Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting March 8, 2011
11. Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Annual Report
A
B
Honorable
mayor,
jim
brewing
and
honorable
members
of
our
city
council,
before
I
make
the
report,
I
just
want
to
thank
you
for
all
the
things
that
you've
been
going
through
and
helping
our
citizens
that
endured
the
terrible
disaster
of
September
ninth
in
the
crestmore
to
area.
Thank
you
very
much.
Thank.
A
B
In
2002,
the
city
council
created
the
bicycle
and
pedestrian
Advisory
Committee
and
it
was
charged
with
many
things
and
the
first
thing
we
did
was
to
develop
a
mission
statement,
and
then
we
set
some
goals
and
objectives
and
we
wanted
to
establish
our
own
identity.
So
at
that
time,
Emile
Hans
was
on
our
committee
and
we
created
this
logo
incorporating
the
city
logo
with
bicycle
and
pedestrians
in
the
local
logo
itself.
We
also
at
our
own
expense,
because
we
know
that
city
budget
is
under
stress.
We
create,
we
bought
our
own
shirts.
B
So
when
we
go
out
into
the
community
we're
easily
identified
and
that's
what
we've
been
doing,
the
third
thing
we
did
was
to
create
a
binder
which
contains
the
ordinances,
our
mission
and
the
accomplishments
and
achievements
that
our
committee
has
done
over
the
last
nine
years.
So
the
next
slide
will
show
you
the
makeup
of
our
committee.
B
We
have
four
members
at
large
and
they're,
the
only
ones
that
can
attain
the
rank
of
the
chair
and
vice-chair
and
then,
in
addition
to
that,
we
have
representatives
from
the
park
and
recreation
commission
and
the
Planning
Commission,
and
the
traffic
safety
and
parking
committee
also
we're
very
lucky
to
have
another
liaison
and
a
member
from
the
City
Council.
Currently
it's
Ken
and
she's
been
to
our
meetings.
He
knows
what
doing,
and
we
always
feel
that
we're
open
to
talk
with
him
for
guidance
and
direction.
C
B
Byrd
who's
been
a
real
leader
in
our
committee
and
Mrs
May
is
here
she's
not
on
our
committee
anymore,
but
for
many
years
she
was
one
of
our
strong
members
and
thank
you
very
much
for
that.
Ok
back
the
presentation.
Our
next
outreach
is
the
posy
parade.
This
is
our
seventh
year
we've
been
working
with
the
city
and
the
Lions
Club
and
I
come
on
Ken.
What
is
it?
The
clip
lines
right?
Epcos
you
preview
I've
got
too
much
I'm
going
to
the
parks
and
rec
conference
tomorrow,
Sunday
speech
with
that.
B
So
we
set
up
a
booth
at
the
entrance
of
city
park
and,
as
all
the
parade
people
come
passing,
we
pass
out
our
mission
statement.
The
Alliance
has
always
provided
us
with
wonderful
posters
and
toys
for
the
kids
and
we
really
generate
a
lot
and
another
person
I'd
like
to
recognize.
You
can
see
Walter
on
the
right
side
of
the
picture,
but
mrs.
Bird
Doreen
bird
has
been
to
every
event.
Henson
she's
been
a
wonderful
and
there
she
is
Arbor.
Day
were
very
active
in
as
well
John
Muir,
school
and
press
War.
B
B
So
we
are
continuing
our
efforts
to
reach
out
to
the
community
and
actively
participate
Walter
and
Dorian,
and
I
were
there
cleaning
up
the
school
grounds
and
then,
when
that
concluded,
we
went
down
to
the
city
park
and
we
set
up
another
table
similar
to
this
one
too
for
Arbor
Day
and
we
once
again
gave
out
our
materials
and
we
have
these
wonderful
posters
from
the
county
that
the
kids
really
enjoyed
of
the
giants
and
49ers
and
others
professional
sports.
Next,
our
outreach
one
thing
we're
very
proud
of
is
our
bicycle
safety
workshop.
B
We
one
super
successful
one
and
we
are
in
the
planning
stages
for
one
that's
coming
up
in
May,
and
we
are
another
thing
that
we've
really
made
an
effort.
Mr.
Walter,
again,
we've
reached
out
to
the
peninsula
traffic
congestion
relief,
Alliance
and
they're,
an
agency
right
here
in
Bay
Hill,
and
we've
made
a
relationship
with
Karen
Sumner
and
one
of
the
last
acts
that
Mayor
Franz
Ella
did
was
to
give
her
a
proclamation
for
her
great
support
with
art
with
her
agency
in
our
city.
B
The
next
one
is
the
future
planning
with
trends
quarters
we're
in
the
process
of
doing
us.
Now
we
depend
on
our
staff,
Lauren,
gym
or
absolutely
terrific
and
keeping
us
appraised
of
what
funds
are
out
there,
what
we
should
be
doing
and
what
we
shouldn't
be
doing,
and
we
thank
them
for
that
next
slide.
Please
our
goals.
As
you
can
see,
we
begin
work
on
the
pedestrian
and
bicycle
master
plan.
We've
been
doing
that
for
a
long
time.
B
Many
of
us
took
the
walking
tour
I
think
it
was
two
years
ago
when
we
went
down
to
San
Mateo
avenue,
and
we
we
were
very
active
in
that
and
we
continued
community
outreach
with
our
public
service
announcements.
That's
with
das
PSA
stands
for
and
we
have
a
very
good
relationship
via
our
staff
with
cable,
TV
and
we've
had
two
wonderful
PSAs,
a
stop
look
and
a
wave
program
which
you've
seen
on
cable
TV,
and
we
were
working
on
one
or
two
more
coming
coming
up
in
the
future.
C
The
chair,
Tamara,
the
bicycle
and
pedestrian
committee
has
come
a
long
way
and
as
seven
years,
seven
eight
years
that
it's
been
together
and
we've
seen
as
a
representative
of
this
city
and
the
county
bicycle
pedestrian
committee,
we've
seen
the
city
take
advantage
of
funding
of
grant
funding
in
bicycle
lanes
and
bicycle.
Paving
improvements,
pedestrian
improvements
and,
and
your
committee
is-
has
been
a
big
part
of
that.
C
What
I'd
like
to
see
is
that
continued
commitment,
and
also
since
we
don't
have
borders
on
on
bicycling
and
and
walking
that
that
we
can
app
with
the
good
folks
in
south
city
and
millbrae
too,
because
we
are
known
to
have
a
good
good
beep
at
in
the
county
and
I
think
we
need
to.
We
need
to
reach
out
to
the
south
city
of
millbrae,
just
starting
one,
so
we
can
help
them
out
to
it.
B
C
B
A
Other
comments
predict
I
just
like
to
say
you
know,
this
is
the
city
with
the
heart
and
the
Commission's
boards,
and
committees
are
that
life
blood
that
makes
that
heart
pump
really
works
and
we
couldn't
do
without
you.
People
don't
realize
the
depth
of
our
volunteerism
in
this
city
and
it's
extraordinary.
So
thank
you
very
much.
Thank.
B
You
thank
you,
and
one
last
thing
is
a
point
of
information.
Mark
rosekind
on
the
NTSB
grew
up
in
crestmore,
went
to
John
Muir
school
igual,
Intermediate
School
press
more
high
school,
he
went
to
Stanford
became
an
international
authority
on
narcolepsy
and
sleep
problems
and
President
Obama
nominated
him
and
he's
now
on
the
NTSB.
His
first
case
was
when
congressman
stevens
died
in
the
airplane
crash
in
Alaska
yeah.
