From YouTube: From City Hall - Ward 3 - August 2014
Description
Oklahoma City Ward 3 Council Larry McAtee talks with Georgie Rasco and Jennifer Meckling of the Neighborhood Alliance.
A
B
It's
a
great
time
just
to
be
in
oklahoma
city
as
a
whole,
but
it's
also
a
great
time
to
live
in
neighborhoods
in
oklahoma
city.
I
think
people,
the
citizens
are
very
empowered
right
now
they
feel
like
they
can
make
a
difference
and
all
they
do.
All
I
need
is
a
few
tools
to
learn
how
to
do
that.
Who
are
my
resources?
B
B
A
B
Have
every
fall?
We
have
the
good
neighbor
awards.
Banquet
is
one
of
our
largest
programs
of
the
year.
It
is
a
banquet
where
we
honor
people
that
have
been
doing
great
things
for
neighborhoods
in
Oklahoma
City.
It's
always
a
sellout
crowd
and
the
top
floor
of
the
petroleum
club
downtown
it's
a
beautiful
beautiful
evening
and
a
great
way
to
say,
I'm,
really,
supportive
of
Oklahoma
City.
B
We
give
away
the
awards
of
best
neighbor
of
the
year
we
best
neighborhood
of
the
year
best
neighborhood
newsletter,
best
neighborhood
project,
and
we
also
award
a
best
neighborhood,
it
I'm
sorry,
corporate
neighbor,
best
corporate
neighbor,
which
is
a
business
or
a
non-profit
group
that
has
really
helped
neighborhoods.
So
if
you
have
a
non-profit
or
a
corporation
in
your
neighborhood,
that's
helped
you
with
projects
or
donated
you
and
you'd
like
to
give
back
and
tell
them
how
much
you
thank
them.
This
is
a
great
opportunity
for
you
to
honor
them.
Shame.
A
B
Dell
has
done
a
phenomenal
job,
but
not
only
a
little
river
park,
that's
at
the
base
of
their
corporation
in
their
home
there,
but
they've
also
donated
to
moon
academy,
which
is
on
the
northeast
side
and
lots
of
other
projects
and
they're
very
supportive
of
neighborhood
alliance
as
well,
and
all
all
corporations
could
follow
their
lead
and
we
do
have
a
lot
of
corporations
in
oklahoma
city
that
adopt
neighborhoods
and
work
very,
very
well
with
them.
But
I
would
put
dell
right
at
the
top
of
that
list.
Now.
A
B
To
our
website
and
the
nomination
forms,
are
there
it's
a
great
way
for
you
to
nominate
neighbors
in
your
neighborhood,
whether
it's
somebody
that's
done
something
extraordinary
or
just
lived
in
the
neighborhood,
since
it
was
first
started
whatever
it
is
that
you
want
to
honor
them,
it's
it.
So
it's
your
way
to
do
that.
Every
single
person,
thats
nominated,
will
receive
a
certificate
and
a
letter
from
us
letting
them
know
that
someone
thought
enough
of
you
to
nominate
you
for
this
award,
which
in
itself
is
a
great
great
honor
and
as
well
another.
B
Pretty
simple:
it's
the
initials
in
a
sea:
ok,
dot
org,
which
stands
for
neighborhood
alliance
of
Central,
Oklahoma,
org
Jennifer's
done
a
fabulous
job
on
that
website
and
you're,
not
only
going
to
find
things
about
the
workshops
that
we
do,
which
are
numerous
throughout
the
year.
The
banquet,
of
course,
of
the
nominations,
but
lots
and
lots
of
tools
on
how
to
make
your
neighborhood
stronger
and
how
to
deal
with
with
different
situations
that
arise
in
your
neighborhood.
Now.
A
C
Great
neighborhoods,
it
has
its
own
website,
create
great
neighborhoods
org
and
it's
a
granting
program
that
will
give
a
total
of
five
thousand
dollars
in
this
year
to
three
different
neighborhoods.
Those
neighborhoods
will
prove
to
us
that
they
can
be
advocates
and
educators
and
awareness
razors
within
their
neighborhood
for
sustainability,
energy
efficiency
and
other
just
resource
aware
ways
to
live,
and
the
the
theory
is
that
small
individual
changes
that
you
make
in
your
lifestyle
at
home
can
then
be
aggregated
within
your
neighborhood.
