It’s National Playground Safety Week! Observed April 26th-30th, National Playground Safety Week is a time to build awareness around playground safety. With mild winters and plenty of flat terrain, Punta Gorda is a wonderful year round place to ride a bicycle. Before you go for a bike ride, there are a few things you need to know regarding YOUR safety and the safety of others. City Manager Greg Murray and Mitchell Austin, Chief Planner made a presentation on February 10th about proposed reforms to City’s Land Development Regulations during a virtual meeting hosted by PGI Civic Association in partnership with TEAM Punta Gorda. The Land Development Regulation reform project will take about a year and involve several interactive public engagement opportunities. These reforms are a result of the City Wide Charrette held in Spring, 2018, and will provide the basis of our Comprehensive Plan for the next 15-20 years.

As the Urban Design Department continue to work on the Parks and Reaction Master Plan update, they wanted to share one of Punta Gorda’s hidden gems. Even though our parks and some gyms are open, many of the residents don’t feel ready to get back into those gyms. Visit Linear Park’s Fitness Zones to get a light exercise in from a safe distance!

Exciting contest announcement to kick off the Parks and Recreation Master Plan update in the City of Punta Gorda. As part of the Recreation and Open Space Element of the City's adopted Comprehensive Plan, the Parks and Recreation Master Plan is to be updated every 10 years. The last plan was adopted in 2009 and the necessary update was placed on hold until the completion of the Citywide Master Plan.

We are asking residents to take part in the contest to name the updated plan! Not only that, we will also offer bi-weekly video updates to let you all know how the plan is coming along and to answer any frequently asked question. Watch the video and let us know what you think or any ideas you may have in the comments down below.
