Before Broken Tee Golf Course, there was Mountain View Golf Course that started as a driving range in 1948. Over the years, Mountain View expanded into a golf course as well as a mini-golf course! The Englewood Civic Center now sits on the land that was previously Mountain View Golf Course, but the legacy of golf lives on as Broken Tee Golf Course celebrates its 40th Anniversary as an 18-hole golf course this July! #tbt

In this #tbt we kick it back to a time where do-it-yourself homes were prominent in the Englewood community. Residents could select the cost and style of their house to best fit their needs, and materials would be shipped directly to them! The best part is these custom houses could grow with the family, additions could be ordered and built onto these homes to provide extra rooms.
Would you order a do-it-yourself home?

Today, we continue the story of Englewood's rough and wild historical roots that led to its very first mayoral election - but it wasn't without a fight. Often referred to as the “Bowery of the West,” Englewood’s first mayoral race included voter fraud, intimidation and a filibuster that could only be ended with a mayor’s six-shooter! These were a few of the many obstacles Jacob Jones had to jump over to bring civility to Englewood and temper the influence of Englewood's colorful founding father Thomas Skerritt.