C
And
then
all
those
neighborhoods
together
will
affect
our
city
in
a
great
way.
The
three
neighborhoods
that
show
us
that
they're,
the
top
three
in
this
summer,
they'll
be
awarded
of
twenty
five
hundred
dollar
grant
a
fifteen
hundred
dollar
grant
or
a
thousand
dollar
grant
at
the
end
of
the
summer
and
they'll.
C
They'll
tell
us
their
stories
on
how
they
achieve
that.
Some
of
the
the
great
anecdotal
stories
that
they've
gotten
from
their
neighbors
and
how
they
may
have
saved
money
over
the
summer,
how
they
may
have
learned
about
healthier
living
and,
in
general,
we're
hoping
that
this
will
bring
a
neighborhood
together.
Anyone
anytime
you
share
a
project
and
a
common
goal.
It
really
builds
the
social
connections
within
your
neighborhood
and
that's
a
really
big
side
effect
of
this.
C
This
program,
if
neighbors
want
to
sign
up
for
that,
they
just
have
to
go
to
create
great
neighborhoods
org,
tell
us
they're
interested
in
being
in
the
program
and
then
through
the
summer
will
sort
of
walk
them
through
give
them
ideas
things
to
put
in
their
newsletters
projects.
They
can
do
with
their
neighbors
and
try
to
really
promote
that
program
within
their
neighborhood
and
help
them
write
that
grant
proposal
at
the
end
as
well.
Now,.
A
C
B
Money
and
Larry
I
want
to
mention
our
partners
on
this
grant
on
this
program.
Oh
GME
is
the
founding
partner
of
this
program,
they're
very,
very
interested
in
helping
all
of
us
live
energy
efficiently.
So
this
is
one
of
the
ways
that
they're
trying
to
help
us
learn
how
to
do
that
as
well
as
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City
office
of
sustainability
is
another
one
of
the
partners,
so
we
have
some
great
people
that
are
helping
neighborhoods
be
able
to
become
more
sustainable,
so.
A
C
Certainly
hope
so
and,
like
I
said
earlier
anytime,
we
have
the
opportunity
to
give
grants
to.
Neighborhoods
is
a
real
bonus
for
us.
It's
something
we
like
to
do
and
something
we
like
to
be
involved
with
and
helping
that
neighborhood
build.
Those
social
connections
on
the
way
to
a
grant
is
just
a
huge
bonus
and.
B
Though
GE
did
do
this
program
last
year
in
a
little
bit
different
fashion.
It
wasn't
quite
though
it's
redone
for
2014,
but
last
year,
Military
Park
Neighborhood,
Association
15
thousand
dollars
in
creating
a
program
that
they
did
for
them
for
them
themselves
and
they're
in
the
process
right
now
of
planning
a
new
entryway
project
where
they're
building
a
beautiful
brick
entry
way
to
identify
their
neighborhood
well,.
A
B
Are
thanks
to
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City?
We
requested
and
were
given
the
funds
to
hire
a
new
neighborhood
capacity
builder,
it's
kind
of
a
fancy
term,
or
maybe
a
community
organizer,
but
this
person
is
going
to
specifically
and
only
work
in
building
up
South
Side
neighborhoods.
We
just
don't
have
as
many
active
South
Side
neighborhoods
as
we
do
on
the
north
side.
So
we
realize
that
we're
going
to
need
to
have
a
special
person
who's
very
connected
to
the
south
side.
We
need
to
have
somebody
who's
bilingual.
B
We
want
somebody
that
can
talk
with
grassroots
level,
neighborhood
people,
as
well
as
the
south
side
chamber,
as
well
as
the
city
council
members,
so
they're
going
to
have
to
have
great
communication
skills
and
have
a
real
passion
for
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City
and
the
South
Side
neighborhoods.
So
if
that's
you
and
if
that's
something
that
you'd
be
interested
in
talking
to
us
with
a
career
opportunity,
please
give
me
a
call
buenas.
C
B
Absolutely
do
we
wouldn't
be
in
the
place
that
we're
in
today,
with
the
lower
unemployment
rate
with
the
new
companies
that
are
moving
into
town
with
all
the
beautiful
Maps
projects,
if
it
weren't
for
very,
very
committed
citizens.
