21:24 - The Criterion, a new music venue in Oklahoma City
A
And
hello,
there
welcome
to
the
mayor's
magazine:
I'm
Mick
Cornett,
the
mayor
of
Oklahoma
City,
and
this
is
our
program
for
March
2016.
We're
going
to
start
in
this
first
segment
to
talk
about
allied
arts,
a
wonderful
nonprofit
that
does
so
much
to
raise
the
attention
of
arts,
support
the
arts
and
also
gets
into
our
schools
and
supports
a
lot
of
educational
programs.
We
have
our
co-chairs
with
us
today,
karen
delaney
and
Michael
Laird,
thanks
for
coming
on
the
mayor's
magazine,
our.
A
C
C
A
Because
the
the
school's,
it
seems
to
me,
have
diminished
in
many
ways
the
level
of
arts
education
in
a
lot
of
the
programming
I.
Think
we've
made
some
good
inroads
here
in
the
last
few
years
and
kind
of
gotten
it
back
plugged
in
but
I.
Think
allied
arts
is
kind
of
helped
with
that
cause
Karen.
Why
are
the
arts
importance
to
education
and
why
do
our
kids
need
to
have
a
better
understanding
and
appreciation
of
the
arts?
Well,.
B
B
I
helped
her
do
an
all
access
arts
program,
which
is
part
of
the
Arts
Council
one
of
our
member
agencies
and
that
enabled
approximately
25
children
after
school
to
have
access
to
the
arts
and
the
importance
of
that
and
was
for
them
to
develop
confidence,
but
they
also
discover
their
own
talents,
and
we
had
one
young
student
called
dynasty
and
dynasty
discovered
that
she
was
an
amazing
artist,
and
this
year
my
daughter
is
helping
her
apply
to
class
in
school
of
the
arts.
Wow.
B
So
kids,
who
participate
in
the
arts,
are,
you
know,
four
times
more
likely
to
participate
in
a
math
or
science
class.
There
are
three
times
more
likely
to
win
a
school
attendance
in
high
school
there,
the
dropout
rate
for
kids,
who
participate
in
the
arts
as
four
percent
as
compared
to
twenty-two
percent.
If
they
don't
participate
in
the
arts,
it
gives
them
an
anger
for
many,
it's
a
and
escape
from
their
everyday
lives.
For
those
who
are
more
fortunate,
they
may
be
studying
math
and
science.
C
A
C
Yeah
prospect,
yes,
I
think
we
are
all
sensing
that
the
obvious
reasons
in
the
industry,
the
oil
and
gas
industry,
but
also
the
general
impacts
of
that
across
the
board
in
the
economy.
It's
vibrant,
as
Oklahoma
City,
is,
and
will
continue
to
be,
there
still
going
to
be
serious
challenges
when
people
who
have
been
on
our
donor
base,
I
have
to
have
to
retrench
have
to
pull
back,
so
this
year
will
absolutely
be
the
most
challenging
the
year
we've
faced
at
least
since
2009
need.
C
We
need
that
we
need
broader
pool.
We
need
to
broaden
the
awareness
of
those
people
that
arts,
education
and
arts
for
the
community
are
not
an
add-on.
They
really
are
a
prerequisite
to
continuing
to
expand
the
viability
of
this
community
and
to
make
it
again
one
of
those
shining
places
on
the
hill
yeah.
A
Once
the
country,
when
you
start
talking
about
the
quality
of
a
community
and
the
quality
of
life
in
a
community,
you
don't
have
to
get
too
far
down
the
list
before
you
get
to
the
arts,
I
mean
you
could
start
with
public
safety
or
things
like
that,
but
things
to
do,
but
the
art,
the
arts
are
Oh
integral
in
a
community's
perception
of
itself
and
to
outsiders
who
might
visit,
there's
also
economic
development
with
arts.
What
you
want
to
wants
to
expound
on
that.
C
Well,
I
think
we
both
could
actually
there's
about
that
experience
of
that,
but
I'll
speak
just
quickly.
It
is
there's
no
question
that
what
it
does
and
the
data
is
clear
and
it's
consistent.
