From YouTube: 2022 Memorial Day Full Program
Description
City of Inglewood hosted its 73rd Annual Memorial Day Celebration at Inglewood City Hall on Monday May 30, 2022.
A
Good
morning,
everyone
and
welcome
to
the
city
of
inglewood's
73rd
annual
memorial
day
observation.
My
name
is
jerry
blake,
I'm
the
commander
of
pfw,
pfc,
adriano,
mixer,
vfw,
post
2122
in
the
city
of
englewood,
and
I'm
overjoyed
that
we
are
able
to
come
back
together
in
person
and
honor
honored
recognized
american
service
members.
Today
we
celebrate
our
past
and
present
war
heroes.
A
A
I
would
be
remiss
if
I
did
not
say
this
is
an
honor
for
me
today
to
do
this,
and
I
like
to
also
recognize
my
lovely
wife,
rachel
blake
out
in
the
audience
and
my.
A
A
B
B
In
honor
of
the
148
military
dead
of
world
war
ii,
who
lived
in
inglewood
and
linux
erected
at
the
cost
of
six
thousand
dollars,
this
beautiful
tapering
monument
has
been
the
site
of
annual
city-wide
memorial
services.
Commemorating
the
deceased
of
all
wars
in
1951,
granite
wings
were
added
to
each
side
of
the
inspiring
16-foot
shaft
to
honor
servicemen
who
died
during
the
korean
national
emergency,
which
ended
on
january
21st
1955..
B
B
C
B
D
As
I
stand
here
today,
I'm
with
mixed
emotions,
I
should
be
very
angry
when
you
look
across
the
street
and
you
start
thinking
about
life
and
we've
had
two
killings
that
has
taken
lives
and
it
really
touches
us
all.
Nevertheless,
almighty
god
and
heavenly
father,
we
ask
that
your
blessings
be
bestowed
on
our
friends
and
loved
ones.
D
We
thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
share
with
you
this
special
occasion
to
honor
our
veterans
on
memorial
day.
Let
us
always
honor
the
memory
of
those
brave
soldiers
who
gave
the
supreme
sacrifice,
so
they
may
extreme.
We
may
extreme
freedom
in
our
country,
heavenly
father,
keep
our
family
in
your
clare,
bless
them
and
comfort
them
in
sorrow.
Let
us
be
mindful
of
life,
liberty,
justice
and
freedom
and
democracy
that
it
will
ever
be
grateful
for
our
comrades
and
friends.
Grant,
oh
god,
each
courage
trusts.
B
B
B
B
F
Good
morning,
I
have
to
tell
you
that
this
is
my
12th
memorial
day
as
a
mayor,
and
I
have
to
tell
you
they
get
better
and
better,
because
we
become
closer
and
closer
and
grow
larger
and
larger
as
a
city.
F
F
F
F
But
while
they
sleep
in
our
nation's
love,
let
us
remain
a
weak.
Wake
for
the
intern,
for
eternal
vigilance
is
the
price
of
liberty.
Thank
you
and
I
am
so
honored
to
serve
you.
Along
with
the
council.
Councilman
george
dodson,
alex
padilla
elo
morales,
dion
faulk
and
representing
the
police
department,
is
somebody
that
I
hired
when
I
was
a
deputy
chief
captain
marie
dibernardo.
Doesn't
she
look
sharp?
You
guys
thank
you.
G
What
a
treat
and
what
a
surprise
first
thing
I
want
to
do
is
say
I
honor
all
of
you
for
your
service,
I
think
about
my
father
and
brother
as
they
served
in
the
military.
G
H
Thank
you,
mayor
and-
and
you
know
I
too
just
want
to
give
thanks
and
and
appreciation
and
salute,
as
today,
memorial
day
and
every
day
we
pay
tribute,
and
we
salute
the
men
and
women
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
so
that
we
can
have
our
freedom
and
we
are
here
also
to
comfort,
the
