A
Starting
a
business
or
making
improvements
on
an
existing
business
property
can
seem
overwhelming,
but
it
doesn't
have
to
be
for
any
building
or
remodeling
project.
The
city's
development
review
customer
service
center
can
help
guide
you
through
the
process
to
obtain
all
required
plan,
reviews
permits
and
inspections
that
you
will
need
for
simple
commercial
projects
like
interior
tenant
improvements,
interior
models
and
minor
exterior
projects.
A
We
can
help
you
complete
your
transaction
during
the
same
day
visit,
so
you
leave
with
your
permit
for
more
complicated
projects
like
wrecking
a
building
additions
to
commercial
buildings
or
constructing
a
new
building.
You
will
be
assigned
a
development
coordinator
before
you
sign
a
lease
check
with
our
zoning
section
to
see
if
the
attendant
use
is
allowed.
You
can
check
the
zoning
restrictions
by
contacting
311
or
6
12
673
3000.
It's
important
to
take
into
consideration
not
just
the
cost,
to
run
your
business,
but
also
the
cost
to
prepare
for
the
opening
to
do
this.
A
You'll
need
to
compile
some
basic
information.
For
example,
will
you
need
to
do
physical
improvements
to
your
space
and,
if
you
do,
how
much
will
that
cost
visit
with
a
development
coordinator
at
the
city
of
Minneapolis
to
complete
the
four-step
development
review
process,
project
concept,
plan
review,
permit
issuance
and
final
inspection?
Let's
talk
about
each
of
these
four
steps
in
more
detail
using
the
example
of
a
restaurant
owner
step,
one
project
concept
during
your
initial
conversation,
the
development
coordinator
would
make
sure
that
you
understand
the
development
review
process.
A
When
you
leave,
they
would
make
sure
you
understand
three
main
things:
the
required
reviews
permits
and
licenses
for
your
project,
potential
fees,
your
project
might
have
and
all
applicable
review
processes
and
timelines.
Please
note
at
this
point:
you
should
not
have
signed
a
lease
why
a
city
planner
will
be
able
to
determine
whether
or
not
your
idea
will
be
allowed
in
the
space.
You
are
interested
in
leasing.
A
Sometimes
your
project
plans
for
a
space
and
the
zoning
requirements
do
not
match
it's
rare,
but
if
it
does
occur,
the
planner
help
guide
you
through
any
issues
to
help
you
achieve
your
development
goals,
always
keep
in
mind.
It's
never
too
early
to
come
in
and
discuss
your
product
idea,
step
2
plan
review.
A
Now
you
are
ready
to
submit
your
project
plans
to
your
development
coordinator
as
a
restaurant,
your
plans
will
be
reviewed
by
several
city
of
Minneapolis
departments,
including
the
Minneapolis
Health
Department,
an
example
of
something
they
will
be
looking
to
see
is
that
your
menu
matches
up
with
your
equipment.
Once
your
plan
is
approved,
you
will
move
to
step
three
permit
issuance.
You
will
be
issued
the
appropriate
permits,
pay
for
them
and
begin
construction
work
during
the
construction
process.
The
city
will
send
out
inspectors
to
check
your
work
as
it
is
completed.
A
Make
sure
that
you
build
exactly
what
is
in
the
plan
to
avoid
delays.
If,
for
some
reason
you
need
to
change
something
from
the
approved
permit
check
with
your
development
coordinator
to
make
sure
the
change
is
permitted
by
the
city
of
Minneapolis
step
forward
final
inspection,
the
city
will
do
a
final
inspection
to
make
sure
that
all
structures
in
Minneapolis
are
safe
for
those
who
work
inside
up
and
visit
its
buildings.
When
your
project
is
complete,
you
will
need
to
pass
a
final
inspection
to
get
your
business
license
and
certificate
of
occupancy.
A
That
proves,
you
are
authorized
to
run
a
business
in
the
city
of
Minneapolis.
We
know
the
development
review
process
is
complex,
but
we're
here
to
help
you.
We
know
that
Minneapolis
wouldn't
be
the
vibrant,
diverse
metropolis.
We
are
today
without
our
entrepreneur
and
business
community.
So
thank
you
for
choosing
to
do
business
in
Minneapolis.
