Description
Ward 3 Oklahoma City Councilman Larry McAtee talks Thunder Basketball with play-by-play announcer Brian Davis.
A
B
A
B
B
Exactly
right
was
born
in
Baltimore
lived
there
till
I
was
13,
but
my
dad
was
in
the
container
shipping
business,
so
we
got
transferred
to
the
Port
Elizabeth
when
I
was
in
ninth
grade,
so
I
went
to
high
school
in
New,
Providence
and
I.
Those
were
great
times,
I
Love
New
Jersey,
you
know,
but
but
we
also
have
found
very
much
found
a
home
here
in
Oklahoma
City.
It's
going
to
be
well
traveled,
though
right
right.
B
This
is
my
seventh
hometown.
My
dad
got
transferred
a
couple
of
times
when
I
was
younger,
Judy's
dad
got
transferred
once
and
then
we
met
in
school
in
Chicago,
and
then
the
broadcasting
business
has
taken
us
to
a
few
places.
So
and
one
of
the
things
that
we've
learned
is
that
no
matter
where
you
are
there's
something
everywhere
that
you
can
enjoy
that
you
can
appreciate
for
us
here.
Well,
they're,
actually
a
lot
of
things
in
Oklahoma
City,
but
the
thing
for
us
number,
one:
the
people,
the.
B
He
gets
it
okay,
so
his
dad
was
a
was
a
big
wig
with
the
Alumni
Association
back
when
it
was
still
Oklahoma
am
so
so
he's
orange.
Okay,
we're
not
going
to
we're
not
a
week
it.
We
can't
shade
that,
but
when
I
was
offered
the
job
here
in
the
fall
of
two
thousand,
eight
I
called
Phil
from
the
airport
on
my
way
back
to
Seattle
and
I
said
you'll,
never
guess
where
I
think
we're
moving
and
I
told
him.
He
said
all
he
says:
you're
gonna,
love
it
and
I
said.
B
Why
tell
me
why
he
says
the
people
he
says
they
will
give
you
the
shirt
off
their
back
in
the
closet.
It
came
out
of
and
he's
been
absolutely
right.
Judy
and
I
have
made
incredibly
close
friends
here,
more
really
than
we
ever
have
in
any
single
stop
in
our
lives,
and
we
were
in
Chicago
for
27
years.
B
Yeah
they
have
a
little
bit
of
a
different
lifestyle.
Players
live
here,
of
course,
during
the
season,
so
that's
eight
or
nine
months
out
of
the
year,
but
a
lot
of
guys
will
go
back
and,
and
the
rule
is
they'll
go
back
to
where
they
played
their
college
ball
because
all
the
alumni
from
that
program
get
together
and
they
hang
out
in
the
summertime
and
they
play.
You
know
the
huge
contingent
you
know
Westbrook
goes
back
to
UCLA
and
those
guys
all
hang
out
it.
B
You
know
on
the
campus
at
UCLA,
the
Texas
guys
go
back
to
Texas
and
and
so
and
because
the
season
is
so
intense,
that's
everybody's
fun
time.
That's
our
release
time
and
the
players
get
out,
they
travel.
Maybe
they
got
a
summer
place,
but
but
I
think
one
of
the
things
that
they
feel
when
they're
here
is
this
sort
of
the
admiration,
the
respect
I've
heard
a
lot
of
stories
about
players
being
in
restaurants
or
being
in
stores
and
people
give
them
their
space.
B
Hey
I'll
sign
for
you,
but
would
you
mind
waiting
until
after
I'm
done
eating
and
and
what
I
hear
from
our
guys
here
and
the
stories
I
hear
from
from
friends
in
town?
Is
that
that
folks
here
tend
to
give
them
that
space
right
up
front
which
again
sets
oklahoma
city
apart?
I
think
from
a
lot
of
other
places
sets.
A
B
When
you
look
at
the
changes
in
this
team
and
the
thunder
had
six
new
players,
plus
in
Josh
Huestis,
a
guy
who
played
five
NBA
games
last
year,
so
that's
basically
half
your
team
and
so
there's
always
kind
of
a
1-up
period,
there's
kind
of
a
gel
period
and
and
mixing
and
matching
one
figuring
out
who
likes
the
ball.
