Description
MAPS 3 Program Consultant Mike Mize of ADG gives City Council an update on the downtown convention center project.
B
Mayor
councilmembers
manager
couch
the
present
we're
making
today
is
a
summary
of
the
project
requirements,
documents
that
have
been
submitted
to
you
previously
for
the
convention
center,
the
presentation
itself,
a
summary
of
the
project
requirements
process
and,
what's
included
in
those
documents,
you
may
recall,
we've
been
through
this
before
with
several
other
projects
that
there
are
two
primary
purposes
for
the
project
requirements
documents.
That's
provide
guidelines
for
architects
and
engineers
who
are
engaged
to
provide
architectural
and
engineering
services
for
those
projects
and
to
provide
a
summary
of
the
project
for
the
map.
B
Three
citizens
subcommittees
and
advisory
board.
We
utilized
our
consultants,
we've
utilized
input
from
the
subcommittee
and
we've
and
from
data
collected
from
other
relevant
sources.
The
project
requirements
contain
an
overview
of
the
project
background,
the
project,
description,
site,
description
and
analysis,
space
descriptions,
functional
relationships,
design,
considerations,
budget
and
schedule.
B
This
convention
center
is
envisioned
to
replace
the
aging
of
downtown
convention
center.
That's
currently
in
use,
it
will
significantly
increase
its
size
and
scope
will
have
new
ballrooms
exhibition
halls
and
banquet
facilities.
It
is
intended
to
capture
a
larger
market
for
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City,
we've
included
the
a
summary
of
the
budget,
which
is
included
in
the
implementation
plan,
which
was
passed
by
City
Council
last
year.
That
budget
is
currently
being
adhered
to
and
we
also
provided
a
copy
of
the
schedule.
B
Our
overarching
concern
in
the
in
preparing
the
project
requirements
documents
was
to
honor
the
budget
that
has
been
set
in
the
implementation
plan
by
council
and
to
provide
as
much
flexibility
in
the
document
as
possible
so
that
we
can
maximize
every
dollar
available
made
available
by
Maps
three
for
the
convention
center.
We've
worked
diligently
with
the
subcommittee
to
achieve
that,
and
we
think
this
document
meets
those
needs.
C
Maya
I've
had
a
growing
concern
over
the
last
probably
60
to
90
days
that
stems
from
the
boulevard
controversy
that
was
happening
about
how
to
do
the
boulevard,
whether
it
ought
to
be
a
grade.
All
those
questions
that
keep
coming
up-
and
one
of
the
things
that's
brought
to
mind
to
me,
is
that
the
location
of
this
dislocation
reduces
the
buildable
area,
the
developable
area
that
would
be
created
by
the
boulevard
by
thirty
percent.
Take
it
three
blocks
half
of
one
side
of
the
street
on
three
block.
C
It
also
changes
the
way
that
we
can
develop
the
park
and
I
worry
that
just
basically
the
the
the
location
there
is
going
to
by
changing
that
location
from
where
it
was
to
where
it
is,
is
going
to
change
dramatically.
What
we,
how
we
look
at
the
boulevard,
how
we
look
at
the
park.
I,
don't
expect
you
to
respond
to
that
today,
but
I,
but
the
more
I
look
into
what
we're
going
to
do
with
the
boulevard
and.
C
B
I
can
briefly
I
will
briefly
respond
to
that.
Just
by
saying
way
of
saying
that
there
has
been
a
very
conservative
effort
on
the
part
of
the
park
subcommittee,
the
convention
center
subcommittee
transit
city
staff,
working
with
do
t
on
the
design
of
the
boulevard
to
try
and
coordinate
those
efforts
as
much
as
possible
to
minimize
some
of
the
issues
that
you've
just
enumerated.
But.
C
D
C
We
block
chills
because
we're
going
to
gridlock
it
because
we
don't
have
access
to
the
interstate
I
mean
I,
don't
see
an
overall
comprehensive
plan
that
bought
that
really
bothers
me
when
I
get
out
of
a
thunder
game
and
I
can't
go
home
without
going
a
mile
out
of
my
way
through
brick
town,
because
shields
is
blocked
because
it'll
gridlock
traffic
to
the
south,
getting
on
I-40
I'm
thinking.
Nobody
told
me
that
that's
going
to
happen,
I
mean
so
maybe
everybody
else
knew
that.
C
E
Shared
think
I
will
make
one
point
that
I
think
irrelevant
they'll
be
because
those
discussions
did
go
on,
but
you
there's
two
things:
the
convention
center
there's
a
vision
that
the
boulevard
front
each
of
the
Convention
Center,
could
actually
be
a
retail
corridor.
It
could
be
coffee
shops,
it
could
be
a
newspaper
stand.
It
could
be
something
along
there
to
make
it
look
like
a
Boulevard.
The
other
one
is
if
the.
E
They
would
welcome
the
ability
to
put
something
on
that
very
prime
piece
of
property
right
there
and
you're
going
to
end
up
having
the
same
things
with
that
building
that
you'd
have
with
the
convention
center
so
to
say
that
they
weren't
discussed,
I
think,
is
it
they
were,
and
it
was
kind
of
the
lesser
of
two
evils
as
they
went
down
through
there.
Yeah
all.
