Description
Announce construction changes to I-35W and I-94 near downtown Minneapolis including the downtown access and what commuters can do to navigate the changes.
A
Well,
thank
you.
Everyone
for
joining
us
today,
we're
here
to
remind
everybody
that
MnDOT
is
making
major
changes
to
your
your
commute
to
downtown
Minneapolis,
which
we
can
see
over
here,
starting
Friday,
June
8th
as
part
of
our
major
construction
project,
which
we
have
located
right
behind
us
over
here.
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
Mndot
today
launched
an
easy-to-use
website
for
motorists
detailing
the
critical
road
and
bridge
improvement
projects
across
the
Minneapolis
st.
Paul
metro
area.
This
summer.
These
projects
represent
a
significant
undertaking
to
build
better
roads
and
a
multimodal
transportation
system
that
supports
a
growing
economy
and
a
stronger
community.
You
can
visit
the
web
page
at
WWF,
better
roads.
We
have
that
listed
right
here.
A
Mndot
is
also
working
hard
with
partners
to
make
sure
you
have
as
much
information
as
possible
about
how
to
move
around
here,
there's
so
much
to
do
in
Minneapolis,
catch
a
game.
A
concert
visit
the
riverfront
and
I'm
going
to
introduce
Steve
Kramer
president
and
CEO
of
the
Minneapolis
downtown
Council
to
talk
about
the
great
things
happening
in
Minneapolis
that
we
want
you
to
participate
in
while
the
project
is
moving
forward.
Steve.
B
Thank
you
Scott.
My
name
is
Steve
Kramer
CR,
Amer
I'm,
president
and
CEO
of
the
Minneapolis
downtown
Council,
and
it
Scott
said
it's
certainly
going
to
be
different
starting
very
soon
to
get
in
and
out
of
downtown
for
the
from
the
South
Metro,
but
I
want
to
emphasize
downtown
is
open.
Downtown
is
accessible
for
this
period
of
time.
B
All
of
us
who
love
to
go
downtown
for
a
Twins
game
for
theater
for
a
great
restaurant
or
those
who
work
downtown
from
the
South
Metro
can
adjust
to
the
reality
of
this
new
long-term
infrastructure
investment
that
the
state
is
making
in
this
key
in
this
key
highway.
It
may
take
a
few
weeks
to
settle
into
a
new
pattern,
but
that
will
happen
and
downtown,
as
I
said,
is
open
and
accessible
for
business
and
all
the
great
reasons
that
people
love
to
come
to
downtown
Minneapolis.
B
As
always,
there
will
also
be
other
roadwork
and
street
work
occurring
at
the
same
time,
and
you
may
hear
a
little
bit
about
that
today.
So
I
would
encourage
all
commuters,
whether
it's
a
worker
or
someone
just
coming
downtown,
to
take
advantage
of
the
many
great
things
that
downtown
has
to
offer
to
keep
informed
about
all
the
work
that
will
be
going
on.
There's
a
website
at
MnDOT.
There
are
other
resources
at
the
city
and
the
county
and
metro
transit
so
keep
informed
about
what's
going
on
and
if
you
run
into
something,
that's
unexpected.
B
There's
no
question
that
these
next
three
or
four
years
are
going
to
be
a
little
more
challenging,
but
measured
in
decades
that
this
project
will
serve
the
vitality
of
our
downtown
in
our
region
in
our
state.
It
makes
sense
to
go
ahead
and
make
this
investment
will
have
better
transit
coming
into
downtown
Minneapolis.
The
roadway
will
be
easier
to
navigate
we'll
have
better
access
to
other
parts
of
the
economy
in
your
near
downtown
Minneapolis.
B
So
this
investment
is
is
worth
it
so
again
to
summarize
downtown
is
open
and
accessible
people
are
going
to
have
to
make
some
adjustments,
but
we
can
do
that,
be
informed
about
what's
happening
so
that
you
can
be
a
make
good
decisions
about
the
way
you
get
to
and
around
downtown
and
what
modes
you
use
and
in
the
long
run,
measured
in
decades
of
benefit.
This
project
is
going
to
be
worth
it
and
it
will
help
maintain
our
vitality
as
a
downtown
as
a
city
and
as
a
region.
Thank
you.
Scott.
A
C
Thank
you
Scott
and
good
morning.

as
mentioned
a
deputy
chief
operating
officer
for
bus
with
Metro
transit
and
the
the
key
points
that
Metro
Transit
wants
you
to
know
is
that
we're
a
solution,
we're
a
stress
reliever
throughout
this
road
construction
project.
We
believe
we're
gonna,
be
a
viable
option
to
be
able
to
transport
people
safely
and
efficiently
and
in
a
stress-free
way,
you're
able
to
hop
on
board
anyone
any
number
of
our
routes.

