From YouTube: The Latest COVID-19 Update from Mayor Bob Courtney
Description
Mayor Bob Courtney provides the community with an update regarding the city's response to Governor Eric Holcomb's latest announcement.
A
A
If
you
recall,
in
march
of
2020
governor
holcomb
issued
a
public
health
emergency
in
april.
As
mayor
of
the
city
of
madison,
we
issued
an
executive
order
paralleling
that
public
health
emergency,
so
that
when
governor
holcomb
has
issues
this
new
executive
order,
public
health
emergency
will
expire
by
the
end
of
april.
That
will
also
bring
closure
to
the
city
of
madison's
declaration
of
public
health.
Emergency
we've
been
doing
a
lot
of
things
right.
A
The
face
covering
advisory
that
the
jefferson
county
health
department
issued
in
july,
followed
by
the
statewide
mandate
for
face
coverings,
have
been
followed.
That
has
helped
us
curb
the
transmission
rate
for
the
coronavirus.
If
you
recall,
a
lot
of
this
was
data
driven.
The
approaches
that
we've
been
taking
over
the
course
of
the
past
year
was
to
reduce
the
prevalence
of
the
virus
in
our
communities,
improve
testing
put
in
protocols
so
that
we
can
follow
for
the
health
and
safety
of
our
community
create
public
awareness.
A
As
of
this
morning,
there
have
been
almost
six
thousand
madisonians
and
jefferson
county
residents
who
have
been
fully
vaccinated
and
were
fast
approaching,
eight
to
ten
thousand
individuals
across
our
community
who
are
fully
vaccinated.
Vaccination
and
testing
we've
been
advocating
for
quite
a
while.
A
Now
are
the
two
most
prevalent
ways
that
we
can
improve
our
the
community
of
our
health,
protect
the
community
of
our
health
and
have
a
parallel
track,
which
is
make
sure
that
our
economy
stays
on
track
and
our
way
of
life,
particularly
as
we
are
now
approaching
spring
and
summer
festivities,
with
the
outdoor
festivals
and
we'll
be
able
to
get
back
to
those
without
restrictions
on
gathering
sizes.
So,
as
governor
holcomb
announced
yesterday,
beginning
march,
the
31st
individuals
across
the
state
who
are
16
years
or
older
will
be
eligible
for
vaccination.
A
There
are
hundreds
of
places
for
hoosiers
to
be
vaccinated
and
literally
just
about
anywhere
across
our
community.
You
can
be
vaccinated.
I
myself
was
vaccinated
a
couple
weeks
ago.
We'll
continue
to
offer
free
testing.
We
believe
that
vaccination
and
testing
are
the
two
most
prevalent
ways
in
order
to
make
sure
that
the
health
of
our
community
and
health
of
our
economy
can
work
hand
in
hand
we'll
be
following
governor
holcomb's,
new
advisory
level
suggestions
that
will
be
in
the
next
executive
order.
A
So
we're
happy
to
say
that
our
positivity
rates
declined.
The
number
of
positive
cases
has
declined
dramatically.
Our
health
care
apparatus
is
fully
intact
with
regards
to
hospitalization
ventilator
use.
Number
of
hospitalized
individuals
with
covert
related
illnesses
is
dramatically
different
now
than
it
was
just
a
few
months
ago,
and
so
I
we
think
that
it
is
time
to
follow
governor
holcomb's
lead
here.
