From YouTube: MAPS for Kids Showcase - John Marshall High School
Description
OKC Public Schools and The City of Oklahoma City have teamed up to bring you updates on all the improvements being made under the MAPS for Kids program.
This edition features John Marshall High School
A
It
serves
650
students
in
grades,
seven
through
12,
and
the
20
million
dollar
facility
comes
equipped
with
three
FEMA
approved:
safe
rooms,
science,
labs,
a
1500
seat
gymnasium
and
a
brand
new
auditorium
for
student
performances
and
since
its
opening,
the
Bears
have
been
busy
maintaining
school
pride
in
offering
students
a
robust
academic
program.
So
much
so
we
had
to
change
sets
today
because
there's
so
much
to
talk
about.
So
let's
get
right
into
the
great
programs
and
happenings
at
John,
Marshall,
High,
School
and
joining
us
first
on
the
showcase
today
is
mr.
A
A
B
We're
very
appreciative
for
Devin
for
giving
us
our
grant
fulfilling
that
we
have
a
touch
tank
installed,
that
our
students
have
been
able
to
use.
It's
an
Atlantic
touch
tank,
so
it's
animals-
they
wouldn't
normally
see
on
bringing
in
marine
life
into
the
school
to
where
students
can
actually
interact
with
their
hands
in
the
tank
and
get
to
interact
with
mr.
for
animals.
Let's.
A
B
A
B
Miss
Gustafson,
it
was
her
idea
initially
and
then
I
kind
of
piggyback
with
her
to
help
her
write
the
grant,
but
she
saw
one
on
and
she
used
to.
She
has
a
ton
of
animals
in
her
room.
That's
one
of
the
things
that
kids
love
about
her
class,
and
so
she
saw
that
as
a
great
opportunity
to
bring
in
something
they've,
otherwise
wouldn't
be
able
to
interact
with
so.
B
B
Have
been
able
to
learn
about
different
marine
organisms,
they
otherwise
wouldn't
be
able
to
interact
with
especially
coming
from
the
Atlantic
Ocean,
where
most
of
our
students
might
only
have
access
to
the
Gulf.
Also
how
to
build
up
that
tank
and
that
something
Aaron
can
probably
help
me
explain
a
little
better
too
yeah.
C
A
C
A
A
Thank
you
very
much
Erin.
You
did
an
amazing
job
and
thank
you
both
so
much
for
appearing
on
the
showcase
today
we're
very
proud
of
the
work
that
both
of
you
are
doing
at
John
Marshall.
You
are
to
be
commended,
so
please
keep
us
updated
on
how
the
aquarium
is
going
and
just
keep
up
the
good
work
up.
Next
we're
going
to
switch
topics
a
little
bit
and
tell
you
about
a
program
that
is
preparing
students
to
enter
the
financial
career
field.
You
want
to
stick
around
for
this,
because
this
is
pretty
amazing.
A
D
A
Welcome
back
here's
a
look
at
the
roosevelt
middle
school
leadership
academy.
These
are
some
of
the
brightest
students
at
the
school
and
this
semester.
The
leadership
team
has
been
busy
visiting
with
local
and
state
elected
officials
and
learning
about
the
different
branches
of
government
and
March
the
student
to
spend
a
full
week
in
Washington
DC
meeting
with
national
leaders
and
learning
about
our
nation's
capital.
A
They
even
got
to
meet
mayor
Mick
Cornett,
while
they
were
here
in
town
and
on
today's
show
we're
taking
a
look
at
John,
Marshall,
High,
School
and
all
the
great
things
that
are
happening
in
the
school
that,
maybe
you
don't
know
about.
The
school
is
partnered
with
the
National
Academy
Foundation,
to
offer
a
finance
Career
Academy
for
students
in
grades
9
through
12
joining
us
today
on
the
showcase
bright
stars
at
John,
Marshall,
High
School,
the
principal
espacio
Carlson.
We
have
Leonard
Leveson,
the
third
and
Sierra
Butler.
Thank
you
all
for
being
with
us
today.
A
A
F
Are
actually
in
our
second
year
the
Academy?
So
right
now
it
is
ninth
and
tenth
graders.
The
goal
is
really
to
have
a
partnership
with
our
community
businesses
and
be
able
to
offer
them
incoming
entry-level
employees
who
have
all
the
skills
that
they're
looking
for.