A

Good

or
nearly
afternoon,

the
city
of
Minneapolis.
I
would
like
to
thank
Scott,
McBride,
MnDOT
and
all
the
partners
for
the
everyday
collaboration
on
this
project.
There
isn't
one
day
that
goes
by
that
our
teams
aren't
working
together
on
construction
schedules,
detour
routes,
communications
and
a
whole
host
of
other
activities.
That
will
make
this
project
as
seamless
as
it
possibly
can
be.
D
The
city
of
Minneapolis
is
deeply
supportive
of
improving
our
transportation
network
in
this
region,
and
this
project
is
one
of
the
most
transformative
ways
that
we
can
bring
people
in
and
out
of
our
downtown.
If,
as
well
as
serve
our
residents,
in
particular,
the
transit
connection
at
Lake.
Street
is
a
part
of
this
project.
It
will
provide
access,
direct
access
to
high
efficiency,
transit
on
35w
to
residents
and
visitors
in
the
Lake
Street
area.
D
This
is
a
much
needed
transit
connection,
in
particular,
for
this
neighborhood
I
think
that
everyone
up
here
recognizes
that
major
construction
is
difficult.
It's
disruptive
to
your
lives.
You
have
to
plan
ahead
and
make
different
choices
than
you're
used
to,
and
we
fully
recognize
that
and
we
are
doing
everything
we
can
to
reduce
that
stress
of
moving
around
almost
everyone
travels
just
about
everyone
travels
on
a
daily
basis
to
work
to
school,
to
do
errands
for
health
care
to
transport
children.
Almost
everyone
travels
on
a
daily
basis.
D
D
If
you
are
a
walker
or
you
are
a
bicycle
rider,
we
are
working
diligently
in
the
city
of
Minneapolis
to
make
sure
that
you
have
convenient
connections
as
convenient,
as
can
be
to
make
your
short
trip
across
or
through
the
corridor.
If
you
are
a
driver,
we
are
continually
adjusting
traffic
signal.
Timing
on
our
surface
streets
throughout
the
city
and
I
will
say
that
if
you
are
a
driver,
now
is
the
time
to
think
about
how
else
you
might
choose
to
travel.
D
Even
if
you
choose
something
else
just
one
day
a
week,
it
will
have
a
big
difference,
and
the
last
message
that
I'd
like
to
share
is
that
this
project
will
take
kindness
and
patience
on
the
part
of
everybody
who
travels.
Welcome
to
Minneapolis
people
who
are
traveling
will
now
be
traveling
directly
through
our
neighborhoods.
D
We
ask
that
you
remember
that
people
are
walking
their
dogs,
children
are
playing
and
daily
life
is
going
on
and
each
one
of
these
detour
routes,
patience
and
kindness
will
be
key
to
making
sure
that
your
travel
experience
is
a
good
one
and
our
neighborhoods
can
continue
to
enjoy
the
same
quality
of
life
that
they
do
today.
Thank
you
very
much,
and
thank
you
to
MnDOT
and
all
of
our
partners.
A
A
Also
a
workplace
is
an
organization
that
can
help
employers
connect
employees
with
services
to
work
from
home
during
peak
traffic
hours.
Employers
interested
in
offering
this
option
can
find
out
more
details
at
our
project
website
at
MnDOT
gov,
slash,
35w
94,
which
is
listed
right
here
on
the
banner.
A
If
you
must
drive,
MnDOT
has
already
added
lanes
to
394
west
highway
62
and
will
be
adding
a
lane,
a
northbound
lane
from
31st
Street
on
I-94.
Excuse
me,
let
me
let
me
restate
that
and
we'll
be
adding
a
northbound
lane
from
31st
to
third
Street
on
I-35
W
min
pass
will
be
open
on
35
W
north
to
31st
Street
as
well.
This
will
help
ease
construction
through
the
construction
zone.
Excuse
me
ease
congestion
through
the
construction
zone.
However,
you
do
does
not
decide
to
get
through
the
construction.
A
E
Thank
you,
Jason

I'm

Te
ll
construction
season
is
a
challenging
time
for
both
motorists
and
construction
workers.
Motorist
gets
frustrated
because
of
the
long
delays
the
construction
workers
get
frustrated
because
people
are
speeding
through
the
construction
zone
or
disobeying
traffic
signs
in
the
construction
zone.
In
a
five-year
period
between
2012
and
2016,
we
had
41
people
killed
and
about
3900
people
injured
in
construction
zone
crashes.
E
In
2016
alone,
11
people
died
in
construction
zone
crashes
and
that's
the
most
since
2010
to
keep
workers
safe
and
keep
motorists
safe.
The
Minnesota
State
Patrol
is
going
to
continue
with
proactive,
routine
enforcement
in
the
construction
zones
and
you
will
be
cited
if
you're
disobeying
the
construction
zone,
traffic
laws
and
those
fines
can
be
up
to
$300.
E
Drivers
need
to
plan
ahead
due
to
the
congestion,
follow
the
posted
speed
limits.
The
posted
speed
limits
are
in
effect,
even
if
workers
are
not
present
utilize.
The
zipper
merge
people
think
it's
Minnesota
nice
to
move
over
quickly.
That's
not
the
case
in
a
construction
zone.
We
ask
that
you
use
the
zipper
merge
effectively
as
it
improves
traffic
flow.
E
Distracted
driving
is
one
of
the
leading
factors
in
crashes.
In
Minnesota,
drivers
should
be
100%
paying
attention
to
the
road,
especially
when
driving
through
a
construction
zone
expect
the
unexpected
wear
your
seatbelt
all
the
time,
no
matter
what
seat
you're
sitting
in
in
your
car
friends,
don't
let
friends,
drink
and
drive
plan
a
sober
ride.
If
you
are
planning
to
consume
alcohol,
these
simple
rules
not
only
protect
construction
workers,
but
alcohol
also
protect
the
motorists
on
our
highways.
Together
we
can
help
each
other
get
home
safe
every
day.
Thank
you.
A
Thank
you
captain
again,
we
do
recognize
that
this
work,
we're
doing,
does
have
a
significant,
significant
impact
on
travel.
So
the
last
message
we
leave
with
is
please
plan
ahead
when
you
do
travel,
make
a
new
connection.
Remember
that
better
roads
do
connect
us
all
to
jobs,
play
and
travel
in
this
area.
