From YouTube: Squeeze Every Drop - Wi-Fi Controllers
Description
Robert Reaves explains how you can make your irrigation system smarter with a weather-based EPA WaterSense labeled Wi-Fi smart controller. If you own a smartphone, this is a great way to save water and take control of your outdoor water use.
A
Hi
I'm
Robert
Reeves
with
the
city
of
Oklahoma,
City,
Utilities
Department.
If
you're
looking
to
upgrade
your
sprinkler
controller,
why
not
consider
installing
a
smart,
Wi-Fi
controller
that
can
be
programmed
through
your
smartphone
or
computer?
These
controllers
use
local
weather
station
data
to
make
watering
schedule
changes.
People
who
are
comfortable
using
smartphones
can
easily
transition
from
a
standard,
knob
and
dial
controller
to
a
Wi-Fi
smart
controller.
Many
smart,
Wi-Fi
controllers
on
the
market
use
smart
scheduling.
This
means
you
select
a
soil
type
plant
type
sun
exposure,
slope
and
sprinkler
type.
A
The
controller
software
takes
that
information
and
create
a
customized
watering
schedule
for
every
zone.
While
looking
at
the
current
weather
data
and
short
term
forecasts
to
make
watering
decisions,
that's
smart.
Most
of
the
residential
smart
Wi-Fi
controllers,
have
a
free,
app
and
free
weather
updates
from
local
weather
stations.
Once
the
controller
is
connected
to
your
home's
Wi-Fi,
you
either
set
up
the
controller
at
the
controller's
touch
screen
on
your
computer
or
on
your
smartphone,
and
should
you
need
a
sprinkler
repair?
A
You
can
even
send
your
contractor
an
access
code
to
operate
the
controller
from
the
contractors
smartphone.
One
of
the
first
questions-
people
ask
is
how
much
water
will
I
save
the
amount
of
water
you'll
say
really
depends
on
the
current
water
use.
If
your
landscape,
water
use
is
high,
you
have
the
potential
to
save
25
to
50
percent
of
the
number
of
gallons
of
used
for
irrigation
water
savings
potential
is
highest
during
the
spring
and
fall
seasons
when
people
typically
over
water
with
standard
controllers.
A
Let's
take
a
look
at
some
of
the
products
on
the
market.
All
these
products
here
have
the
EPA
WaterSense
label
for
them
to
earn
this
label
landscape.
Irrigation
controllers
must
be
able
to
adequately
meet
the
watering
needs
of
a
landscape
pub
without
over
watering
for
a
complete
list
of
all
controllers
with
the
EPA
WaterSense
label
visit

Since
you
can
actually
view
performance
reports
from
the
irrigation
associations,
SWAT
testing
program
by
visiting
SWAT
tested,
org
good
news
for
Oklahoma
City
Metro
residents,
all
Wi-Fi
smart
controllers
can
be
programmed
to
meet
odd-even
watering
measures.
A
We've
been
on
uneven
watering
measure
since
April
of
2013
random,
free
sensors
can
be
added
to
all
of
these
controllers
to
provide
quick,
shut
off
in
the
event
of
rain
or
freezing
temperatures.
So,
if
you're
ready
to
replace
your
existing
sprinkler
controller,
try
a
Wi-Fi
smart
controller,
it's
like
having
a
weather
station
in
your
own
backyard.
Your
schedules
be
updated
automatically,
and
it's
literally
like
having
water
management
in
the
palm
of
your
hand

every
drop.
