From YouTube: March 6, 2018 Executive Committee
Description
Minneapolis Executive Committee Meeting
A
Good
morning,
I'm
gonna
call
this
regularly
scheduled.
In
fact,
it
feels
like
very
regularly
scheduled
executive
committee
meeting
to
order
the
date
is
Tuesday
March
6.
My
name
is
Jacob
Frye
and
I'm.
The
chair
of
this
committee
joining
me
today,
our
council
members,
Gordon
bender,
Jenkins
and
Johnson.
Let
the
record
reflect
that
we
do
have
a
quorum.
We
have
four
items
on
the
agenda
for
today.
A
The
first
three
are
appointments
and
then
the
fourth
is
a
closed
session.
So
the
first
item
on
the
agenda
is
the
appointment
of
our
director
and
Community
Planning
and
economic
development
department,
which
is
considering
my
nomination
to
a
point:
David
Frank
to
the
appointed
position
of
Director
of
Community
Planning
and
economic
development
and
executive
director
of
Minneapolis
Community
Development
Agency
for
a
two-year
term,
beginning
on
January,
2nd
2018
retroactively
Lee
and
then
referring
the
appointment
to
to
the
council.
B
You
mr.
mayor
well,
I
wanted
to
thank
you
specifically
for
bringing
this
appointment
forward.
David
Frank
has
been
just
really
remarkable.
Department
had
to
work
with
you
think
about
the
department
that
he
oversees
Community
Planning
and
Economic
Development
ties
into
so
many
of
our
different
goals
that
we're
trying
to
advance
on
different
fronts
that
ties
into
affordable
housing.
It
ties
into
racial
equity.
It
ties
into
Workforce
Development.
B
A
A
David
is
mr.
Frank
is
really
a
visionary
leader.
I
think
he's
been
behind
so
much
of
the
positive
growth
that
has
occurred
in
Minneapolis
over
the
next
several
years
as
chair
of
the
Neighborhood
Association,
as
as
a
transportation
director
and
see
pet
and
finally,
as
an
economic
director,
the
work
that
he's
done,
I
think
is
really
exemplary
of
the
work
that
we
have
to
come,
whether
that's
an
affordable
housing
or
growth
or
density.
A
And
you
know
these
are
concepts
where
you
know
the
only
thing
that
people
hate
worse
than
the
status
quo
is
any
change
at
all
and
I'm,
proud
that
mr.
Frank
has
consistently
pushed
for
that
change.
I've
seen
it
firsthand
again
and
again
and
again
and
I'm,
really
proud,
extremely
proud
to
put
his
name
forward
any
further
discussion
on
this
item,
seeing
none
all
those
in
favor,
please
say:
aye
aye
aye,
all
those
opposed
say
no,
and
that
item
passes.
A
He's
undoubtedly
the
one
for
the
job
and
I'm
happy
to
move
this
item
forward.
So
on
that
motion,
any
discussion
on
the
reappointment
of
Barrett
Lane,
no,
all
those
in
favor,
please
say
aye,
all
those
opposed
say
no
and
that
that
item
passes.
The
third
on
the
docket
is
the
considering
the
nomination
to
a
point
on
the
Rio
Rivera
van
der
Meyde
to
the
appointed
position
of
C
coordinator
for
a
two-year
term,
beginning
January,
2nd,
2018
and
so
I
will
go
ahead
and
move
mr.
Rivera's
appointment
forward.
Any
any
discussion
on
this
item.
C
C
B
You
mr.
mayor
I
am
so
happy
about
this
nomination.
Marie
has
been
just
incredible
to
work
with
over
the
years
and
she
has
really
demonstrated
and
proven
herself
not
just
that
she
can
be
a
change
agent
within
departments,
but
that
she
can
work
really
cross
Department
to
help
get
things
done
across
the
enterprise
and
that's
really
obviously
the
role
of
the
coordinators
department
and
not
just
keeping
the
trains
running
on
time,
but
also
of
advancing
policy
initiatives
and
making
sure
that
each
department
has
the
institutional
support.
B
They
need
to
be
as
effective
as
possible
and
on
both
of
those
fronts.
She's
just
been
incredibly
successful
and
watching,
as
she
has
made
it
easy
for
us
to
focus
on
other
priorities,
because
things
are
running
so
well
and
at
the
same
time
has
provided
support
and
been
able
to
be
nimble
and
be
responsive
when
the
City
Council
pursues
another
direction
on
things.
They're
another
big
project,
and
so
it's
just
been
great
working
with
her.
And
congratulations
on
the
nomination.
C
A
Also
comment
briefly:
I'm
really
thrilled
to
put
miss
Rivera's
name
forward.
You
know.
First,
if
you
just
look
at
her
experience,
I
mean
she
has
the
experience
from
whether
it's
a
corporate
litigator
or
running
the
corrections
facilities
in
Puerto,
Rico
or
our
department
head
of
regulatory
services.
A
Deputy
city
coordinator
I
mean
that
resume
I
think
speaks
for
itself,
but
miss
Rivera
also
speaks
for
herself
on
her
own.
You
know
she
has
managed
to
coordinate
some
of
the
most
extensive
efforts
that
we've
had
in
our
city
over
the
last
several
years
from
a
minimum
wage
to
earn
sick
and
safe
time
to
the
racial
equity
work.