So
we
have
an
advisory
board
of
27
local
business
members.
They
come
and
work
with
our
students,
their
mentors.
They
assist
them
with
projects
in
the
future
when
they
get
to
be
seniors.
They'll
also
have
work
placed
into
internships
with
those
business
members,
and
so
it's
really
a
mutually
beneficial
program.
F
A
So
I've
always
had
a
problem
with
number,
so
this
is
so
impressive
to
me
that
high
school
students
are
working
in
the
career
field
and
also
getting
the
work
that
they
need
to
prepare
to
enter
the
career
field.
So
let's
talk
about
how
many
students
participate
and
what
kind
of
courses
are
they
taking
right.
F
Now
we
have
55
students,
our
9th
graders
and
10th
graders
as
freshmen.
They
will
take
principles
of
finance
and
finite
financial
services
as
sophomores.
They
take
business
economics
and
entrepreneurship
Wow
as
juniors
they
take
accounting,
one
and
accounting,
two
and
as
seniors,
then
they
are
able
to
get
their
internship
and
actually
work
in
a
business
that
they
have
been
training
for,
along
with
their
mentor.
Why.
F
One
of
the
things
that
we
noticed
from
talking
to
our
business
members
was
that
even
the
college
level,
students
that
come
in
to
a
entry-level
position
don't
have
some
of
the
soft
skills
that
they
need.
That
can
range
from
communication
to
interviewing
to
just
basic
customer
service
skills.
Along
with
that,
you
have
math
and
other
types
of
subject
areas
that
specifically
business
people
are
looking
for
when
they're
hiring.
F
So
it's
very
important
for
our
students
not
only
to
have
the
content
knowledge,
but
also
to
have
the
people
skills
and
the
customer
service
skills
that
they
need
to
have
businesses
that
are
successful.
It
really
affects
our
local
economy
and
so
being
able
to
offer
that
for
our
students
and
our
businesses
benefits
everyone.
I'm.
F
Using
I
just
would
like
to
mention
Tinker
federal
credit
union.
We
okie
new
york
life
insurance.
You
see,
oh
those
are
just
a
few
of
the
many
that
we
have
working
with
us
and
they
just
provide
great
opportunities.
For
example,
dr.
Mary
sheets
from
you
CEO
is
training
our
students
for
the
Vita
federal
tax
preparation.
Last
year
we
did
free
taxes
for
two
weeks
before
April
fifteenth,
and
this
year
our
students
are
training
again,
so
people
can
come
to
John
Marshall
during
the
times
that
we
offer
tax
prep
and
get
their
taxes
done
and.
F
A
D
The
class
has
really
helped
me
understand
about
the
cost
of
life,
like
our
parents
really
able
to
sit
down
and
tell
us
that
rent
is
going
to
be
this
smudge
and
girl.
Shoes
are
going
to
be
this
much,
and
this
causes
a
lot
for
me
to
understand
that,
in
order
for
me
to
keep
the
lifestyle,
I
want
to
have
to
make
a
certain
amount
of
money
and
for
me
to
have
the
luxuries
I
want
I
have
to
really
keen
on
the
career
I
like.
So
it's
really
helped
me
understand
what
I
need
to
do,
and.
A
Budgeting,
that's
what
it
sounds
like
I
mean
I
had
no
idea
about
budgeting
when
I
graduated
from
high
school,
so
you're
ahead
of
the
curve
for
sure
and
Leonard.
You
have
reason
to
really
really
rag,
because
you
serve
on
the
student
board
of
directors
for
the
federal
reserve
bank
of
kansas,
the
Oklahoma
City
branch.
So
tell
me
how
you
got
that
honor
and
what
all
does
that
entail?
Well.
G
Actually,
it
was
from
his
markers.
She
just
asked
me
if
I
wanted
to
be
on
the
student
board
and
I
said
yes,
so
she
got
me
all.
The
paperwork
and
I
wrote
the
paper
and
sent
in
help
me
send
in
my
stuff
and
I
make
I
got
accepted
and
there
we
talked
about
how
to
be
like
leaders
have
be
in
this
economy
that
we
were
going
to
have
now
she's.
G
A
You
always
been
good
with
numbers
in
finance.
It's
really
helped
you
be
really
good
with
numbers
and
to
have
an
appreciation
of
accounting
and
finance,
and
that's
really
good.