It's
consistent
all
across
the
country
is
the
art
create
jobs,
they
create
synergies,
they
create
environments,
that
incubate
people
and
values
and
importance
and
commerce,
and
all
those
things
are
incredibly
important
to
a
fiber
community
like
Oklahoma,
City
and.
A
B
I
mean
I
moved
here
14
years
ago
from
the
New
York
metropolitan
area
and
I
was
delighted
to
find
that
we
had
an
art
museum
that
was
beautiful.
The
other
thing
that
was
really
exciting
for
me
to
find
out
was
that
we
have
a
film
festival
and
that
film
festival
is
now
15
years
old.
That
brings
people
in
from
Los
Angeles
really
from
all
over
the
world,
because
dead
center
film
festival
gets
over
one
thousand
submissions,
it
creates
awareness
of
Oklahoma
City.
The
people
who
have
come
here
and
visited
are
very
pleased
and
surprised.
B
A
B
Aiken
donate
there
as
well
and
it's
important
we
want
to
let
you
know
that
fifty
dollars
will
get
you
an
Oklahoma.
Oh
ok,
city
card,
it's
called
and
it
gives
you
discounts
to
entertainment
venues,
restaurants
to
over
400
members,
and
once
you
buy
that
for
fifty
dollars,
you
can
take
that
card
anywhere.
You
can
get
two-for-one
tickets
to
lyric,
theater
to
Oklahoma
City
Ballet,
a
two-for-one
tickets
to
the
state
fair.
So
it's
a
really
great
bargainer.
C
C
A
A
And
good
luck
and
in
the
Allied
Arts
campaign
and
I
know
you
guys
are
going
to
do
well
and
I
know:
Oklahoma
City
will
respond,
we'll
keep
you
posted
on
that
and
I
urge
everyone
out
there
in
the
audience
to
check
out
the
website
information
and
be
a
part
of
the
Allied
Arts
charitable
giving
campaign
this
spring
and
those
ok
city
cards
are
a
very
valuable
commodity
themselves,
so
check
it
out.
Won't
you
again
that
that
website
information
is
ok,
w.
D
Come
free
yet
con
free,
yet
it's
the
harmonious
marriage
of
free
and
convenient
and
it's
the
perfect
word
to
describe
the
mobile
app
from
oklahoma
city
utilities.
Customer
service
division,
download
it
free
today
and
manage
your
okc
utility
account
on
the
go.
You
can
check
your
bill
on
your
smart
phone
or
device
and
pay
your
bill
on
the
run
anywhere
anytime
free
app,
convenient
access.
It
doesn't
get
more
convenient
than
that
download
the
okc
utilities
app
today.
The
confluent
way
to
manage
your
oklahoma
city
utility
account.
A
A
E
E
E
E
E
Everywhere,
we've
completed
phase
one
in
two
packages:
one
Northwind
south
and
we've
got
phase
two.
That's
it's
under
construction,
nearing
completion
phase
three.
We
just
have
to
finish
them
right
away
issues
and
that
will
be
out
in
phase
4
is
in
design
right
now.
So
we
have
a
lot
under
construction.
We
have
a
lot
more
to
come
and.
E
River
trail
starts
at
10th
and
Eagle
lane,
which
connects
right
there
with
the
Overholser
trail,
and
then
it
just
follows
the
river
all
the
way
down
through
the
crystal
lake
area
and
then
gets
goes
across
council
road
macarthur
and
then
joins
with
the
existing
trail
at
meridian
at
the
meridian
landing
area
there.
So.
E
E
Is
we
are
in
land
acquisition?
We
hope
to
have
that
completed
in
the
next
couple
of
months
by
this
summer
will
be
under
construction,
and
that's
the
I-44
trail
that
will
go
from
the
the
Hefner
area,
where
the
existing
trails
are
there
at
Meridian
and
will
kind
of
circumnavigate
through
all
the
the
neighborhoods
through
there,
but
essentially
along
the
I-44
corridor
and
cross
at
sixteenth,
go
through
the
State
Fair
properties,
then
down
my
Avenue
and
connect
back
with
the
river
also
and.
