
area.
Area
clubs
in
interest
would
be
probably
Taylor
Meadows
likes
of
Taylor.
A
We
got
pheasant
run
in
Canton,
so
again
those
those
are
the
clubs
that
I
would
be
targeting.
I
would
also
interview
current
and
past
customers
to
see
how
Warren
Valley
is
viewed
in
their
eyes.
I
would
also
be
able
to
ask
them
what
are
what
is
Warren
Valley
doing
right?
What
is
warren
valley
doing
wrong,
and
what
would
they
like
to
see
in
the
future?
I
would
work
with
the
management
team
and
establishing
memberships
I
believe
that
this
is
going
to
be
very
important
for
the
success
of
Warren
Valley
to
be
able
to
produce
memberships.
A
Why
is
this
going
to
be
important,
because
I
feel
that
if
you
were
able
to
be
able
to
set
a
feed
for
an
initiation
fee
to
become
a
member
of
Warren
Valley
because
of
this
culture
and
this
brand
that
we
that
we
introduce
we're
able
to
give
these
these
members,
obviously
complimentary
green
fees
and
cart
fees
with
this
upfront
money?
We're
able
to
give
them
benefits
on
merchandise
daily?
A
Excuse
me
on
merchandise,
discounts,
league
fees,
food
and
beverage
and
other
opportunities
for
saving
money
at
the
club.
Why
not
be
able
to
give
significant
perks
to
Dearborn
Heights
residents?
How
can
we
go
ahead
and
bring
the
residents
involved
and
make
making
it
better
for
them
to
come
to
Warren
Valley
hire
the
right
people
to
carry
out
this
new
culture.
A
I,
don't
know
how
the
current
management
company
I
know
it
is
run
by
a
management
company
I,
don't
know
what
we're
able
to
do,
but
I
believe
that
we
have
to
have
the
right
people
in
place.
I
would
be
able
to
instruct
management
employees
on
the
hospitality
which
they
will
be
presenting
each
and
every
day.
A
Policies
and
procedures
will
be
established
in
all
departments.
We
will
develop
ways
that
we
can.
We
can
be
a
year-round
facility.
Most
golf
facilities
believe
that
once
the
snow
flies
that
we
shut
the
doors
and
we
do
not
operate
well
with
Warren
Valley
and
the
facility
that
they
do
have.
Why
can
we
not
have
more
golf
play,
obviously
with
simulators
food
and
beverage
having
NCAA
NFL
games,
things
like
that
in
the
bar
areas,
and
why
can
we
not
have
more
weddings
and
obviously
more
activities,
especially
during
holiday
time?
A
One
of
the
most
important
things
that
we
would
be
targeting
is
basically
the
bread
and
butter
of
Warren
Valley,
and
that's
your
golf
course
I
believe
that
I
have
one
of
the
greatest
superintendents
in
my
back
pocket.
His
name
is
Jeff
Holmes
and
if
you
look
at
my
my
background
sheet,
you'll
see
that
Jeff
Holmes
is
a
dear
friend
of
mine,
and
he
is
has
agreed
that
if
this
does
happen,
he
would
be
more
than
happy
to
provide
his
services.
He
would
obviously
oversee
the
operations
and
the
conditions
of
Warren
Valley.
A
Here
he
will
be
able
to
educate
you
all
on
what
we
will
need
to
be
done
over
the
five-year
master
plan
he
will
be
able
to.
He
will
be
able
to
look
over
irrigation,
turf
conditions,
equipment
conditions
and
all
that
that
is
needed
to
make
sure
that
we
have
the
finest
golf
course
that
you
can
possibly
have.
A
Last
but
not
least,
I
will
have
a
partner
of
mine.
His
name
is
Rob
Cardenas,
who
has
managed
many
fine
restaurants
in
the
area
and
he
would
be
control
of
the
food
and
beverage
department.
I
have
talked
to
many
people
that
have
dined
and
have
had
activities
at
your
current
restaurant
at
Warren
Valley,
and
they
are
not
very
impressed
with
this
and
I
think
that
this
would
be
a
major
area
that
we
need
to
improve
to
an
obviously
increased
revenue.