Something
else
that
John
Marshall
can't
out
is
a
great
partnership
with
Tinker
federal
credit
union
I.
Don't
think
people
know
there
is
an
in-school
branch
at
John
Martian.
We
have
students
who
are
processing
requests
from
people
who
are
members
of
Tinker
federal
credit
union.
So
tell
us
about
that.
Partnership
right.
F
And
we
have
an
in-school
branch
at
John
Marshall.
The
students
that
are
tellers
they're
actually
go
and
train
at
Tinker
federal
credit
union.
So
now
they
have
the
skills
to
really
work
in
any
credit
union
or
bank.
They
can
get
a
great
paying
entry-level
job
at
this
time.
The
seniors
are
the
ones
who
work
in
the
bank
eventually
eventually
it'll,
be
the
Academy
students
as
they
move
up
in
grades,
and
they
just
acquire
all
the
skills
that
they
need
for
a
great
job
working
in
a
credit
union
or
bank.
It's.
A
F
All
of
our
financial
students
are
going
to
be
going
to
the
business
professionals
of
America
convention
in
tulsa
and
they'll
go
there
and
be
able
to
interact
with
other
students
that
are
also
in
similar
type
programs
and
they
participate
in
investor
challenges
and
learn
about
investment
and
what
kinds
of
skills
they
need
to
have
they
actually
get
to
do
mock
investments
as
well
and
participate
in
challenges,
so
they
have
a
lot
of
opportunities
to
really
get
to
hone
their
skills
and
learn
more
about
the
financial
world.
Do.
D
A
A
So,
thank
you
all
for
everything
that
you
do
at
John,
Marshall
doing
a
great
job,
mrs.
Carlson.
After
the
break,
we're
going
to
talk
to
the
former
NFL
player,
who
is
now
coaching,
the
john
marshall
high
school
varsity
football
team
will
learn
about
his
plans
to
take
the
team
to
a
state
championship
in
just
a
bit.
But
first
we
want
to
show
you
an
amazingly
talented
artist
in
our
district.
Jose
Soto
is
a
senior
at
southeast
high
school,
and
this
is
a
20-foot
art
installation.
He
just
finished.
G
G
D
A
Sean
woods
is
a
two-time
all-american
football
player
from
Oklahoma
State
born
and
raised
in
Oklahoma
City
woods
returned
home
to
coach,
the
john
marshall
high
school
varsity
football
team
and
he
joins
us
today
on
the
map
for
kid
showcase,
along
with
one
of
his
talented
football
players.
Kailyn
love.
Thank
you
all,
both
for
being
here
thanks
Erin,
okay,
let's
talk
about
you
served
as
assistant
football
coach
at
star
Spencer
and
also
at
millwood,
but
this
is
your
first
time
as
head
coach.
So
why
John
Marshall
a.
H
Couple
of
the
teachers
administrators
got
in
contact
with
me
about
the
job
and
at
the
time
I
didn't
know
if
I
was
interested
in
doing
it
and
I
after
visiting
with
them
and
and
walking
through
the
screw
school
I
knew
it
was
a
place
for
me,
and
so
I
decided
to
take
that
leap
and
and
give
it
everything.
I've
got
and
I'm
glad
I
did
is.
A
H
When
I
got
there
the
community
for
the
most
part,
it
wasn't
quite
the
same,
but
now
that
we've
been
there
year
and
they
can
see
the
improvements
there,
they're
everywhere
I
mean
they
really
want
to
see
us
to
do
well,
and
they
understand
that
it's
a
process
and
I'm
thankful
for
that,
and
so
it's
a
process
where
this
past
year
we
did
well
but
I,
think
I
believe
that
we
can
continue
to
do
better
and
they
believe
that
as
well.
So
you
know,
morale
is
very
high.
Let's.
H
Well,
very
young
team.
This
year
we
have
six
seniors
coming
in
for
the
next
year.
Kaitlyn
love
is
when
a
guy
one
of
the
guys
he
plays
tight
in
and
inside
linebacker
for
sk
Bowden
is
a
guy
who
plays
a
fullback
and
linebacker,
and
so
those
guys
I'm
expecting
to
be
good
leaders
for
us
this
year
being
seniors
and
we
have
a
ton
of
juniors
sophomores
and
even
a
really
big
freshman
class.
