San Bruno Library Presents "Once Upon a Time"
Storytime #24 "Good Manners"
Taped by San Bruno Cable November 2009
A
Hi
boys
and
girls,
and
welcome
to
San
Bruno
library,
presents
once
upon
a
time
and
I'm
miss
rocky
and
I
work
at
the
San,
Bruno
library
and
today,
I'm
gonna
reduce
stories
that
we
have
at
the
library.
So
why
don't
we
start
with
our
hello
song
and,
let's
start
clapping
like
this
hello,
my
friends,
hello,
my
friends:
how
are
you,
how
are
you
very
well
I?
Thank
you
very
well
I.
Thank
you.
How
about
you?
How
about
you?
A
Let's
do
that
again
and
why
don't
you
repeat
and
repeat
what
I
say
so
say
what
I
sing
after
me:
okay,
hello,
my
friends,
hello,
my
friends:
how
are
you,
how
are
you
very
well
I?
Thank
you
very
well
I.
Thank
you.
How
about
you,
how
about
you
very
good?
How
about
another
song,
let's
sing
the
more
we
get
together
and
you
can
repeat
after
me
again.
Are
you
ready?
Let's
start
clapping
the
more
we
get
together
together
together,
the
more
we
get
together.
A
The
happier
we'll
be
because
my
friends
are
your
friends
and
your
friends
are
my
friends.
So
the
more
we
get
together,
the
happier
we'll
be
how
about
the
more
we
read
together.
Listening
that
the
more
we
read
together
together
together,
the
more
we
read
together,
the
happier
we'll
be
because
my
friends
are
your
friends
and
your
friends
are
my
friends.
A
So
the
more
we
read
together,
the
happier
we'll
be
good
job
now
we're
gonna
start
with
the
first
story,
and
today
I'm
gonna
read
stories
about
manners
and
do
you
know
your
manners,
our
what
our
manners
is
Man
or
something
that's
good
or
bad?
If
you
said
something
good
right,
having
manners
and
good
manners
is
excellent,
and
do
you
know
what
you
say
when
you
have
good
manners?
What's
what
are
the
magic
words
when
you
have
good
manners?
Did
you
say
please,
because
if
you
said
please
you're
right
and
how
about
wait?
A
A
And
what
is
this
man
doing?
Is
he's
sticking
out
his
tongue,
not
very
good
manners.
Is
it
once
upon
a
time
many
many
years
ago,
when
birds
flew
upside
down,
there
was
a
village
and
everyone
who
had
a
house
in
the
village
also
had
a
field
and
in
their
fields
they
grew
potatoes
and
carrots
and
cabbages
and
all
kinds
of
other
crops.
A
A
Whenever
anybody
said
good
morning
to
the
man
with
bad
manners,
he
would
say
yeah
and
when
anybody
said
good
evening
to
him
he
would
say
lately
very
rude.
The
people
would
become
annoyed
when
he
did
this
and
they
would
say
why
do
you
have
such
bad
manners,
but
he
would
just
say,
except
of
course,
when
he
said
Li,
Li,
Li.
A
For
a
long
time
the
people
weren't
too
bothered
by
the
man's
behavior.
They
knew
good
manners
from
bad
manners
and
most
the
time
they
didn't
take
much
notice
of
the
man
with
bad
manners,
but
one
day
he
got
worse.
He
began
to
go
out
of
the
night
and
stand
outside
different
houses
and
he
would
beat
tin
cans
and
make
terrible
noises,
bang,
bang,
bang.
This
would
wake
the
people
up
and
they
would
lean
out
their
windows
and
say
why
are
you
making
such
a
racket.
A
A
A
Everyone
spoke
at
once
he's
gone.
Thank
goodness.
Yes,
he's
gone,
oh,
what
a
relief
we!
Why
should
we
talk
about
him
but
he's
going
to
come
back
said
the
clever
boy?
Oh
you're
right
said
the
old
woman
he's
going
to
come
back
then
he
will
just
annoy
us
all
over
again.
Oh
yes,
indeed,
he'd
said
an
old
man.
A
What
can
we
do?
Cried
the
people
I
have
an
idea,
so
the
clever
boy
I've
thought
of
a
way
to
make
him
change
his
ways.
Oh
tell
us
quickly.
Shouted
the
people
well
said
the
clever
boy.
