They
have
identified
that
the
this
particular
site
is
significant
because
of
its
association
with
henry
pearson,
who
was
a
leading
expert
and
scholar
in
the
development
of
the
rubber
industry.
The
report
notes
that
he
had
gone
on
throughout
his
career
even
into
retirement.
He
was
still
a
predominant
expert
in
this
and
was
often
consulted.

This
particular
one
is
distinctive
because
of
its
overall
architectural
composition
and
his
attention
to
the
subtle
detailing,
reflecting
the
design
proficiency
of
a
trained
architect,
who
is
john
edward
barnard,
the
nephew
of
henry
pearson.
So
the
report
asserts
that
this
building
is
significant
and
qualified
as
a
exemplary
exemplar
of
the
period
of
between
the
wars.

The
report
also
addresses
the
pearson
residents,
not
so
much
in
terms
of
the
architect
being
a
genius
who
influenced
his
age,
but
rather
for
its
noteworthy
artistic
stylistic
design
that
there's
a
subtle
but
distinctive
details
and
a
relaxed
symmetry
of
the
pearson
residence
which
sets
it
apart
from
many
other
smaller
homes
found
in
the
older
sections
of
palm
springs
done
during
this
period.
So
the
report
asserts
that
it
is
of
high
artistic
value.

Those
are
the
three
criteria
that
the
report
asserts
that
the
pearson
residence
is
qualified
under
for
consideration
as
a
historic
site.
The
next
part
of
your
report
addresses
the
evaluation
of
integrity
and,
as
you'll
note
in
your
report,
that
the
building
did
have
some
modifications
that
were
done
in
the
1960s,
including
an
addition
off
the
south
side
of
the
home
and
the
creation
of
a
roof
terrace.
It
notes
that,
although
there
were
some
modifications,
the
design
alterations
are
harmonious
in
their
aesthetic
and
they
are
complementary
to
the
overall
composition
of
the
home.

The
other
factors
of
integrity
are
noted
as
well
that
the
setting
materials,
workmanship
and
feeling
is
really
pretty
much
still
intact
and
with
a
good
degree
of
integrity.
It
is
noted,
under
feeling,
of
course,
that
the
garden
and
yards
have
become
much
more
lush
and
verdant
considered,
considering
all
the
grass
and
plantings
from
what
you
would
probably
experience
during
the
1930s
and
obviously
from
the
image
that
you
saw
on
the
front
of
the
home.

my
staff

As
noted,
this
property
has
been
qualified
as
a
potential
historic
site
with
both
integrity
and
the
criteria
findings
being
affirmatively
made,
which
would
make
it
eligible
for
class.

I'm

and
this
is
a

day,
character
defining
features
so
that
in
the
future,
if
someone
wanted
to
remove
that
root
test,
instead,
they
couldn't
because
my
fears
by
not
including
it
in
the
designation
of
a
contributing
feature,
even
though
it's
not
an
original
historic
feature,
is
that
a
future
owner
could
remove
or
enclose
that
roof
deck,
and
it
is
such
a
integral
part
of
the
site.

my
recommendation
on
that
member
nelson
is
that
again
you
want
to
focus
on
those
aspects
of
the
home
that
define
its
period
of
significance,
which
are
those
factors
that
were
put
in
place
and
built
from
the
time
of
its
construction
1930
those
areas
and
features
that
were
built
after
the
fact.

future,
a
homeowner
should
have
the
prerogative
and
the
authority
or
the
right
to
remove
those
things.

they
wish
to
do
so.

thought
it
was
an
excellent
report
that
bringing
up
so
much
information
that
I
don't
think
was
that
well
known,
maybe
by
by
many
even
in
the
preservation
community,
and
I
thought
it
was
an
excellent
report
that
I
really
enjoyed
actually-
and
I
know
how
you
start
off
with
one
thing
and
heaven
knows
where
you're
going
to
go
and
what
that's
going
to
lead
you
to
next.

So
essentially,
what
I
start
out
doing
is
a
process
of
elimination,
and
I
went
back
to
the
very
earliest
phone
books
which
only
had
about
a
hundred
different
names
in
them,
and
I
kept
on
finding
pearson
on
cawilla
and
I
kept
on
thinking.
You
know
this
just
says
something
to
me
and
purely
by
chance
I
went
back
and
looked
through
the
photo
archives
of
the
palm
springs.
Historical
society
entered
the
name,
pearson
bingo,
the
picture
of
the
house
popped
up
and
I
went
roswitha.

His
son
had
also
ended
up
in
practice
with
him
and
they
had
kept
the
whole
document
which
detailed
all
the
projects
that
the
father
and
son
had
done
over.
You
know
the
well.
This
particular
document
was
published
in
the
1960s,
so
going
back
to
the
30s
and
every
single
project,
and
then
there
were
hundreds.

