We're writing a statement today about the ncaa ghs. First, I'd like to open by saying that this is an active investigation. It is still ongoing.

Even though the school has been released and there is no active drive, we will not be taking questions at this time at 9 30 this morning, an evanston police department, school resource officer, was alerted to the possibility of individual smoking cannabis in a bathroom that evanston police school resource officer responded with eths safety staff to that bathroom, where they detained two individuals for smoking cannabis also in their initial investigation, led to the recovery of two handguns.

The investigation also showed that there were six other individuals in addition to these two that were in the bathroom at the time, four of these individuals were detained relatively quickly.

Two were not detained for some time after the discovery of the handguns, the school went on lockdown for several hours right now, the investigation indicates that all eight subjects are juvenile eths students and all believed to be involved or in the bathroom at the time of the incident.

There is no current threat to the public or other evanston schools related to this incident.

No shots were fired as part of this incident and there have been no injuries reported.

This investigation is ongoing, but the investigation indicates that this is not. I repeat, this is not related to the november 28 shooting that took place on green bay road here in evanston.

Any additional information about dismissals and information to parents will be provided by eths at this time. I'm going to turn the podium over to city manager.

I want to thank the evanston police department and the evanson township high school safety staff for their quick response, especially the evanston police department, school resource officer who arrived first on the scene today could have been tragic, but for the quick response and brave actions of our police officers and the safety personnel in eths, the evanston city council will be holding a previously scheduled special city council meeting on monday evening regarding gun violence and community outreach efforts.
