From YouTube: 2020 Election turnout press conference
Description
At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, Grace Wachlarowicz, the director of Minneapolis Election & Voter Services provided an update on the day’s voting.
A
I
did
a
press
conference
this
morning
at
5,
30
and
today
I
just
want
to
give
you
some
updates.
Very
positive
uneventful,
it
has
gone.
Very
smooth
lines
are
at
a
minimum.
Our
voters
are
being
served.
There
has
been
no
concern,
as
I
mentioned
this
morning,
we
had
a
record
amount
of
voters
that
have
already
passed
their
ballots,
which
was
166
961
ballots.
A
A
A
A
A
A
Okay,
if
I
can
paraphrase
it's
kind
of
hard
to
hear
with
the
mask,
so
if
you,
if
I
am
correct,
you
want
to
know
what
was
the
highest
day
of
returns
for
mail,
we
had
an
increase
of
mail
ballots
return
right
away
within
a
few
days
after
they
were
mailed
out.
A
As
far
as
early
voting,
it
has
been
steady
throughout
the
whole
time.
This
particular
site
was
open
on
september
18th,
I'm
losing
46
days
ago.
I
think
that
was
september
18th.
We
averaged
between
five
and
600
voters
per
day,
as
we
got
closer
within
the
last
the
last
two
weeks.
It
was
increasing
to
a
thousand
on
last
tuesday,
we
opened
our
direct
balloting,
which
we
included
our
urban
league
location
in
the
north
and
in
longfellow
in
the
south,
the
south,
and
this
location
was
averaging
about
1300
ballots.
A
day.
A
A
A
B
A
The
question
was:
what
are
the
demographics
and
you
caught
me
off
guard?
I
don't
have
those
information,
so
if
I
could
have
katie
quickly
grab
the
totals
for
the
award
that
we
presented
this
morning,
I
could
provide
it
off
the
top
of
my
head.
I
can
tell
you
that
traditionally,
our
southern
portion
of
the
city
tend
to
be
high
voter
turnout
and,
for
my
recollection,
it
was
approximately
55
to
60
percent
turnout
in
early
voting.
A
A
The
best
way
to
describe
that
is
for
the
primary.
We
saw
it
flipped
between
early
voting
and
election
day,
meaning
typically,
we
see
30
to
35
percent
of
early
voting,
either
in
person
and
mail
and
60
to
70
percent
on
election
day.
It's
completely
the
opposite,
so
we're
seeing
approximately
65
to
70
percent
early
voting
in
only
about
30
on
election.
C
A
A
A
A
The
fortunate
situation
I
am
thankful
of
is
where
we
were
in
a
situation
where
we
learned
about
the
pandemic.
In
march,
our
state
primary
was
august
and
now
our
state
election
here
now
in
november,
so
we
were
preparing
this
back
in
march,
we
were
ordering
our
protective
equipment.
A
We
were
already
working
with
our
partners,
the
school
district,
to
allow
us
to
use
their
facilities,
their
schools
on
election
day
with
no
children
there,
so
that
we
could
have
the
space
for
social
distancing
as
well
as
our
partners,
with
the
park
board
with
the
park
and
rex
park
and
recreation
centers
all
our
facilities.
We
worked
in
advance
to
ensure
that,
on
election
day,
we
were
the
only
ones
there
with
the
voters,
so
we
could
have
that
safe,
distancing.
A
That
was
huge
to
have
their
support
for
the
primary.
We
had
a
challenge
with
this
increase
of
mail
balloting
in
such
a
small
location,
with
increase
of
ballots
and
safely
distancing,
we
were
able
to
work
with
our
with
mcc,
where
we
are
at
the
convention
center
spaced
out
the
sufficient
staff
to
process
all
these
absentee
ballots.
A
There
was
a
slight
slowdown
with
our
electronic
pull
pads
just
uploading
because
of
the
large
volume
of
absentee
records
that
had
to
be
updated
so
that
we
could
open,
but
that
was
minor.
It
did
not
impact
us
from
opening
at
7
am
and
serving
voters.
A
The
question
is:
was
there
any
issues
with
the
doj?
I
honestly
don't
know
we
have
had
no
contact,
no
conversation.
They
are
just
like
any
other
organization
that
are
beyond
the
100
foot
buffer
zone.
