From YouTube: Human Rights Commission Meeting | October 14th, 2020
Description
No description was provided for this meeting.
If this is YOUR meeting, an easy way to fix this is to add a description to your video, wherever mtngs.io found it (probably YouTube).
A
It's
5
31.
A
I
will
call
to
order
the
human
rights
commission
meeting
for
the
city
of
palm
springs
on
tuesday
october
13.
2020
first
item
up
on
our
agenda
today
is
the
approval
of
minutes
from
september
14th.
A
A
That's
correct!
All
right!
We
move
on
to
item
six
commissioner
staff
and
student
comments.
Commissioner
flood,
would
you
like
to
start
us
off
today
with
any
any
comments?
I
have
nothing
at
this
time.
Thank
you.
A
Moving
around
commissioner
shepard.
A
B
Actually
I
do
there
is
a
the
visitor
on
with
us
that
I
will
share
more
about
later,
but
ella
cash
submitted
her
application
to
be
considered
as
a
student
rep.
So
so
ella
is
here
visiting
us
and
I
will
share
more
about
her.
This
is
so
ella
hi
welcome.
A
Welcome
ella
and
last
for
commissioner
comments,
commissioner
romero.
D
Welcome
ella
we're
excited
to
hear
about
where
your
which
school
you
attend
and
everything
so,
but
I'm
really
excited
just
a
quick
note,
and
I
know
we
we
didn't
meet
yesterday
because
we
were
observing
indigenous
people's
day.
So
I
wanted
to
just
you
know
stress
that
that
was
one
of
the
things
that
we
discussed
here
at
the
human
rights
commission
and
I'm
really
proud
about
that
and
excited
to
have
this.
You
know
this
agenda.
Thank
you.
A
Excellent
and
thank
you
all
jay
any
comments.
A
Okay,
very
good
and,
as
commissioner
ramron
mentioned,
the
commission
moved
to
postpone
or
move
our
scheduled
meeting
from
yesterday,
because
yesterday
was
indigenous
people's
day.
We
tend
to
try
not
to
do
things
just
for
superficial
purposes
and
I'd
like
to
just
share
that
yesterday
was
indigenous
people's
day.
A
A
A
A
A
So
next
up
we've
got
presentations
and
guest
speakers
item.
7A
jay
is
calling
in
anthony
mahia,
maybe.
C
That's
correct,
mr
chair:
he
should
be
joining
joining
us
shortly.
I
think
he
had
a
couple
items
to
present.
I
think
we're
set
with
our
appointees
for
the
equity
and
social
justice
committee,
but
I
think
he
had
just
a
few
more
words
to
say
in
regards
to
that.
C
A
While
we
wait
for
the
city
clerk
to
share
with
us
a
we,
we
did
have
and
we
asked
last
meeting
for
any
commissioners
who
would
be
interested
in
serving
on
the
equality,
our
equity
and
social
justice
committee.
A
We
did
have
two
commissioners
throw
their
hat
into
the
ring
and
at
our
executive
committee
meeting
this
month,
our
discussion
was
around
the
table
that
we,
let's
listen
to
the
rules
and
guidelines
that
are
set
and
will
be
shared
with
us
by
the
city
clerk,
and
then
we
will
step
back
and
make
sure
that
or
if
there's
other
interest
from
other
commissioners
folks
are
certainly
able
to
throw
their
hat
in
the
ring.
And
then
we
will
decide
on
the
final
two
candidates.
A
And
I
don't
see,
I
don't
see
the
city
clerk
on,
so
we
can
come
back
to
this
item
when
when
we
see
him
sign
on
and
jfu
help
me
watch
out
for
that,
we'll
come
back
to
7a
item
7b
is
going
to
be
set
aside.
Since
commissioner
ames
is
not
at
our
meeting
today
and
we'll
move
on
to
item
eight
items
for
discussion
committees,
the
committee's
chair
structure.
A
First
up,
we've
got
the
community
relations
committee
budget
and
personnel
committee
that
has
quite
a
few
subgroups
on
it
and
we
take
this
time
to
get
reports
from
our
subgroups.
If
there
are
reports
to
come
in
and
first
up
is
the
palm
springs
police
department,
lgbt
outreach
committee.
C
And
your
city
clerk
has
joined
the
meeting.
A
Oh
sweet,
okay!
Well,
let's
finish
with
this
item
and
then
we'll
come
back
to
anthony,
so
the
palm
springs
police
department,
lgt
lgbtq,
outreach
committee.
A
It
really
has
spent
a
little
bit
of
time,
looking
at
its
mission
and
its
purpose
and
in
these
last
month
really
has
gone
through
and
reidentified
its
commitment
to
the
mission
statement
of
that
advisory
group
and
to
define
the
purpose
to
have
a
better
sense
for
the
community
to
understand
what
the
advisory
committee
does
and
I
just
wanted
to
share
the
working
purpose
that
is
on
the
table
for
the
group,
and
that
is
that
the
palm
springs
police
department.
