Description
San Bruno Street Lighting Project 2014
Second Version
A
A
Streetlights
are
there
for
safety
as
the
primary
objective,
especially
when
driving
it
is
of
utmost
importance
to
be
able
to
see.
Well
at
night,
the
city
of
San
Bruno
has
approximately
2,000
streetlights
within
the
city
limits.
The
plan
is
to
replace
the
streetlights.
We
have
now
for
more
energy
efficient,
more
sustainable
lighting
units.
The
San
Bruno
public
services
department
wants
your
feedback
on
helping
to
choose
which
lighting
units
to
use
ultimately
you'll,
be
the
one
walking
and
driving
under
these
lights
at
night
in
San
Bruno.
So
your
input
is
welcomed.
A
Let's
take
a
step
back
and
look
at
what
we
use
now.
Are
you
familiar
with
that
orangi
light
that
is
typical
of
the
common
city
street
light
that
type
of
street
light
is
called
a
high-pressure
sodium
light.
It
was
invented
in
the
latter
part
of
the
1950s
and
has
been
widely
used
since
the
70s.
Most
HPS
streetlights
are
250
watts
and
need
to
be
replaced
every
three
to
five
years.
The
used
ball
must
be
disposed
of
as
chemical
waste.
A
Most
people
have
heard
of
LED
or
light
emitting
diode
lights.
Led
lights
have
been
used
for
quite
some
time
as
Christmas
tree
lights
and
for
other
decorative
uses.
Led
lights
used
for
streetlights
are
a
bright
white
light,
which
is
very
close
to
sunlight
in
color
temperature.
This
means
that
under
a
typical
LED
streetlight,
you
can
see
color
in
the
middle
of
the
night,
almost
as
well
as
you
can.
A
In
the
middle
of
the
day,
LED
lights
have
a
long
life
span
from
25,000
to
100,000
hours,
while
high
pressure
sodium
lights
last
for
about
three
to
five
years.
Led
lights
can
last
for
up
to
20
years,
although
there
is
a
cost
to
switching
out
all
2,000
streetlights
in
the
city.
There
are
some
valid
reasons
why
it's
time
for
the
change?
Led
lighting
is
much
more
energy
efficient
than
the
high-pressure
sodium
lights
we
have
now.
Once
the
city
makes
the
change.
A
A
The
typical
HBS
lighting
units
used
now
in
san
bruno
spill
in
unwanted
directions,
wasting
energy
and
causing
light
pollution,
and
if
your
house
is
situated
near
a
street
light,
you
may
get
unwanted
light
through
your
windows
at
night,
LED
street
lighting
units
are
built
as
more
directional
light,
which
helps
prevent
light
pollution
as
well
as
glare.
In
addition,
LED
light
emits
a
more
even
distribution
of
light
in
different
parts
of
the
city
we
have
different
street
lighting
needs.
Each
area
has
different
requirements
for
light
depending
on
usage.
A
If
it
is
a
business
area
or
residential
area,
how
wide
the
street
is
and
how
much
spacing
will
be
in
between
each
lamppost
in
every
section
of
the
city,
except
in
the
downtown
area,
we
will
be
using
what
are
called
Cobra
headlights
in
the
downtown
area.
We'll
use
a
more
ornamental
style,
called
a
post
top
street
light
in
the
areas
where
we
will
be
using
the
cobra
headlights.
There's
a
choice
between
a
higher
color
temperature,
light
at
6000
degrees
and
a
lower
color
temperature
light,
which
is
at
4,000
degrees.
Either
light
will
work.
A
The
lower
color
temperature
light
is
slightly
more
orange
in
color,
with
the
goal
of
getting
public
input
on
which
temperature
or
brightness
of
lights,
we
will
ultimately
install
in
different
parts
of
the
city.
The
public
services
department
has
installed
different
LED
streetlights,
with
varying
brightness
as
a
way
to
demonstrate
how
the
different
lights
will
look
in
each
neighborhood.
There
is
a
sign
on
each
pole
with
a
replacement,
LED
light
that
will
tell
you
the
information
on
the
new
light
to
help
us
identify
which
brightness
of
light
fits
each
location
best.
A
Let's
look
at
the
different
areas
of
town
to
better
understand
the
lighting
needs.
If
you
have
lived
in
san
bruno
for
any
length
of
time,
you
know
that
downtown
refers
to
send
Matteo
Avenue
post
top
street
lights
will
be
used
here.
Post
top
street
lights
tend
to
be
shorter
and
there
are
more
of
them
per
block.
Warm
bright
light
shines
in
every
direction.
To
light
up
the
whole
sidewalk
host
top
lights
are
more
than
just
a
street
lamp.
A
A
Some
streets
in
san
bruno
have
a
lot
of
traffic
on
a
regular
basis
called
major
arteries.
These
are
wider
streets,
lined
with
businesses
with
more
lanes
of
fast
traffic,
with
higher
speed
limits.
Ample
lighting
is
needed
on
major
arteries
so
that
drivers
can
see
better
taller.
Cobra
head
LED
lights
will
be
used
for
the
major
artery
streets.
The
choices
of
lights
for
the
major
artery
streets
can
be
found
on
san
bruno
avenue,
be
between
third
Avenue
and
sixth
Avenue
minor
arterial
streets
have
a
mix
of
businesses
and
homes,
although
they
have
only
two
lanes.
A
A
Residential
neighborhoods,
we
want
the
light
to
light
up
the
street,
but
not
to
spill
over
into
bedroom
windows.
Residential
streets
tend
to
be
more
narrow
streets.
A
lower
voltage,
more
directional
street
light
works
well
on
residential
streets,
allowing
drivers
to
see
but
keeping
the
light
away
from
the
houses
street
light.
Color
temperature
choices
for
residential
neighborhoods
can
be
found
on
third
and
fourth
avenues
between
pine
and
angus.
A
The
city
of
san
bruno
welcomes
your
feedback
with
respect
to
the
color
temperature
of
the
new
LED
streetlights
for

information
on
the
san
bruno
street.