Where
and
you
know,
if
I,
if
I
defend
this
way
on
a
play
or
if
he
defends
this
one
to
play.
B
Where
do
I
need
to
be
there's
all
that
kind
of
stuff,
and
so
so
the
Thunder
is
is
in
that
kind
of
react,
lemay
shin
period.
But
what
I
like
about
the
way
the
team
is
playing
that
Boston
game
was
the
seventh
time
this
year.
The
Thunder
has
trailed
in
the
fourth
quarter
and
has
come
back
to
win
a
ballgame
by
far
and
away
that's
the
most
in
the
NBA.
Now
fans
would
probably
sound
like
maybe
you'd
like
them
a
little.
B
You
know
you
like
a
10
or
15
20
point
win
every
now
and
then,
or
maybe
more
often
people
we're
relaxing
I
bet.
You
know
the
fact
of
the
matter
is
that
the
that
that
the
ability
to
come
back
and
win
those
games,
a
good
measure
of
any
good
team
is,
what's
your
record
in
close
games.
My
measure
is
always
two-possession
games.
You
know
games
decided
by
six
points
or
less
and
and
the
Thunder
has
historically
been
good
in
those
two-possession
games.
B
So
the
fact
that
the
Thunder
again
to
use
the
boston
game
as
an
example,
the
fact
that
the
Thunder
can
struggle
and
first
half
and
score
only
39
points
between
come
out
in
the
second
half
and
score
60,
and
when
you
have
a
player
like
Russell
Westbrook.
Of
course
you
know
that
that
makes
life
easier
because
you've
got
a
guy
who
can
really
kind
of
take
over
in
a
moment.
But
what
I
liked
about
the
boston
game
was
right.
At
the
end,
it's
a
two-point
game.
Russell
wins
a
tip.
B
He
knocks
the
ball
across
half-court
semaj
Christon
gathers.
The
ball
plays
smart
Boston's,
trying
to
foul
samaja,
avoids
and
finds
team
at
Adams
in
middle
rule,
for
Stephen
sees
Jeremy
grant
wide
open
underneath
the
basket
for
the
200
sledgehammer.
That
puts
the
game
out
of
reach
the
way
that
Billy
Donovan
wants
this
team
to
play,
and
he
is
a
system
guy
and
I
think
that
that
will
really
accrue
in
time
in
a
way
that
everybody
can
see
it.
B
But
Billy
wants
the
offense
to
run
so
that
an
any
given
moment
any
one
of
the
five
players
on
the
floor
can
score
that
big
basket.
Now
he
wants
that
predicated
on
defense.
You
defend
you
get
stops
you
force
turnovers,
you
get
out
and
you
run
that
makes
your
offense
a
little
bit
easier.
But
when
you're
playing
half
court
offense
Billy
wants
the
ball
to
move
players
to
move
screen
cut.
Do
the
dirty
work
off
the
ball
so
that
you
know
in
the
end,
you
pull
the
defense
apart.
B
You
either
have
a
good
look
for
a
jump
shot
or
you
got
a
wide
driving
lane
to
the
30
wide
open
lane
to
the
rim
and
and-
and
that
is
the
kind
of
style
of
ball-
that
we
are
seeing.
This
team
develop
and
I
think
that's
going
to
be
a
real
good
thing.
We
get
to
game
82
and
looking
into
the
playoffs.
Now.
B
Well,
a
lot
of
the
teams
the
Thunder
saw
coming
out
of
the
all-star
break,
were
those
elite,
caliber
teams
and
and
all
of
a
sudden
were
getting
beat.
But
that
was
what
Billy
and
the
coaching
staff
needed
to
be
able
to
go
back
to
the
guys
and
say
this
is
what
we're
talking
about
and
and
then
message
received
and
from
that
point
on
the
Thunder
got
its
feet
set
particularly
started.
Improving
its
performance
of
the
defensive
end
started
beating
those
elites
and,
of
course,
made
that
run
to
the
Western
Conference
Finals.
B
So
if
the
Thunder
this
year
can
follow
that
same
arc
of
improvement
from
game,
1
2
game,
82
I
learned
a
long
time
ago,
I
was,
I
was
forced
because
I'd
embarrassed
myself
so
many
times,
I
got
out
of
the
prediction
business
a
long
time
ago.
