Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting February 8, 2011
8b. Citizen's Option for Public Safety Funds
B
Evening,
honorable
mayor
members
of
the
City
Council
Neil
Telford,
your
police
chief
in
1996,
Assembly,
Bill
3229,
implemented
the
citizens
option
for
public
safety
or
the
cops
program.
The
program
appropriated
state
funds
to
supplement
local
law
enforcement
for
enhancing
frontline
police
services.
The
amount
available
for
fiscal
year
2010-2011
is
$100,000.
B
The
traffic
officer
position
enhances
the
department's
ability
to
respond
to
traffic
complaints,
enforce
traffic
laws
and
investigate
traffic
collisions.
The
request
and
recommendation
before
you
tonight
will
allow
cops
funding
to
continue
to
be
devoted
to
maintain
the
traffic
officer
that
we
have
in
our
current
budget.
That
concludes
my
presentation.
I'll
be
more
than
happy
to
answer
any
questions
that
you
may
have
any
questions
of
the
chief
through.
C
The
chair,
my
understanding
and
chief,
is
that
this
is
good
for
the
2010-2011
budget.
$100,000,
that's
what
it's
going
to
reimburse
for
the
parking
enforcement
officer
for
the
traffic
officer.
Yes,
you
are
correct.
So
does
the
governor
have
any
proposals
to
eliminate
this
process
in
the
next
budget
or
if
the
measures
that
the
governor's
putting
on
the
ballot
fail?
Could
that
jeopardize
this
funding
for
future?
Yes,.
B
You
are
correct.
The
cops
program
is
funding
through
the
VLF
or
vehicle
license
fee
that
the
governor
is
trying
and
that
will
sunset
in
june.
The
governor
is
trying
to
to
extend
that
through
legislation
or
potentially
put
it
on
the
ballot.
But
if
that
does
not
come
to
pass,
then
yes,
that
traffic
officer
position
is
in
jeopardy.
Okay,
thank
you.
I
mean.
A
The
questions
that
achieve
all
right
this
time,
we'll
open
the
public
hearing
at
anyone
in
the
public
like
to
address
the
council
on
this
issue.
Once
again,
I
remind
you
if
we
close
the
public
hearing,
you're
precluded
from
speaking
on
this
again
moved
close
pebble
carry
second
motion.
Second,
all
in
favor
aye,
any
additional
questions,
comments
or
action
go.
