This
structure
of
government
that
we
will
begin
said
that
we
are
setting
up
right
now
will
hold
multi-generational
impact,
but
for
this
moment
today
there
are
a
few
values
that
we
have
had
the
opportunity
to
bake
in
as
foundation
to
our
approach
as
mayor
and
as
a
person.
There
are
three
core
values
that
I
hold
dear.
A
The
first
is
we
tell
the
truth,
no
matter
what
no
matter,
how
difficult,
sometimes
the
truth
is
tough.
Sometimes
the
truth
suggests
a
bright
future,
regardless
the
truth
will
be
told.
Secondly,
we
do
the
right
thing
now.
The
right
thing
is
oftentimes
up
for
debate,
but
doing
the
right
thing
requires
that
we
engage
with
and
listen
to
the
broad
constituencies
that
we
have
throughout
our
entire
city.
A
The
third
thing
is
that
we
work
hard
to
quote
one
of
my
heroes
and
steve
prefontaine,
to
give
anything
less
than
your
best
is
to
sacrifice
the
gift.
Every
morning
I
and
our
department
head
standing
here
behind
me.
We
will
wake
up
with
the
goal
and
the
mission
of
doing
everything
within
our
capability
to
represent
the
residents
of
the
city
of
minneapolis,
to
make
it
a
better
place
for
them
to
live
and
to
work
and
to
make
sure
in
some
degree
we
can
make
our
city
a
happier
place
on
the
collective.
A
So
I've
convened
this
group,
this
leadership
group
this
morning
at
city
hall,
and
I
want
to
note
that
these
individuals
that
are
standing
here
behind
me
not
only
do
they
represent
and
work
for
the
residents
of
this
city,
but
they
also
represent
the
over
4
000
staff.
Members
that
work
with
passion
each
and
every
single
day
for
our
city.
A
A
I
consider
myself
so
fortunate
to
be
here
in
a
role
in
no
small
part
due
to
the
deep
talent
and
expertise
of
this
administration
of
these
people
that
are
standing
here,
department
heads
behind
me
and
of
the
extraordinary
staff
that
we
have
throughout
our
city
that
have
been
through
so
much
over
these
last
couple
of
years
and
throughout
this
transition
I'll
be
leaning
on
their
expertise.
More
than
ever,
because
the
decisions
that
we
make
over
the
next
several
weeks
and
months
will
have
long
lasting
impact
for
decades
and
generations
to
come.
A
This
is
an
exciting
and
serious
day
at
the
same
time
in
the
city
of
minneapolis,
and
I
just
wanted
to
acknowledge
the
the
profound
nature
of
this
particular
hour
with
that.
I
want
to
thank
all
of
you
for
being
here
and
I'll
open
it
to
questions.
A
A
If
it's
all
right,
if
we
can
answer
that,
I'm
happy
that
we're
happy
to
answer
that
question
as
well
and
happy
to
bring
the
chief
in,
but
if
I
wanted
to
first
focus
on
just
the
nature
of
the
structure
of
government.
First,
if
there
were
any
questions
on
that
topic
and
then
yes,
of
course,
we
can
suggest
it
department
heads,
I
think,
that's
fair.
A
Yep,
that's
a
fit,
that's
a
fair
point,
and
I
know
that
the
the
chief
and
I
are
are
discussing
the
matter
right
now
and
of
course
we
will
be
making
a
decision
and
lining
that
out
in
the
relatively
near
future.
Here
chief,
if
there's
anything
else,
you
want
to
add
please
go
ahead.
B
Good
morning,
thank
you
for
your
your
questions,
good,
to
see
you,
as
the
mayor
indicated,
we've
been
in
discussions
for
quite
some
time
now,
and
I
I
mentioned
earlier
publicly
that
it
was
important
for
me
to
have
some
intentional
conversations
with
my
dear
family
members
and
community
stakeholders,
and
but
my
plan
is
to
make
a
public
announcement
early
next
week.
