Description
Are You Aware of This New Recycling Ordinance?
In September 2016, the State of California’s – then Governor Brown, signed Senate Bill - (SB) 1383 into law. This Mandatory Recycling Ordinance, aims to reduce statewide emissions of short-lived climate pollutants; but ultimately, the goal is to reduce ALL negative impacts in the atmosphere.
SB 1383 puts the responsibility on each one of us to change how we have long been doing things! So, beginning in June, EVERYONE is now required to divert their organic material from the trash.

Hello,
my
name
is
adriana
grimes.
I
serve
as
a
staff
assistant
in
the
environmental
services
division
of
the
public
works
department,
I'm
here
to
provide
you
with
some
very
important
information
that
will
affect
how
you
dispose
of
food
scraps
and
organic
waste
going
forward
in
september
of
2016
the
state
of
california's,
then
governor
brown
signed
senate
bill
sb
1383
into
law.
A
This
mandatory
recycling
ordinance
aims
to
reduce
statewide
emissions
of
short-lived
climate
pollutants,
but
ultimately
the
goal
is
to
reduce
all
negative
impacts
in
the
atmosphere
for
californians.
Those
impacts
include
air
pollution,
sea
level
rise,
coastal
erosion,
extreme
weather
events
resulting
in
droughts
and
increased
fire
risks.
A
Sb
1383
regulations
apply
to
all
persons
and
entities
that
generate
organic
materials
such
as
food
scraps
and
yard
waste,
and
that's
where
you
come
in
sb1383
puts
the
responsibility
on
each
one
of
us
to
change
how
we
have
long
been
doing
things
so
beginning
in
june.
Everyone
is
now
required
to
divert
their
organic
material
from
the
trash.
A
Here's.
How
you
go
about
doing
that?
If
you
use
both
green
and
black
carts
at
your
residence,
then
you
must
now
put
food
scraps
into
the
green
cart.
I
know
in
the
past,
the
green
cards
have
just
been
used
for
yard
clippings,
but
now
the
green
cards
are
to
be
used
for
both
yard
clippings
and
food
scraps.

A
If
you
operate
a
business
in
the
city
of
englewood
food
waste
will
now
be
disposed
of
in
a
brown
cart
that
will
be
delivered
to
your
location,
for
this
purpose
to
do
that
simply
collect
all
food
waste
organics,
generate
it
from
your
business
and
dispose
of
them
in
the
brown
carts
again.
The
brown
cart
is
solely
for
organics
food
waste.
Your
trash
and
recycling
will
continue
to
be
collected
as
usual.
