Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this meeting was postponed and now we will have our annual joint meeting virtually. Last year, we met with the city council and discussed our Bridging the Gap initiative and made some suggestions that were approved by the Mayor and City Council. This meeting is will discuss the progress that has been made on last year's recommendations and new recommendations to Mayor and City Council as we continue to Bridging the Gap towards a more equitable and just community. Judge for this is a joint meeting generally speaking between the the Commission in the City, Council and I. Think that everybody ought to know that our all of our opening work is going to be between the the council staff and the civil and human rights commission and, like we did even an open meeting. Hello, if you can hear me, this is Josh Boulevard director of the Duvall Point science Commission. We do apologize for the delay. Right, Thank, You Cameron and welcome everybody, not only the public but members of the Commission, and also the City Council I, just like everybody to know that you know for years, we've had a lot of meetings and a lot of progress has been made. We've had panels, we've had community conversations, we've gone out, we've done a strategic plan, we've looked at lots of different things, involving issues like safety and justice and opportunity here in Des, Moines, but I.

Remember when our new and in Joshua view you're, okay with me, calling you our new civil and human rights director when he started here a few years ago, he and I thought a lot about how do we we changed? It we've been having a lot of discussions. We entered he and I attended almost two years of meetings where we had discuss and more discussions and I think that the two of us walked away.

Finally and said we got to get beyond discussions, we got to move to action in solutions, and so we in meaningful outcomes, and so I want to thank the Des Moines as civil and human rights commission, who is trying something different, and we have community dialogues on issues of safety and justice and opportunity, and we gave the community a voice and have meetings all across town and putting forth ideas and solutions to address community concerns and ideas and dreams. And we had all of those around the city and mr.

director I think we had probably over 20 to 25 of those in last year in February. After revealing the top concerns in the community. Through the bridging the gap initiative, the Commission put forth a number of ideas and recommendations and percent to myself as mayor in the city council and our city, administration and manager, and as mayor I gave the directed to the city administration to begin working on a number of those. It might.