The
people
that
live
here
that
continue
to
believe
in
Oklahoma
City.
The
first
thing
they
believe
in
hopefully
is
their
neighborhood.
They
look
around
and
they
say
I.
I
love
these.
People
that
live
around
me.
I
want
to
get
to
know
them.
B
B
A
B
Is
such
a
vital
question
because
people
get
so
excited
about
purchasing
a
new
home?
They
forget
to
look
at
all
of
the
things
that
go
around
that
home.
It
is
your
responsibility
before
you
sign
on
that
dotted
line
to
find
out
what
kind
of
a
neighborhood
you
live
in,
whether
it's
mandatory
or
voluntary.
Are
there
required
dues?
What
are
the
responsibilities
that
I
have
in
maintaining
this
neighborhood?
Do
I
live
on
private
streets
am
I
going
to
have
to
maintain
these
streets
with,
along
with
my
neighbors.
B
You
need
to
find
all
that
out
so
that
you're
not
surprised
after
you
sign
on
the
dotted
line
and
move
in,
so
that
we
have
workshops
in
our
office
on
every
single
month.
The
first
Monday
of
every
month
is
the
voluntary
associations
that
get
to
come
for
a
free
workshop.
We
even
give
you
a
free
supper.
Whoa.
A
B
On
the
first
Tuesday
of
every
month,
it's
for
mandatory
associations,
so
if
you
want
to
learn
more
about
how
to
organize
in
the
Association,
how
to
run
an
association
will
be
a
good
officer
for
one
of
those
associations
or
just
the
general
workings
of
how
it's
supposed
to
work,
we
will
help
you
every
step
of
that
way.
The
first
step
is
to
come
to
one
of
those
free
workshops.
Again
it's
on
our
website.
Then
you
can
register
there
because
we
serve
food.
B
A
B
First
thing
that
we
want
you
to
do
if
you
want
to
start
a
neighborhood
association
and
I
cannot
stress
enough
how
helpful
it
will
be
for
your
neighborhood.
If
you
want
to
improve
your
property
values,
if
you
want
to
get
rid
of
crime
or
get
rid
of
graffiti
or
improve
your
neighborhood
park
whatever
it
is,
you
want
to
do
getting
the
power
of
neighbors
together
in
an
organized
manner,
is
really
going
to
be
the
most
beneficial
thing
you
can
do,
and
it's
pretty
simple.
All
you
have
to
do
is
get
two.
B
Maybe
three
other
people
that
are
kind
of
like
minded
that
also
want
to
see
their
neighborhood
and
their
property
values
improve,
make
an
appointment
in
our
office
or
better
yet
come
to
that
first
of
the
month
meeting
and
from
there
whatever
you
didn't.
Learn
in
that
meeting
that
you
need,
we
will
help
you
one-on-one
wow,.
A
What
are
here,
you're
saying
it
only
takes
about
a
spark
to
get
a
fire
going,
and
just
one
or
two
like-minded
neighbors
can
get
a
movement
going
where
you
and
Jennifer
and
the
rest
of
the
neighborhood
alliance
crowd
can
come
along.
Give
us
a
direction
to
run,
give
us
encouragement
and
we
can
see
some
positive
things
happen.
A
B
Cannot
run
a
great
city
or
create
a
great
city
without
great
citizens,
you've
got
to
be
involved
from
every
step
of
the
way
from
the
senior
citizens
in
your
neighborhood
to
the
children.
The
schools
in
your
neighborhood
there's
some
place
for
you.
It
doesn't
have
to
be
overwhelming.
It
doesn't
have
to
be
I,
don't
have
a
clue
what
to
do.
We
are
here
to
lpo
at
neighborhood
alliance,
so
just
give
us
a
call
if
you're
interested
in
improving
your
neighborhood
or
city
we're
here,
for
you,
hey.
B
A
Hope
you've
caught
their
enthusiasm,
their
commitment
to
the
future,
and
you
know,
as
a
Christian
I,
believe
in
the
Bible
there's
a
versus
paraphrase.
The
good
influence
of
godly
citizens
causes
a
city
to
prosper
and
that's
what
you're
about
raising
up
good
citizens
to
help
all
of
us
in
Oklahoma
City
prosper
in
the
future.
We.
