city
has
a
new
agreement
with
Xcel
Energy
to
purchase
more
renewable
energy
for
the
Minneapolis,
Convention
Center
and
water
treatment
facilities.
The
agreement
reduces
the
city's
carbon
footprint
by
12%.
Overall,
more
than
38%
of
the
city's
electricity
comes
from
renewable
sources.
The
city
is
purchasing
land
under
the
Kmart
store
in
south
Minneapolis,
as
part
of
a
long-standing
effort
to
reopen
Nicollet
at
Lake.
Street.
Moving
ahead
with
the
purchase
gives
the
city
certainty,
but
at
some
point
Nicollet
having
to
reopen,
but
an
exact
timeline
hasn't
been
determined.

city
will
continue
to
orbit
Kmart
on
the
possibility
of
relocating
the
store.
Nicollet
Mall
Construction
is
entering
the
homestretch.
Crews
are
planting
trees
along
the
mall,
starting
with
the
south
end.
More
than
240
trees
will
be
planted,
including
eight
different
species.
Soon,
other
key
features
will
be
arriving
on
the
mall,
including
new
artwork
street
furniture
and
LED
lights.
