Minneapolis Public Works helps event goers have a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl LII experience
A
When
Minneapolis
learned
that
it
was
hosting
Super,
Bowl
50
to
Minneapolis
city
staff,
including
my
colleagues
and
I
in
public
works,
immediately
kicked
into
our
planning
mode
because
for
a
big
event
like
this,
it
takes
a
lot
of
planning
in
order
to
help
our
visitors
here,
move
safely
between
the
venues.
We've
done
a
lot
of
things
in
public
works.
We
changed
the
timing
and
operation
of
our
traffic
lights.
A
We've
set
up
special
pedestrian
access
ways
and
we
work
with
our
partners
and
Public
Safety
has
set
up
a
clear
path
for
people
to
get
from
point
to
point.
You
never
know,
what's
going
to
happen
on
any
given
night
and
the
nights
where
we
have
a
really
big
crowd.
We
need
to
be
really
responsive
and
flexible
and
be
willing
to
change
our
game
plan
to
accommodate.
What's
happening
that
night,
the
city's
still
open
for
business.
A
We
need
to
make
sure
the
traffic
keeps
moving
at
the
same
time
we're
accommodating
thousands
and
thousands
of
pedestrians
along
knit
the
mall.
So
it's
quite
a
balancing
act.
We
do
to
make
sure
that
we
served
all
the
modes
in
a
safe
and
efficient
manner
when
city
crews
are
on
site.
We
keep
our
eyes
open
for
what's
happening,
we're
looking
for
the
pedestrian
flow,
looking
for
any
bottlenecks
or
pinch
points,
and
we
quickly
respond
to
make
sure
that
it's
efficient
and
safe
for
people
to
get
in
and
around
the
site.
