A
I'm
here
at
the
permit
and
development
center
located
at
60
to
robert
dr
a
drive,
and
this
is
the
central
hub
for
all
building
activities
for
the
City
of
Des
Moines.
If
you're
thinking
of
making
some
additions
to
your
home
or
property
that
you
own,
let
the
permit
and
development
center
be
your
first
step
here
to
walk
us
through
the
process
is
city
building
inspector
john
Herzog
John,
thanks
for
joining
you're
welcome,
who
needs
to
obtain
a
permit
in
the
City
of
Des
Moines
and
what
are
the
costs
associated
with
that?
Everyone.
B
Needs
to
obtain
a
building
permit
class
will
vary
anywhere
from
fifty
dollars
on
up
depend
upon
the
project.
They're
doing
you
take
a
24
x,
24
garage,
for
example,
and
that's
going
to
have
a
square
footage
valuation
to
it,
so
the
cost
of
that
will
be
a
little
higher
than
like
a
deck
permit
for
a
10
by
10
or
deck.
So
fifty
dollars
on
minimal
fifty
dollars.
So.
A
B
We
always
like
to
see
obviously
we'd
like
to
have
an
address
from
that
point
in
any
plans
that
they
have
any
drawings
that
they
have
would
be
very
helpful.
It's
always
good
to
have
that
kind
of
thing
handy.
We
we
also
here
can
punch
out,
on
our
field
view
machine
a
drawing
of
what
that
looks
like
and
what
their
property
looks
like,
and
we
can
place
whatever
they're
doing.
If
it's
a
shed
or
garage,
we
can
place
that
on
that
site
for
them
and
that
we
can
draw
off
of
that
from
there.
A
B
B
You
can
call
back
here
at
any
time
our
number
2,
830,
4200
and
and
then
from
that
point,
the
permit
card
that
you
get
will
also
have
the
inspectors
name
on
it
and
his
phone
number
and
you
can
get
ahold
of
him
at
any
time
also,
and
he
can
come
out
and
do
his
inspections
with
you
dependent
on
the
project
will
will
walk
you
through
the
stages
of
the
inspections.
Also
great
okay,.
B
We
on
safety,
we
also
have
easement
engineers
and
they
will
look
up
if
there's
any
easements
on
your
property.
We'll
also
look
up.
Zoning
is
also
in
this
in
this
building
and
they
can
look
up
if
there's
any
setbacks
that
could
occur
and
cause
a
problem
with
this,
but
the
audition
you're
looking
to
do
or
the
project
you're
looking
to
do
so.
You
know,
building
being
here,
we
can
review
plans.
Engineering
can
look
at
your
easements
and
then
the
zoning
can
look
at
any
setbacks
that
you
have
now.
B
Smaller
projects
for
the
do-it-yourselfer
or
the
you
know,
homeowners
they
pretty
much.
We
can
issue
that
right
on
the
spot.
You
know
15
20
minutes
half
hour
depending
upon
what
the
project
is,
how
much
we
have
to
review
that
permit
can
be
obtained
right
on
the
spot
here.
If
it's
something
that
has
to
be
brought
in
I
mean
we
may
have
to
do
a
review
on
it
that
might
take
possibly
up
to
three
days
depend
upon
what
other
information
we
okay.
A
Sounds
like
a
good
deal.
Well,
you've
heard
it
here.
First
spring
is
soon
coming
and
you
better
stop
at
the
permanent
development
center
for
any
and
all
of
your
additions
to
your
upcoming
home.
Thank
you
very
much.
John
I
appreciate
I'm
at
the
ninth
street
ymca
in
downtown
Des
Moines.
It's
one
of
three
locations
as
the
City
of
Des
Moines
housing
department,
is
using
to
fight
back
against
homelessness
here
to
shed
some
light
on.
This
information
is
housing
director,
Doug,
roaming,
Doug
thanks.
C
Shekinah
yeah,
the
City
of
Des
Moines
housing
department,
is
partnering
with
three
organizations
in
the
community.
One
of
them
is
the
YMCA.
We
have
provided
rental
assistance
to
12
efficiency,
apartments
that
have
a
homeless
preference,
so
individuals
that
are
low
income
eligible,
but
our
homeless
get
a
preference
for
these
units
versus
the
regular,
low-income
population
that
we
serve
generally.
We
also
have
38
efficiency
apartments
with
the
new
central
Iowa,
shelter
and
services,
and
then
we
also
partner
with
the
YMCA
here
and
anawim
housing
with
their
shelter
plus
program,
shelter,
plus
care
programs.
C
Shelter
plus
care,
is
a
program
that
provides
supportive
services
and
housing
to
chronically
homeless
individuals
with
mental
or
physical
disabilities.
So
individuals
that
are
in
that
program
that
have
been
there
three
years
and
have
successfully
completed
the
case
management
their
tenants
requirements
as
far
as
keeping
their
unit
clean,
paying
their
rent
on
time.
They
can
get
a
preference
then
to
move
into
our
program
and
free
up
those
shelter
plus
care
opportunities
for
chronic
homeless
individuals.
The
third
program.
Actually,
we
do
also
offer
a
Veteran
Affairs,
supportive
housing
program.