A
So
I
applaud
the
committee's
work
on
defining
purpose
and
that's
the
update
for
from
that
committee.
For
the
month.
Master
calendar
is
commissioner
romeron
as
heading
up
that
effort,
and
we
really
haven't
had
a
start
on
that.
So
I'm
not
expecting
an
update,
but
commissioner
omron,
if
you
have
any
update
at
you're,
welcome
to
share
it.
D
I
don't
have
an
update,
but
I
I
appreciate
the
the
attachments
for
for
this
meeting,
which
includes
a
calendar
and
one
of
the
things
you
know
we
did
start
with
indigenous
people's
day
in
its
observation
and
actually
like
that.
There
is
a
section
where
we
look
at
the
sort
of
dates
that
we
we
observe
in
terms
of
awareness
in
the
city
of
palm
springs.
I
think
that
really
helps
guide
us,
but
I
also
you
know,
as
as
I
work
on
the
master
calendar,
I
will
will
look.
D
I
will
look
at
deficiencies
if
you
will
look
meaning
looking
at
how
we
can
very
much
look
at
inclusive
ways
of
how
these
awareness
months
and
these
awareness
dates
mean.
You
know
what
they
mean
to
the
city
of
palm
springs
and
how
we
do
enact
them.
A
And,
of
course,
you
would
bring
any
suggestions
and
thoughts
back
to
the
full
commission
and
the
commission
will
have
discussion
and
over
that
and
adopt
anything
that
we
would
change
onto
the
calendar.
So
that's
good
you'll
be
off
to
a
great
start,
no
updates
from
the
main
street
meeting
finance.
A
So
we
will
be
looking
for
another
committee
member
who
could
join
that
subcommittee
and
actually
somebody
to
step
in
as
chair
of
that
committee
going
forward
and
we'll
discuss
committees
a
little
bit
short
later
in
the
meeting
in
organized
neighborhoods
of
palm
springs.
I'm
not
sure
we
had
a
representative
participated
in
the
meeting.
Did
anybody
get
to
participate?
C
I
was
not
in
participation,
mr
chair.
A
Okay,
excellent
all
right,
that's
it
for
that's
that
section
of
committees
and
item
8a.
Before
we
move
on
to
cultural
affairs,
we've
got
the
city
clerk
anthony
mahia
on
the
line.
That's
going
to
share
background
information
on
the
equity
and
social
justice
committee.
Thank
you
for
being
with
us
city
clerk.
E
I
said
thank
you
for
and
having
me
here
chaired
to
heart
and
I'm
gonna
go
ahead
and
share
my
screen,
so
I
just
want
to
give
you
a
pre
presentation
on
the
voting
locations
within
palm
springs
so
that
you
can
share
it
with
your
network
of
people.
E
E
We
do
have
early
voting
throughout
the
county.
The
closest
location
is
the
palm
desert,
westfield
mall,
and
that's
going
to
be
october,
23rd
to
the
25th
from
10
to
4.
E
Those
are
going
to
begin
on
october
23rd
through
november,
2nd
and
they're,
going
to
be
open
from
8
to
5
and
on
election
day
from
7
a.m,
to
8
p.m,
and
our
three
locations
are
the
du
mouth
community
center,
the
james
o,
jesse
desert
highland
unity
center
and
the
palm
springs
library
at
these
locations,
you'll
be
able
to
drop
off
your
ballot.
E
If
you
don't
have
your
ballot,
but
are
a
registered
voter
you'll
be
able
to
you'll,
be
given
a
new
electronic
system
where
you
can
go
ahead
and
vote
there,
and
then
your
vote
will
be
deposited
with
the
county
registrar
of
voters
and,
if
you're
not
already
registered
to
vote.
California
now
has
same-day
voter
registration.
E
E
They'll
be
able
to
immediately
register
you
to
vote
and
you'll,
be
able
to
cast
your
ballot
and
have
it
counted.
It
won't
need
to
be
a
provisional
ballot
again
because
they
have
a
live
connectivity
to
the
database
and
I'm
happy
to
answer
any
questions.
C
Mr
chair,
let
me
chime
in
mr
city
clerk.
As
you
know,
we
did
discuss
having
you
also
address
the
equity
and
social
justice
committee
which
select
members
for
at
our
at
our
last
meeting.
So
I
just
want
to
see
if
there
was
any
additional
information
that
our
equity
and
social
justice
committee
members
should
know
about
sure.
E
I'm
happy
to
share
some
give
you
some
updates,
so
we
are
draft,
are
drafting
an
application
for
people
to
apply
to
serve
on
the
social
and
equity
equity.
