Oldsmar Mayor Eric Seidel and Safety Harbor Mayor Joe Ayoub have joined together to promote a new program that encourages residents and businesses to help clean up the waters of Upper Tampa Bay.

In partnership with Tampa Bay Watch, the ‘Save Our Bay’ Program will officially launch on Saturday, December 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the Pier Shelter of R.E. Olds Park, located at 107 Shore Drive West in Oldsmar. The kick-off event involves creating Vertical Oyster Gardens to hang from private docks.

Staff will provide supplies for participants to string oyster shells on rope materials, which will attract live oysters to attach and grow the oyster garden.

Hello: everyone, I'm mayor eric seidel here in the beautiful city of oldsmar, we're standing on my dock today. Hey. How would you like to get involved in saving the bay we'd love to have you come help? Let me tell you what we're doing we're partnering with safety, harbor and mayor joe ayub, and we're encouraging all our residents to hang vertical oyster gardens, and you hang them from your dock and what you may not know is, while they're good to eat once they get hung and it takes a little time for them to adapt.

They actually attract oysters to them and they can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day and that's some nice clean water going into our bay. So if you don't have a dock, that's okay! You can come right out and help us. We need volunteers to help string them up. It's like streaming popcorn on christmas.

It's a lot of fun to do we'll need some more help with monitoring and those all the other stuff that goes along with this project, but we'd like you to come out december 11th at the orioles park at nine o'clock.
