Description
MAPS 3 Program Manager David Todd provides a construction tour of the new RIVERSPORT Rapids Whitewater Rafting and Kayak Center. Massive pumps will send water rushing down the concrete channel, providing a whitewater rafting experience minutes away from downtown Oklahoma City suitable for amateurs, families and professionals. The MAPS 3 project is set to open in May.

the

of
the
project.
River
sport
Rapids,
which
is
funded
by
maps
3,
is
about
90%,
complete
and
scheduled
to
open
in
May.
Contracting
is
working
on
the
inside
of
the
main
building.
Crews
are
now
installing
ceiling,
tile
lighting
and
restaurant
equipment
and
painting
on
the
west
end
handrails
are
being
installed
on
the
pedestrian
bridge,
which
is
nearly
complete.

can
see
the
competition
channel
where
custom
white
water
obstacles
called
rapid
blocks
have
been
installed
to
create
the
whitewater
rapids,
which
can
be
adjusted
over
time.
The
steel
structures
you
see
will
hold
the
cables
and
gates
used
for
competitive,
slalom,
training
and
events.
The
bottom
pool
concrete
is
complete,
and
crews
will
soon
begin
to
fill
the
course
with
water.
The
conveyor
system
has
been
installed,
which
will
transport
rafters
to
the
top
pool
where
they
will
paddle
to
either
of
the
two
whitewater
channels.
A
Mechanical
electrical
and
plumbing
work
continues
inside
the
pump
house,
and
crews
will
soon
begin
startup
and
testing
of
the
equipment.
The
kayak
building
overlooks
the
top
pool,
which
will
feature
a
grand
staircase
and
a
shallow
training
pool
for
kayak
construction.
The
crews
are
prepping
the
staircase
for
what
will
be
the
final
concrete,
pour
more
rapid
blocks,
fill
the
recreation
channel
where
everyone
can
enjoy
the
rafting
experience,
as
we
near
the
end
of
the
project.
A
Downey
contracting
will
focus
on
filling
the
course
with
water
and
finish
in
site
works
such
as
sidewalks,
irrigation
and
landscaping,
and
testing
the
equipment
to
prepare
the
course
for
its
opening
day.
