Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting May 28, 2013
4. Presentations
B
Good
evening,
honorable
mayor
Ruane
city,
council,
members,
city
manager,
Jackson
and
Community
Development
Director,
well,
mr.
altering
thank
you
for
allowing
this
presentation
of
the
San
Bruno
Chamber
of
Commerce
farmers
market.
The
chamber
has
always
had
a
desire
to
enhance
and
build
community
goodwill.
One
way
that
we
do
this
is
by
hosting
the
farmers
market.
As
you
know,
for
many
years
the
market
was
on
san
mateo
avenue.
The
last
year
on
the
Avenue
showed
a
significant
decrease
in
vendors
and
consumers
to
the
market.
B
However,
after
one
year
at
that
location,
it
became
clear
that
the
location
was
not
a
viable
one.
Some
of
the
many
factors
contributing
to
the
lack
of
viability
include
the
weather.
The
wind
that
came
down
sneath
lane
would
blow
over
the
booths
and
that
created
safety
concerns.
There
was
lack
of
signage
and
promotion
from
PC
FMA.
B
B
We
learned
a
great
deal
from
this
experience
and
wanted
to
learn
more
so
the
chamber
started
doing
surveys
of
residents,
city
staff
merchants
and
businesses
throughout
San
Bruno.
We
wanted
to
know
what
we
could
do
to
give
the
market
more
appeal
and
encourage
people
to
attend.
Nearly
eighty
five
percent
of
us
of
the
survey
suggested
moving
back
to
San
Mateo
Avenue,
because
they
could
walk
to
downtown
shop,
eat
and
enjoy
the
area
we've
decided
to
give
the
people
what
they
want
and
bring
the
market
back
to
San
Mateo
Avenue.
B
This
market
will
be
inviting
family
friendly,
safe
and
fun.
In
addition
to
being
popular
with
consumers
and
profitable
for
farmers,
it
will
be
supportive
of
local
businesses
and
the
community
organizations,
and
we
will
have
activities
for
children
and
families
every
Sunday.
We
plan
to
use
the
sunday
markets
as
a
venue
to
foster
community
connections,
to
encourage
healthy
food
choices
and
to
support
local
businesses.
Statistics
show
that
those
who
attend
the
market
stay
in
shop.
Sixty
percent
typically
will
stay
in
shop
on
the
Avenue.
B
This
will
help
the
chamber
satisfy
one
of
our
many
goals
of
bringing
more
shoppers
to
the
downtown.
The
market
will
be
held
on
Sundays
from
10
a-m
to
2
p.m.
jun,
9th
through
november
24th.
In
order
to
achieve
these
goals,
we
have
chosen
to
partner
with
a
local
farmers
market
association
right
here
from
San
Mateo
County.
They
are
west
coast
farmers,
market

like
to
introduce

Jan

believe