I'm
sorry,
the
equity
and
social
justice
committee
and
the
two
council
members
who
are
the
liaisons
are
council
members
grace
garner
and
mayor
pro
tim
christie
hostage.
E
They
did
review
the
application
a
couple
days
ago
and
approved
it,
so
I'm
going
to
create
a
fillable
application
that
can
be
completed
online
and
transmitted
to
us
via
email
and
once
that's
completed,
we're
going
to
leave
the
recruitment
period
open
for
about
a
period
of
a
month
to
solicit
applications.
And
then
the
subcommittee
will
review
those
applications
and
then
determine
whether
everyone
should
be
on
the
committee
or
if
they
want
to
narrow
it
down,
and
then
that
final
list
will
go
to
the
city
council
for
approval
and
then
the
work
will
begin.
C
And
it
was
our
understanding
that
two
members
of
the
human
rights
commission
were
requested
to
participate.
Yes,
commission
selected
commissioner
romeron
and
shepard.
So
is
there
an
application
required
for
the
hour
to
commit
no.
A
So,
city
clerk,
what
about
the
when
were
the
requirements
for
service
on
the
committee?
When
is
that
part
of
the
application
like
what
background
is
the
is
that,
what's
the
you
know,
what
skills
are
being
sought
out
to
for
member
serving.
A
I
think
that
that
was
the
one
of
the
concerns
we
had.
Is
we
just
want
to
make
sure
that
the
commissioners
that
have
raised
their
hands
that
we're
filming
for
fulfilling
the
the
skill
set
that
is
being
asked
for.
E
Yeah,
so
the
the
council
members
gave
direction
that
they
want
to
make
this
a
very
broad
application,
and
so
there
is
no
prior
service
on
a
border
commission
or
specific
expertise
required
they'll.
Consider,
of
course,
if
somebody
has
a
background
in
the
field
of
social
social
justice,
but
otherwise
they
want
a
diverse
group
of
people
with
different
backgrounds,
whether
they're
working
class,
white-collar,
well-educated
or
just
graduated
high
school.
E
They
want
a
very
broad
group
of
people
to
serve
on
this,
whether
some
some
people
may
have
formerly
been
incarcerated,
but
they
did
not
set
any
specific
requirements
to
serve
on
the
commission
and
we
did
simplify
the
commission
application
so
that
they're
really
just
telling
us
a
little
bit
about
their
background.
E
E
It
also
lifted
the
requirement
on
age
restrictions,
so
anyone
of
any
age
can
apply
for
any
border
commission.
So
basically,
the
only
requirement
is
that
you
have
to
live
work
or
go
to
school
in
palm
springs.
A
Well,
anthony,
I
appreciate
it
and
I
certainly
yeah.
I
want
to
thank
the
city
for
always
having
the
voting
box
available
for
from
the
county
registrar
at
city
hall.
You
know
it's
just
so
great
to
see
the
the
folks
that
are
stopping
in
this
election
cycle.
Dropping
those
ballots
off
so.
E
And
I'm
I'm
happy
to
report
that
it
is
so
popular
this
year.
We
we
just
collected
about
600
ballots
just
this
afternoon,
800
ballots.
E
A
A
Now
we'll
go
back
to
item
eight,
a
cultural
affairs
committee
commissioner,
flood
and
andrade
are
our
point
folks
on
that
community
group,
commissioner
flood
any
update.
I
have
nothing
to
report
that
I've
said.
B
Not
at
this
time,
but
we
will
have
to
start
thinking
about
that.
B
Commissioners
and
residents
can
elect
people
who
make
a
difference
in
our
cube.
B
Unity
for
human
rights
and
the
betterment
of
of
of
the
people
who
live
in
palm
springs.
So
I
guess
that's
something
that
the
ex
executive
committee
has
to
has
has
has
to
look
at
next
yep.
A
So
I
think
you
raised
a
good
timing
point
so
on
the
next
agenda.
We'll
have
the
application
for
the
commission
to
approve,
and
that
will
start
the
process
for
collecting
nominations
from
the
community
and
from
the
commission.
So
we
have
our
first
agenda
item
for
next
next
month.
A
Thank
you
are
the
seniors
people
with
disabilities
veterans
affairs
standing
committee
subcommittee
veterans
issues.
Commissioner
flood,
do
we
have
anything
new
on
veterans
issues.
A
Other
than
the
the
local
american
legion
is
open
under
the
guidelines
under
the
russot
county
in
cdc,
so
I
think
they'll
open
up
the
50
capacity
excellent.
Are
they
serving
food
outside?
Yes,
they
are
serving
food
saturday,
friday,
through
sunday,
lunch
and
brunch
on
sundays,
very
good,
no
more
taco
tuesdays.
A
Get
that
back
all
right:
okay,
commissioner,
chappelle
you're
back
up
with
the
student
representatives
update,
I.