loved
ones,
the
family
and
the
friends
of
those
that
have
made
that
sacrifice.
H
I
I
just
want
to
take
a
quick
moment
to
say
I
this
is
my
19th
memorial
day
service
here
in
the
city
of
inglewood.
I'm
very
very
happy
that
no
matter
who
shows
up
the
year
before
we
always
put
the
same
amount
of
chairs
out,
and
that's
that's
really
important,
because
this
is
a
holiday
that
if
we
don't
celebrate
it,
it
could
go
away.
I
C
Good
morning,
everyone
good
morning
so
honored
to
be
here
this
morning
with
you
all.
I
just
wanted
to
say
thank
you
for
joining
us
here
today
on
this
city
of
englewood
73rd
annual
memorial
day
service,
I'm
councilwoman
dion
faulk,
and
I
serve
the
wonderful
residents
of
district
4.,
I'm
honored
to
be
here
today
to
celebrate
the
lives
of
our
service,
men
and
women
that
fought
for
our
freedom
for
this
great
country
that
we
call
the
united
states
of
america.
C
J
A
C
F
K
F
Okay,
so
we
have
our
congresswoman
maxine
waters.
L
Hello,
everybody.
How
are
you
doing
today?
I
am
so
pleased
and
so
thankful
for
the
opportunity
to
be
here
with
you
today.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
mayor
butts.
Let
me
start
by
acknowledging
commander
jerry
blake
of
vfw
post
2122
adjacent
to
shaska
starwell
of
the
sons
of
american
legion
chappie,
james
post,
578
chaplain,
henry
brown.
L
L
So
today
the
nation
observes
memorial
day
and
it's
been
done
since
the
beginning
of
our
nation,
patriotic
men
and
women
have
stepped
forward
to
serve
in
our
military
because
they
believe
in
the
ideals
the
united
states
stands
for
peace,
liberty,
freedom
and
justice.
For
all
many
of
these
men
and
women
satisfied
and
sacrifice
their
lives
for
all
of
us
in
our
country
on
memorial
day.
L
Since
then,
memorial
day
has
been
observed
on
the
last
monday
in
may,
as
you
might
suspect,
californians
are
well
represented
among
those
brave
men
and
women
who
have
served
in
the
military.
Our
state
is
home
to
nearly
two
million
veterans
from
diverse
backgrounds,
more
than
any
other
state
in
this
country.
As
a
representative
of
the
43rd
district
of
california
in
the
united
states
congress,
I'm
forever
committed
to
the
brave
men
and
women
who
put
on
the
uniform
of
our
great
country
and
volunteered
to
protect
our
liberties
and
our
way
of
life.
L
The
residents
of
this
community
in
this
state
deserve
the
opportunity
to
say
thank
you
to
some
of
the
bravest
americans
who
have
ever
lived
and
remember
those
that
may
have
lost
to
truly
honor
the
more
than
1.1
million
americans
who
have
passed
away
in
the
line
of
duty
since
the
revolutionary
war.
We
must
do
right
by
their
brothers
and
sisters
in
arms
and
support
the
veterans
who
return
home.
L
L
We
did
not
have
a
request
for
veterans
there's,
so
many
requests
that
have
soaked
for
so
many
different
projects,
but
inglewood
has
come
to
ask
for
a
lot
of
money
and
they
asked
for
a
lot
of
money
for
a
number
of
projects.
We
were
able
to
get
3
million
for
our
downtown
business.
Revitalization
and
the
president
is
in
line
asking
for
a
lot
more
for
another
project,
we'll
talk
about
that.
L
So
this
is
why
I
have
introduced
again
in
congress,
h.r
4731,
the
veterans
service
organization,
modernization
of
2021,
which
would
provide
