Description
The City of Des Moines Strategic Plan 2015--2020--2031, or GuideDSM, clearly communicates Mayor and City Council priorities to Des Moines’ residents and businesses. https://guidedsm.dmgov.org/
A
The
Des
Moines
City,
Council
and
I
have
developed
a
strategic
plan
to
guide
the
city's
growth
and
development
over
the
next
15
years.
This
plan
is
like
a
blueprint
or
a
roadmap
for
making
Des
Moines
a
better
place
for
all
residents.
In
fact,
we
call
our
plan
guide
DSM.
The
plan
establishes
outcomes
for
strategic
leadership
and
governance
describes
what
Des
Moines
will
be
like
in
15
years.
It
defines
the
mission
of
city
government
and
States
our
core
values
guide.
Dsm.
A
Our
strategic
plan
defines
how
we
will
improve
neighborhoods,
Public
Safety
and
the
overall
quality
of
life
through
the
year
2030.
The
mission
of
Des
Moines
city
government
is
to
be
financially
strong
and
provide
exceptional
municipal
services
in
a
customer
friendly
manner
with
an
involved
community
residents
and
businesses.
A
B
Vision
for
2030
is
the
Des.
Moines
will
be
a
vibrant
capital
city,
the
pride
of
Iowa
with
great
neighborhoods
alive,
an
active
downtown
and
thriving
regional
economy.
We
are
striving
to
be
the
recognized
leader
in
community
sustainability.
Des
Moines
in
2030
will
have
abundant
opportunities
for
leisure
and
an
effective
transportation
system
connecting
the
region
in
2030
residents
and
businesses
will
continue
to
take
pride
in
the
Des
Moines
community.
There's
a
lot
of
work
for
us
to
do
to
reach
our
vision.
B
Some
of
our
objectives
include
making
Des
Moines
a
more
beautiful
city
with
attractive
corridors
parks,
underground
utilities
and
having
absolutely
no
tolerance
for
blight.
We
want
quality,
well-maintained
modernized,
housing
stock,
advanced
technology
based
manufacturing,
we'd
like
to
see
an
increase
in
the
use
of
solar,
wind,
geothermal
and
other
renewable
energy
sources
in
our
community,
and
we
are
working
on
more
regional
cooperation
and
collaboration
among
local
government
because
we
recognize
the
interdependence
of
the
Des
Moines
region.
The
council
has
set
five
goals
for
the
future.
First,
stop
financially
sound
city
city.
C
Leadership
have
set
a
high
priority
on
keeping
Des
Moines
a
financially
sound
city.
The
City
Council
is
working
to
provide
adequate
and
sufficient
funding
for
city
services
and
delivering
the
services
in
the
most
cost-effective
manner.
Our
goal
is
to
continue
to
balance
services
today,
while
investing
and
planning
for
tomorrow.
This
means
the
City
of
Des
Moines,
will
have
high
service
value
for
tax
fees,
responsible
financial
stewardship
by
the
city,
leveraging
resources
through
outside
funding
sources,
reliable
delivery
of
exceptional
city
services,
and
we
will
deliver
services
in
an
efficient,
cost-effective
manner.
D
We
want
Des
Moines
to
be
a
sustainable
community.
As
city
leaders,
we
will
collaborate
with
community
stakeholders
to
create
lasting
neighborhoods
and
commercial
centers
to
live
work
and
play.
This
means
our
city
will
have
strong
neighborhood
associations
working
in
collaboration
with
the
city,
revitalized,
neighborhood,
retail
and
commercial
areas.
We
will
upgrade
and
modernize
our
older
housing
stock
and
we
will
remove
life,
making
sure
buildings
and
homes
meet
city
codes
and
standards.
The.
E
Third
goal
is
for
the
Des
Moines
government
to
be
a
high-performing
city
organization,
providing
excellent
customer
service
through
efficient
city
processes,
exceptional
communication
and
continuous
improvement.
This
means
we'll
have
consistent
customer
friendly
city
services,
easy
access
to
services
and
information,
streamlined
city
processes
and
operations,
focus
on
the
customer,
responsive
services,
city
working
together
as
a
team
city
measuring
service
value
and
using
data
decision-making.
F
The
fourth
goal
of
the
strategic
plan
is
to
upgrade
city
infrastructure
and
buildings.
The
city
leadership
is
working
constantly
to
upgrade
city
infrastructure
and
buildings,
we're
modernizing
the
city
through
the
hands
of
transportation,
network
utilities
and
technology.
Our
objective
in
goal
number
four,
is
to
upgrade
city
street
upgrade
and
replace
bridges.
We
will
have
effective
stormwater
management
that
is
compliant
with
federal
requirements.
We
will
increase
underground
utilities,
upgrade
city
and
community
information
technology
infrastructure
and
make
it
affordable
and
faster.
F
G
Going
to
maintain
and
expand
opportunities
that
enhance
the
quality
of
life
for
all
generations.
This
means
more
quality
choices
for
your
leisure
time,
great
parks
that
are
responsive
to
the
desires
of
the
community,
recreational
programs
and
activities
for
all
more
nightlife
to
enjoy
libraries
that
are
community
resource
centers,
provide
support
for
healthy
lifestyle
and
personal
wellness
and
trails
for
leisure
and
recreation.
A
The
strategic
plan
provides
the
guiding
framework
for
decision-making
setting
five-year
goals
for
the
entire
organization,
outlining
both
policy
and
action
agendas,
shaping
the
city
budget
and
capital
improvement
plans
through
the
year
2030.
So
what
does
guide
DSN
