Description
Oklahoma City Ward 1 Councilman James Greiner talks with Coach Lenny Bent and student athlete Omega Harris of Putnam City West High School.
A
By
Oklahoma
City
I'm,
James
Griner
councilman
for
Ward
1,
I'm
here
today
with
lynn,
Ebert
and
Omega
Harris.
Both
of
them
are
from
Putnam
City,
West,
High
School.
In
he's,
the
head
basketball
coach,
who
it
was,
was
awarded
the
big
all-city
coach
of
the
year
this
year
and
Omega
is
a
senior
on
the
team
and
he
was
a
he
was
the
big
All
City
player
of
the
year.
So
thanks
for
thanks
for
coming
on
guys,
another
pleasure
to
be
here.
Thank
you.
B
A
Well,
start
off
by
just
talking
about
the
season,
because
it
was,
it
was
quite
a
season.
You
guys
were
state
runner-up
won
a
lot
of
games
didn't
lose
very
many
won
quite
a
few
tournaments.
Even
you
battled
some
some
things
that
came
up
during
the
season
that
really
affects
effects
teams
negatively
and
you
fought
through
them
and
still
had
a
really
successful
year.
So
just
kind
of
give
me
thoughts
on
your
season
as
a
whole.
Well,.
B
Yes,
we
did
bout
a
lot
of
adversity,
starting
the
season
often
won
some
national
tournaments
recognized
nationally,
as
well
as
locally
in
oklahoma
city
in
oklahoma.
I
should
say
we
we
want
to
have
a
self
get
a
chance
to
go
to
an
adverse
situation
on
the
floor,
but
not
as
much
off
the
floor.
I
mean
I,
don't
know
all
year
if
we
were
ever
full
strength,
the
entire
29
games.
B
We
end
up
being
26
and
three
this
year
started
the
season
off
three
and
two
lost
a
triple
overtime
game
too
used
to
North
Shore,
which
eventually
they
they
won
state
title
in
Texas
and
they
were
nationally
ranked
at
the
end
of
the
year.
30.
Actually,
third
number
three
in
the
nation,
my
maxpreps,
so
we
went
triple
overtime.
So
we
you
know
that
was
a
tough
game
for
us
and
Omega
fouled
out.
That
game
is
Tyson
found
at
that
game,
st.
So
three
top
players
found
out
that
game,
which
it
was
tough.
B
With
me
and
the
coach,
you
know
the
coach
coach
green.
We
actually
talked
about
it
out.
The
game
was
over
because
it
was
so
early
in
the
season.
I
think
it
was
december
fifth
or
six
something
like
that.
So
it
was
like
a
third
game
of
the
year,
we're
talking
he
said.
Well,
we
know
that
this
either
one
of
us
probably
gonna,
be
in
the
state
championship
game
and
represent
Oklahoma
and
they
represent
Texas
and
they
came
out
on
top.
You
know
where
we
got
to
the
championship
game,
but
we
wouldn't
full
strength.
B
You
know
we
lost
Tyson
jolly
along
the
Year
forest
health
wise.
He
he
battled
some
blood
clots.
One
night
and
I
mean
one
time.
I.
Think
I
said
that
we
had
the
top
two
players
on
one
team.
You
know
both
of
them
were
averaging
about
18
points
which
he
almost
averaged
19
this
year
Omega.
So
it
was.
That
was
a
definitely
a
two-headed
monster
that
we
had
and
we
were.
B
We
were
battle-tested
all
year
and
had
some
success
brought
him
some
tradition
to
PC
West
I
think
that
people
could
look
forward
to
seeing
in
the
future.
As
well
in
omega
Harris,
you
know
he
spearheaded
that
from
since
the
sophomore
year,
I
mean
he's
really
had
a
chance
to
put
us
in
state
every
year.
You
know
by
his
work
again
just
things
he
does
on
the
floor
and
off
as
well.
Yeah.
A
A
You
know
something
like
that,
and
so
is
really
talk
about
how
you
know
the
basketball
team
has
really
contributed
to
the
pride
at
West
and
and
really
generated
a
sense
of
community,
because
I
mean
I
know
that
I
know
that
teams
really
are
sometimes
can
generate
that
among
a
student
body
and
grow
and
create
you
know
the
an
apathetic
student
body
really
gets
involved
and
excited
about
things.
Yeah.
B
You
know,
and
it
was
just
one
of
those
things
that
you
know
I'm
used
to
that
type
of
atmosphere
where
what
I
mean
that
kids
exude
confidence
pride
in
their
school
and
that
wasn't
there
it
and
I
you
know,
I
told
the
young
men
coming
in
the
team.
I
was,
and
this
was
2011
I
told
him
say:
hey
look.
We
we
have
to
act
a
certain
way.
We
have
to
be
able
to
on
the
floor
and
off
but
notice
right
now.
What
you
see
is
you
know
you
got
to
start
pulling
your
pants
up.