But
if
the
Thunder
can
follow
that
same
mark
of
improvement
to
the
end
of
this
regular
season
and
then
get
into
the
playoffs,
I
will
say:
I'll
use
the
cliche
anything
can
happen.
That's.
A
An
interesting
term
mark
of
improvement
and
we
experienced
that
with
my
granddaughter
last
night.
She
was
up
in
loud
city
enjoying
the
game
until
we
got
so
far
behind
toward
the
end.
We
were
eight
points
behind
and
she
kind
of
got
discouraged
and
turned
to
her
mother
and
said:
there's
no
hope
really
and
her
mother
said
just
sit
back
and
watch
what
the
guys
do
yeah
and
it
was
an
arc
and
improvement
in
performance,
because
the
next
thing
we
knew
we
were
doing
that
play
that
you
were
talking
about
there
and
went
in
the
game.
B
You
never
give
up
on
big
blue
that
one
of
the
things
too,
that
has
stood
out
as
a
thread
in
these
comeback
victories
is
that
you
know
team
may
shoot
the
ball
well
all
night,
long
against
us,
but
at
crunch
time
the
Thunder
really
screws
it
up
defensively.
You
know
they
turn
up
there.
They
turn
the
screws,
they
turn
up
the
heat
defensively
and
an
Oklahoma
City
a
quarter
through
the
season.
If
you
look
at
the
numbers,
opponents
shooting
percentages
and
what
they
score
in
the
fourth
quarter,
the
Thunder
is
the
best
in
the
league.
A
B
B
Resilience,
you
know
you
might
take
a
shot
and
wind
up
on
your
backside,
but
you
get
up
your
dust
off
your
fanny
and
you
keep
going
the
goal
for
the
Thunder.
This
season
is
the
same
as
it's
been
since
day,
one
in
Oklahoma,
City
and
that
is
to
win
a
championship
and-
and
there
are
going
to
be
things
players
will
come,
players
will
go,
there
will
be
injuries.
B
Sometimes
you
got
to
be
a
little
bit
lucky
and
the
thunder
had
some
tough
luck
with
injuries
for
a
couple
of
years
there,
but
last
year
only
lost
28
man
games
to
injury,
and
that
was
one
of
the
things
that
allowed
us
to
get
so
deep
in
the
playoffs
as
we
did.
But
but
the
mission
remains
the
same
and
the
characters
may
change
and
coach
Donovan
and
his
staff
may
have
a
different
group
to
work
with.
B
So
they
got
to
find
different
buttons
to
push,
but
but
they
will
continue
to
fight,
find
the
right
combinations,
the
right
style
of
play.
They
will
continue
to
work
to
put
the
players
in
the
best
position
that
they
can
so
that
they
got
a
chance
to
succeed,
because
the
bottom
line
remains
the
same.
A
championship
is
the
goal
of
this
organization.
B
Would
agree
with
that,
and
you
know
if
you
study
the
history
of
this
town,
you
know
30
35
years
ago.
You
know
the
joke
was
with
the
last
person
to
leave.
Please
turn
out
the
lights.
You
know
you
and
when
you
see
the
way
that
this
city
has
rebounded
from
that
in
this
region,
I'm
so
impressed,
we
came
here
in
2008
and
and
I
remember
looking
at
Broadway
automobile
alley
and
it
was
kind
of
quiet
down
there.
In
fact,
there's
a
little
shop
opened
up
and
I
thought
boy,
he'll
never
make
it.
B
Since
we
have
been
here
Larry,
it's
remarkable,
it
is
a
once-in-a-lifetime
experience,
something
like
we
have
an
Oklahoma
City.
You
get
to
experience
that
once
in
a
lifetime
and
I'm
just
so
impressed
in
them,
so
so
pleased
to
be
here
and
so
proud
to
be
able
to
call
myself
an
Oklahoman
and
a
resident
of
Oklahoma
City
Brian.
A
Thank
you
for
taking
time
again
to
come
down
and
share
your
enthusiasm,
your
insight,
your
experience,
you
heard
it
here
folks,
we've
got
a
lot
going
here
in
Oklahoma
City,
despite
the
challenges,
let's
bond
together,
let's
make
tomorrow
a
better
day
than
today.
May
God
bless
each
of
you
during
this
holiday
season
and
Brian
again,
thank
you
for
coming
down
and
I.