That
will
be
a
very,
very
talented
and
I
think
very
good
for
us
moving
forward
as.
H
H
My
mouth,
in
my
mind
and
kind
of
my
approach,
this
coming
up
season
is
every
team
wants
to
win.
I
mean
championship
is
always
in
that
fo,
but
again
this
year.
For
us
it's
a
situation
where
I'm
going
to
be
proud
of
them,
no
matter
how
many
games
we
win
the
whole
deal
here
and
what
I
wanted
the
culture
that
I
want
to
build
us
a
program
overall,
a
place
where
kids
can
come
and
they
enjoy
coming
to
practice.
We
keep
kids
out,
they
don't
they're
gonna
quit
or
leave
the
team.
H
We
did
a
great
job
of
that
this
past
year
and
I
believe
will
have
over
60
kids
this
year
to
come
out,
and
so
we
want
to
keep
all
those
guys
out,
keep
them
involved
and
let
them
know
that
they're
part
of
something
that
is
bigger
than
themselves
and
I
believe
that
we're
doing
that
championships
will
come.
We
have
seven
returning
starters
on
both
sides
of
the
ball
and
I'm
excited
about
that
and
I
have
a
young
freshman
class
that
that'll
be.
That
would
really
maybe
really
well
last
year,
so
I'm
excited
and.
A
E
As
soon
as
he
got
on
campus,
it
was
a
big
change.
Everybody's
mentality
changed,
everybody
was
excited
to
get
in
there,
work
out,
get
out
there
and
work
on
the
field.
We
he's
also
changed
as
academically.
He
has
study
groups
for
us
to
do
after
either
before
practice
or
after
practice.
Anytime
he's
hired
tutors
and
got
us
a
well.
We
can
all
be
together
and
working
to
up
our
grades
to
so
not
not.
A
E
E
Much
more
than
the
coach,
because
he
cares
about
us
a
lot
more
than
a
lot
of
coaches
I've
had
he's
he's
constantly
in
the
hallway
is
looking
for
is
trying
to
make
sure
we're
in
class
he's
always
a
you
know,
coming
into
the
classrooms,
making
sure
we're
doing
our
work
staying
focused,
and
he
also
will
help
us
during
weekends
or
any
other
times.
He
will
drive
some
students
to
work
it.
They
need
to
need
a
ride
and
he's
just
there
all
the
time
whenever
we
need
them
good.
A
H
That
that's
the
commitment
that
that
I
promised
them
and
and
coming
in
you
I'm,
not
a
coach
and
I,
don't
want
to
give
them
the
idea
that
I'm
only
concerned
about
winning
and
when
people
talk
about
championships.
I
know
those
who
come
I
mean
I've
played
on
the
great
coaches,
I've
been
in
that
as
a
player
and
does
just
understand
there's
a
certain
way.
You
have
to
do
things.
H
If
you
do
things
the
right
way,
then
the
results
will
come
and
so
making
sure
their
grades
or
where
they
need
to
be
I,
know
it's
important
to
him,
because
those
were
some
of
the
same
things
that
were
important
to
me.
I
want
to
go
to
school.
If
I
had
an
opportunity
to
play
football
at
the
next
level,
I
knew
that
was
important
to
me
and
going
in
I
know
that's
important
to
all
of
them,
but
at
the
same
time
I.
H
Let
them
know
that
it's
only
a
service,
small
percentage
of
guys
who's
going
to
are
going
to
get
a
scholarship,
and
so
you
have
to
understand
that
and
I'm
not
going
to
come
out
here
and
tell
you,
can
will
come
out
and
play
football.
So
you
can
get
a
scholarship
because
then
I'll
be
lying
to
you.
The
truth
is
everybody
won't
get
one,
but
what
I
promise
to
you
is
that
we're
going
to
make
sure
we
have
the
programs
and
have
the
people
involved
in
your
life.
H
That's
going
to
help
you
whether
or
not
you
get
a
scholarship
and
not
to
get
in
college,
and
so
that's
what
I
want
to
bring
that's
the
culture
that
I
want
to
bring
to
John
Marshall
so
that
they
know
that
hey
not
only
they're,
giving
everything
to
the
school
and
to
the
football
program
that
I'm
going
to
give
back
to
them
as
well,
and
so
that's
very
important
to
me.
Thank.