A
A
E
E
E
Is
under
construction
right
now?
It's
not
what
you'd
recognize
this
as
a
park.
It's
it's
all
the
infrastructure
that
supports
the
park
or
that
had
to
be
moved
because
of
the
part.
You'll
see
ninety-two
inch,
concrete,
pipe,
that's
down
there
on
seventh
Street
and
30
inch
water
lines
and
all
kinds
of
of
private
communication
lines
that
are
being
moved.
But,
as
you
said,
it
is
under
construction
and
started.
A
All
right,
David
Todd,
helping
us
with
our
Maps
three
projects
and
2016.
Remember
is
a
big
year,
the
max
the
maps
Expo
Center,
the
expansion
out
of
the
fairgrounds
with
a
new
Expo
Center,
and
also
our
first
senior
wellness
center,
all
under
construction.
So
it's
a
big
year,
I
hope
you'll
partake
and
as
many
of
the
opening
ceremonies
as
you
can
and
we'll
have
more
on
the
mayor's
magazine
right
after
this.
F
Hi
guys
I'm
Anna
standard
form
of
the
Oklahoma
City
Thunder.
We
here
today
in
animal
shelter
when
I
was
kidding
turkey,
you
know
I
have
a
lot
of
you
know.
I
had
cast
a
lot
of
birds
and
fish,
but
I.
Never
you
know.
I
had
a
dog
before
now,
I'm
like
thinking
about
adopting
an
animal
he's
getting
more
with
OKC
animal
welfare
and
get
involved,
adopt
and
volunteer
like
I,
am.
G
In
November
we
kind
of
instituted
it
finally,
our
music
program
at
the
airport,
it's
something
that
we've
been
working
towards
for
a
long
time,
so
we
were
finally
able
to
kick
it
off
and
it's
been
extremely
successful.
We've
got
live
performances
every
Thursday
and
Friday
in
the
public
on
courses,
and
then
we
have
partnered
with
our
food
concessionaire
who
is
also
performing
having
performances
in
their
restaurants
and
lounges,
and.
G
We're
kind
of
we
are
public
space,
so
you
know
we're
trying
to
do
various
different
types,
but
we've
got
a
lot
of
classical
a
lot
of
jazz.
You
know
soft
raw
kind
of
things,
and
but
we
want
to
kind
of
expand
that
eventually
there's
so
many
different
types
of
music
and
there's
so
many
incredible
artists
in
the
city
that
we'd
like
to
see
a
lot
of
different
kinds
of
music
represented
as
this
program
grows
and.
G
Month
is
in
particular,
we
are
the
whole
month.
All
the
performances
for
on
our
public
stage
will
be
musicians
from
the
skull
and
it's
great
to
not
only
promote
those
musicians
but
to
promote
the
school
at
the
same
time.
So
I
think
that's
a
really
exciting
thing,
and
it
also
leads
us
to
the
opportunities
to
do
other.
You
know
partnerships
or
you
know
when
we
have
jazz
festivals
or
what
you
know.
There
are
other
kinds
of
theme,
kinds
of
things
that
we
could
do
so
I
think
as
the
program
grows,
it'll
be
really
exciting
and.
A
When
visitors
come
to
Oklahoma
City,
you
know,
there's
there
they're
going
to
develop
a
perception
they're
going
to
walk
away
with
an
image
of
what
Oklahoma
City
is
about
and
in
some
ways
you're.
The
first
person
and
the
last
person
that
they
may
see
and
that
experience
may
may
/
may
outweigh
a
traditional
experience
and
might
change
the
way
they
feel
about
our
city.
So
why.
G
Is
all
this
important?
Well
absolutely
I
mean
we
always
want
to
improve
the
traveler
experience
or
visitor
experience,
and
music
is
part
of
that,
and
so
not
it
just
makes
your
visit
here
better
and
that's
what
we
want
people
to
think
of
Oklahoma
City
and
when
we
designed
the
stage
the
the
name
of
the
program
is
jet
sets
and
when
we
designed
our
public
stage,
we
were
very
careful
to
make
sure
that
there
was
a
real
identity
with
Oklahoma
City.
