Description
Ward 3 Councilman Larry McAtee gets a progress report on the MAPS Senior Wellness Centers with MAPS 3 Board Chairman Tom McDaniel AND MAPS Program Manager David Todd.
B
We're
we're
on
the
home
stretch
in
maps.
Three
you'll
recall
that
this
was
approved
in
2009
and
we
started
on
the
citizens
advisory
board
in
the
spring
of
2010,
and
the
first
thing
we
did
was
to
develop
a
an
implementation
plan
because,
as
you
are
so
well
aware,
is
one
of
the
architects
of
maps.
This
was
pay-as-you-go.
B
So
this
implementation
plan
kind
of
gave
us
a
road
map
for
which
product
which
project
would
be
done
in
what
order,
and
as
we
waited
for
the
money
to
come
in,
because
we
couldn't
let
a
contract
on
anything
so
that
provided
kind
of
a
plan
for
us
to
do
the
the
senior
wellness
centers
and
we
had
planned
from
the
start
to
do
at
least
four
senior
wellness
centers
and
it
turned
out
to
be
quite
a
project
for
us
because
there
weren't
any
senior
wellness
centers
here.
So
we
looked
other
places.
B
B
So
that
process
took
longer
than
we
thought,
but
ultimately
we
did
find
an
operator
for
the
up
in
the
northwest
quadrant
of
town
and
we
built
the
first
one
there.
The
second
one
has
been
completed
near
Capitol,
Hill,
High
School
on
the
south
side,
and
we
now
have
operators
for
both
three
and
four
number.
B
Three
is
going
to
be
operated
by
Langston
University
and
be
in
the
northeast
quadrant,
and
then
the
fourth
one
will
be
operated
by
the
YMCA
and
it's
going
to
be
generally
in
the
southwest
quadrant
and
though
there
are
exact
locations
that
David
can
tell
you
the
addresses
of
them
and
where
they
are
but
two
are
completed,
and
we
have
operators
for
all
of
them
and
they're
in
various
stages
of
planning
and
will
be
ready
to
go
out
for
bids
this
year.
Wow.
B
C
C
So
the
one
up
Northwest
has
some
clinic
space,
but
a
lot
of
workout
areas
and
a
lot
of
meeting
rooms
and
things
like
that,
whereas
the
one
in
in
the
Capitol
Hill
area,
they
wanted
to
focus
more
on
some
clinic
space,
so
they
have
nine
clinic
rooms,
nine
exam
rooms
and
a
full
pharmacy
in
there.
So
we
have
the
same
budget
for
each
of
them
so
that
reduced
a
little
bit
of
some
of
the
workout
areas.
C
There
was
a
trade-off
of
exercise
versus
clinic
kind
of
space,
but
then,
as
we
look
at
three
and
four
they're
kind
of
going
to
be
a
combination
again
of
some
of
that,
depending
on
what
the
the
operators
want
to
do,
Langston
is
connecting
that
with
with
their
occupational
therapy
program,
to
do
some
things
with
the
kids
that
can
come
in
there
and
do
some
of
that.
I
I
think
that
wellness
for
in
southwest
Oklahoma
City
will
be
very
similar
to
wellness
one
with
a
little
less
clinic
space
and
more
more
exercise
and
social
areas.
Now.
C
Think
so
nobody
wants
to
just
have
the
same
things.
If,
if
you
have
a
need
for
for
the
services
that
are
in
the
other
facility,
you
can
go
to
the
other
facility
and
you
can
kind
of
pick
and
choose
and
that's
what
we
hope
as
we
get
four
of
them,
that
they
will
offer
different
things
and
you
can
go
to
either
any
the
ones
that
you
want
now.
A
B
They
have
maybe
quadruple
the
number
of
men,
whereas
we
thought
they'd
have
they've,
come
back
to
ask
us
for
extra
money
for
extra
space,
for
dressing,
room
facilities
for
more
pickleball
courts
and
I.
Guess
that's
really
made
my
heart
sing,
because
nothing
would
have
been
worse
than
if
we'd
have
built
them.
Nobody
came
and
nobody
came
so
we
have
built
them
and
people
are
using
them
and
I
think
that
if
there's,
if
there's
anything,
that
really
makes
me
happy
about
the
whole
process
with
the
senior
wellness
centers
is
whatever.
B
B
C
B
We've
had
wonderful
testimonials
from
people
who
are
using
them
coming
in
and
explaining
why
it
is
they'd
like
to
see
us
at
dressing
rooms
or
at
a
pickleball
court
and
its
really
been
uplifting
to
hear
people,
the
various
personal
stories
of
people,
the
man
who
lost
his
wife
and
was
just
staying
home
and
and
was
you
know,
depressed
and
then
he
they
they
built
this
before.
He
could
walk
to
it,
and
so
he
comes
over
to
it
and
it's
really
changed
his
life
and
and
so
hearing.
B
A
A
Another
surprise
I
suspect,
maybe
I'm,
but
you
went
out
and
looked
at
other
centers
when
we
first
planned
this
and
found
out
there
was
very
few
of
any
out.
There
are
people
coming
in
now
and
saying:
what
are
you
guys
doing
here
with
senior
wellness
centers?
We
want
to
maybe
think
about
doing
the
same
thing
in
our
town.
We.
C
Do
have
people
coming
in
trying
to
make
sure
that
they
don't
have
to
go
through
the
same
pains
that
we
went
through
reinvent
the
wheel,
trying
to
help,
because
what
we're
seeing
is
if
it's
such
an
Vantage
to
to
people,
we
want
that
to
go
through
other
communities.
So
yeah.
We
do
have
a
lot
of
communities
wanting
to
see
what
we've
done
and
how
we've
done
it.
We're.
B
We
are
I
get
called
by
the
Oakland
City
Chamber
of
Commerce,
frequently
to
meet
with
representatives
of
other
cities
and
not
just
about
senior
wellness,
but
about
the
whole
maps
process.
I
mean
how
does
how
does
this
work
and
how
did
you
guys
get
this
to
work
and
that
it's
made
such
a
difference
in
your
city
over
the
last
25
years?
How
did
this
happen,
and
so
that's
that
I
really
I'm
always
glad
to
meet
with
with
people
from
other
cities
about
it
and.
A
C
C
C
A
A
You
put
into
this
whole
program,
David!
Thank
you.
You
and
your
staff
may
God
bless
all
of
you
that
are
involved
in
the
senior
centers
as
we
continue
to
provide
respect
and
services
for
our
seniors,
who
have
invested
so
much
in
Oklahoma,
City's
future
god
bless
you
and
thank
you
for
being
with
us
today,
guys
Thank.