Every
single
project
was
east
coast,
most
of
it
new
england,
a
few
in
florida,
but
very
few,
and
this
was
the
only
one
in
palm
springs
and
it
actually
said
palm
springs
next
to
it,
and
I
was
like
okay
well
case
proven,
so
no
that
was
it.
He
he
came
out
here.
He
he
just
did
that
project
for
his
uncle
and
and
then
the
recession.
You
know
he
was
doing
a
lot
of
watercolors
during
the
great
depression
and
he
was
having
exhibitions
in
palm
springs.

just
for
the
board,
really
just
a
reminder
that
we
did
have
some
exposure
to
henry
pearson
and
we
learned
a
lot
about
his
connection
to
depot
ranch
and
his
affinity
for
moving
palm
trees
from
one
property
to
another
when
we
were
doing
some
research
on
the
property.
That's
part
of
the
orchestra
and
I
had
a
step
to
do
an
extensive
report
on
the
small
bungalow
on
arena
south
of
the
holiday
house.

to
make
two
acknowledgements
to,
of
course,
rosita
smail,
who
has
done
a
wonderful
job
with
the
conservation
restoration
of
this
you
know
magnificent
property
and
and
to
the
or
owners
before
her.

know
that
preserved

too

changes
and,
of
course
we
love
those
top
watering,
those
palm
trees
during
the
summers
and
keeping
them
alive.

historical
property
that
was
preserved
by
these
people
over
the
years
and
then
to
to
mrs
ritchie
for
your
wonderful
research
and
documentation
that
you've
done
that
has,
provided
you
know,
great
historical
material.
You
know
to
the
city
of
palm
springs
well,
well
beyond
what
is
needed
for
the
historical
board,
but
to
you
know
to
our
archives
of
the
city,
so
boy,
what
a
great
project-
and
I
I'm
so
delighted
to
have
this-
this
excellent
example
of
asymmetrical.

know
these
are
non-contributing
things,
but
this
is
a
prime
prime
example
that
we
as
an
historical
board,
can
cite
as
a
project
that
is
magnificent
without
tearing
the
historic
property
down,
and
we
have
very
very
few
of
those
in
palm
springs.
We
have
a
few
now
it's
starting
to
happen.
Roswetha
did
this
on
her
own
and
I
think
it's
just
an
amazing
example
of
what
we
can
cite
when
people
are
buying
an
historic
property
and
they're
afraid
of
it
and
stepping
back.

took
a
tour
of
rancho
santa
fe
with
the
rancho
santa
fe,
historic
society
that
was
organized
for
the
palm
springs
art
museum.
I
have
seen
nothing
like
that
in
palm
springs
that
they
showed
us.
There
were
three
properties
which
were
all
extraordinarily
magnificent
but
the
same
idea
of
maintaining
the
historic
property
and
then
redeveloping
the
property
around
it
to
make
it
like
this
amazing
unusual
place.

But
this
is
an
example
of
someone
who
has
respected
and
shown
the
importance
of
this
era,
and
I
can't
in
the
meticulous
detail
or
the
ongoing
maintenance,
is
it's
true.
I
mean
you
just
can't
hardly
find
a
flaw
as
you
walk
around
that
property.
So
this
is
a
good
example.
I
agree
with
you
dan
for
others,
because
we've
seen
too
many
that
have
been
destroyed.

coleman
has
the
property
for
four
or
five
years,
and
now
we
have
had
it
for
six,
so
second,
ten
years
or
more,
to
really
transform
it
and
bring
it
to
what
it
is,
and
you
know
dan.

remember
because
it's
absolutely
right
that
it
is
better
now
than
it's
ever
been
and
well.
We
did
share
this
at
a
party
that
she
held
at
the
home
for
the
architecture
and
design
council
and
she
had
mr
coma
there
and
they
talked
all
about.

house

the
bank
and
the
process
of
it,
and
then
she
talked
about
finding
the
family
and
having
them
over.

of
the
previous
families
that
lived
there

they
just
were

themselves

she

said

can't
even
imagine
that
it
could
be
any
better
than
this,
so
you
know
having
all
this
modern
day
landscape
that
was
done
by

and

had

the

receiving

be
putting
that
together

then
we

view
it
as
a
subcommittee
to
give
its
final
approval.

think
it's
going
to
be
a
lot
of
fun.

tours:
we

did
get
other
people
lined

homes

be

their

just
don't
have

money
for

idea

would

really
doesn't
work
for

the

to
be

we
can
use

these
are
really
great
houses

were
so
enthusiastic

hesitate

more
work

supportive

symposium
preservation
matters
and
and
the
fact
that
it's
offered
free,

to
everyone
and
in
having
shorter
presentations,
but
a
lot
of
them
that
are
going
to
be
lively
and
fun.

entertaining,
even
though
we
might
not
be
able
to
gather
in

person.

was
so
pleased

there
was
so
much
support
and
enthusiasm

participants,