A
Do
all
want
you
to
know
that,
in
closing
that
you
all
have
a
very
good
product
that
is
sitting
out
at
Warren
Valley.
The
biggest
thing
is
that
we're
starting,
you
are,
you
are
all
starting
fresh
and
you
have
a
designers
name
of
Donald
Ross
that
is
so
significant
in
the
area
and
that,
if
any
golf,
professional
or
if
you
do
have
a
product
saying
that
I'm
playing
a
Donald
Ross
design,
that
is
something
that's
very
special.
A
The
thing
is:
is
that
I
believe
that
Warren
Valley
can
be
so
big,
because
I
think
that
you
all
have
an
advantage
over
any
other
golf
course.
That's
in
the
area.
You
we
all,
you
all,
have
36
holes.
Nobody
else
has
36
holes.
What
can
you
do
with
36
holes?
You
can
have
memberships
where
members
are
able
to
play
and
also
have
outings
you're
able
to
then
have
outings
that
are
going
to
be
bigger
than
any
one
else
has
the
outings.
A
If
we
can
get
outings
that
are
going
to
be
two
three
four
hundred
people
there's
no
other
place
that
they
can
go
to,
but
Warren
Valley.
How
can
we
get
these
corporate
events
to
this
golf
course?
That's
what
we
need
to
do-
and
this
is
where
we're
gonna
have
to
be
able
to
have
good
course,
conditions,
good,
good
food,
good
service
and
believe
me,
they
will
come
so
in
closing,
like
I,
said,
I
appreciate
all
of
your
time.
A
B
B
Greatly
confused,
we
met
last
Wednesday
I
thought
we
didn't
want
to
take
a
vote,
but
we
did
not
want
to
consultant
number
one
number
two
is:
the
administration
of
this
golf
course
is
coming
through
my
office,
not
the
console,
you
need
to
know
the
separation
of
powers
and
the
fact
that
the
matter
is
have
been
nice.
If
you
came
in
and
talked
to
me,
I'd
stop
looking
for
a
consultant
after
the
discussion
at
last,
Wednesday
was
I
mistaken
of
my
understanding
or
not.
B
The
other
thing
is
a
lot
of
stuff
you
talked
about
is
not
a
possibility
because
we,
as
we
were
assigned
an
operator
that
was
already
contractually
arranged
through
Wayne
County,
so
you
cannot
go
over
there
and
start
managing
inventory
and
other
things.
That
is
the
inada
agreement
that
the
city
thing,
so
it
would
have
been
nice.
If
you
came
in
and
talked
to
me,
I
thought
we
were
gonna,
be
talking
about
something
else,
kind
of
insulting.
On
a
large
extent,
I
think
you
should
have
came
in
a
talk
to
be
first.
B
D
E
Councilwoman
Hicks
clay.
You
know
I
want
to
thank
you
for
coming
by
the
way.
I
thought.
Your
presentation,
though
brief,
was
very
good.
You
covered
a
lot
of
really
great
points.
I
understand
mr.
mayor,
what
you're
saying
because
there's
some
direction.
However,
I
also
recall
that
the
council
body
asked
for
three
one,
two
three,
so
there's
one
that
you
brought
respectfully.
We
have
this
gentleman.
We
also
have
the
person
who's
already
there
all
night
you're
right.
There
is
a
contract
there,
but
I
think
this
was
a
good
presentation.
E
I
think
we
need
to
be
open
to
hearing
this
conversation
and
having
it.
So
thank
you
for
that.
That's
all
I
wanted
to
say,
because
I,
don't
I
kind
of
feel
like
this
man
was
just
kind
of
you
know
test
eyes
a
little
bit
and
I'll
do
respect.
Sir.
That's
not
I
apologize
for
that.
That
should
not
be
the
case.
E
F
Obviously,
the
inner
workings
of
the
cities
gotta
be
worked
out.
So
that's
a
separate
situation,
but
in
terms
of
yourself
I've
been
pretty
impressed
with
a
lot
of
things
that
you
had
to
say,
I
kind
of
like
your
vision.