competitive
grants
to
veterans
service
organization,
for
repairs,
rehabilitation
of
existing
facilities
and
for
modernization
of
technologies.
L
L
We
will
forever
be
thankful
for
their
service
and
sacrifice
and
we
will
forever
mourn
along
beside
them.
Thank
you
for
inviting
me
to
join
you
all
today
in
honoring
our
fallen
soldiers.
Thank
you
to
all
of
our
military
personnel
and
families.
For
your
great
sacrifice.
God
bless
you
all.
God
bless
our
current
service
members
and
god
bless
the
united
states
of
america.
Thank
you
also,.
F
Before
I
bring
up
our
next
speaker
senator
bradford,
I
want
to
thank
the
congresswoman
for
her
help
in
securing
earmarks
for
projects
that
we
have,
and
I
want
to
thank
senator
steve
bradford,
who
has
helped
get
eight
million
dollars
for
revitalization
of
market
street,
we're
trying
to
assemble
between
the
state
and
the
federal
government,
900
million
for
the
inguinal
transit
connector.
So
these
two
representatives
have
done
so
much
for
the
city.
Can
we
give
them
a
big
hand,
and
with
that
I
want
to
bring
senator
steve
bradford.
M
It
is
truly
an
honor
to
be
here,
but,
more
importantly,
I
want
to
thank
each
and
every
one
of
you
who
have
made
this
ceremony
in
this
day
a
priority
you
could
have
easily
been
at
the
beach.
You
could
have
easily
been
out
of
barbecue,
but
you
made
being
here
important
because
it's
about
not
only
remembering
but
honoring
the
men
and
women
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice,
so
we
could
be
here
today
the
heroes
and
our
sheroes
who
ran
toward
danger
when
many
of
us
won't
even
catch
a
coal
for
this
country.
M
So
we
appreciate
them.
We
want
to
recognize
them
and
understand
that
they
will
never
be
forgotten
and,
on
behalf
of
the
35th
senate
district,
we
just
stand
in
celebration
with
the
city
of
inglewood,
the
mayor,
the
council,
the
congresswoman
and
all
the
elected
officials
here
to
say
again
thank
you
to
the
men
and
women
who
have
made
that
sacrifice.
It's
often
said
all
have
given
some,
but
some
have
given
all
and
the
day
is
about
recognizing
those
who
have
given
all
thank
you,
and
god
bless
you.
N
Thank
you,
mayor,
butts
mayor
butts
is
my
favorite
mayor
in
the
south
bay
there's,
a
small
town
mayor.
Just
a
little
sapphire
was
that
I
like
just
a
little
tad
better.
His
name
is
robert
pulley
miles.
N
N
The
sacrifice
that
allow
us
to
continue
to
enjoy
the
freedoms
that
we
enjoy
today,
not
only
on
the
soil
of
the
united
states,
but
also
abroad,
if
it
wasn't
for
your
loved
ones
and
their
dedication,
and
also
for
the
active
men
and
women
of
our
armed
forces.
We
wouldn't
be
such
a
great
nation.
We
wouldn't
be
the
greatest
nation
on
god's
green
earth,
and
for
that
I
want
to
thank
you
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
london
and
on
behalf
of
the
pulling
family.
So
congratulations
to
everyone
and
happy
memorials
day.
F
And
our
last
speaker
is
actually
my
favorite
elected
official
of
all
time
in
2010.
When
I
was
running
for
office,
I
had
been
gone
for
like
20
years
to
santa
monica
and
an
assistant
general
manager
at
the
airport,
and
when
I
ran
for
the
seat
that
was
vacated
by
former
mayor
dorne,
nobody
would
endorse
me
except
the
smartest
politician
