Next,
they
watched
the
chief's
vehicle
yup
that
happens
every
day,
along
with
raising
the
united
states
flag.
After
raising
the
flag,
firefighters
have
a
set
of
chores
that
need
to
be
completed.
This
includes
sweeping
bathrooms,
washing
floors,
vacuuming
gathering
laundry
and
removing
all
the
trash.
A
Once
the
chores
are
completed,
they
can
relax
for
a
bit
before
the
crew
heads
out
at
lunch
to
run
errands,
get
groceries
or
conduct
a
building.
Familiarization
back
at
the
station.
Many
firefighters
choose
to
work
out.
Most
stations
have
a
workout
facility,
because
exercise
is
important
for
staying
both
physically
and
mentally
fit.
It
helps
us
deal
with
the
trauma
and
stress
we
experience
daily.
A
There
are
19
fire
stations
in
minneapolis
and
each
firefighter
is
assigned
to
a
station
for
two
years.
Some
fire
stations
have
one
fire
engine,
while
others
have
a
fire
engine
in
a
fire
truck
a
fire
engine
has
about
550
gallons
of
water
and
is
used
to
go
on
medical
calls.
A
fire
truck
can
be
thought
of
as
a
huge
toolbox
that
is
equipped
with
a
hundred
foot
ladder.
A
Each
station
has
monthly
house
dues
that
all
firefighters
pay
this
allows
them
to
have
the
comforts
of
home
while
they're
away
from
home
the
house
dues
pay
for
things
like
newspapers,
cable,
tv,
internet
spices
for
cooking,
and
we
always
have
lots
of
coffee
on
hand.
They
also
help
pay
for
bigger
items
like
large
screen,
tvs
and
furniture.
A
Speaking
of
house
duels,
the
firefighters
here
put
in
enough
to
buy
equipment
for
a
pickleball
court.
Here
you
can
see
them
having
some
fun
in
between
calls
for
dinner.
We
all
clutch
one
person
is
designated
to
pay
and
cook
for
the
crew,
after
which
everyone
pays
to
cook.
When
it
comes
time
to
clean
up
the
crew
at
station
6
slides
quarters
to
see
what
cleanup
duties
they
get.
The
first
quarter
to
slide
off
the
table,
mops
the
floor,
one
dries
the
dishes
and
the
last
one
washes
all
the
dishes.
A
As
you
can
see,
it's
fun
and
competitive
with
some
skill
involved
in
a
dash
of
luck.
In
the
evening,
most
firefighters
try
to
lay
down
by
10
pm
but
get
different
amounts
of
sleep
depending
on
how
many
calls
they
get
during
the
night.
Some
station
sleeping
quarters
are
set
up
like
dorms,
while
others
have
their
own
rooms,
which
they
share
with
other
firefighters
from
other
ships.
