Description
Host Tierney Tinnin showcases the community partnership between Heronville Elementary School and The City of Oklahoma City.
A
A
So
again,
congratulations
to
Daniel
well
on
today's
show
we're
going
to
focus
on
the
saying
that
it
takes
a
village
to
raise
a
child,
a
look
at
the
great
partnership
between
Oklahoma
City,
Public,
Schools
and
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City
to
help
us
explain
and
paint
a
picture
of
what
the
partnership
called.
The
joint
task
force
means
for
the
students
in
Oklahoma
City
we're
joined
by
OKC
City
Councilman
Pete
White,
who
represents
Ward
4
in
South,
Oklahoma
City.
Thank
you.
So
much
for
being
on
the
showcase
today
glad.
B
B
What
we
we
thought,
I
the
way
I
put
it
was
we
both
have
large
systems
that
are
probably
not
as
efficient
as
they
ought
to
be,
and
certainly
if
we
could,
we
could
look
for
synergies
between
us
and
both
or
both
organizations
could
be
more
effective
and
that's
kind
of
what
the
overriding
goal
was.
Just
look
for
efficiencies
and.
A
B
B
Another
thing
that
may
happen
with
regard
to
that.
It
may
be
a
possibility
of
changing
the
start
time
for
schools
to
to
match
the
city's
bus
times
in
the
morning,
which
would
save
a
lot
of
of
high
89
bus
money.
So
that's
just
that's
one
idea
and
just
transit.
There's
a
number
of
other
ones,
but
we
could
go
on
there.
B
A
B
A
B
I'm
part
of
a
group
that
meets
regularly
that
involves
the
25th
Street,
the
old
commerce
street
area
and
light
a
lady
that
it
was
assistant
librarian
there
at
the
library
at
26th
and
hudson,
brought
to
me
the
idea.
The
fact
that
at
wind
capital,
elementary
schools
out
there
just
inundated
with
kids
they
within
about
15
minutes
ago.
A
B
It's
a
great
thing
right:
they
go
from
a
sleepy
little
suburban
library
to
just
a
full-blown
lots
of
kids
there
and
and
I.
It's
probably
not
any
better
place
that
young
people
can
be
or
elementary
students
can
be,
as
in
a
library
so
I
figured.
We
ought
to
try
to
find
a
way
to
accommodate
that
and
while
working
with
the
city,
we
found
some
funding
and
we're
working
with
the
library
system
to
hopefully
expand
that
library
to
accommodate
that
big
influx
of
young
people
that
come
there.
B
B
B
Out
of
the
task
force
right,
a
young
later
name
is
Rebecca.
Navarro
I
I
go
every
monday
at
ten
o'clock
and
redo.
It's
the
best
30
minutes
of
my
week.
Really
I
go
every
every
monday,
she's
just
delightful
and
with
70
other
people
from
the
city
of
Oklahoma,
City,
70,
other
reading,
buddy
volunteers.
We
started
out
thinking
that
we
might
be
able
to
get
20
and
we
had
to
cut
it
off
at
70
because
we
had
we
went
more
than
they
were
able
to
accommodate.
It
has
just
been
a
great
program
and.
A
B
A
A
Welcome
back
here's
a
look
at
hawthorne
elementary
schools,
groundbreaking
ceremony
in
northwest
Oklahoma
City.
The
renovations
will
include
updated
facilities
in
more
space
for
the
Hawthorn
Hawks.
Well
joining
us
now
is
Elizabeth
Cantrell
teacher
at
Heron
vil
elementary
school.
She
helps
organize
a
thriving
partnership
at
the
schools
between
the
city
and
also
Oklahoma
City
Public
Schools,
so
miss
Cantrell.
Thank
you
so
much
for
being
on
the
show
today.
Thank
you.
I
know.
You
saw
mr.
White's
face
just
light
up
when
he
talked
about
his
reading.
Betty.
D
So
tell
us
about
this
program.
Well,
it's
just
been
a
wonderful
collaboration
between
Herron,
ville,
elementary
and
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City,
and
we
do
have
70
employees
from
the
city
that
come
out
to
volunteer
with
our
kids
and
they
come
once
a
week
to
read
for
30
minutes
with
our
first
graders
and
we've
got
it
set
up
monday.
Through
thursday,
we've
got
five
first
grade
classes,
so
two
of
the
classes
read
with
the
buddies
on
monday
and
then
one
each
on
tuesday,
wednesday
thursday
is.