B
The
buttocks
or
whatnot,
so
you
know
from
that
to
you
know,
stand
up
on
your
work,
so
we
implemented
that
first
year
we
had
study
hall.
Two
days
a
week
we
were
sorta,
like
you,
always
represented
your
your
school
or
your
family.
First
of
all,
your
school
and
just
this
basketball
team
as
well.
So
we
we
tried
to
do
things
on
like
the
days
of
game.
The
community
was
good
at
churches.
The
churches
in
the
community,
several
different
ones,
I
mean
I,
can
go
on
and
say
the
gate
cube
western
oaks.
B
Church
I
mean
Bethany
Church
of
Christ,
all
of
them
just
at
different
times,
came
in
and
helped
us
out.
You
know
with
different
pregame
meals
and
whatnot
and
and
I
think
some
of
the
boys
really
like
we
had
certain.
We
started
getting
certain
pre-games
meals
that
we
like
with
like
we
got
to
get
this
like
we
get
a
win,
a
big
win.
Then
we
got
a.
We
got
a
had
a
dependent
next
time,
so
you.
B
But
the
boys
I
mean
they
they
they
now
with
coming
in.
You
know,
I
think
we
have
one
varsity
player
and
then
my
first
year
and
then
was
off
like
the
rest
of
the
team,
was
like
JV
players
right
and
that
year
we
wear
knock
off
number
two
team
and
number
three
team
at
sana:
sana,
fey
him
it
with
city.
You
know
which
great
basketball
teams
at
the
time
laughing
cuz.
He
was
at
me
what
city
there.
C
A
B
Right
yeah,
I
mean
I've
been
around
New
a
city
program
since
probably
86
right,
my
brother
and
just
as
a
bar
boy,
were
just
hanging
around
the
players.
Right
then,
as
a
coach,
seven
years
total
as
a
coach
over
there
not
consecutive,
because
I
moved
away
in
DC
and
came
back,
but
we
yeah.
It
was
a
tradition
that
we
had,
but
I
noticed
that
it
wasn't
always
there.
You
know
when
I
came
up.
B
You
know
I
remember
winning
nine
games
of
the
sophomore
and
the
next
year
when
the
semi-finals
and
then
the
next
year,
when
Gemma
stir
again
so
I
can
relate
to
what
we're
going
through
now
and
with
pc
Wesson
hey.
It
wasn't
always
at
the
top.
Now
that
you're
there
you
do
set
a
tradition,
tradition
and
that's
long
as
you
have
good
players,
you
have
you're
in
you're
out
it's
easier
on
the
coach
to
do
it.
A
C
Basketball,
a
long
time
and
I've
always
had
his
mind,
set
to
wear
your
relationship
after
court
is
going
to
depict
the
way
you
put
under
quick,
see
like
if
we
ripped
clothes
on
the
court.
I
mean
off
the
court.
I
j
together
on
the
chorion,
we're
just
gonna
fly
and
that's
what
basketball
was
about
for
me
just
having
fun
with
my
friends,
family
and
everybody
on
the
team
became
like
a
brothers
because
like
when
we
break
it
up
guy
one
two,
three
brothers,
we
went
to
say
a
team
like
everybody
else.
B
I
mean
it:
that's
that's
one
thing
that
we
looked
at
with
a
when
you
know
Tyson
had
his
his
fist
battle
with
and
which
is
still
going
through.
He's
doing
well
he's
doing
right
now
with
the
blood
clots.
But
that's
you
know
it's
like.
We
increased
our
amount
of
victories.
Far
as
the
margin
of
victory
I
mean
it
was
like
for
us
ban.
I
was
count,
there's
something
that
me
and
coach
grinder
was
the
one
your
brother
yeah
go.
B
Would
leave
he
looked
at
and
I
think
our
margin
of
winning
went
from
like
like
went
up
like
15
points.
It
was
because
we
played
a
different
style,
but
at
the
same
time
I'm
not
I,
think
most
of
it
was
because
of
what
he
said
off
the
court.
You
know
I
think
they
felt
like
they
had
to
be
there
for
the
brother,
Tyson
and
I
mean
we
went
at
last
10
games
like
averaging
90
points
in
the
team
that
we
beat
whatever
is
like
55
so
well,.
A
Yeah
talk
a
little
bit
more
about
your
philosophy
of
your
philosophy
of
coaching
and
some
of
the
life
lessons
that
you
try
and
teach
teach
the
players.
I
know
that
when
I
played
basketball
and
football,
the
things
that
I
learned
doing
that
or
you
know
I
apply
the
things
that
I
learned
in
that
in
things
that
other
than
basketball,
and
so
it's
an
aspect
of
sports
that
people
that
have
never
played
don't
quite
understand.
So
how
do
you?
How
do
you
facilitate
that?
Is
it
you.
B
Know
most
I
think
that
you
know
you
go
into
business
or
if
you
go
into
government
with
politics,
you
think
some
of
our
great
leaders
are
those
of
the
former
athletes.
You
know
JC
Watts,
Steve
Largent
I
mean
so
you
can
go
on
and
on
and
say
that
I
could
I.