B
Am
back
up
so
we
just
talked
about
this
last
time
we
came
together
because
we
talk
about
it
every
time
and
I
am
out
there
trying
to
locate
some
is.
This.
Is
school-age
com
missioners
who
would
like
to
be
a
part
of
our
group?
I
did
have
an
application
come
my
way
from
ella
cash.
She
is
a
senior
at
palm
springs.
High
school
she's
been
involved
with
the
rotary
and
ella.
I
probably
won't
remember
everything
so
I'm
gonna
have
you
share
once
I'm
done.
B
Okay,
she
has
been
in
a
varsity
water
polo
which
is,
of
course
on
hold,
and
on
this
swim
team
she
is
the
founder
and
the
president
of
the
middle
eastern
club
to
bring
recognition
to
that
culture.
When
I
talked
to
her,
she
was
getting
on
to
discuss.
B
Those
items
but
then
also
had
shared
both
in
her
application
and
when
I
interviewed
her
that
she
has
attended
palm
springs.
High
schools,
particularly
palms
palm
springs
schools,
particularly
palm
springs,
high
school,
which
has
a.
B
Mascot,
which
is
an
indigenous
person
and
she's
not
had
any
education
on
the
culture
of
our
of
the
area
that
we
reside
in
where
the
mascot
is
represented,
and
that's
one
of
her
her
her
questions.
Why
hasn't
that
occurred?
B
She
is
also
has
an
interest
in
in
these
times,
which
I
do
understand
al.
I
think
I
told
you
that
I'm
a
pr
principal
but
there's
a
shortage
of
of
tools
for
people
to
get
on
line
in
these
times
to
act
and
assess
their
classes,
and
you
know
there
there
is
only
one
sh
shot
at
k
through
to
12
education.
B
So
that's
a
concern
of
hers
too.
She
has
a
big
concern
with
the
population
in
our
kim.
B
B
What
diversity
and
inclusion
means
to
her
and
to
her.
It
is
that
there
is
absolute
eco
quality
of
and
for
freedom
to
express
the
various.
B
B
B
Meaning
that
she's
founded
so
with
that
ella,
if
you
can
just
introduce
yourself
anything
that
I
missed
and
anything
that
you
would
like
to
share
with
the
the
with
the
commissioners.
C
Hi,
I'm
ella,
I'm
a
senior
at
palm
springs
high,
like
you
guys
heard
sorry
if
it
is
loud
by
the
way.
C
There
are
a
lot
of
kids
at
this
house,
so
I'm
trying
to
be
in
a
room
where
you
can't
hear
anybody,
but
one
other
thing
that
wasn't
mentioned
is
that
I
well
because
it's
very
recent,
but
I
joined
diversifier
narrative,
which
is
a
group,
that's
working
to
end
racist
curriculum
in
the
school
district
and
also
include
more
diversity
in
literature,
and
things
like
that
and
also
I
was
in
rotary
and
I
actually
was
supposed
to
go
to
rylo,
which
is
like
a
rotary
club
this
year,
but
it
was
cancelled
or
postponed
because
of
copen
and
also
girl
state.
A
All
right
well
welcome,
ella.
We
appreciate
you
being
with
us
and
for
expressing
your
interest
to
serve
on
the
commission,
so
we
we
have
an
opportunity
to
bring
on
another
student.
Commissioner.
A
I
would
suspect
that
vice
chair
will
move,
that
we
accept
ella
cash
as
a
new
commissioner
and
coming
out
of
the
committee,
and
somebody
would
like
to
second
that
please
a
second
then
commissioner.
Flood
is
second
to
that
motion
all
in
favor
of
bringing
allocation
on
as
a
our
new
student
commissioner,
our
student
representative,
my
thumbs
up
or
saying
hi.
A
And
you
feel
free
as
we
move
forward
to
you
know,
you
know,
keep
in
touch
with
vice
chair
chappelle
with
any
particular
questions
you
may
have
on
the
goings-on
for
the
meetings
themselves,
but
we
we
want
you
to
feel
and
be
a
full
participant
in
conversations
that
we
have
going
forward.
Okay,
okay,
welcome.
A
All
right!
Next
up
is
an
item
that
we
have
on
the
agenda
that
came
to
us
from
community
members
at
our
last
meeting,
and
that
was
you
know,
a
request
and
a
conversation
that
was
shared
with
us
on
and
recognizing
the
international
migrant
day
this
year,
which
is
on
december
18..
A
So
I
will
bring
the
item
forward
for
the
commission
to
to
hopefully
support
and
we
can
recognize
international
migrants
day
the
18th
of
december
2020.
throughout
human
history.
Migration
has
been
a
courageous
expression
of
the
individual's
will
to
overcome
adversity
and
to
live
a
better
life.