D
Because
first
grade
is
such
a
critical
year
for
beginning
reading
instruction
I
mean
we're
building
on
what
has
been
done
in
pre-k
and
kindergarten
with
the
phonics
and
the
oral
language
development,
and
we
have
so
many
new
skills
that
we
introduced
in
first
grade
each
week,
a
new
grammar
skill
and
new
phonics
rule
new
sight,
words
and
vocabulary.
So
we
have
a
lot
to
tackle.
We
have
a
lot
of
challenges
and
we
just
are
welcoming
all
the
help
we
can
get
to
work
with
our
students.
Just.
D
A
D
Been
very
excited,
they
love
the
program.
They
really
do
and
they're
more
excited
to
read
their
story
in
their
reading
book
that
week,
because
then
they
can
read
it
to
their
buddy
or
they
might
take
effect
favorite
line
book
with
them
or
book
from
home,
and
they
can't
wait
to
meet
with
their
reading
buddies
each
week.
I
know.
A
D
D
A
Will
speak
with
one
of
the
ok
CPS
volunteer
coordinators
who
helped
organize
the
program
and
let
you
know
how
you
can
get
involved,
that's
when
we
return,
but
right
now,
let's
take
a
look
at
some
photos
from
Thelma
our
Parks
elementary
school.
These
are
some
grand
opening
celebration
photos.
The
school
received
additional
classrooms
and
renovated
space
for
the
temple
rules
and
the
great
teachers
at
the
school
we'll
be
right
back.

A
Welcome
back
to
the
maps
for
kick
showcase
joining
us
now
is
Rachael
Taylor
volunteer
coordinator
for
Oklahoma
City
Public
Schools.
Thank
you
for
being
on
the
show.
Cased
a
ratio
thanks
for
having
the
volunteer
department
with
ok
CPS
is
a
new
initiative
for
the
district.
It
was
derived
from
the
strategic
plan.
Tell
us
the
goals
and
visions
for
this
department.
Yes,.
E
The
strategic
plan
is
really
geared
towards
well.
At
least
our
initiative
is
really
geared
towards
involving
every
school
and
getting
them
with
a
partnership,
a
community
partner,
so
be
it
a
faith-based
organization,
a
business,
a
state
agency
or
government
entity
or
community
organization
to
be
able
to
give
students
the
opportunity
to
be
exposed
to
positive
role
models
and
to
have
those
experiences
with
being
open
to
certain
career
paths
and
careers
out
there.
So
that's.
A
E
There
are
that's
right,
in
fact,
we
have
several
that
are
huge,
that
are
some
are
well
known,
and
then
we
have
some
that
aren't
so
I
just
kind
of
want
to
talk
about
a
few
gently.
We
have.
We
have
Chesapeake
at
Horace
Mann
there
have.
They
have
a
really
structured
partnership
where
every
school,
every
student
in
the
school
is
actually
partnered
with
a
tutor.
Yes,
and
then
we
have
Devin
at
Mark
Twain,
and
this.
E
This
partnership
is
so
great
that
some
of
the
volunteers
from
Devin
they
actually
followed
their
kids
out
through
middle
school
because
they
want
to
stay,
and
so
that's
for
positive
positive
relationships.
Some
after-school
programs
that
we
have
our
whiz,
kids
and
Noah
ministries.
They
do
some
really
structured
power,
our
type
tutor
at
to
make
involvement
with
the
kids,
and
then
we
have
integris
and
sonic.
There
are
also
some
other
partners
that
are
involved
in
the
schools.
Well,.
E
A
E
It's
it's
a
wonderful
partnership.
I
think
it
helps
to
for
organizations
out
there
that
may
not
feel
that
they
have
the
capacity
to
be
able
to
provide
every
student
in
the
school.
A
tutor
I
think
it
really
shows
that
many
organizations
can
identify
with
meeting
needs
in
our
schools.
So
it
was
it's
a
great
partnership.
It
shows
that
just
30
minutes
a
week
can
really
make
a
difference
with
a
student.
So.
E
Think
calling
us
and
meeting
with
us
and
exploring
options
to
be
able
to
meet
some
of
the
needs.
We
really
want
to
make
sure
that
the
goals
that
the
organization
has
that
we
were
able
to
meet
and
we
have
several
needs
so
that
won't
be
hard
okay.
So
what's
the
phone
number,
let's
give
it
to
the
folks.
Well,
40
5,
58
70
to
74
is
actually
my
direct
line,
but
you
can
also

on
the