Probably
if
I
can
all
give
your
testimony
of
how
they
think
what
they
learned
on
the
practice
field
or
court,
how
it
moded
them
for
what
they
doing
today
and
just
about
you
know,
persevering
through
different
obstacles,
I'm
not
easy
to
get
along
with
forest.
B
Well,
not
as
far
as
off
the
on
the
on
the
field
on
the
court.
Sometimes
it
could
be
a
challenge.
You
know
we
we
pride
ourselves
on
being
the
best
condition
team
in
the
state.
Far
as
I
made
I'm,
making
a
comment
to
one
of
my
friends.
I
said:
okay,
if
you
don't
have
a
six-pack
can't
play
for
us,
but
I'm,
hey,
so
I
wouldn't
be
able
to
play,
but
you
know,
but
you
know
just
to
go
through
different
battles.
B
Versity,
like
you
know,
running
in
105-degree
weather
in
September,
and
you
know,
lifting
weights
and
just
at
a
different
level,
though
everything
we
want
to
do
is
at
a
different
level
because
it
does.
Is
it
creates
life
lessons
through
through
adversity
and
through
challenges,
and
then
I
create
challenges
and
our
host
I'll
create
challenges
for
the
boys
that
go
through
that
for
when
they,
the
game.
B
Basketball
game
should
be
easy
and
be
fun,
but
the
ultimate
goal
is
to
prepare
them
for
life
and
success
after
whatever
sport
or
you
know,
business
they
go
into
where
they
can
be
successful
in
that,
because
they
have
to
work
together,
which
you
know
you
have
to
work
together
when
you
work
with
your
your
whatever
business
you
go
into
or
you
always
have
to
have
a
boss.
So
you
have
to
listen
to
your
boss,
I've.
B
Even
as
the
the
head
honcho,
you
may
think
there's
always
someone
of
a
higher
power
over
thats,
okay,
but
I.
Think
that
that
this.
This
is
why
I
I
know
I'm
in
the
coaching:
it's
not
about
hey
I'm,
a
coach,
it's
not
about
the
ego
or
pride.
You
know
we
got
a
win,
win
win.
You
know
each
year
you
know
I'm
not
very
happy
that
we
had
it
silver
ball.
I
mean
that
was
my
goal.
He
knows,
I
mean
Omega.
You
think
you
came
under
this
year
making
what
comments
I
wanna.
B
Right
he
want
to
win
the
gold
ball
and
it
we
came
up
short,
so
I
mean,
but
it
did
so
much
for
the
school
morale
like
we
talked
about
earlier
Morales
up
everyone's
looking
forward
to
the
future
of
us.
Are
you
know,
participating
again
each
year,
I
mean
he's,
probably
gonna,
be
a
target
on
my
back,
which
we
embrace
that,
let's.
A
Talk
about
next
year,
you've
committed
to
you
tab
and
kind
of
walk.
You
walk
me
through
it
kind
of
what
what
your
plans
are
for
years
to
come,
how.
C
C
So
they
needed
a
point
guard
and
I
was
gonna
bring
him
a
point
guard
as
many
other
schools
that
wanted
many
point
guards
and
like
three
or
four
so
to
be
harder
to
wake
and
I
want
to
go
in
I
want
to
play
so
I
mean
it's
not
gonna
be
easier,
but
I'm.
Just
gonna
put
in
my
way
to
get
on
the
court
as
well.
A
B
Russell
he
takes
a
lot
of
heat.
Wish
ya
know,
is
there
are
similarities?
Are
there
similarities
between
them?
The
burst
similar
to
a
lot
of
plays
he's
very
talented.
Omega
is
but
I
think
he
eat.
You
know
each
system
will
be
different.
He
touched
on
I
want
to
get
confused,
I
think
he
said
something
about.
You
know
where
he's
wanted
and
needed.
I
think
he
wanted
to
don't
get
that
mixed
up
with
forest,
he's
afraid
of
competition.
That
there's
other
point
guards.
B
There
he's
the
hardest
worker
every
day
day
in
day
out,
not
really
vocally
as
much
as
but
but
I'ma
show
you.
You
know
he's
first
and
everything
we
do.
He
works
extra
and
everything
for
his
weight
room
so
far
as
when
it
comes
to
working
out
and
doing
his
job
he's
trying
to
be
at
the
top
and
I
think
once
he
knows
you
mature
as
other
areas
that
he'd
get
stronger
at
and
he's
going
to,
I
mean
coach
that
he
he's
going
through
Tim
Floyd
coach
NBA
on
the
highest
level.
B
B
Yeah,
that's
not
like,
oh
that
I
mean
if
each
year
you
know
you
32
teams,
only
one
can
get
go,
and
this
year
we
can
step
closer
each
year,
we're
getting
farther
and
farther.
So
it
has
to
be
go
next
year.
You
know,
because
we've
reached
every
level
in
four
years,
so
clinical
be
dentists,
go
bald
and
go
on
well.