Today,
globalization,
together
with
advances
in
communications
and
transportation,
has
greatly
increased
the
number
of
people
who
have
the
desire
and
capacity
to
move
to
other
places.
A
Migration
draws
increasing
attention
in
a
world
nowadays
mixed
with
elements
of
unforeseeability,
emergency
and
complexity.
The
challenges
and
difficulties
of
international
migration
require
enhanced
cooperation.
Collective
action
among
countries
and
regions
and
the
united
nations
is
actively
playing
a
catalyst
in
this
role.
On
the
global
front,
they
have
the
aim
of
creating
more
dialogues
and
interactions
within
countries
and
regions,
as
well
as
propelling
experience
and
exchange
of
thought
and
collaboration
of
opportunities.
A
This
was
not
a
day
that
we've
acknowledged
on
the
commission
and
in
order
for
us
to
acknowledge
it
and
have
it
as
one
of
our
international
days
that
we
recognize
it's
it's
on
the
floor
and
we
call
for
a
motion
to
recognize
this
day.
A
All
in
favor
please
thumbs
up
or
say:
hi
hi,
hi
excellent,
there's
no
opposition
jay.
So
this
motion
passes
unanimously
and
commissioner
ramirez,
if
you
can
add
this
to
our
calendar
for
december
18
and
appreciate
craig,
who
I
see
is
on
our
picture
today
for
sharing
the
conversation
with
us
and
and
bringing
it
forward
to
the
commission
last
month.
You
may
ask
a
question
and
let
me
see
jay.
C
A
So
that
will
that
can
come
we're
open
to
suggestions
if
you
have
any
thoughts
and
ideas
that
you
would
like
to
add,
but
primarily
one
of
the
things
that
the
biggest
thing
that
can
come
from
a
reg
day
of
recognition
is
increasing
the
awareness,
putting
some
information
on
to
the
website
for
the
city
on
the
human
rights
commission's
website
and
and
really
help
to
draw
awareness
to
that
particular
day
and
educate,
increase
the
education
within
the
community.
A
Okay.
Thank
you.
Yes,
thank
you.
Okay.
Next
up
we've
got
the
filipino
american
history
month
and
larry
italy
on
day
proclamation
that
is
being
brought
forward
by
commissioner
romeron
and
jay.
Did
we
have
the
draft
sent
out.
A
All
right,
so
it's
an
incredibly
long
proclamation.
We
certainly
will
not
be
able
to
go
through
the
entire
proclamation,
but
commissioner
ramron,
who
has
brought
this
forward.
Thank
you
for
you
know,
making
this
statement
and
I
invite
you
to
share
some
background.
So
the
the
full
commission
can
hopefully
support
and
endorse
the
proclamation
to
move
on
to
city
council.
D
D
Sure
I
think
so
here
it
is
here's
the
draft
as
I
have
it
for
for
us
to
consider.
Actually
it's
not
it's
not
going
to
get
pasting
right
now.
Let
me
see
what
happens
but
the
the
gist.
If
you
will.
A
It's
very
long,
so
that's
why
I've
asked
commissioner
omron
just
to
give
us
a
brief
overview
of
the
intent
and
purpose
and
the
reasoning
behind
the
bringing
the
proclamation
forward.
D
To
give
the
cliff
notes
and
spark
notes
on
my
on
the
proclamation,
here's
the
the
gist
of
it
here
and
apologize.
It's
not
in
a
word
document
right
now.
It's
actually
my
notes.
So
there's
extra
extra
stuff
there
and
that's
where
I'm
like.
A
D
The
highlights
are,
in
the
month
of
october,
has
been
recognized
since
the
the
90s
by
the
filipino-american
national
historical
society
as
as
filipino-american
history
month,
and
one
of
the
things
that
I
did
was
to
help
draft
something
for
the
largest
asian
american
pacific.
D
Islander
group
here
in
palm
springs,
as
well
as
coachella
valley,
a
proclamation
that
observes
october
as
such
as
the
filipino
american
history
month,
and
we
also
included
a
very
very
specific
history
and
I'm
very
one
of
the
things
I'm
very
proud
of,
because
my
family
won,
because
my
family
comes
from
this.
This
early
migration
and
I'm
glad
we're
looking
at
you,
know,
observing
you
know
international
migrants
day
as
well.
Very
much
in
that
history.
The
the
labor
history
for
farmworkers
in
the
60s.
D
Actually,
one
of
the
first
strikes
was
here
in
the
coachella
valley
and
a
lot
of
our
filipino
american
farm
workers
were
here
in
the
valley
during
that
time
period,
and
so
we're
also
observing
larry
italian
day,
which
has
been
proclaimed
by
the
governor
of
california,
governor
newsom
as
october
25th,
which
is
the
birth
date
of
larry
lyon
day.
