A
B
Thank
You
mr.
elder
and
hello,
everyone,
and
thanks
for
being
here
today,
to
discuss
the
public
safety
measures
ahead
of
another
very
significant
event
for
the
city
of
Minneapolis
hosting
large-scale
events,
as
you
may
know
at
this
point,
has
really
become
old
hats
to
us
from
the
X
Games
to
the
Superbowl,
to
the
baseball
all-star
game.
B
Now
the
NCAA
Final
Four.
We
do
these
events,
we
do
them
with
style.
The
world
has
seen
that
we
are
indeed
a
world-class
City
and
we
can
handle
world-class
events.
They've
also
seen
that
we
have
some
world-class
professionals
in
our
law
enforcement
community
for
the
Super
Bowl.
Our
department
was
responsible
for
leading
and
implementing
a
plan
that
required
cooperation
with
over
3,000
sworn
officers
from
across
sixty
Minnesota
jurisdictions
and
for
240
federal
agencies.
Officers
from
Ely
to
Eagan
joined
the
Minneapolis
Police
Department
to
keep
the
roughly
125
thousand
visitors
and
Minneapolis
residents
safe.
B
The
final
four
will
be
an
exceedingly
serious
undertaking
as
well.
We
take
publics.
We
take
public
safety
very
seriously.
The
safety
of
our
residents
of
our
workers
and
our
guests
is
a
top
priority
and
I'm
here
to
thank
the
people
who
keep
the
peace.
During
these
times
of
heightened
national
attention
and
opportunity.
C
Good
afternoon,
everyone
mayor
Frey,
thank
you.
So
much
I
also
want
to
just
recognize
a
couple
of
folks
here
today,
they're
joined
with
us
em
lock
our
host
committee
who's
also
here
present
today.
None
of
this
could
not
have
occurred
without
the
wonderful
leadership
and
coordination
of
Miss
Kay
Mortensen.
So
thank
you
as
well
for
being
here
and
as
we
prepare
our
public
safety
for
the
Final
Four.
We
are
consisting
of
city,
local,
county
state
and
federal
partnerships
and
I'm
pleased
to
have
one
of
our
great
partners
with
the
FBI
mr.
C
Joel
Rivers
who's
standing
behind
me
here
as
we
prepare
Public
Safety
for
the
final
four
events.
We
have
been
engaged
training
and
preparation
long
before
even
our
Super
Bowl
planning.
So
we
feel
very
assured
and
confident
of
the
training
of
the
outreach
of
the
partnerships
and
collaborations
to
make
this
an
absolutely
wonderful
family-friendly
event.
The
coordination
with
our
Minnesota
law
enforcement
is
very
critical
and
very
important
and
I
feel
that
we
have
a
very
strong
relationship
in
that.
C
C
We
are
encouraging
our
community
members
that
if
they
should
see
something
suspicious
to
say
something
if
they
should
see
something
suspicious,
say
something
and
certainly
call
911
our
residents,
our
tourists,
our
visitors,
we
want
them
to
be
a
force
force
multiplier
when
it
comes
to
the
safety
of
our
city.
So
we
are
encouraging
that
situational
awareness
is
very
important
again
under
the
leadership
of
Mayor
Frye.
D
Hello,
everybody
I'm
Dave
Hudson
had
a
County,
Sheriff
and
I
just
want
to
thank
the
mayor
and
other
chief.
This
is
important
for
us
ahead
of
a
County
Sheriff's
Office
is
a
you
know,
a
leader
in
world-class.
D
You
know
policing
with
partners,
and
if
you
know
what
I
want
to
talk
about,
as
as
the
chief
said,
the
public
and
private
partnerships
we
have.
It's
called
the
shield
program
so
to
all
the
security
agencies
and
different
security
from
different
buildings
come
together
to
our
standard
called
sisa,
which
is
the
criminal
information
sharing
an
Analysis
Unit,
and
that
just
goes
to
everybody
with
the
same
information
comes
out
the
same
time.
So
if
we
have
a
problem
in
the
US
bank,
building
law
enforcement
across
the
state
knows
about
it.
D
So
this
is
important
organization
and
I'm
excited
to
be
a
part
of
that.
As
the
chief
'men
mayor
talked
about.
You
know
we're
here
to
assist
Minneapolis
in
their
public
safety
efforts.
My
agency
has
about
a
hundred
personnel
helping
starting
Tuesday,
and
that
consists
of
mostly
deputies,
but
a
few
volunteer
deputies
will
be
providing
stadium
security,
security
for
the
Nicollet
Mall
team,
hotels
and
at
the
Armory
for
some
music
events,
but,
most
importantly,
I
think
our
biggest
resource
for
this
is
providing
transports
to
and
from
the
airports
to
hotels,
etc.
D
We're
kind
of
taking
the
lead
on
that,
so
it's
really
exciting
for
us
me
being
a
new
sheriff.
This
is
my
first
major
event,
but
my
wonderful
staff
have
been
prepared
for
for
over
a
year
about
this.
So
we
our
confidence,
going
to
go
very,
very
smooth
and
also
I.
Think
you
know
we
forget,
sometimes
our
partnerships
with
our
our
canine
friends,
we're
gonna
have
a
lot
of
our
yo
D
dogs
out.
D
You
know
sniff
around
making
sure
pretty
safe,
but
my
goal
is
the
sheriff
is
to
you
know
not
only
showcase,
this
wonderful
city
but
of
course,
I
got
to
talk
about
great
how
the
county
is,
and
hopefully
some
of
the
residents
can
venture
out
a
little
bit,
but
we're
gonna
be
here
to
help
we're
gonna,
keep
it
safe
and
and
we're
gonna
have
fun,
and
you
may
even
see
me
out
having
a
little
fun
so
I
appreciate
it.
Thank
you
very
much.
E
Hi
I'm
Shane
sonim,
the
director
of
safety
initiatives
for
the
Minneapolis
downtown
Improvement
District.
As
a
chief
says,
we
have
some
of
the
best
public-private
collaboration
efforts
here
throughout
the
country.
Some
of
the
initiatives
that
we're
doing
here
is
in
trust
with
the
MPD
Hennepin
County
Sheriff's
Department,
the
mayor's
office
and
M
Locke.
E
We
have
over
60
buildings
on
a
common
radio
link
channel
with
law
enforcement,
and
this
is
called
our
radio
link
program.
We're
also
connected
to
several
the
bars
at
night
through.
What's
happened
in
radio
comms
as
well,
the
security
is
our
first
multiplier,
but
it
doesn't
just
stop
there.
We
also
have
our
wonderful
di
D,
Ambassador
Program
they'll,
be
out
in
the
bright
green,
polos
and
blue
jackets
if
it's
chillier,
helping
people
find
directions,
information
and,
more
importantly,
a
welcoming
smile.
We
work
extensively
with
street
outreach
teams
like
st.
E
Stephen's,
youth
link,
youth,
Coordinating,
Board,
mad
dads,
mother's
love
and
many
more
on
safety
for
everybody
downtown.
These
efforts
happen
every
day,
not
just
for
Final
Four
we've
been
planning
and
we
are
ready
for
Final
Four.
This
is
what
we
do
so
I
hope
everybody
gets
a
chance
to
come
downtown
and
enjoy
it.
So
thank
you.
