Description
Superintendent Hardy Murphy P.h.D. and Commander Tom Guenther provide information on how to keep Evanston children save returning to and from school.
A
Hello,
I'm
dr.
hardy
murphy,
superintendent
of
schools
in
evanston
Skokie
community,
consolidated
school
district
65.
In
recent
weeks
we
have
had
incidents
of
concern
about
students,
safe
travel
to
and
from
school
we've
been
working
with
local
law
enforcement
agencies
to
ensure
that
all
of
these
incidents
are
investigated
to
the
fullest
we'd
like
to
encourage
families.
If
they
cannot
walk
away
dat
bus
stops
with
their
children,
then
ask
an
older
child
or
a
group
of
children
or
a
trusted
adult
to
be
with
their
child.
We
posted
walk
routes
from
elementary
schools
on
our
website.
A
B
I'm,
commander
Tom
Gunther
with
the
evanston
police
department.
As
dr.
Murphy
noted
in
the
past
weeks,
we
have
had
incidents
involving
strangers
and
children
at
this
time
of
year.
The
evanston
police,
in
cooperation
with
school
district
65,
would
like
to
add
a
few
safety
tips.
What
we
suggest
is
children,
when
they're
going
to
and
from
school,
especially
the
little
ones,
know
their
full
names
and
addresses
and
whatnot
so
that
they
can,
in
case
of
being
lost,
be
able
to
tell
adults
where
they
are.
B
We
encourage
them
in
these
cases
to
go
to
someone
who
is
trusted.
Approached
a
security
guard,
a
police
officer,
a
teacher
someone
to
let
them
know
that
they've
lost
their
way
home
when
going
to
and
from
school.
The
same
route
should
be
taken
to
assure
that
a
time
limit
is
placed
on
the
to
and
from
so
the
parents
know
that
their
children
should
be
arriving
when
there
is
a
deviation
in
scheduled
children
and
parents
should
always
communicate
well
so
that
they
know
they're
going
to
a
friend's
house
or
things
like
that.
B
If
they're
approached
by
a
stranger,
the
children
must
be
instructed
not
to
talk
to
strangers
or
be
lured
in
with
ploy
such
as.
Can
you
help
me
with
something
or
have
you
seen
my
puppy
or
could
you
come
with
me?
I'll
promise
you
a
dairy
queen
or
things
like
that
children
should
be
aware.
Then,
in
these
situations,
adults
are
not
their
friend
and
they
should
go
to
a
teacher
or
trusted
individual
and
report.
These
things
immediately
on
the
way
home
children
should
have
avoid
such
things
as
vacant
buildings
wooded
areas,
alleys.