D
It
was
a
work
of
monong's
manus
as
a
word
for
elder
in
in
some
of
the
filipino
languages
and
it
it
looks
at
this
earlier
bachelor
society
of
farm
workers
that
came
at
the
very
onset
of
the
beginning
of
the
20th
century
and
continued
into
the
60s
and,
as
you
can
imagine,
the
first
great
great
great
delano
strike
was
in
1965.
D
In
the
in
the
fall,
but
we
had
the
first
strike
by
the
filipino
farm
workers
here
in
in
the
coachella
valley
in
the
spring
of
1965,
and
we
wanted
to
commemorate
that.
The
other
big
thing
that
came
out
of
this
is
that
we
look
at
the
history
of
filipinos
as
being
also
coming
from
a
colonial
history
here
in
the
united
states,
but
also
that
you
know
with
the
the
the
coming
together
of
filipino
and
mexican
laborers
and
farm
workers.
D
At
that
time,
it
also
gave
birth
to
the
to
the
new
organization
was
formed
in
the
60s,
which
was
the
united
farm
workers.
So
that's
sort
of
the
the
gist
of
what
we're
looking
at
we're.
Looking
at
this
as
a
very
great
way
to
sort
of
really
give
respect
to
our
filipino
american
and
residents
of
filipino
descent
here
in
palm
springs.
A
Excellent-
and
I
certainly
appreciate
you
taking
the
time
to
craft
the
proclamation
and
bring
it
forward,
one
of
the
important
things
for
you
know.
A
For
you
know
the
commission
is,
is
educating
our
community
and,
and
one
of
the
the
key
elements
here
is
how
our
youth
aren't
necessarily
learning
about
our
early
labor
organizers
and
especially,
you
know,
having
an
awareness
of
you
know,
larry
italong
versus
knowing
who
cesar
chavez
is,
or
dolores
huerta
and
our
our
kids
in
our
communities
certainly
know
cesar
chavez
and
dolores
huerta,
and
I
think
it's
very
important
that
we're
able
to
help
elevate
awareness
of
larry
igelong
and
his
work
in
the
labor
organizing
movement
for
for
all
people.
D
To
hurt,
I
want
to
thank
you.
Actually,
you
you've
been
very
supportive,
and
you
know
we.
We
had
our
first
session
breakfast
here
in
palm
springs,
for
instance,
and
it
was
because
of
chair
de
hart's
work
that
we
have
these
observations
in
in
a
very
much
in
a
community
driven
way
of
looking
at
who
who
are?
Are
you
know
who
who
our
past
leaders
have
been
and
like
this?
This
is
very
much
a
breakthrough.
D
If
you
will-
and
I
I
want
to
thank
you
again
chair
for
for
your
encouragement
and
and
advocacy,
it
means
so
much
to
so
many
of
us.
A
Excellent,
thank
you.
Do
we
have
a
motion
to
move
forward
the
proclamation
request,
city
council
adoption,
commissioner
ramron
you're
not
going
to
move
it.
A
Have
my
family
and
then
I
say
peter
commissioner
owen
is
seconded
second
of
the
motion.
Any
discussion
on
the
proclamation
request
to
city
council
all
in
favor
thumbs
up
or
signify
with
a
yay
and
there's
no
opposition,
so
it
passes
unanimously
jay.
So
this
this
is
intended
to
go
to
city
council
for
city
adoption,
with
recommendation
from
the
human
rights
commission
and
our
liaison.
A
Pro
tem
mayor
pro
tem
hostage
has
received
a
heads
up
on
that.
Okay,
thank
you.
Next,
we
have
just
some
dates
of
awareness
that
we
wanted
to
acknowledge
october.
1St
was
the
international
day
of
older
persons,
october
10,
world
homeless,
day
and
october.
A
17
is
the
international
day
for
the
eradication
of
poverty,
and
those
are
three
dates
that
we
previously
have
acknowledged
and
we
will
next
month
we
will
have
a
the
dates
that
are
being
recognized
for
november
being
shared
with
the
community
by
different
commissioners,
who
will
actually
read
us
a
little
bit
of
background
on
each
of
those
days
and
the
importance
of
them.
A
Next
up,
we've
got
mediation
and
retreat
subcommittees
and
there's
no
action
on
either
of
those
committees.
So
we'll
move
on
to
item
8
b,
which
is
committee
assignments,
and
in
particular
this
has
come
to
the
commission
before,
with
the
request
from
the
sustainability
commission,
at
the
request
of
city
council,
that
human
rights
commission
works
with
sustainability
commission
to
craft
clean
indoor,
air
and
health
protection
ordinance,
that
is,
you
know
in
the
works
to
go
forward
to
city
council.
A
The
human
rights
commission
adopted
a
a
a
formal
draft.
I
don't
think
it
was
called
an
ordinance,
but
a
formal
letter
and
and
the
intent
is
to
combine
our
previously
adopted
language
with
the
sustainability
commission's
language.
