A
A
B
C
D
Okay,
thank
you
for
having
me
back
again:
Michael
I'm,
an
attorney
I
work
for
the
city
of
minneapolis's
labor
standards
enforcement
division.
D
Our
job
is
to
make
sure
that
Minneapolis
labor
laws
are
enforced,
so
that
makes
to
make
sure
that
the
workers
get
the
rights
that
they're
entitled
to
under
the
law,
and
we
work
with
employers
and
workers
make
sure
there's
compliance.
C
B
D
Ly
for
the
next
two
weeks,
the
minimum
wage
is
14.25
if
you
work
for
a
franchise
like
Subway
or
Kung,
Fu,
tea
or
Burger
King,
and
it's
also
14.25.
If
the
company
has
more
than
100
employees,
if
you're
not
one
of
those
two
categories,
then
the
current
minimum
wage
is
12.50.
D
I
get
this
question
every
week,
so
it
means
that
we
have
to
still
keep
getting
the
information
out
there.
A
few
things
I
want
to
mention
what
matters
is
not
where
the
company
is
those
things
don't
matter
all
that
matters
is
where
is
the
work
being
done,
whether
it's
in
your
home
or
in
a
bill
in
a
the
office
building?
If
it's
inside
the
city
limits
of
Minneapolis,
our
labor
ordinances
apply,
so
any
work
done
here,
number
two:
it
applies
to
everybody
working
as
an
employee,
I
keep
getting
emails.
D
C
D
I
just
want
to
give
one
exception,
because
I
forgot
I've
been
getting
this
question.
The
one
exception
is,
if
you
work
for
another
governmental
entity
like
I,
get
this
question
from
students
at
the
University
of
Minnesota.
So
if
you
work
for
like
the
federal
government
or
state
government
or
like
Minneapolis
public
schools
directly
for
a
governmental
entity,
then
we
don't
have
jurisdiction
over
you.
B
D
D
You
know
that
all
work
deserves
dignity,
so
you
know
fifteen
thousand
dollars
a
year
is
not
going
to
get
it
done
in
Minneapolis,
so
they
chose
that
to
pass
a
law
saying
that
that
the
minimum
wage
would
be
higher
so
that
you
know
we
see
how
much
how
much
things
have
gone
up
gas
and
and
other
products
so
yeah.
We
just
wanted
something
that
would
be
more
fair
for
everyone,
foreign.
C
D
Ers
in
Minneapolis
decided
on
because
they
chose
city
council
people
specifically,
who
were
supportive
of
raising
the
minimum
wage
and
I.
Think
the
people
Minneapolis
see
that
you
know
all
these
workers.
These
are
their
friends
and
neighbors
and
they
want
people
to
be
treated
with
dignity.
I
mean
you
know
you
work
and
if
you
work
that
you
should
be
able
to
at
least
have
a
you
know,
minimum
standard
of
living
that
comes
from
that
work
and
that
wasn't
happening
when
you
know
we
were
hoping
it
would.
B
D
D
So
when
we
think
about
it,
small
businesses
that
are
the
engine
of
communities,
someone
has
to
buy
their
products,
and
so,
if
their
wages
are
reasonable,
they're
they're
able
to
put
more
into
the
economy
that
does
help
it
also
just
our
normal
care
for
our
our
neighbors
I
mean
they're
people,
and
we
don't
want
them
to
be.
You
know
working
full-time
and
homeless,
but
there's
been
a
lot
of
issues
with
just
seeing
the
benefits
of
it.
D
One
example
I
know
a
Minneapolis
health
inspector
told
me
that
70
of
the
time
when
we
get
sick
after
eating
at
a
restaurant,
it's
not
because
of
the
food
it's
actually
because
of
the
workers
being
sick,
and
so
when
they're,
you
don't
have
sick
time.
You
just
go
ahead
and
work,
and
then
everybody
gets
sick.
So
Minneapolis
has
been
trying
to
bring
more
dignity
to
people's
work,
so
they
can
get
paid
and
if
they're
sick,
they
can
stay
home
home
and
not
get
everybody
else.
Sick.
C
B
B
D
Well,
the
minimum
wage
is
just
one
way
of
wage
theft
occurring,
so
there's
wage
theft
is
whenever
workers
do
not
get
the
money
that
they're
entitled
to.
So,
if
you're
not
being
paid
the
minimum
wage,
that's
one
form
of
wage
theft
if
you're
not
being
paid
overtime,
that's
a
form
of
wage
theft.
If,
as
unfortunately
happens,
many
times,
you're
told
to
work
before
you
punch
in
or
after
you
punch
out,
oh
just
clean
up
or
just
do
some
things
there
just
help
out.
D
That's
also
wage
theft
when
you're
out
sick
and
you're
supposed
to
get
paid
for
that.
That's
also
wage
theft,
so
minimum
wage
is
just
one
component
of
it,
but
estimates
are
that
total
wage
theft
in
America
is
much
more
than
other
theft
combined
like
all
automobile
theft,
and
these
things,
a
wage
theft
is,
is
a
a
big
problem
and
not
paying
the
minimum
wage
is
a
significant
part
of
that
problem
is.
C
D
The
number
one
way
it's
enforced
is
with
help
from
the
community,
and
you
know
I'm,
hoping
that
the
listeners
will
help
us
out.
