In the latest edition of Eat, Explore, Enjoy, we pop into The Filling Station for a tune up, but not the kind you might be thinking. Tucked behind the Gothic Theatre on Acoma Street, owners, Andy and Lisa Hawker, set out to create a place with a sense of community under the motto “live full,” where you can catch up with friends, sip on craft beer, host a holiday party and enjoy live music. Andy took his passion for cars and turned it into The Filling Station’s theme with custom tire light fixtures, gas pump beer taps, vintage road signs and a map of historic Route 66 as the bar top. #eatexploreenjoy

Hey everyone I'm jose with eat, explore and enjoy eagle wood, we're all familiar with the iconic gothic feeder on broadway. Well, I'm here today to introduce you to their hot neighbor.

No matter the season, we're always worried about gas prices, but at the end of the day we have to keep that tank full. Today we're going to show you how to do that. One of the best new places in englewood on south tacoma, the philly station.

We've created this place with the idea of creating community, we need community, we need to be around each other. We need to live full, and part of that is is to have a place where you can just get to know each other enjoy a good drink, listen to good music, whatever it is. The only way we can really live full is to be with other people. Definitely.

Know they know us, you know my first time here and I really like it. There.

Is a pretty obvious theme that we have going on here? Can you guys tell us a little bit about why you chose this theme for the filling station.

Andy's, a huge gearhead, okay.

Going in I married him anyway, you know I.

Love cars. I love racing. I love americana, all that kind of stuff I always dreamed about. Having you know the great big man cave with you know the old gas pumps and all that kind of all the stuff you see in here. I absolutely.

Love the atmosphere.

It was really lisa who said well. Do it the way you always wanted to do a man cave, let's call it the filling station and I thought that's.

I have to ask about these really cool and unique lights above us tell me tell me the story about them. I.

Actually made these myself, I got the fixtures and I got the used tires. I made a prototype had it hanging in my garage for a long time, tons.

Of open space, good acoustics, good music.

One of the reasons we chose this particular site was the gothic theater being right there and when we were, when we were doing the build out, we purposely put in a gate on the alley to the gothic theater, so that we could encourage people to come here. You know get some beers before the show go to the show that kind of thing.

Live music all the time which is super fun.

Wednesday night is our open mic night we've gathered a great community of musicians, show up on wednesdays next.

Up to the microphone is a man very near and dear.

To my own personal art, one night, we were having it out on the patio and the opening act for whoever was at the gothic. That night, like peeks over the fence he's like. Can I come over and do a couple of numbers, so that was a special treat for everybody and lisa.

That is super cool, so then you mentioned you have open mind open like night wednesdays. Do you have other events during the week that we should know about? We.

Have uh geeks who drink trivia on thursday nights, and then we have live music on fridays and saturdays.

Here the bruise number one what's fun about it is that we get what we like. I.

Personally, love how they have a lot of colorado, beers, andy's.

Kind of a savant when it comes to choosing.

Selection is so.

Huge, I mean people come and.

Say these are amazing, you know what a great selection I mean everybody's, like really cool.

Us know each other, you know just from coming here.

We strive to really love anybody who comes in the door. I would hope people would feel like that. This is a place that is kind of a public living room like the pub was meant to be.
