Mayor Mick Cornett and other City leaders cut the ribbon on the new Municipal Court building, unveiling a more modern building that makes it more convenient for residents to conduct Court business.

The new Court building, 701 Couch Drive, is on the northwest corner of the historic Civic Center district on the opposite side of the new Police Department headquarters, which opened last year. The old Police headquarters and Court building are in between the new buildings, and will eventually be transformed into a parking plaza.

The new Court building’s design allows residents to use the customer service windows without first going through a security screening, unlike the old building. The 65,000-square-foot building is almost twice the size of the old one and combines traditional design influences with modern and efficient features.

Good afternoon, everyone on behalf of Judge Austin, just keeping an eye and just have good I'd like to welcome everybody to our ribbon-cutting ceremony, with our new Municipal Court building, to quote one of my favorite poet singers from the 1960. Let's get it all.

Even though I'm elected official, it's good to be in a courtroom, you usually it's where we prefer not to be, but I must say that if you got to be in a courtroom, this is a pretty nice one. So for that, I'd like to thank the citizens of Oklahoma City for stepping up in that 2007 bond issue and continuing to invest in our city and our city's future. It's a reminder, I think, to those who voted on this past Tuesday that some projects take a while.

These are sprinkled out over many many years and we voted on some last Tuesday that won't be built for another ten years or more. But you see the quality of the construction, and you see the could be attention to detail that we're putting into our projects and it's all about higher standards, and you see it in Oklahoma, City's public works project and our capital projects over and over again I.

Need to acknowledge two of my fallen colleagues this afternoon when this project began several years ago. William J mango was our presiding, judge and Paige price Morgan was our vice Prez, IDing judge I know they both look forward to and would have enjoyed this day. Judge mango and judge Morgan are missed by those of us who worked with him on a daily basis. Judge mango with his great belly laugh was always in a good mood. He had nicknames for everyone and it was an.

It was an honor when he bestowed one of those nicknames upon you judge Morgan also made certain. We knew what season it was or what holiday was just around the corner. She had a wardrobe of sweaters for every season, Halloween Thanksgiving Christmas and she always had her door adorn wreaths that commemorated every holiday. I also want to acknowledge former chair of our Judiciary Committee longtime City Councilman and lifelong Oklahoma City resident Pete white people's on the City Council.

When this project began- and we are honored that he has joined us today- he was always a good friend to the judges and to the court. During his service on the City Council, our old building was first built in 1940.

The original structure has been added to and remodeled throughout the 50s, the 60s and beyond our new building. This building has 65,000 square feet of space. We have six courtrooms each with custom, woodwork and natural wood stone. We have maintained traditional courtroom, decor with 21st century technology, our first floor lobby showcases a magnificent. A magnificent staircase with granite benches granite benches, also decorate the second floor. Lobby, our new building has so many windows that they afford all of our employees. Our financial services manager, John Lemieux, is getting his first office with a window after 34 years of service with the city.