If
I
did
have
a
couple
of
questions
number
one
have
you
ever
like
managed
a
total
golf
course
from
a
disease
like
where
you
had
top
honcho
at
a
particular
course
I.
A
Am
NOT
a
general
manager
again
I
am
a
golf
professional
where
I
socialize
in
golf
okay.
But
that's
why
I
was
specific
in
bringing
in
the
two
others
that
are
professionals
in
those
apartments
where
I
was
able
to
say
I'm,
giving
you
the
best
that
there
is
Jeff,
Holmes
and
Rob
Cardenas
with
obviously
agronomic
and
obviously
food
and
beverage,
because
one.
F
Of
the
focuses
one
of
the
focus
in
this
particular
golf
course
as
far
as
the
city
is
concerned,
at
least
I
could
speak
on
my
behalf
is
we
purchased
it
at
an
unbelievable
price,
which
is
great
and
it
hasn't
been
run
that
successfully
and
we
had
a
little
bit
of
a
meeting
intro
about
a
week
or
so
back
then,
and
he
feels
you
know
other
reasons.
It's
why
I
haven't
been
run
that
well,
but
all
I
look
at
is
the
end
result
and
result
is.
F
It
has
not
been
a
successful
golf
course,
but
I
think
the
potential
is
so
much
there.
It's
not
even
funny,
because
the
beautiful
golf
course
there
are
some
things.
There
are
challenges,
but
I
think
they
could
definitely
be
worked
on
if
somebody
focused
on
it
the
right
way,
but
that's
one
of
the
concerns
that
I
want
to
ask
you
about
the
other
thing.
I
want
to
ask
you
about
I'm,
not
a
golfer
personally
saw
just
for
full
disclosure.
Jeff
Holmes,
you
mentioned,
he's
a
superintendent.
What
exactly
man
orders.
A
F
I
do
like
the
fact
that
you
did
have
good
experience
in
a
36
hole.
Golf
course,
which
is,
as
you
mentioned,
that
is
I
love
marketing,
so
I
love
the
fact
that
you
picked
on
something:
that's
are
a
job
which
is
and
again
as
a
I.
Don't
know
that,
let's
get
that,
he
pointed
it
out.
That's
a
gem
that
being
a
36-hole
golf
course
now
advantageous
that,
if
now
you
can
take
advantage
of
that
in
terms
of
marketing.
It's
good
in
the
fact
that
you
also
golf
there.
Yes,.
F
A
D
D
D
What
I'm
saying
about
the
whole
deal,
and
the
other
thing
is
that
if
you're
gonna
do
any
consulting
I'm,
hoping
that
you
would
come
up
with
a
figure
of
consulting
and
a
timeline
of
what
it
would
take
to
to
go
through,
this
I
mean
we're
getting
real
late
here.
Golf
is
right.
Around
the
corner,
I
mean
people
start
golfing
in
April
mm-hmm
when
the
weather
starts
breaking,
so
so
that
much
that
we're
gonna
need
that,
if
that's
the
case
so
but
I
apologize.
D
B
I
think,
procedurally,
you
should
have
introduced
me
to
him.
You
should
then
have
come
in.
We
would
have
explained
to
you.
Had
you
meet
our
current
operator
or
not,
and
I
was
looking
for
three
people
and
I
felt.
B
So
I
had
asked
the
attorney
to
be
here
and
if
I
was
wrong,
but
to
have
him
see
if
he
could
adjust
the
agreements
that
would
give
or
not
a
certain
amount
of
time
in
return
for
them,
investing
in
the
simulation
and
other
things.
Now,
if
I
was
wrong,
but
that's
what
I
thought
and
he
asked
Gary
to
attend
tonight,
because
I
thought
that's
what
it
was.
I
had
no
idea.
Your
point.
D
G
C
C
Well,
thank
you
for
coming
out
spending
your
time
here
with
us
tonight
and
I.
Don't
think
we
should
discourage
any
kind
of
input
because
I
know
I
never
run
a
golf
course.
No
one
on
this
council
is
run
a
golf
course.