G
So
when
you
walk
by
that
stage,
you
see
iconic
images,
graphic
images
of
places
in
Oklahoma,
City
devon
tower
the
myriad
gardens
OKC
Thunder.
You
know
all
of
those
things,
so
you
associate
those
to
music
and
the
city,
and
that's
your
first
impression
and
that's
what
we
hope
will
get
people
excited
about
being
here
in
our
city.
One.
G
Consolidated
rental
car
facility
is
finally
open.
It's
been
a
long
project.
I
know
people
been
driving
by
it
for
months
now
and
we've
relocated
all
of
the
rental
cars
that
were
in
the
terminal
building
to
this
new
facility,
and
one
of
the
reasons
that
we
had
to
construct
this
facility
is
that
the
demand
for
rental
cars
was
just
growing
phenomenally.
We
had
a
space
for
450
cars.
Our
average
daily
demand
is
like
600
cars,
so
we
needed
to
be
able
to
accommodate
all
of
those
those
rental
car
renters.
So
it
is
a
new
facility.
G
It's
beautiful
facility.
We've
got
a
beautiful
piece
of
public
art,
that's
actually
integrated
into
the
building
when
you
walk
through
it
and
I
think
it
will
take
I
think
some
customers
a
little
bit
of
getting
used
to
because
they
will
have
to
take
a
bus
to
the
facility.
Now
it's
only
three
and
a
half
minutes,
but
once
they
get
there,
I
think
the
customer
experience
will
be
so
much
proved
that
it
will
be
they'll,
enjoy
and
appreciate
it
is
it.
G
We
were
down
a
little
bit
for
2015
and
you
know
the
year
before
2014
we
had
it
like
a
record
year.
We
we
had
more
employments
that
we
had
ever
had
an
employment
is
the
measure
of
people
getting
on
a
plane,
but
we
were
down
last
year
a
little
bit
and
we
recognize
that
this
is
a
cyclical
industry.
We
look
at
our
10-year
average
on
employments
and
it
kind
of
goes
up
and
down
a
little
bit.
But
when
you
look
at
the
ten
years
as
a
whole,
the
trajectory
is
still
up.
G
G
A
G
H
You
know
that
the
arts
make
a
significant
impact
on
education,
the
economy
and
our
quality
of
life
in
Oklahoma,
providing
more
than
10,000
jobs,
statewide
filtering
more
than
314
million
dollars
into
our
economy.
Yes,
the
arts
create
all
kinds
of
beautiful
things
and
making
Oklahoma
an
even
better
place
to
live
is
the
most
beautiful
thing
of
all.
It
doesn't
take
a
big
donation
to
make
big
things
happen,
support
allied
arts
today,
a
little
give
is
all
it
takes.
Welcome.
A
Back
to
the
mayor's
magazine,
you
may
not
know
it,
but
a
brand
new
music
venue
is
opening
downtown.
The
criterion
theatre
might
be
a
familiar
named.
Some
of
you
old-timers
in
Oklahoma
City
like
myself,
but
it
is
a
brand
new
facility.
That's
fairly
large
and
Scott
Marsh
is
the
COO.
This
organization
he's
coming
to
talk
about
it.
Welcome
to
the
mayor's
magazine
thanks.
I
Started
in
the
management
business,
so
I
had
an
artist
that
started
managing
from
Stillwater
originally,
and
we
had
a
lot
of
success
and
toured
around
the
country
and
that
kind
of
became
the
start
of
what
I
thought
would
be
a
music
career
and
then
from
there.
I'm
at
the
the
gentleman
who
owned
our
parent
company
level
and
productions,
and
they
talked
me
into
working
with
them
and
in
the
rest,
is
history
yeah
well,.
I
I
It's
it's
one
main
performance
venue
inside,
but
the
way
we
built
it,
it's
very
versatile,
so
you
can
move
it
around.
