Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting April 24, 2012
3. Announcements
A
B
You
mr.
mayor
I
have
had
the
privilege
for
the
last
few
months
to
to
be
one
of
the
co
event
chairs.
For
this
event,
this
is
the
third
year
of
relay
for
life
for
San
Bruno.
In
the
first
two
years
it
was
sort
of
secluded
up
at
Skyline
College,
and
we
brought
it
down
to
the
community
and
I'm
so
proud
to
say
that
we
have
tripled
the
amount
of
teams.
B
We
have
doubled
our
fundraising
so
far
and
we
look
forward
to
a
lot
of
community
involvement
from
the
schools
from
the
elementary
schools
from
businesses
and
also
from
the
city
of
San
Bruno.
So
I
am
really
proud
that
San
Bruno
city
employees
are
going
to
participate
in
this
year's
event.
They
it's
it's
it's
something
that
I
tried
to
get
many
of
the
many
of
the
departments
involved
in,
but
and
that's
that's
still
a
goal
for
future
years.
B
But
the
event
will
take
place
this
Saturday,
it's
a
24-hour
event
and
it's
a
it's
a
celebration:
it's
a
fundraiser
and
it's
an
opportunity
to
inform
people
and
to
fight
back
against
cancer.
Just
a
few
facts.
It
started
in
1985
and
since
then,
we've
raised
over
four
billion
dollars
for
cancer.
It
raises
over
400
million
dollars
a
year,
which
is
three
times
more
than
any
other
cancer
fundraiser,
and
not
to
say
that
those
aren't
valuable
events.
B
Also,
but
American
Cancer,
Society's
relay
for
life
takes
care
of
all
cancers
benefits
all
cancers,
and
so
there
are
five
thousand
events
over
five
thousand
events
this
year.
San
bruno
is
very
proud
to
have
to
be
growing
and
I'm
proud
to
be
a
part
of
it
because
you
know
we
all
have
our
own
cancer
story,
whether
it's
close
to
home
close
to
our
hearts
or
someone
that
we
know
so
really.
Looking
forward
to
this
weekend,
it's
going
to
be
a
real
whirlwind
of
a
weekend,
but
it's
it's
something
that
we
all
look
forward
to.
B
Randy
Schwartz,
who
is
community
service
director,
is
team
captain
for
Team
san
bruno,
and
so
we
do
have
a
team.
If
you
want
to
support
the
city
and
also
support
cancer,
please
see
see
randy
and
make
a
small
donation,
because
every
dollar
counts
you
know,
and
we
will
you
know
we
will
cure
cancer
one
day
and
hopefully
it's
you
know
within
our
lifetime
or
at
least
in
our
kids
lifetime.
So
this
saturday
stop
by.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
A
C
I
do
first
of
all
it
used
to
be
started
eight,
but
as
we've
gotten
older,
we've
changed
it
to
nine.
So
it
starts
at
nine
registration
at
the
San
Bruno
pavilion.
We
have
coffee
and
donuts
that
are
donated.
We
supply
you
with
you
with
equipment.
You
go
out
for
two
hours
and
clean
up
san
bruno
and
then
you
come
back
and
have
a
nice
lunch
provided
by
Recology
of
san
bruno.
So
we
hope
to
see
you
there.
It's
a
fabulous
event.
We've
been
doing
it
for
almost
15
years.
C
I
think
this
is
our
14th
year
and
we
always
this
is
our
logo
thing,
but
we
always
also
give
people
a
gift.
This
year
is
going
to
be
this
tote
bag
and
it's
insulated,
and
we
are,
our
goals.
Are
twofold?
Not
only
are
we
trying
to
clean
up
the
place,
but
we're
also
trying
to
provide
you
with
things
that
will
help
you
not
use
plastic
bags.
C
So
this
is
something
that
we'd
like
to
give
you
if
you
come
and
participate
and
we
have
over
200
people
who
did
it
last
year
and
I
believe
we
collected
over
a
ton
of
garbage
and
recycling
materials.
So
it's
a
great
event
is
because
we've
been
so
successful
over
the
years,
though
we
have
fewer
places
to
clean
up.
So
now
we're
adding
different
things
to
do.
We
do
painting,
we
helped
spread
out
the
wood
chips
in
different
parks
and
things
like
that.
