Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting 1-12-10 10d. City Clerk's Report on New Election Law Seminar
B
Honorable
mayor
and
council
I
attended
the
new
election
law
seminar
and
I
appreciate
the
council
allowing
me
to
do
that.
The
focus
of
the
seminar
is
on
newly
enacted
legislation
pertaining
to
elections
as
well
as
sessions
on
other
issues
of
interest
to
clerks.
People
are
probably
more
familiar
with
the
role
I
play
interfacing
with
the
public
and
providing
public
information.
B
An
equally
important
role,
the
city
clerk,
but
perhaps
less
understood,
is
it
is
critical
for
a
city
clerk
to
learn
current
laws
and
gain
technical
knowledge,
and
that's
just
what
I
did
at
this
seminar
by
law.
I
am
the
custodian
of
assist
city's
official
city
records
and
I
finalize
record
organize
and
maintain
all
ordinances
and
resolutions
I'm.
Also,
the
chief
election
officer
in
my
office
handles
all
the
election
and
campaign
activities
for
our
city.
B
The
clerk
is
also
responsible
for
posting
the
agenda
and
publishing
other
public
notice
that
lets
the
public
know
what
business
is
coming
before
the
City,
Council
or
other
commissioners.
All
of
these
responsibilities
require
an
understanding
of
the
technical
and
legal
requirements
that
we
operate
under.
I
can
best
serve
the
city's
interest
by
staying
current
with
these
rules
and
by
connecting
with
other
city
clerks
to
find
out
how
they
handle
issues
that
we
have
in
common
I've
attended
the
seminar.
B
This
was
my
fourth
one,
and
this
year's
speakers
were
extremely
informative,
enthusiastic
and
inspirational,
and
they
took
the
new
approach
to
engaging
their
audience.
We
were
all
involved
in
what
they
were
talking
about,
and
it
just
made
us
understand
everything.
Doing
more
I
can't
stress
enough:
the
camaraderie
and
network
that
takes
place
at
one
of
these
seminars.
I
just
keep
expanding.
