A
My
name
is
Michael
mesmero,
visual
artists,
living
and
working
here
in
city
of
Inglewood
California
today
is
a
celebration
of
a
I
gap.
Project
English
growing
arts
project
is
a
pilot
program
that
started
in
2013,
where
three
artists
were
selected
to
do
these
art
projects
throughout
city
of
Inglewood
I'm,
one
of
the
recipients
of
that
my.
B
Name
is
Malaika
Beckford
james,
also
known
as
Eagle
Nebula
today
we're
here
to
celebrate
the
release
of
the
Englewood
poetry
project.
Anthology
I
went
around
for
about
four
months
in
the
city
of
Inglewood.
I
did
writing
workshops
and
all
of
those
workshops
culminated
into
an
anthology
that
I
edited
and
put
together,
and
I
also
got
with
some
musicians
and
created
some
music
for
the
city
of
inglewood
and
press
up
and
limited
edition,
vinyl
and
we'll
be
presenting
some
of
the
music
and
poems
on
that
Rhino.
Here
today
we.
C
A
So
I
do
this
series
of
moving
things
around
either
physical
things
that
I
have
or
mentally
and
so
I
get
to
a
thing
where
I
said
like
it
feels
right,
cuz
I
try
to
make
sure
I
don't
want
to
control.
It
say
like
I
know
it's
gonna
be
like
in
the
beginning,
because
then
it
would
be
something
different
if
I
completed
that
way,
I
like
the
white
deal
to
surprise
and
a
journey
of
it
when.
B
For
like
a
year
and
I
was
trying
to
find
my
creative
grounding
and
I
said
I,
would
he
millions
do
a
project
now
the
whole
time
that
I
was
in
New
York
I
would
always
you
know,
say
to
myself:
somebody
might
go
ahead.
Nobody
wanna
go
home
with
no
home,
and
when
I
got
back
to
inglewood
I
was
like
is
a
sigh
of
relief.
My
whole
family
is
buried
in
the
cemetery.
B
You
know
I
it's
my
route,
you
know
and
when
I
was
thinking
about
the
project,
I
really
thought
about
the
fact
that
we're
not
represented
properly,
you
know
and
the
thing
that
kind
of
misrepresented
us
was
was
music
and
lyricism,
and
so
for
me,
as
a
musician
and
the
lyricist
I
just
wanted
to
offer
another
lyric
for
the
city.
So
today,
you're
gonna
hear
me
perform
a
lyric
engl
englewood,
where
life
is
good,
as
opposed
to
Inglewood
up
to
no
good
I.
Think
we
need
to
get
over.
That.
E
Let's
go:
walk
up,
take
a
little
stroll
around
centinela
bra,
where
the
city's
world
is
surrounded
by
england,
cali,
where
it's
really
crazy
and
I
grow
up
my
pilots
and
our
son
safe
and
I.
Still
the
young
guns,
don't
work
age.
We
don't
need
you
to
throw
your
life
away
and
determine
Sunshine's.
You
got
a
new
baby.
We
got
highways
byways
and
back
streets
and
donuts
on.
B
Englewood
this
project
and
just
Englewood
embracing
their
arts
means
a
lot
to
me
living
you
know,
living
in
other
states
and
other
places,
one
of
the
things
that
I
often
heard
when
I
told
you
where
I
was
from
people
that
come
back
to
me.
The
first
thing
they
say
is:
oh
Inglewood
up
to
no
good,
you
know,
and
so
for
me,
I
knew
that
we
were
really
a
community
of
like
really
beautiful
people,
really
determined
people.
Look
at
all
the
beautiful
businesses
in
englewood.
B
Look
at
the
political
activity
that
we
have
in
inglewood
there's
so
much.
There's
it's
not
like
it's
a
perfect
city,
but
there's
so
many
good
things
that
I
think
he's
about
highlighted
about
the
city.
That's
kind
of
what
I
am
about.
Cuz,
it's
a
beautiful
place,
I
mean
I
lived
in
Brooklyn
New,
York
I
lived
in
Washington,
DC
I
lived
in
west
africa
and
there's
nothing
quite
like
this
place.
So
it's
special
and
I
was
just
really
encourage
the
people
that
live
here.
B
D
It's
awfully
ironic
that
Michael
massenburg
has
been
with
us
from
the
beginning
of
our
art
journey.
He
definitely
has
a
story
to
tell
about
the
city
and
where
we've
come
from
in
terms
of
encouraging
and
celebrating
the
arts,
he
was
at
the
ground
floor
when
we
developed
our
cultural
arts
master
plan
any
time.
D
F
F
Shelving
books
met
my
wife
here,
and
you
know
now
we
have
three
great
kids,
so
this
is
always
a
special
place
for
me
and
I'll
tell
you
that
that
when
you
have
a
mural,
an
artist
that
created
it
from
the
town
with
all
of
that
care
and
really
consciousness
of
what
he's
doing,
it
means
something.
I
have.
A
Fascination
with
texts
and
writing
stuff
they're,
like
kind
of
have
like
a
you
know
like
a
personal
touch
to
it.
I
ran
across
his
letter
and
this
particular
letter
was
resident,
who
wrote
a
letter
to
President
Roosevelt
back
in
the
day.
It
was
a
simple
letter,
just
personal.
Her
intention
was
to
find
out
if
they
were
related.
A
England
has
a
lot
of
rich
tough
things
that
I
didn't
know
about
before
I
went
to
get
a
chance
to
go
visit
the
sunol
Adobe,
which
I've
been
there
years
ago,
and
this
time
I
came
with
a
whole
different
intention,
because
I'm
looking
for
the
deep
history
of
evil
would
so
so
I
definitely
wanted
to
think
about.
Not
only
the
history
of
stuff,
but
also
the
present
in
us,
our
future.