The
man
has
a
field
and
in
his
field
he's
growing
potatoes.
While
he's
away
we'll
take
the
potatoes
out
and
put
carrots
in
their
place,
then,
when
he
comes
back,
we
can
pretend
that
it
is
in
his
field
and
that
this
isn't
even
his
village.
A
Well,
what
about
the
house
asked
the
old
woman
he'll
go
to
his
house
and
he'll
know
that
this
is
his
village,
because
he'll
see
his
house
right
there.
Well,
his
house
is
red,
so
the
clever
boy
will
paint
it
green
and
he'll.
Think
it's
some
other
house.
A
A
What
good
will
that
do
several
people
said
well
said
the
clever
boy
he'll
either
go
away
or
he'll
change
his
ways.
You
know
said
the
old
woman,
it
just
may
work,
and
so
the
people
got
together
and
worked
very
hard.
They
dug
up
all
the
man's
potatoes
and
put
carrots
in
the
ground
in
their
place.
They
painted
the
walls
outside
his
house
and
they
changed
his
house
to
green.
A
They
painted
the
walls
inside
his
house,
they
painted
all
the
furniture
and
they
arranged
everything
so
that
it
all
looked
quite
different,
not
long
afterwards,
the
man
with
the
bad
manners
came
back
and,
as
he
walked
into
the
village,
he
said
and
Lee
Lee
Lee
to
everyone
he
saw
and
he
hit
tin
cans
as
loudly
as
ever.
Bang
bang,
bang
the
people
gathered
around
him
and
the
clever
boy
said
hello.
There,
who
are
you
You,
Don't,
Know,
Who
I,
am
said
the
man
with
bad
manners
banging
on
the
can.
A
A
My
house
is
right
over.
There
said
the
man
and
what
colour
is.
Your
house
asked
the
clever
boy.
You
know
perfectly
well
that
my
house
is
red,
said
the
man,
but
this
house
is
green
said
the
clever
boy,
the
man
looked
carefully
at
his
house
and
said
good
heavens,
that
house
is
green
and
then
he
ran
over
to
the
window
and
looked
inside
and
saw
that
everything
was
quite
unfamiliar.
A
A
We
put
carrots
in
your
field,
we
painted
it
on
the
inside
and
we
painted
all
your
furniture
and
then
we
rearranged
it.
We
did
it
all
to
teach
you
a
lesson
said
the
clever
boy,
but
now
that
you
have
promised
to
behave
yourself,
we'll
change
everything
back
and
we
can
all
live
happily
ever
after.
So
the
man
with
bad
manners
promised
again
to
change
his
ways
and
he
promised
and
he
promised
and
he
promised.
A
Yes,
he
did
so
that's
the
end
of
that
story,
and
just
so
you
know
and
remember
to
remind
you
that
we
have
story
time
at
the
library

nights

o'clock.
We

11
a.m.
and
those
are
for
toddlers.
But
all
ages
are
welcome
too.
So
now
we're
gonna
go
on
a
break.

B
Who
are
you
guys?
Judging
from
your
reaction,
it
looks
like
you
don't
like
trash
in
your
home.
No,
of
course,
not,
sir.
This
is
yours.
We
saw
you
dump
it
out
of
your
car.
Everyone
see
your
home,
sir.
Obviously,
and
you
don't
like
trash
in
your
home.
No
of
course,
why
would
you
trash
California?
Don't
trash
California.
A
Hi
boys
and
girls,
and
welcome
back
good
to
see
you
again
we're
gonna
do
another
song
and
it's
called
two
little
hands
ten
little
fingers.
So
let's
see
your
hands
up
and
your
fingers
wiggling.
Are
you
ready
two
little
hands?
Ten
little
fingers
two
little
hands.
Ten
little
fingers
two
little
hands.
Ten
little
fingers
sing
along
with
me
one
two:
three
little
fingers:
four:
five:
six
little
fingers,
seven,
eight
nine
little
fingers
and
one
more
makes
ten.
Did
you
say
ten,
very
good,
you're
right?
A
Okay.
So
let's
read
the
next
story.
Do
you
remember
what
we're
reading
about
today?
Did
you
say
manners?
That's
right,
good
manners
and
you
remember
what
good
manners,
what
the
magic
words
are
for
good
manners.
Please
that's
right
and
thank
you
and
excuse
me.
So
the
next
story
is
called
piggy.