in
the
city
of
englewood,
and
that
would
be
gloria
gray.
Chair
of
the
metropolitan
water
district
gloria.
J
J
J
I
remember,
and
I
call
her
maxine
because
she's
given
me
that
honor
to
do
that,
because
I've
known
her
for
years,
but
this
person,
your
congresswoman,
have
served
this
community,
not
only
city
ringlewood
in
her
area,
but
every
single
person
who
may
not
have
a
voice
at
the
table.
We
all
owe
her
a
great
amount
of
gratitude
for
her
continued
service,
so
maxine.
Thank
you
for
you
for
what
you
continue
to
do
every
single
day,
and
I
honor
you
also
and
the
leadership
in
this
city.
J
I
know
we're
here
to
honor
veterans,
but
it's
important
the
leadership
in
this
city.
I
am
so
proud
to
be
the
person
who
was
smart
enough
to
know
that
we
needed
james
butts
as
our
mayor.
He
has
proven
to
be
an
outstanding
mayor,
so
thank
you,
mayor,
butts
and
to
the
city
council.
All
that
you
do
and
steve
bradford
is
our
senator.
J
No
other
person
that
we
can
also
say
has
been
a
champion
for
people
in
this
city,
I've
known
steve
for
years,
and
so
we
are
lucky
to
have
these
leaders
in
our
city,
and
so
thank
you
today.
For
being
here
steve
mentioned,
we
could
have
been
out
doing
other
things,
but
it
is
an
honor
to
stand
before
you
to
recognize
and
honor
the
sacrifices
that
our
veterans,
men
and
women
have
paid
for
the
freedom
for
us.
So
god
bless
you
and
god
bless
america.
So
thank
you.
B
I
thank
you,
mr
mayor
council,
members,
city,
state
and
local
officials.
Thank
you
all
for
joining
us
here
today.
Now
we
will
hear
from
jessica,
golson
executive
director
of
the
u.s
vets
here
in
inglewood.
O
O
O
We
are
the
largest
non-profit
in
the
united
states,
serving
veterans
who
are
homeless.
We
currently
house
over
600
veterans
right
here
in
district
3
on
hendry.
We
have
comprehensive
services
to
help
our
veterans
if
they
are
experiencing
homelessness.
We
have
case
management,
services,
career
development
services
and
job
readiness
skills
so
that
they
can
come
back
into
the
to
the
world.
O
O
I
recall
a
time
when
I
was
on
the
phone
with
a
dear
friend
of
mine
who
was
stationed
in
afghanistan,
and
this
was
his
second
tour
and
we
were
on
the
phone
talking
and
having
such
a
great
time
and
suddenly.
In
the
background,
there
was
a
loud
boom
and
an
alarm
went
off
and
he
said
jessica.
O
I'm,
okay
and
damien
is
now
in
alabama,
proud
marine
with
his
family
serving
our
country
still,
but
that
day
I
truly
understood
what
it
felt
like
to
possibly
lose
someone
so
close
to
you
who
is
standing
there
in
the
absence
of
us
and
my
friend
gladly
was
willing
to
give
his
life
for
us.
So
I
will
forever
be
grateful
and
I'm
forever
grateful
that
I've
been
able
to
serve
our
city
as
the
executive
director
of
u.s
vets.
O
I
would
extend
that
to
his
fellow
man,
that
is
the
greatest
love
of
all,
and
I
will
gladly
gladly
continue
to
serve
our
honor,
our
service,
men
and
women,
because
you
have
served
us.
So
please,
don't
forget
us
down
the
street
on
henry
u.s.
Vets
is
proud
to
serve
the
city
of
englewood
and
serve
our
veterans.
Thank
you
to
the
councilwoman,
who
has
made
sure
that
we've
stayed
strong
and
thank
you
again
to
the
city
of
inglewood.
May
you
all
have
a
great
memorial
day.