So
is
there
anybody
any
commissioner
who
would
like
to
serve
in
that
liaison
role
with
the
sustainability
commission?
It
probably
would
mean
a
couple
meetings
to
to
to
get
together
and
review
the
points
on
on
both
documents
and
and
then
merge.
The
two.
A
A
I
believe
they,
the
sustainability
commission,
has
a
meeting
coming
up
next
week,
so
we'll
follow
up
and
get
you
that
information
and
and
connect
you
with
with
the
point
person
that's
been
in
touch
with
us,
so
committee
committee
assignments
in
general,
everybody
got
the
the
the
correct
committee
structure
and
subcommittee
background
with
the
explanations
to
give
folks
an
idea
of
you
know:
groups
to
reach
out
to
or
pay
a
particular
attention
to
in
in
palm
springs
for
each
of
those
committees.
A
You
know
we
we've
got
a
couple
absences
tonight
and
commissioner
andrade
has
expressed
interest
in
several
committees
that
we
will
certainly
list
list
her
intention,
for
I
invite
you
to
please
send
send
your
your
thoughts
on
the
committees
that
you
would
like
to
serve,
even
if
you
mentioned
them
previously,
send
them.
A
So
we
can
fill
the
slots
for
what's
available,
we'd
like
to
have
two
commissioners
on
each
subcommittee
standing
committee
and
then,
of
course
you
are
welcome
as
the
chair
of
those
committees
to
invite
members
of
the
public
to
serve
with
you
on
these
committees
and
assist
with
the
work
that
needs
to
be
done
within
that
subcommittee.
A
So
I
know
it
was
it's
a
five-page
document
that
has
a
lot
of
information.
I'm
happy
to
answer
any
questions
that
you
may
have
and
leave
it
with
you
to
send
us
your
intention
on
on
the
committees
that
you
would
like
any
questions
that
I
can
help
clarify.
A
Sweet
and
ella-
this
even
includes
you.
There
is
the
at
least
the
subcommittee
on
on
youth
and
and
you'll
serve
with
the
vice
chair,
chappelle
on
that
and
our
student
representative
signoray,
who
was
on
with
our
who
came
on
at
our
last
meeting,
but
you
you're
certainly
welcome
to
look
at
the
other
committees
and
if
there's
committees
of
interest
you,
you
may
find
particular
interest
in
the
cultural
one
of
the
cultural
subcommittees.
A
Particularly
with
you
know,
the
the
comments
you
were
making
about
the
the
mascot
at
palm
springs
high
school,
and
you
may
find
that
interesting,
an
interesting
subcommittee
to
serve
on
okay,
all
right
next,
we
have,
I
might
not
I'm
doing
pretty
good,
not
missing
anything
this
time.
Aren't
they
great
arena?
Okay,
so
we're
on
eight
c
renaming
of
streets-
and
this
is
an
item
that
we
put
on
the
agenda
today
to
get
an
update
from
staff.
C
Very
good,
mr
chair,
so
just
to
get
everyone
up
to
date.
The
renaming
of
crosley
road
and
golf
club
drive
to
lawrence
crossley
road
was
approved
at
the
city
council's
august
6th
meeting.
It
will
not
take
effect
until
january
1
to
avoid
confusion
during
the
november
elections
with
addresses
and
ballots
and
such
I
would
also
imagine
holiday
package
delivery
and
holiday
cards.
C
We
wouldn't
want
those
to
go
to
the
wrong
addresses
staff
had
recommended,
and
the
city
council
approved,
having
dual
signage
on
those
streets
for
a
period
of
five
years.
So
you'll
see
both
street
names
on
those
streets
for
a
while
until
the
transition
is
complete
and
another
important
consideration,
as
the
commission
looks
at
other
possibilities
or
opportunities
for
this
is
to
take
into
consideration
the
impact
on
the
number
of
residents
and
businesses
that
will
be
affected
by
the
change
of
a
street
name.
C
In
the
case
of
lawrence
crossley
road,
there
were
216
residences
whose
addresses
will
be
changed
because
the
street
name
changed
and
20
businesses
will
also
be
impacted
process
wise.
There
is
an
application
that
will
have
to
be
submitted
to
the
planning
commission.
The
planning
commission
will
adopt
a
resolution
either
approving
any
other
street
name
changes.
C
Newspaper
ads
will
be
published
that
will
be
published
along
the
lines
of
a
typical
public
hearing
process
and
the
street
name.
Changes
will
have
to
be
reviewed
by
various
public
agencies
such
as
police,
fire
sheriff
and
postal
service,
and
then
it
would
go
to
city
council
for
approval
so
again
any
opportunities
or
ideas.
The
commission
has,
on
other
street
name
changes
that
sort
of
the
overview
of
what
we
have
to
go
through
to
accomplish
that.
