Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting August 27, 2013
10b. Extension of the 2013 San Bruno Park Swimming Pool Season
A
B
Good
evening,
honorable
mayor
and
members
of
the
City
Council,
the
san
bruno
park,
swimming
pool
operates
seasonally
from
mid-june
through
the
Labor
Day
weekend.
Recently,
the
city
manager
received
a
petition
addressed
to
the
mayor,
ruined
and
councilmember
Medina
and
signed
by
a
hundred
water,
aerobics,
lap,
swim
and
recreational
swim
program.
Participants
requesting
the
city
keep
the
pool
open
for
those
programs
for
the
most
of
the
year.
B
In
response
to
the
community's
request
for
an
extension
of
this
year,
season
staff
has
evaluated
the
availability
of
both
the
pool
and
the
aquatics
program
staff
to
support
an
extended
season
based
upon
the
availability
of
the
current
aquatics
program
staff.
There
would
be
sufficient
staffing
to
support
the
extension
of
the
season
only
during
the
late
afternoon
and
evening
hours.
It
would
not
currently
be
possible
to
continue
to
deliver
morning
classes.
Water
aerobics
would
be
offered
for
one
hour
from
six
to
seven
actually
you'll
see
in
front
of
you.
B
You
have
the
schedule
that
we're
proposing
and
so
water
aerobics
would
be
offered
on
during
the
week
monday
through
thursday,
from
six
to
seven
laps,
one
would
be
offered
715
to
8,
30
p.m.
and
then
on
the
weekends
water
aerobics
would
be
9
30
to
10,
30
and
laps.
One
would
be
1045
to
1245.
Rx1
would
be
from
one
to
four.
Those
Saturday
and
Sunday
hours
are
a
little
bit
different.
I
apologize
for
the
two
changed
right,
I
misspoke.
B
The
pool
would
not
be
available
during
the
month
of
October
due
to
the
time
required
to
set
up
the
pool
locker
rooms
for
the
halloween
haunted
pool
event.
Additionally,
the
pool
plumbing
work
is
needed
to
address
leaks
between
the
pool
and
the
filtration
system.
If
approved
this
fiscal
year,
capital
improvement
budget.
This
would
work
would
be
scheduled
as
soon
as
reasonably
possible
to
ensure
the
structural
integrity
and
water
efficiency
of
the
pool.
Should
the
City
Council
wish
to
extend
this
2013
full
season
staff
recommends
extending
through
Sunday
September
29th
over
the
coming
months.
B
Stepha
will
develop
various
alternatives
for
an
extended
season
for
the
future.
These
alternatives
will
be
presented
to
the
council
for
its
consideration
as
part
of
the
fiscal
year
2014-15
operating
budget
review
and
adoption
process,
the
pool
experience
extended
seasons
in
both
2008
in
2010
in
2008.
It
was
response
to
another
petition
brought
forward
to
the
by
the
water
aerobics
participants
and
in
2008
the
water
aerobics
lap
swim
weekend.
Recreational
swim
and
swimming
lessons
were
all
offered
in
2010.
B
The
pool
was
kept
open
through
a
rental
to
the
San
Mateo
union,
high
school
district
for
their
water
polo
programs,
while
their
poles
were
being
remodeled
staff
programmed
water,
aerobics
and
lap
swim
around
the
practice
times
to
take
advantage
of
the
pool
remaining
open
and
being
able
to
offering
the
offer
the
program's
to
the
residents.
Both
extended
seasons
were
successful,
with
the
rod,
aerobics
and
lap
swim
classes
filling
to
almost
capacity
each
session.
The
cost
to
keep
the
pool
open
through
September
29th
is
estimated
at
seven
thousand
four
hundred
and
forty
dollars.
B
The
revenue
anticipated
is
3876
dollars.
This
represents
a
fifty
two
percent
rate
of
recovery
for
the
extended
season.
The
rate
of
recovery
is
approximately
eighty
percent
for
a
full
season,
which
includes
swim
lesson
and
pull
pull
the
rentals
I
have
I
will
be
happy
to
answer
any
questions
that
you
may
have
been.
B
This
we,
the
last
okay.
C
I'm
continuing
on
I'm
going
to
challenge
this
petition
because
I
don't
know
who
mayor
Russo
is
no
but
I.
Now
to
be
serious,
the
petition
did
stayed
the
pge
settlement
and
I
just
want
to
make
on
the
record
that
the
funds
that
we're
going
to
do
to
you
know
to
continue
the
operation
of
the
pool
is
not
from
the
PG&E
settlement.
So
I
think
it's
a
good
good
idea
to
extend
the
program.
D
Thank
Rico
do
the
chair:
I
noticed,
was
brought
back
up
in
a
way
and
I
believe
Linda
may
have
been
one
of
the
persons
who
brought
forward
at
that
time.
Consideration
have
the
extension
to
10
you
and
thank
you
for
Brooke
wrap,
bring
up
that
history
when
earlier
this
year,
when
I
talked
about
possible
enhancements,
looking
at
things
as
some
budget
times
were
a
little
better.
These
are
the
type
of
things
that
I
was
looking
at
us
as
a
staff
and
as
a
council
to
look
at.
D
So
I
appreciate
that
the
residents
and
or
participants
came
together.
These
are
the
kind
of
things
again
that
I
think
that
offers
a
good
value
for
the
cost
and
obviously
there's
a
need-
and
it's
been
proven
in
08
and
210,
and
I
think
that
this
could
have
been
a
part
of
this
going
forward.
But
I'm
in
support
of
that
and
like
to
see
this
go
forward.