It

Never
forget
the
men

who
know
all
too
much
the
cost
of
our
freedom
for
their
service
to
this
community
is
the
greatest
gift
of
all.

Q
I
stand
here
today
because
of
those
who
did
not
come
back.
My
bio
stated
many
things
that
we
have
all
achieved
and
we
achieved
them
together,
but
I
stand
here
today
on
the
shoulders
of
the
montford
point.
Marines
these
gentlemen
started
the
marine
corps
80
years
ago.
1942..
Can
I
have
mr
henry
c
johnson
stay
in
please.
Q
Q
Q
We
have
served
together
many
times
in
many
events,
I'm
a
member
of
all
of
these
organizations,
but
it's
not
about
what
I
did
it's
about,
what
those
who
did
and
did
not
come
home.
I
want
to
thank
the
city
of
englewood
for
constantly
hosting
us
veterans
allowing
us
to
participate
mayor
butts.
We
have
served
together
in
many
capacities,
city
councilmans,
senator
bradford,
we're
all
old
friends.
We
all
serve
in
the
community
together,
but
we
remember
where
we
came
from
our
veterans
that
did
not
come
home.
Q
Q
We
have
fought
some
of
the
most
bloodiest
battles
in
the
most
difficult
times,
so
the
most
argus
training,
those
things
are
what
the
veterans
have
done.
The
family
members.
I
want
to
thank
you
all
for
supporting
us
without
your
family,
your
mother,
your
father,
your
sister,
your
brother,
your
uncle,
I
wouldn't
be
here.
My
grandma
told
me
she
prayed
for
me
every
day
and
I'm
glad
she
did
because
I
came
home
and
she's
still
praying
for
me
at
104
years
of
age.
So
again,
remember
where
you
came
from
remember
what
those
did
for
us.
Q
Q
I
am
dedicated
to
making
sure
that
our
veterans
get
the
benefits
they
deserve
as
a
veteran
service
officer
as
a
citizen
as
a
veteran,
if
you
need
help,
you
ask
us
and
we'll
help
you
young
lady,
that
spoke
about
homeless,
veteran
community.
Again
she
wants
to
help
us
those
who
are
passed
before
us.
We
remember
what
they
did,
but
some
of
us
are
still
suffering.
Q
I
have
issues
you
have
issues,
we
mask
them
very
good.
Sometimes
I'm
nice,
sometimes
I'm
not.
Sometimes
I'm
sad.
Sometimes
I'm
happy.
We
all
go
through
those
emotions,
but
we
remember
what
the
veterans
did
for
us.
I
prepared
no
speech
for
this.
I'm
talking
to
you
from
my
heart.
I
see
the
audience
is
small.
Q
Q
I
told
them.
I
would
be
back
in
plenty
of
time
to
speak
to
you
all,
but
I'm
only
going
to
speak
a
short
time
again.
I
want
to
thank
each
and
every
one
of
you
for
your
leadership,
for
your
guidance
to
allow
me
to
do
the
things
that
I
have
done
and
for
those
of
you
who
also
is
in
the
community,
let's
just
all
help
each
other
and
I'm
going
to
close
by
saying.
Q
Let's
remember,
let
us
not
forget,
but
let
us
move
forward
and
continue
to
help
each
other.
These
are
trying
times
right
now
and
last
week,
when
the
shooting
occurred
at
elementary
school.
I
didn't
know
whether
to
cry
or
be
sad
or
be
angry
matter
of
fact.
I
was
all
three,
so
this
country
has
a
lot
of
healing
to
do
and
we
need
to
take
care
of
our
children
again.
Q
I
want
to
thank
you
for
giving
me
the
opportunity
to
speak
today
and
I
will
continue
to
support
the
city
of
inglewood
and
the
united
states
of
america
and
every
veteran
organization
there
is,
I
wear
the
uniform
as
a
marine,
but
I'm
still
a
human
being
and
a
united
states
citizen.
I
thank
you
very
much
for
your
time.
B
B
There
is
no
way
that
we
could
stand
if
they
had
not
laid
down
their
lives
and
we
have
to
commemorate
them
and
continue
to
carry
out
what
they
stood
for
and
fought
for.
So
thank
you,
mr
johnson.
Again,
at
this
time,
the
american
legion,
jackie
robinson

guard,
will
escort
the
gold
star
mother
from
the
platform
to
begin
the
procession
of
flowers.

his

We

that
wonderful

audience.
Please
give
this
gentleman
a
round
of
applause.
B
Are
you
gracious
and
eternal
father
lord?
How
we
love
you
and
know
how
we
praise
you
lord?
We
thank
you
for
yet
another
opportunity.
Lord
together,
we
thank
you
for
the
celebration,
lord
to
celebrate
those
who
have
sacrificed
their
lives,
lord,
those
who
went
unknowingly
and
blindly
lord
into
the
fight
of
battle,
lord
and
those
who
courageously
and
boldly
went
towards
the
mark.
Lord
lord,
we
thank
you
lord
for
this
body.
B
B
We
ask
that
those
who
walk
down
the
steps
behind
them,
lord,
that
you
will
give
them
the
same
courage,
lord,
the
same
staying
power
and
fight
lord
to
march,
under
the
will
in
your
banner
and
now
lord,
not
unto
us
lord
now
not
unto
us,
but
unto
him
who
was
able
to
keep
us
from
falling
and
to
present
us
faultless
before
the
throne
of
grace
with
honor
dominion
and
power.
Henceforth
now
and
forevermore,
all
the
degrees
said
amen
before
we
conclude,
I
would
like
to
thank
everyone
who
participated
in
today's
memorial
day
program.

the
cost
of
our

for
their
service
to
this
country
is
the

gift
of
all.