I
had
a
significant
settlement
just
a
few
weeks
ago,
because
someone
called
on
behalf
of
their
friend
they're,
like
hey,
my
friend
works
here
and
I,
know:
they're
not
being
paid
the
proper
minimum
wage
and
that
triggered
an
investigation
and
they
they
got
more
than
the
money
that
was
owed
to
them,
because
there
are
penalties
that
get
involved
and
those
also
go
to
the
workers.
D
But
the
most
important
thing
is:
the
community
has
to
reach
out
to
us
whether
it's
on
your
behalf
or
a
family
member
or
friend,
call
3-1-1.
We
have
Hmong
speakers,
you
can
keep
your
name
confidential.
Nobody
will
know
that
you
filed
the
complaint,
but
that's
the
most
important
thing
is
you
know
when
you
know
there's
a
violation.
You
have
to
report
it
and
once
a
complaint
comes
in,
then
we
audit
the
entire
business.
D
So
we
don't
say:
oh
you
know,
Jay
is
saying
that
he
he
did
not
get
his
money
and
then
they're
like
okay,
let's
fire
Jay.
So
no
we
say,
there's
been
a
complaint,
show
us
the
records
for
all
the
workers
at
your
business,
because
we
know
if
you're,
cheating,
one
person
you're,
probably
cheating
other
people.
So
that's
how
we
do
it.
We
do
an
audit
where
they
give
the
records
for
everybody.
So
that's
not
even
known
who
is
complaining
or
who
has
a
problem,
but
that's
the
way
it's
enforces.
D
C
Well,
yeah.
C
C
B
I'm
near
the
city,
it's
my
understanding.
The
city
also
has
a
sick
leave
Law
and
that
you
know
it
covers
times.
It
covers
time
when
people
may
need
to
get
their
covid-19
vaccines.
Can
you
tell
us
about
that?
Minneapolis.
D
D
We
can
just
talk
about
it
in
the
regarding
the
covet
vaccine.
So
let's
say
you
have
to
make
an
appointment
for
your
your
child
or
your
grandmother,
somebody
who's
living
in
your
home.
So
you
make
an
appointment
for
the
covet
vaccine
that
time
that
you
went
to
get
the
vaccine
you
need
to.
You
can
use
your
sick
and
safe
time
for
that
and
be
paid
after
they
get
the
vaccine.
D
Let's
say
for
some
reason:
they
feel
sick
after
it.
So
the
next
day
your
grandmother
is
sick.
After
you
took
her
and
there's
nobody
to
take
care
of
her,
you
can
also
use
your
sick
and
safe
time
to
take
care
of
your
grandmother
that
day,
for
two
days
until
you
know,
whatever
is
needed
until
she's
better.
You
can
use
your
sick
time
to
take
care
of
your
grandmother
or
your
child
if
they've
had
any
effects
from
the
covet
vaccine
or
if
they
need
to
go
and
get
the
vaccine.
C
C
D
I
just
want
to
say
one
thing
that
we're
just
giving
an
example
of
the
covet
vaccine,
but
if
you're
sick,
for
any
reason
you
can
use
your
sick
and
safe
time
or
your
family
members
are
sick
for
any
reason
you
could
use
it
to
take
care
of
them.
C
B
I'm
here
all
right,
you
know
the
information
that
you
provide
is
so
critical
to
our
community.
So
what?
What
should
an
employee
do?
They
do
not
have
sick
leave
or
don't
know
whether
their
employee
will
let
them
use
it.
You.
B
D
Michael,
thank
you
for
that.
I
think
the
most
important
thing
we
tell
people
now
is
you
have
to
look
at
your
paycheck,
because
it's
now
the
law
in
Minneapolis
that
your
paycheck
has
to
show
you
how
many
sick
and
save
time
hours
you
have
available.
Your
paycheck
needs
to
show
you
how
much
money
you're
making
even
when
you're
first
hired
now
they
have
to
give
you
what's
called
a
pre-hire
notice.
That
shows
you
what
your,
how
much
money
you're
making?
D
What
are
your
benefits
so
I
always
tell
people
first,
you
have
to
get
a
hold
of
your
paycheck
because
we're
going
to
ask
to
see
it
anyway,
so
we
can
know
what's
happening
when
you
get
your
paycheck
and
you
see
that
there's
something
wrong:
sick
and
safe
time,
wage
theft-
something
like
this.
If
it
cannot
be
resolved
with
your
employer,
the
easiest
thing
is
to
call
3-1-1
whether
you're
filing
a
complaint
or
if
you
have
a
question
just
so,
the
listeners
know
I'm
whenever
you
call
3-1-1
and
they
take
your
information
down.
D
All
of
the
questions
come
directly
to
me.
So
you're
going
to
hear
from
me.
If
you
have
any
questions
about
sick
and
save
time,
if
you
want
to
file
a
complaint
with
3-1-1,
then
it
automatically
is
put
into
our
spreadsheet
and
then
our
intake
person,
her
name,
is
Ashley.
She'll
call
you
we'll
have
interpreters,
but
the
main
thing
is
number
one:
look
at
your
paycheck
and
make
sure
you
have
a
copy
of
it
and
number
two
call
three
one
one.
If
you
have
questions
or
if
you
want
to
file
a
complaint.
C
C
C
B
Thank
you
so
much.
You
know,
you're
an
awesome
person
working
in
the
city,
doing
so
much
stuff
for
all
of
us
and
for
coming
on
among
radio
and
talking
and
sharing
information
with
our
listener
on
air.
Greatly
appreciate
your
time.
Thank
you
so
much
for
coming
in.
Thank
you,
Naomi
for
also
coming
in.
Thank
you.
So
much
have
a
wonderful
day
here.