No
one
in
the
administration
has
run
a
golf
course,
and
it's
been
said
before
by
the
administration
that
they
don't
know
anything
about
golf
courses
so
to
get
any
kind
of
input,
regardless
of
what
it
is,
is
beneficial
to
us.
We
appreciate
you
being
here
now,
like
we've,
never
heard
of
anybody
mentioning
the
branding.
C
No,
that's
really
important.
I
have
a
fan,
an
advertising
business
and
that's
where
they
branding
brandy
brandy.
They
stress
it
all
the
time
a
master
plan
I
mean
I've,
never
heard
master
plan.
You
brought
that
to
our
attention.
No
one's
ever
mentioned
that
before
I've
never
seen
that
and
the
Donald
Ross
to
build
on
that
Donald
Ross
image,
that's
outstanding,
no
one's
ever
mentioned
net.
We
knew
about
it,
but
no
one
said
we
know.
What's
what
we
gotta
do
and
I'm
gonna
apologize.
If
you
got
the
wrong
idea,
you
did
not
ask
to
come
here.
C
B
A
Now
we
have
400
410
420.
All
of
our
events
are
sold
out.
There
filled
things
like
that.
Just
because
we
bring
things
are
bringing
new
things
to
the
to
the
to
the
to
the
club.
But,
more
importantly,
it's
about
service
service
service
service
I
mean
because,
like
I
said,
you're
you're,
not
you're
good.
You
gotta
bring
the
people
back.
So
how
are
we
gonna?
Do
that
and
that's
majority
service?
And
obviously
you
have
to
have
a
good
product,
which
obviously
is
your
golf
course.
So
that's
those
are
gonna,
be
the
two
more.
A
F
Baseman
Abdullah
Mike
type
of
at
least
idea,
not
to
put
you
on
the
spot,
but
with
the
last
presenter
he
gave
us
an
idea
as
to
how
many
hours
you
would
need
to
put
in
per
week
and
how
much
his
general
pay
scale
would
be.
Not
that
that's
the
ending
factor,
because
we're
advocate
things.
It
doesn't
matter
for
pay
this
much
as
long
as
you
make
us
this
much
so
that
that's
all
fine,
but
they
think
it
was
a
perspective
and
they
have
something
to
be
able
to
compare
to
and
I
mr.
F
B
F
F
And
it's
a
beautiful
golf
course:
it's
it's
definitely
not
where
it
needs
to
be
it
definitely
some.
You
know
good
eyes
on
it
and
someone
with
the
vision,
some
of
the
good
marketing,
but
the
bones
are
there
I
mean
their
properties
are
great
properties,
even
though
something
that
needs
a
lot
of
work
or
has
a
lot
of
potential
I
see?
Is
the
hall
there.
F
F
There
was
some
concerns
that
were
discussed
and
that
was
were
you
know.
The
golf
course
was
to
be
developed
was
gonna
be
sold,
it
was
not
gonna,
be
sold,
etcetera,
etcetera.
So
a
lot
of
people
pulled
back
from
having
events
there
that's
understand,
but
now
that
we
have
it
we
own
it.
We
are
going
to
be
running
it
as
a
golf
course.
As
a
successful
golf
course.
We
need
all
the
resources
that
we
put
in.
That
College
has
that
potential
just.
A
A
F
D
G
F
I,
just
like
I
know,
I
think
we
said
this
last
time.
I
just
want
to
clarify
this
for
the
audience.
It's
said,
nobody
gets
the
wrong
ideas.
Having
a
consultant
is
not
the
next
step
to
have
the
golf
course
open.
The
golf
course
is
open,
we'll
be
open
and
we'll
be
running
in
a
current
management
team.
Is
there
and
and
we'll
have
it
up
and
running
so
I
don't
want
to
I.
Don't
everybody
look
the
idea,
because
we're
waiting
on
either
a
possibility
of
another
consultant
or
hiring
a
consultant
for
that
matter.
F
G
B
F
E
Woman
Hicks
claimed
I
was
gonna,
say
June.
You
don't
want
to
put
the
cart
before
the
horse.