Monday,
a
tale
about
manners
and
piggy
Monday
is
by
Suzanne
Blume.
A
A
The
children
still
were
Wiggly
until
they
heard
a
wail
Amanda
took
Melinda's
eat
and
then
she
grew
a
tail
in
music.
It
was
noted,
Sarah
wouldn't
sing
the
song
she
was
busy
whispering
and
then
her
ears
grew
long
at
playground.
As
the
teams
picked
sides,
they
tried
to
leave
Tom
out
me.
While
Tommy
picked
his
nose
and
sound
he'd
grown
a
snout
Oh
lunch
time
was
chaotic
and
everyone
was
rude.
No
one
used
their
silverware
and
George
was
throwing
food
Stevie
used
to
sleeve
when
he
was
wiping
off
his
face.
A
Suddenly
his
hand
was
gone
and
a
hoof
was
in
its
place.
What
are
they
turning
into?
If
you
said,
pigs
you're
right
at
rest
time,
missus
hubbub,
said:
I've
told
you
more
than
once.
Good
manners
are
important,
but
all
she
heard
was
grunts
wink,
wink,
wink,
wink
nurse
Judy
took
their
temperatures
and
gave
their
tails
a
twist.
It's
no
ordinary
flu.
She
said
we
need
a
specialist,
the
secretaries
knew
just
who
and
in
the
step
they
dialed
her
pig.
Lady.
Will
you
help
us
please
before
it
gets
much
wilder?
A
A
A
When
I
get
picked
on
Tommy
said
it
makes
me
feel
so
small,
so
don't
make
fun
of
anyone.
Don't
bully
or
name
call,
and
we
close
our
mouth
said
Ashley
when
we
eat
our
food,
because
it's
just
disgusting
to
see
what
is
being
chewed
in
the
old
days
when
I
wanted
something
I
would
just
say:
gimme,
gimme,
gimme
now
I
know
that
saying,
please
is
more
polite,
said
Jimmy
and
Kevin
had
a
good
idea.
Take
turns
the
game
goes
faster.
If
we
fight
and
break
the
rules.
It's
a
big
disaster.
A
You
never
play
with
me,
Melinda
said,
and
it's
no
fun.
It
feels
so
bad
to
be
left
out.
I
play
with
everyone.
Sarah
said
we're
sorry
for
ignoring
you
all
day,
then
Amanda
added
stay
with
us
and
we'll
play
I'll
share
my
toys
at
Keyshia.
If
you
carefully
and
and
if
you're,
careful
and
don't
break
them,
but
ask
me
for
permission
first
before
you
go
and
take
them
Rebecca
nodded,
then
she
said
it's
up
to
us:
I
guess
to
put
away
the
toys
we
use
and
clean
up
all
our
mess.
A
Are
they
learning
manners
now
I
think
so?
I
hold
doors,
open,
George,
announced
and
then
say
after
you,
it
really
shocks
the
socks
off
people
passing
through.
Excuse
me,
please
excuse
me.
Please
suggest
I'd
like
to
mention
that
when
you
say
excuse
me,
please
people
pay
attention,
I
get
it
Erika
declared.
We
hurt
each
other's
feelings,
we
were
bossy,
mean
and
rude.
That's
why
we
started
squealing.
A
A
A
The
class
lined
up
for
snack
line,
there
was
just
juice
in
every
cup,
no
one
hugged
the
muffins
and
everyone
cleaned
up.
Excuse
me
please,
and
thank
you
were
heard
throughout
the
day.
Justin
shared
with
Jessi
and
Jake
said:
hey
keV,
let's
play
Whitney
whispered
amber
you
color
very
well,
and
no
one
had
a
reason
to
shout.
I'm
gonna
tell
the
librarian
was
pleased
to
see
the
books
put
on
the
shelves
in
art,
class
Mike
and
Erika
did
not
paint
themselves.
A
A
Well,
I
hope
you
remember
to
say
thank
you
please
and
excuse
me
and
now
it's
time
to
say
goodbye.
Are
you
ready
to
say
a
goodbye
song
good
bye,
my
friends,
good
bye
friends,
it's
time
to
go
it's
time
to
go.
It
was
very
nice
to
be
with
all
of
you,
good,
bye,
good,
bye
and
don't
forget
to
come
visit
me
at
the
library,
okay,
I
hope
to
see
you
soon.