You
can
make
you
can
lower
the
lights
and
bring
in
the
curtains
and
everything
to
make
it
kind
of
a
more
intimate
setting.
If
you
want
to
do
a
smaller
show-
or
you
can,
you
know
open
everything
up,
raise
everything
up
to
its
ceiling
heights
and
do
a
larger
four
thousand
seats
show
this.
I
A
I
We've
all
been
we're
all
we
all
live
here
and
we've
all
been
fans
of
oklahoma
city
in
oklahoma,
city,
music
scene
and
have
all
been
heavily
involved
in
that
scene
for
quite
some
time,
so
the
idea
came
of
basically,
you
know.
Why
does
everybody
skip
over
Oklahoma
City?
Why
do
these
artists
go
from
Kansas
City
to
Dallas?
Why
does
Tulsa
get
some
of
the
artists
they
get
and
it
came
down
to?
I
So
you
know
we
all
love
downtown
Oklahoma
City.
Obviously
we
felt
it
was
a
very
important
location
because
it
brought
you
know
Norman
into
the
mix,
even
Shawnee
Edmond
Guthrie,
it
kind
of
became
a
central
location
for
everybody
to
pull
in
from
from
outside
of
Oklahoma
City
and
then
also
was
an
easy
destination
with
hotels,
parking
restaurants.
We
just
really
felt
like
we
could
increase
what
bricktown
in
downtown
Oklahoma
City
is,
while
also
allowing
ourselves
to
be
in
a
location
that
just
kind
of
worked
for
everyone.
So.
A
I
Than
likely
it'll
be
one
to
two
times
a
week
and
it
just
kind
of
depends
on
the
artist
touring
schedule,
but
you
can
look
for
anywhere
between
four
to
even
eight
shows
a
month
on,
just
depending
on
you
know
what
time
of
year,
when
everybody's
touring
things
like
that,
so
it'll
be
your
round
event.
We're
also
going
to
do
some
other
things.
I
I
A
I
You
know
we're
we're
big
fans
of
a
CML
acms
brought
here
and
helping
create
a
musical
identity
for
Oklahoma
City.
So
we
would
love
to
to
be
able
to
work
with
them
as
close
as
possible,
and
within
that
we've
been
able
to
develop
certain
relationships
where
we
bring
in
internship
programs
into
our
company.
We
hire
you
know.
Obviously
anybody
with
that
experience
has
a
leg
up
in
the
hiring
process
and
we
work
to
hire
people
who've
graduated
from
there
and
offer
an
actual.
You
know,
music
development
program
within
them
and
there's.
A
I
The
tower
theater
you
know
is
this
is
a
smaller
venue,
but
obviously
has
of
history-
everybody's
driven
by
it
for
years
in
northwich,
2033,
Northwest
23rd.
It's
going
to
be
about
a
thousand
to
1200
people
fully
seated
747,
and
we
look
to
do
also
a
mixed-use
there.
Where
we'll,
where
we
want
to
really
involve
that
venue
in
the
community,
because
it
is
so
community-based.
I
We
want
to
bring
in
theater
we're
actually
talking
with
several
universities
about
doing
their
theater
department's,
bringing
in
the
theater
to
to
downtown
Oklahoma
City
as
well,
and
also
being
able
to
do
musical
acts
and
then
bring
back
the
the
actual
theater
filled
with
the
community.
We
want
to
start
doing
community
based
movies,
where
we
show
them
for
free
and
just
bring
everybody
in
and
kind
of,
let
people
you
know
on
a
great
sunday
afternoon
experience
a
great
movie
of
different
genres
throughout.
I
I
First
criterion
performance
is
going
to
be
March
26th
with
Ben
Rector
who's,
an
Oklahoma
native.
We
felt
it
was
important
to
kind
of
Chris
in
the
venue
with
it
with
a
fellow
Oklahoman,
so
we
brought
him
in
tickets,
are
on
sale,
they've
been
going
great,
I
think
it'll
be
our
first
show
will
be
a
first
sellout,
so
I
think
it's
going
to
be
a
really
great
evening
and.