We
need
to
get
through
the
consultant
piece
first
and
then
they
would
advise
oneida
there
on
how
to
move
forward,
including
this
assimilators.
So,
therefore
we
need
to
work
through
this
piece.
First,
the
council
body
did
ask
for
three.
You
can
do
as
many
as
you
like
I,
do
a
great
communication
right
have
a
study
session.
E
D
G
D
An
agreement
there
already
an
agreement
on
that
part
as
far
as,
if
do
they
want
to
invest
in
it,
so
that
part
should
be
a
wash
I
mean.
This
is
just
a
consulting
on
other
things
on
the
greens,
the
property
upkeep.
What
to
do
with
the
with
the
banquet
facilities.
So
I
don't
see
a
problem
here
at
all.
Okay,
if
even
discussing
with
oneida
about
the
golf
simulators
and
situations
like
that,
it's
just
consulting
on
the
whole
area,
I
don't
see
the
conflict
there.
F
Just
want
to
point
out,
though,
I
mean
for
Mike
and
the
residents
when
we
did
meet
with
Mike.
It
wasn't
a
meeting
just
to
just
looking
over
everything.
I
guess:
Fiona
call
it
I'm
talking
about
with
Mike
with
Eric
I,
for
one
would
like
to
say
publicly
honestly
I
had
a
lot
of
reservations
and
I'm,
just
bananas
about
him
and
I
told
him
directly.
F
I
think
if
we
allowed
them
and
gave
him
a
chance,
maybe
working
with
you,
maybe
on
his
own,
maybe
with
a
possible
gentleman.
The
mayor
of
bra
I'm,
not
sure
but
I,
do
see.
I
do
want
to
compliment
them
and
there
he
had
a
lot
of
good
ideas
that
he
would
like
to
implement
that
it
can
take
the
golf
course
to
the
next
next
level
and
I
still
have
confidence
in
Eric.
Well,.
G
E
Is
really
quick,
I
agree
with
everything
you
just
said
by
the
way
cuz,
it's
like
building
a
partnership
where
you're
gonna,
you
know
the
impact
is
greater
when
you
work
together,
you
accomplish
more
so
fully
agree
with
both
of
you
on
that
statement.
My
question
is
because
I'm
thinking
of
Parks
and
Recreation,
because
the
golf
course,
even
though
again,
like
you,
said
councilman,
we
don't
have
that
expertise.
E
So
therefore,
that's
why
we
need
the
consultant
and
this,
but
I
also
it
drew
my
attention
to
you
mentioned
five-year
plan,
which
is
very
good.
We
talked
about
that.
However.
I
want
to
draw
our
attention
to
the
city
of
Dearborn,
Heights
parks
on
Recreation
five-year
plan
and
I
believe
it
should
been
up
for
review
it.
Correct
me
if
I'm
correct
or
wrong
2018.
E
Where
are
we
with
that
cuz?
That
should
be
part
of
this
okay.
Thank
you
because
I
know
that
should
be
intertwined
right,
because
that
recreation
plan
has
to
be
reviewed
and
updated
if
necessary,
and
that
should
be
included
and
updated,
because
that
does
impact
us
getting
grants
by
the
way.
So
I
just
want
a
clarification.
Thank
you
and.
G
C
Don't
make
one
say,
but
I
don't
know
how
this
series
are.
This
segment
of
our
meetings
is
aired,
but
I
want
to
let
everyone
know
that
the
Warren
Valley
Golf
Course
banquet
facilities
are
open
currently
and
anyone
playing
a
wedding,
graduation
party,
any
kind
of
parties
contact,
Warren
Valley
and
the
golf
course
will
be-
opens
a
seasonally
very
soon.
H
I
H
I
I
Other
gentlemen,
mr.
dueling
I
believe
essentially
had
some
proposal
in
terms
of
what
he
would
envision
and
most
the
time
when
I
prepare
an
agreement
for
any
sort
of
consultant
or
other
professional.
We
normally
incorporate
that,
so
we
have
some
sort
of
a
sense
of
deliverables,
so
my
suggestion
would
be
that
we
have
the
same
sort
of
things
from
all
possible
consultants.
I
agree.
Okay,.