E
A
Yep
so
the
letter
we
got
from
city
manager's
office
in
march
included,
the
lawrence
crossley,
which
you
know
jay
has
already
shared
with
us,
is,
is
taken
care
of.
The
other
names
that
are
listed
are,
is
the
barack
obama
harvey
milk
and
martin
luther
king
jr.
A
So
at
our
last
meeting
we
had
two
commissioners
owen
and
ramaran
express
interest
in
serving
on
that
subcommittee,
so
we
will
leave
it
to
the
two
of
you
to
to
move
move
forward
on
exploring
those
potentials
and
putting
together
a
suggested
path
forward.
You
know
for
for
the
commission
and
for
the
city,
you
know
it's
exploration,
it's
not
set
in
stone
right,
okay,
excellent!
Thank
you.
Jay
appreciate
that
update
all
right.
That
brings
us
to
item
8d,
topical
and
newsworthy
items
coming
around
the
top.
I
see
commissioner,
fled.
D
On
I
want
to
welcome
ella
again,
thank
you
for
taking
it
on
that.
This
is
really
exciting
that
we
have
two
student
representatives
that
would
be
serving
on
our
commission.
Thank
you,
commissioner.
E
Owen
not
at
this
time,
but
again
you
know:
welcome
welcome
ella.
E
B
Ella
delighted
to
have
you
on
board
hope
you'll
enjoy
your
time
with
us,
nothing
to
bring
up
today
except
remind
any
and
everybody
you
know
to
get
out
and
vote.
B
B
My
contact,
so
if
you
have
any
questions
or
the
agenda
doesn't
get
to
why
you
don't
hesitate
to
call.
A
Excellent
jay,
any
updates
for
you
topic
newsworthy.
There
was
a
couple
flyers
in
the
packet.
C
A
Yeah
perfect
all
right
and,
in
addition
to
welcoming
ella
as
the
rest
of
the
commission
has.
The
only
item
I
have
today
is
just
an
update
on
commissioner
ames
he's
resigned
from
the
commission,
so
his
seat
is
open
and
that's
why
we
will
be
seeking
another
leader
for
the
finance
committee.
A
So
we
will,
you
know,
have
somebody
you
know,
help
step
up
to
that
and
take
over
in
his
footsteps,
and
we
certainly
wish
commissioner
ames
well
in
his
endeavors.
He
served.
He
served
the
commission
well
and
brought
a
a
perspective.
That
certainly
was
valued
and
appreciated
and
if
he's
been
told,
if
his
circumstances
ever
change
down
the
road
to
certain,
he
knows
he
knows
where
we're
at
and
he's
welcome
back
okay
agenda
items
for
the
next
meeting
we've
mentioned
previously.
A
We
need
to
have
the
service
community
service
nominations
so
that
will
be
coming
out
of
the
subcommittee,
any
other
specific
agenda
items
we
need
to
address
for
november.
C
C
The
general
plan
is
the
planning
document
for
the
entire
city
and
it
regulates
aspects
of
the
city
having
to
do
with
open
space,
land
noise
and
there's
there's
like
seven
elements
of
the
general
plan
that
are
involved,
but
this
the
city
council,
specifically
as
for
input
from
the
human
rights
commission.
C
Their
interest
in
the
general
plan
was
to
actively
promote
more
inclusiveness
and
they
wanted
to
hear
ideas
from
the
human
rights
commission
on
how
that
could
possibly
be
incorporated
into,
what's
primarily
a
planning
document.
But
I
think
that's
really
an
interesting
opportunity,
and
I
know
some
cities
have
economic
development
elements,
and
so
this
this
would
be
an
interesting
presentation
and
discussion
at
the
next
meeting.
Mr
chair,
if
the
commission
doesn't
mind
adding
that
to
the
agenda
for
next
next
meeting,
yeah.
A
Wonderful
and
if
if
we
can
get
the
the
document,
so
folks
can
can
check
it
out.
If,
if
anybody
is
interested
and
has
has
a
passion
to
combine
human
rights,
work
with
the
planning
planning
department.
A
A
A
So
if,
if
I
see
your
hand
up
first,
it's
going
to
be
you,
if
not,
we
will
invite
one
of
you
to
serve
at
commissioner
vice
chair,
chappelle's
selection.
A
So,
okay,
all
right,
commissioner,
thank
you,
so
you'll
get
it
out
of
the
way
because
it
rotates
so
just
because
other
people
didn't
put
their
hand
up
yet
they'll
get
the
opportunity
soon
right.
E
A
Excellent,
so
we've
got
you
down,
and
now
we
are
on
to
adjournment
for
today.
The
commissioner
will
adjourn
to
an
adjourned
regular
meeting
monday
november,
9th
2020
at
5
30
p.m
via
teleconference.
